Born in 1953, yup 70 now. I have seen both these guys in concert. Saw Jimmy Barnes many times but my best memory was at the Mooloolaba Pub. Still sticks in my mind. I was running a beach and cocktail bar down the road at another establishment. Wr were closed and we got some guy came down and asked if we could open for a private party late. Guess who showed up. One of the best work nights of my life.

As a kiwi, these two are some of biggest rock stars ever. Theres voices are so powerful, dynamic and there range was insane for male vocalists. Best thing is i as get older these two get better because of my appreciation for how great they were and that era, the 80's. If only we could bring that era forward again.

Also some men lose range with age (usually depending on technique) I’ll point you to Sammy Hagar and Glenn Hughes. Both still monster singers. In the same age range as John

Yeah, Shelly, I "think" I heard one time that when Roth left Van Halen it was either Barnesy or Sammy. And, I think Jimmy was tired of traveling around the world at that time and he was springboarding off of Chisel's success in Australia as a solo.

I really don't understand how these GREAT singers never got broader recognition outside of Australia/NZ. They have the chops of Freddie Mercury, Dio, etc, many times over.
Because they're not that great, but it seems to be Australian law that you can't say a bad thing about John "The Screech" Farnham, but the LRB record sales, or lack of them, told the true story. Lucky to get a couple of brilliant songs on Whispering Jack that would have been hits for anyone, but if you're honest, and you clearly won't be, he has had middle of the road success in his career otherwise. Capitol Records did NOT want Farnham as LRB's singer. Barnes is just a screamer, just happens that the music was written specifically for his voice.
Farnham was a phenomenal vocalist for the genre. I’ll grant you that his material was typically not that great but vocally he was amazing. I like Barnes pretty well but I will agree with you on your assessment of him.

Loved him from a teenager. No one can beat John ever. I have been lucky to see him a few times and at the Mornington Racecourse I was blown away by how many young people loved him and new and sang along with every word of his performance. It was amazing. John Farnham I love you.❤️🥰

This song, this singer, this is Australia. Im so proud to be an aussie and grow up in the best country on the planet. We were we still so young last century as a country, we had amazing music, and a freedom not seen for a few decades now. This song brings me back to simpler times, people talked not texted, we met at parks and beaches, cruised the rivers and lived our best days.
1. Jukebox hero. Foreigner I grew up in Australia as a gen X, and in 1984 being fourteen, whilst staying over at my parents' friends place, she said I could listen to her vinyl collection. When I put on Foreigner's "4" album I was totally blown away! Not only by the whole album but when I first heard the drum beat, beating like my own heart had been since starting on this spontaneous adventure of discovery, and then hearing the haunting way Lou Gramm comes in at the beginning of jukebox hero I knew my life would never be the same again. 2. When the war is over. Cold Chisel. On that same fateful day I played Cold Chisel's ( a 70's to early 80's Australian rock band) "Last stand" album. When I heard Ian moss's soulful voice and then Jimmy Barnes's power coming in later on, I knew that this band was mine. Sadly, Cold Chisel had broken up 2 years before. Even though using all my pocket money from doing odd jobs around the neighbourhood and delivering junk mail I vowed to mysel I would buy every album they had produced prior. 3. Driving wheels. Jimmy Barnes After Cold Chisels split up, Jimmy Barnes produced a few great solo albums like "Working class man" and Bodyswerve, but in 1987 he came out with the hit "Driving wheels" on the freight train heart album. As soon ass I heard Mark Lizotte AkA (Johnny Diesel) hit those chords at the start the song, it sent shivers down my spine, and the pure power of Jimmy Barnes voice I was gone. Going to see the concert for this album sitting in my seat as the crowd's noise became a hush, through the ddarkness came the piercing chords of Driving wheels and I will never forget that feeling.
FFS..., I wrote a "HUGE, THANK YOU" to the pair of these guys..., hit a button on my keyboard and lost the lot. 😭😂 Thank you..., Firstly John (It is my 65th birthday today 21/8/58) since I grew up with you and Sadie 🥰..., and later as a soldier of the Australian Army..., with Jimmy. The 2 of you are the "epitome" of Australian legends (along with Bon Scott 🥰)..., THANK YOU for ALL of the great memories. 🏆
Ran into Farnsy by chance. 1996, at Boondal Entertainment Centre. I was 9 completely starstruck. Genuine bloke, was far happier to see me lol. Even got the double Thumbs up, get well cobber.

I don't think ppl realise just how good John's voice and range was. He was incredibly good and doesn't sound too bad now for a 70 yr old.

1. Jukebox hero. Foreigner
I grew up in Australia as a gen X, and in 1984 being fourteen, whilst staying over at my parents' friends place, she said I could listen to her vinyl collection. When I put on Foreigner's "4" album I was totally blown away! Not only by the whole album but when I first heard the drum beat, beating like my own heart had been since starting on this spontaneous adventure of discovery, and then hearing the haunting way Lou Gramm comes in at the beginning of jukebox hero I knew my life would never be the same again.
2. When the war is over.
Cold Chisel.
On that same fateful day I played Cold Chisel's ( a 70's to early 80's Australian rock band) "Last stand" album. When I
heard Ian moss's soulful voice and then Jimmy Barnes's power coming in later on, I knew that this band was mine. Sadly, Cold Chisel had broken up 2 years before. Even though using all my pocket money from doing odd jobs around the neighbourhood and delivering junk mail I vowed to mysel I would buy every album they had produced prior.
3. Driving wheels. Jimmy Barnes
After Cold Chisels split up, Jimmy Barnes produced a few great solo albums like "Working class man" and Bodyswerve, but in 1987 he came out with the hit "Driving wheels" on the freight train heart album. As soon ass I heard Mark Lizotte AkA (Johnny Diesel) hit those chords at the start the song, it sent shivers down my spine, and the pure power of Jimmy Barnes voice I was gone. Going to see the concert for this album sitting in my seat as the crowd's noise became a hush, through the ddarkness came the piercing chords of Driving wheels and I will never forget that feeling.

The 2 of you are the "epitome" of Australian legends (along with Bon Scott 🥰)..., THANK YOU for ALL of the great memories. 🏆

Ran into Farnsy by chance. 1996, at Boondal Entertainment Centre. I was 9 completely starstruck. Genuine bloke, was far happier to see me lol. Even got the double Thumbs up, get well cobber.
