I've been to so many of his concerts over the years, and I've been completely blown away every single time. He is the greatest vocalist and performer I've ever had the privilege of hearing and seeing live.
Farnham. Hirschfelder. Garsed. Burchell. That’s a line up of raw talent. Add in Fields, Nelson and Field and you get perhaps the best Aussie live gig ever!
2024 and I just found him a few months ago.. I’m in Alabama, USA and I feel so cheated that I missed him back then but so thankful for RUclips and all the media available of his work.. Praying for John and family for strength while he recovers from his surgery and reconstruction.
@@larainesmith2631 We are so blessed to have so much of John on video...He's writing his memoirs right now and he's singing around the house lol but I doubt he'll return to the stage he's out riding his horses everyday...but yes we all muss him..
This song is still relevant today. John Farnham's passion, performance and vocals during the late 1980's was beautiful. His band, particularly David Hirschfelder (keyboards) and his lead guitarist (Bret Garsed) were outstanding.
Don't forget Angus on the drums. His band is one of the finest in the world. Even Kylie Mingoue used his live band for one of tours in Australia. I think it was the Impossible Princess tour in the late 90s
Can't believe this man wasn't an international star! He and I sing very similar and that's because I'm aiming to be an American Farnham. I sang this song last night I think and practice these songs all the time. He also was incredibly handsome. Little River Band were so much better when they had him. All the hate he gets is sickening. He is in my mind the greatest singer.
John was reluctant to do any tours or promotional tours of the USA after he left LRB. Apparently according to Glenn Wheatley John asked Glenn don’t make him successful in US
Best voice that’s ever come out of Australia ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
This song is part of Australian rock music history: John Farnham was a seminal figure in popular music with his formidable vocal range and his heart-on-sleeve ballads, he helped dismantle the previous solid jaw image of aussie maledom. Here he is the perfect interpreter of a song classic that comes from a time of post-Vietnam disturbance and unease, a song that tells of fierce young love & reckless quarrel, separation & regret, longing & remorse, realisation & resolution.
How can anyone make cold chisel look bland….. JF, the greatest voice to take a breath from god, and fortunate I was growing up with him as the soundtrack of my childhood.
the greatest voice in history forget elvis! Here is a beautiful soul with the pitch and range that other singers could ever hope for. Still humble and real. He is the real deal!
The best live performance of this song. I'm blown away listening to it 30+ years later. Even better than the Chisel original. Farnham's vocal outta this world.
I actually think he sang this song with even more presence and feeling back in 2003 from his live show called the last time. He is definitely one of the best male singer in the world. And he should be in the hall of fame a long time ago.
Totally agree. It still gives me chills to this day. I remember watching this concert on tv when I was 12! It was a huge thing and just about everyone watched it!
I have listened to various versions and without a shadow of doubt and in my personal opinion this particular cover he did in this Whispering Jack concert is by far the best. What a privilege having listened to this man for years whilst living Down Under ❤️
Brett Garsed's distortion tone on this is a text book example of how it can be used not for heavy metal but creates a "Sweet" sound! Take particular note in his solo.
He’s awesome and yes his range is out of this world. I don’t think I’ve ever heard him in his head voice. Even his highest of notes are in his chest. Spot on every time.
Farnham didn't have the international profile of Freddie or MJ, but clearly one of the best of that era. He was one of the first singers considered by Queen to replace Freddie but it never happened apart from some minor collabs in 2000 when he was past his prime. Farnham is my favourite singer. Best live singer Ive heard
Baha. No worries mate rock up with some footage of John doing the Fantomas stuff or DEP stuff. Be sure he covers all five plus octaves including the whistle register. *waits*
I wonder what it must feel like to have a whole stadium in complete silence, hanging on every note that you sing with absolute awe. You can see why they get such big egos- but not John. Yet another reason why he’s so awesome. ❤️
So very relevant for now. I am so very sad for the Israeli people and other innocent citizens who have suffered in this needless slaughter of human life.
"How can I go home and not get blown away" as sung by John Farnham - I lack the vocabulary to describe just how amazing this is. Utterly sublime is the best I can come up with. Jimmy Barnes sang it incredibly well, but Farnsey is the one that gives me chills.
In fact youve just answered your question. To hit high notes your whole body should in effect be like a yawn. Deep breath, drop diaphragm, open throat, with tongue in the yawn position, sing through the vowel. John also lifts his head ie positions the note through the top of his head to maximise resonance. 😊 I used to sing opera and its the same.
Gib Williamson,,, "John Farnham" Just as good here at the end of 2022 as he was then, One of Aussie's greatest singers,,, Have to say also Brett Garsed is no slouch on Guitar
Agreed. By far the best rendition of this classic John has ever performed to date. Heart and soul performance. I have this concert on DVD and Video tape. Watched this more times than I can say in the past 35 years.
Yes, that is the fabulous Wayne Nelson on Bass!! I love Wayne's singing voice!!! The performance of "Your the Voice" that has the children's chorus is from this same concert. The Whispering Jack Live Concert. It is on RUclips.
purple2275 I was a similar age, slightly younger - was indeed a landmark. We taped it off the TV and watched it thousands of times. Still love catching Farnsey live these days when he can... he has had a comeback vocally and is sounding better than ever !
john farnham you certainly have some great pipes on you been to every concert he gives 100 per cent fantastic singer respected as one of the best singers ever good on you dude keep on keeping on
I dedicate this song to a beautiful man a legend in his own right,he can hold his head high he has won the war the Honourable James Douglas Packer yours fondly Emma Charles.Thankyou.
Tubby..YES!..I'm going to post this and the Let Me Out solo on gear page and HRI....People have to remember Brett was coming up with this unique feel in the mid 80's when everyone was copying Malmsteen and Vai...Brett's guitar playing stands on it's own against those giants of the day!!...Aussie salute to Brett!!
Yes. This song was written by Steve Prestwich, the drummer with Cold Chisel. Steve also played drums for a little while for LRB when John was lead vocalist. I have a feeling John recorded this song with LRB with Prestwich on drums.
i remember that great series . it really hit me emotionally . when he reacted to his perceived and real and misguided betrayal .i could feel his disgust pain and anger .
I've been to so many of his concerts over the years, and I've been completely blown away every single time. He is the greatest vocalist and performer I've ever had the privilege of hearing and seeing live.
Can we just get on the train and go back to the 80's.
Voice what voice
Farnham. Hirschfelder. Garsed. Burchell. That’s a line up of raw talent. Add in Fields, Nelson and Field and you get perhaps the best Aussie live gig ever!
Best version of this song by a country Mile.
How can you listen to this and not get blown away! ❣️
This get's me everytime♥️
Yep and cry 😢 such a legend ❤
It's 2021 and I'm enjoying all the American and UK 'reactors' who have just discovered John. He is a living legend ....what a God given voice
Still applicable in 2022 ;-)
absolutely with you! Just brilliant!
And in 2023!! 😁

Man, his voice is on another level.
This song is still relevant today. John Farnham's passion, performance and vocals during the late 1980's was beautiful. His band, particularly David Hirschfelder (keyboards) and his lead guitarist (Bret Garsed) were outstanding.
That guitarist has a very international flavor. Very "american." He's on another level to the Aussie guitarists.
Don't forget Angus on the drums. His band is one of the finest in the world. Even Kylie Mingoue used his live band for one of tours in Australia. I think it was the Impossible Princess tour in the late 90s

Eeeeek, a lot of reactors are saying the greatest ever to hold a microphone….
Not just Australia.
The high notes in this performance are ridiculous.
John Farnham one of the greatest voices ever, Brett Garsed one of the greatest guitarists to ever live.
He’s brilliant, and backed by equally brilliant musicians and singers.
What’s not to like, that stage is full of Australia’s talent Pure Gold.

Wow nice summary, I kinda love it. But you got it right with John's singing , great song , it hits you in the heart then drags it through your ears.
Amen xxx
Yes!
How can anyone make cold chisel look bland….. JF, the greatest voice to take a breath from god, and fortunate I was growing up with him as the soundtrack of my childhood.

The best vocal l have ever heard !
That is the best voice anywhere. ❤
The best vocal talent Australia has ever known🙏🙏🙏
IMO, as a citizen of the US, he is one of the best vocal talents anywhere. TG for RUclips that we have been able to discover him, too.
Elvis doesn't come close to this.PERFECTION!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
The best live performance of this song. I'm blown away listening to it 30+ years later. Even better than the Chisel original. Farnham's vocal outta this world.
Serkan Kalkan I totally agree with you. He has such an amazing voice. I've loved him since I was 4 😍💖

By FAR the best version of this song.
Brett Garsed is an absolute monster guitarist. Just awesome.
Chris ACT... agreeded the guitar on this just stuck with me back when I first heard it....was like who is this guy???
Brett Garsed's distortion tone on this is a text book example of how it can be used not for heavy metal but creates a "Sweet" sound! Take particular note in his solo.

One of the best live vocal perfomances ive ever seen..Farnham at his very best.
This live arrangement is much better than the recorded version IMO.
The backing vocals are absolutely top notch too. :)
Agreed. This is my go to version. Farnham couldn't sing a bad note if he tried.
I always prefer him live. Better then the studio vocals .
@@michellebostock4276 definitely👌
Love Farnham. I went to a few of his Melbourne concerts in the late 80’s. The way he sang this song on this video. 🥺😭💛
If this isn't the Best Voice in the World, then I haven't heard it yet...John's Vocal Range and Passion is Just Amazing :)
Yep...we know that...but he still doesn't appear on any published list yet. Most give it to the guy from Queen or even MJ!
Farnham didn't have the international profile of Freddie or MJ, but clearly one of the best of that era. He was one of the first singers considered by Queen to replace Freddie but it never happened apart from some minor collabs in 2000 when he was past his prime. Farnham is my favourite singer. Mike Patton is better. Farnham not far behind.
Farnham could sing any Patton song with ease,Patton would be bloody ordinary singing Farnhams songs.
Baha. No worries mate rock up with some footage of John doing the Fantomas stuff or DEP stuff. Be sure he covers all five plus octaves including the whistle register. *waits*
Love this man, his voice and talent this is one of my favourites but I truly love all his songs.John Farnham is simply the best. Thanks Johnny.
I wonder what it must feel like to have a whole stadium in complete silence, hanging on every note that you sing with absolute awe. You can see why they get such big egos- but not John. Yet another reason why he’s so awesome. ❤️
Well said☺️
THE best performance of this song right here, he hits the high note at 4.05 which he doesn't do in ANY other version of this song.
Everything else sounds like elevator musak after this guy!!!!!
Geez this man is an absolute powerhouse!!! His voice is sensational, I love John so much ❤
It still sounds good after all these years!
Michael Halsall Sure does Never tire listening to John Farnham Such a time waster
Deffo one of the best voices ever in Rock music
Man ...John sure know how to touch your heart with that incredible voice of his,
Gives me goosebumps. Just amazing ❤
It is June 17- 2024. I this one and I love the one when John is in his 50s thankyou
I love this song....and even better John Farnham is singing it...Love the words "you and me we used each other's shoulders"...
Love it always.❤❤❤❤
Amazing vocals. Best version of this song.
John Farnham just as good now at then of 2019 as he ever was
So very relevant for now. I am so very sad for the Israeli people and other innocent citizens who have suffered in this needless slaughter of human life.
Well said mate..well said.
A rendition that Cold Chisel would be proud of. Gives me chills everytime. Verse starting at 3.30 - gets me each time.
"How can I go home and not get blown away" as sung by John Farnham - I lack the vocabulary to describe just how amazing this is. Utterly sublime is the best I can come up with.
Jimmy Barnes sang it incredibly well, but Farnsey is the one that gives me chills.
John is the Voice of the World 🌎 ❤️ 🙌
Big smile on my face watching this 😁🇦🇺
What an amazing voice, definitely the Voice of the World 🌎 ❤️
How the hell does he reach those notes without looking like he's yawning.its incredible
Voice training and voice exercises. Best place to train is, in a paddock, or in your car.
1. Vocal training
2. He is a countertenor, a rare male singing voice type that sits between the female alto and the male tenor.
It's just John. He is unique
