  • The St Paul's Pineapple band ringing for the 2022 London 12 Bell Competition held this year at St Paul's Cathedral, London. This band finished fourth out of the ten teams, and were behind St Paul's Dome, the Society of Royal Cumberland Youths, and ASCY Marchbank who came first with whopping score of 92%! Well done!
    The bells here are a 61cwt ring of twelve cast in 1878 by John Taylor and Co. They join a pre harmonic era of Taylor bells such as Imperial College and many more. They produce a loud and characterful sound that no one can describe, but when rung suit they surroundings beautifully! The tenor has that fabulous Taylor bellow to it and all of the bells match incredibly well! Hear is a full recording of the test piece which was 257 Stedman Cinques! Very musical to listen to! Also apologies if their is wind noise, the weather and atmosphere cause a few issues here and there! Anyway enjoy the true majesty of these bells!

    I would love to get into the NFT market but it's expensive with the gas price alone, something could cost $18 but the gas could be over $400

    I love St Paul's and not because they are wonderfully tuned like York instead.
    They are old style Taylor bells and they to me are the quintessential sound of London, the bells that are my home town where I was born and the sound that has rung out for Victory.
    I'm so glad they were not retuned even though I love the old pre-war Taylor heavy peals, York in terms being the jewel in the crown.

      Just the pull-off lifted the hairs off my spine! I really enjoyed listening to the touches, and then socialising with the ringers who rang in them!

      @@RingerThomas it is an amazing place
      Back in the 60s .y dad used to ring the ellecombe chime and then ring The Banger sometimes on a Saturday afternoon.
      The Banger is the extra bell incase you didn't already know
      I have also seen Great Paul ring twice.
      The first was in 1963 and the 2nd in 2000 when I videod it

      Agreed. While technically they are a 'bad' sounding ring, the tone and intervals imperfection just makes it so much more iconic.

      @@davros_adl8155when it comes to 12 bell harmonic perfection then it's York minster, but these old school Taylor peal are to be the sound of London.
      Some say they sound like scaffolding poles, regardless these are iconic.
      I'm so glad they weren't retuned

    What microphone were you using? It doesn’t sound like the wind is the issue here, but that the gain is set too high and the sound is clipping because of this. If it’s a zoom (I think I saw somewhere you had a zoom?!) then you can lower the gain for recording and then increase it slightly after. When I’ve recorded from just above the bells, I had it on an incredibly low setting, and adjusted in DAW after recording to bring to the desired volume.
    The other thing it sounds like if not the gain being too high is the gain having a gate on it, meaning audio over a certain volume couldn’t pass through and record?

      @RingerThomas  Год назад

      Hi! I used a Zoom H1N and accidentally had the gain on too high! So there is a bit of clipping! Learning eventually! 😂
