@Steven_Rowe Michael Wilby has turned it in, which there is a video on RUclips on Jack Gunnings channel. The bell felt quite smooth, although it was a bit weird to get used to. But it was a great experience! I would love to ring it without the strapper next time!!

@RingerThomas Thomas I'm certain you will,don't know if ringing heavy bells are appealing to you, to some they are, I like ringing tenors to Stedman as you can zone 0ur and listen which I like To be honest if I'm ringing inside on a 10 or 12 I like the 6 or the 8th, ie same bell, it is a bit like the goldilocks bell, just right. The first person to turn in Liverpool tenor to Surprise Max single handed for a peal was Peter Border, a rather large bl9ke with lots of stamina. My old man knew him as hexwas in the College youths and apparently when it came round Border had to ask someone to set the bell, he was a bit done in. I reckon a few pints got drunk after that peal. @Steven_Rowe Heavy bells are something I enjoy doing, although I don't push it. The heaviest I have rung is Windsor Castle tenor to a quarter, which was quite an effort to ring because of how difficult and oddstruck the bell was. @@RingerThomas I went to Windsor Castle with my dad in the early 60s, he worked for Whitechapel and was doing some work on them, I often went with him during school holidays. I loved and got to see so much.

I don't think anyone hates them Harry! They sound pretty terrible really, but it's the novelty that people like.

@@fredmills368 This time round i came to the conclusion that i would say the 5th is on par with the 4th. When i had the trap door open and turned over each bell for Abel sounds the 5th sounded just as bad!

I don't mind the sound. They have a very much industrial urban noise.

I never thought of it like that. Sound is such a subjective thing. I love the sound of St Paul's, very old school but very recognizable. I think of London, where I was born, the sound of victory and whilst I think Yorkminster are heaven it would sound so wrong at St Paul's. I often wonder if the abysmal tower acoustics at Liverpool cathedral will ever be fixed. It would cost mega£s

​@@Steven_Rowe Acton isn't a wealthy area, so the contrast with the bells and the area match pretty well. I always enjoyed ringing here!

@@RingerThomas Thomas, if I'm totally honest, I do like Simpson harmonic tuning, it just sounds so lovely but I do appreciate old school bells.

@@railtransportvlogsnsw7775 My dad was a bell hanger for Whitechapel till 1972 when we came to Aus. Did few jobs here Hung St Mary's Cathedral in 1986 also took out the old 6 at Parramatta, they were sent back to Whitechapel, returned and two trebles added to make an 8

These were their last complete ring, and what a masterpiece it was. The only thing that let them down now is that they were rehung by E&S which makes them slow turning and they are a bit quiet in the ringing room but otherwise very ringable and lovely sounding

@RingerLuca651 I looked at Gilletts and if this was indeed the last change ringing peal they cast their last bells in 1957 either as clock or Carillon bells. Very sad they stopped as they made very lovely sounding bells

@@RingerLuca651 Gilletts hanging was just as crap. It would seem that they replaced crap with crap! But they certainly are a good sounding ring and no doubt worth the effort!

I understand that some people might think the bells at Windsor Castle sound awful and that you'd expect Royalty to have nicer bells. Personally, I like the bells. The growly sound perfectly matches the old-style look of the Castle. A bland, modern ring wouldn't suit Windsor Castle at all!

@@RingerThomas I think a modern Taylor 12 would suit perfectly. Something like Ballymena or Broughton in Furness

Yes, there is a carillon drum above the ringing chamber, which plays the tune St. Davids at certain hours of the day.

Indeed, some Whitechapel bells are just bland and boring. But on bigger rings, that blandness turns into power!
