I’m a private hire driver specialising in medium to long distance runs from single trip business people, to families travelling to the airport. My first Superb was 16 plate SEL exec 190 bhp diesel fully loaded with 19 inch wheels, racked up just under 230,000 miles. My second Superb has around 150, 000 miles on it 150 bhp diesel 18 plate. Observations I wouldn’t bother with 19” wheels and low profile tyres makes the ride harsh, and as the review said the car isn’t designed to be sporty The 150 bhp Diesel engine still gives you plenty of go even fully laden and there’s no need for ad blue, the 180 feels much the same apart from top end roll on power at much higher speeds. Adaptive cruise control is a must have, as is a DSG box, the driver modes are also good to have because you can really stiffen up the car when required. The drivers seat gets a bit saggy at the 150k mark, the bi xenon headlights on dipped beam are rubbish and cut off far to early for acceptable motorway speeds so hopefully the new LED’s will resolve this one. The venting and air con are excellent, the visibility outstanding, and although the car is really long it’s dead easy to manoeuvre in tight spaces even in London traffic. The engines are bullet proof, although EGR valves are prone to go if you idle the engine a lot, the heated screens cost a fortune to replace if you end up cracking them so use the adaptive cruise control to keep a safe distance from trucks etc on the motorway. The space and comfort in these cars is immense nothing beats them, when I’m really busy I can be in the car for literally hours on an end and I wouldn’t swop it for anything comparable. Finally in 380,000 miles I’ve never broken down, it’s never failed to start, and it’s just a bloody great car!

I have the lower spec petrol engine and it's fine even when the car is loaded up.
What I love about skoda is that it's old school volkswagen people's car image that modern volkswagen lacks, you can be anyone and drive a skoda, can't do that with a passat and defo not an arteon. Plus skoda are more affordable than an equivalent VW
Can you elaborate on that ? I am having trouble imagining this as I work at Škoda and i have been surrounded by Škoda cars all my life ( Whenever a new top tier car comes, management immediately gets it as company car and the whole town is full of them :D etc)

Is there much difference in terms of practicality with the estate compared to the hatchback?I know the estate has about 30- 40 litres more space but can you still get lots of kit in the hatch and practical.i test drove the estate and was so impressed with what you get for your money.
Really good presenter, not sure if it's your camera operator or your editor but get some cut away shots. Esp when he's talking about leg room, transmission hump etc.
New Mazda 6 or this Skoda superb(sedan variants)? What would be your choice? Mazda 6 has more luxurious interior I would say, but engines without turbo, at least in Europe.
Great video, thank you very much. I have an SEL, pre new facelift. not an estate, with 1.5 petrol. she’s great, I have the 18 inch wheels. Can I buy smaller wheels that will fit and function normally without fowling on anything? How small can I go and how do I know how tall the sidewalls of the Tyres should be? Many thanks.
I believe the handling can be made much better with the simple addition of a stiffer rear sway bar as a start and then better shocks etc if you want to go a bit further.
Best choice that the police have made, for so many reasons, practical, safety, and the rear seat passengers have more room, and the Euro tech at a good price, Simply Clever..
It sounds crazy I know but this car is in the same class as based on the same platform as Passat.... and Passat is 3 serries and a4 competitor. I have owned Superb, 3 serries and Passat but not a4. I can say that the Passat feels closer to the 3 serries in size but yet definitely larger. The superb on the other hand, it feels like completely different car, in a class of it's own. Not even closer with the Passat let alone the 3-serries. But... they still class them together!
I have a 68 plate, I got mine keep on nearly new due to the facelift. Personally I prefer the badge rather than the Skoda name on the boot. I have to say this is the best car I've ever owned. I have an SE Executive with a few bells. The only thing I couldn't get that I wanted was the fully digital display. However, at the time the review were saying that there was a delay on the display, which for the most part is not a problem, except on the speed counter...... However, I have to say at the moment the Skoda's are probably the best buys at the moment. Unless you are truly going for luxury, this gives you everything you need.
First Skoda 2012... very good car 2014 second Skoda... very good car 2016 third Skoda...very good car 2019 fourth Skoda...very good car. Sometimes depends how is driving...
The Superb sits between the 3 and the 5 series in terms on size. Strangely, it seems the Superb estate has 90 litres more space in the boot than a 5 series even though the 5 series is a longer vehicle. I guess the long bonnet on the 5 series takes up more space.
I have 2 Skoda Superb combi TDI 170 from 2010 and L&K TDI awd 190 from end of 2016 ... difficult buy something else when you have tried them...next Will be gasoline 272hp
Really enjoying your reviews, especially the „how should you spec one“ part which sets you somewhat apart from carwow for that matter. Keep up the good work! The Superb looks beautifully in that trim, only wish you had told me if I should - avoid it, - consider it, - shortlist it, - orjustgorightaheadandbuythesuperb. Greetings from Germany!
not too long ago i bought a 2017 Superb TDI 2.0 150hp Limousine Style trim, and i couldn't be more happy with the car. it's very comfortable, roomy, surprisingly agile while retaining great fuel economy and classy. also kinda surprised how many heads it turns, not smt i anticipated. great car.
The very top spec L&K trim 272bhp AWD....even with extra spec is £47k list price. You'll get it for around £42/43k. Yes, it's not quite as refined and sporty as an Audi and the interior isn't as plush.....but an A6 with similar spec could cost you £15k more.
Good review but missed out child seats and whether there is space for an adult between them. As grandparents who have to occasionally take twins and their baby sister, this is a feature we look for. 3 isofix in the rear or 2 with space for granny between in the rear with number 3 in the front passenger seat.
8:22 as you can have sportline plus without dsg, and if it's not sporty anyway, might an SE L 1.5tsi manual with DCC be a good combo for my tastes? Currently driving a small manual rwd bmw with 2ltr turbo petrol with 250bhp.
It's the same except the boot is smaller (less height). Still a massive boot beating a lot of cars and incredibly usable since it's a rentangle. I know because I have the hatch version. Brilliant car
Very professional and informative review. Just a couple of grammar errors though. 1 it should be compared WITH not TO. 2 re seats he should have said SITTING not SAT - the latter being past tense. Otherwise great🎉🎉🎉
Has the same seats-up rear boot space as a 308 SW, I kid you not (though it's a different story when you put them down). There's an iV plug-in hybrid which loses 150 litres of space - I'm surprised this model wasn't brought up.
Good video but some constructive criticism... 1. When talking about driving position, can you talk more about actual seat comfort? Also would be interested to know how well centred driver is to steering wheel and pedals as many Germans cars are not. 2. Very few car reviews ever talk about the stereo quality. What is the standard spec (speakers, wattage) Vs upgrade? 3. Why does every car reviewer compare the Superb to the A4 and 3 Series? Surely size wise it's more A6 and 5 Series? 4. You didn't say much about the driving experience. It sounded quite nosy. Is it? 5. You said there was a "new diesel engine”. What does that mean? 6. Why do so many car reviewers criticise infotainment controls and never acknowledge the functionality of the steering wheel? Clearly reaching for the volume knob for the driver is not actually a problem! 7. Work on the hand waving. It's a bit over the top. Cheers
I have driven/owned a 55 plate Merc W211 E280 (V6 3 litre diesel 190bhp) Avantgarde estate for the past 8 years and am considering changing to a Superb estate. Should I do it and what will I miss? (apart from the high running costs)
The Superb. Go for diesel 190 hp , 4x4 and dsg. And DCC (adaptive dampers) is a nice option. Leave it in comfort and you're good to go. Get rid of 19 wheels. Buy after market 18 for summer and 17 for winter (if you have snow in your country)
I wish they sold the Skoda line up of autos in the USA!!!!! A different look, with what sounds like superb features. I would buy one if they did. Does anyone know if they ship to USA & if so, how much it would cost to ship one? I love the shade of blue. Is this the metallic color you had mentioned?
Hi, in Czech republic where Skoda is mostly produced, the car in video costs about 56k $ and shipping with insurance is at least another 10k $. You can have fully loaded BMW 3 (even M). Skoda Superb is great car competing with Passat etc. but with US car prices it does not worth import ti into US.
I have the 1.5TSI SE L estate and the engine is perfectly fine for lugging loads about. Worth noting that the model shown, 4x4 Sportline is absolutely loaded with extras. The Sportline in UK is based on the entry-level Superb S with sporty kit and some interior cosmetic bits and bobs. I had a 2017 standard Sportline in 187ps diesel which someone wrote it of in an accident. Replaced it with the SE L 1.5TS, which, all-round for, comfort and kit is a far nicer car.
Wtf everybody is solving some buttons. But what about motor? Benzin motor had all big problems and diesel 2.0 tdi had also very much big problems. Will they solve it?
I bought mine last week, the only thing I hate about it is having to move the driver seat forwards and backwards slowly to get in and out. Other than that it’s perfect 😍
4:02 Fun fact: with passenger seat at the furthest position, Superb sports 8 cm more than previous S Class. Measured 😉👍🏻 In fact, one would need to get A8L to have more space in the back. Standard A8 loses to Skoda in this regard. I know, I know. Audi is so much better, right? But still, costs so much more 😉
I had one, 2018/2019 top of the range, ticks all the boxes for passenger and load capacity, performance and economy, BUT because it is big inside it is pretty noisy I wasn’t convinced by build quality
just curious, with current climate regulations, and city centres putting in charges, as bristol are, I am changing to petrol, regardless, as diesels are better in some cases, but petrol is favoured, more so with hybrids. I find it strange that car testers still favour diesel, when they will be charged to enter cities.
Nice review! One thing I don’t get... 2.0 TDI diesel produces 106 g/km CO2 2.0 TSI petrol produces 161 g/km CO2, this is 50% more compared to the diesel equivalent🤷🏻♂️ How about our common goal in reducing CO2?
Listen to the In Car Camera Shots!!!!!! . . . . .Listen. The road noise in Skoda Superbs is terrible. I had one and it was one of the reasons I sold the car. Sure the car is huge, has so much space and mine never let me down, but, it was so noisy inside!! I moved from it to a Passat which was a vast improvement. From there to an A4 which is just another world in terms of comfort and road noise.
I love the new superb but, Seriously??? You are comparing the longest car and the top of the range from Skoda the superb with the Audi A4 and bmw 3 series?? Saying that is the best in the range.. you need to compare it with the Bmw 5 series estate, Audi A6 estate and then you need to make an argument.

I have a UK model and never bothered me the shortcut buttons are on the far side...but I am 6' 1" tall. My main issue is when the radio/satnav/Media etc functions freeze and won't work again until I stop and turn the car off and on again! Like the Estate but the face lift over my 2018 model is minimal.
@Doneandgone well the dsg trans not so much but yeah very well put together
Can you elaborate on that ? I am having trouble imagining this as I work at Škoda and i have been surrounded by Škoda cars all my life ( Whenever a new top tier car comes, management immediately gets it as company car and the whole town is full of them :D etc)
@@LelouchLamperouge235 I've heard the dsg trans isnt as smooth as the manual and is known to judder as well as sometimes going into limp mode for no reason
@@LelouchLamperouge235 if you look at a passat, areton, golf or polo you see a car to rival audi but for a lesser price, it's a car for a middle class family of an income 29k>. If you look at a skoda you see a blue-collar working family car with an income
@@harleyrobertson73 could be ... VW, Škoda and Seat are kinda mixed in my eyes ... Seat gets sporty engines, their own cupra sub-brand etc ... VW is a huge mix of everything for everybody (makes me think of Samsung and how many phones they make for some reason) Škoda mostly just gets markets with lower average buying power (India, Russia) and then China - thats a special market on its own ... basically its viewed as a worse VW (which it is) that is perhaps more practical in some areas (cargo space for price and certain little clever ideas that might come in handy during everyday use.
Does the back seata get some air vents?
I work for skoda, had a customer come in look at the Estate Se 1.5 manual, had a quote from you guys which we absolutely smashed (mind there was a bit of confusion as you dont break down your figures), walked away a very happy man.

Do they still come with a full size spare wheel, rather than a space-saver or 'inflation device'?
@@simonlb24 space saver due to the piece it fits in.

@@thebatcave89 yes
I don't need a car anywhere near this big, but I want one because I like how it looks
No mention of the IV: why is that? IIRC it was released in 2019.
Is there much difference in terms of practicality with the estate compared to the hatchback?I know the estate has about 30- 40 litres more space but can you still get lots of kit in the hatch and practical.i test drove the estate and was so impressed with what you get for your money.
It sounds loud in the cabin. It would be good if you routinely measured how loud the cabin noise is when travelling at motorway speeds.
They are awfully loud in the cabin. Trust me. I had one and sold it because of it.
Really good presenter, not sure if it's your camera operator or your editor but get some cut away shots. Esp when he's talking about leg room, transmission hump etc.
Which model has the ordinary turn on and go sat nav please?
remember only UK and Malta are right hand drive in EU .. so the touch screen menu buttons on left make sense
New Mazda 6 or this Skoda superb(sedan variants)? What would be your choice? Mazda 6 has more luxurious interior I would say, but engines without turbo, at least in Europe.
At least Mazda is reliable and looks far better from the outside. Suberb is a lot bigger...
Many thanks.
the main thing i would like is for them put put the infotaiment at the level of the vents
How does it compare to the Yeti for driver height and position?
I believe the handling can be made much better with the simple addition of a stiffer rear sway bar as a start and then better shocks etc if you want to go a bit further.
Dad wagon goals 👌
I'd like one in Scout version. Who would need an Audi Allroad?
Best choice that the police have made, for so many reasons, practical, safety, and the rear seat passengers have more room, and the Euro tech at a good price, Simply Clever..
Why do you compare this to the bmw 3-series and audi a4? Isn't superb more like 5-series and a6?
Nope
@@Jebdddylajtvejt Octavia = 3-series & A4, Superb = 5-series & a6.
Owner of this brilliant car quality-price! Love it!
Thank you Skoda 🚕
First Skoda 2012... very good car
2014 second Skoda... very good car
2016 third Skoda...very good car
2019 fourth Skoda...very good car.
Sometimes depends how is driving...
I’ve got 2017 superb sport line 2.0tdi, excellent car in every aspect. Love it.
We've tested the Sport Line and yes it looks by far the best, but make sure you opt for the duller versions
Wouldn't it be more similar size to the 5 series estate not the 3 series ??
The Superb sits between the 3 and the 5 series in terms on size. Strangely, it seems the Superb estate has 90 litres more space in the boot than a 5 series even though the 5 series is a longer vehicle. I guess the long bonnet on the 5 series takes up more space.
@@shaunsheppard3936 BMW being rear wheel drive tends to have a shallower boot space. Which effects the overall capacity.
Yeah but when you consider price you can’t really compare it to a 5 series, a6 or e class
Isn't the superb supposed to be compared to the BMW 5-series and the Audi A6 avant instead of 3-Series and A4?
I have 2 Skoda Superb combi TDI 170 from 2010 and L&K TDI awd 190 from end of 2016 ... difficult buy something else when you have tried them...next Will be gasoline 272hp
Please do a review about the superb scout.
Thats the only trim I'm interested in
Really enjoying your reviews, especially the „how should you spec one“ part which sets you somewhat apart from carwow for that matter. Keep up the good work!
The Superb looks beautifully in that trim, only wish you had told me if I should
- avoid it,
- consider it,
- shortlist it,

Compared to an E220d?
Good review but missed out child seats and whether there is space for an adult between them. As grandparents who have to occasionally take twins and their baby sister, this is a feature we look for. 3 isofix in the rear or 2 with space for granny between in the rear with number 3 in the front passenger seat.
I'm looking to buy a used 2016 model either se technology or se l, if anyone owns or has owned this car would you recommend?
7:33 I like revs and I like doing downshifts if more grunt is needed.
8:22 as you can have sportline plus without dsg, and if it's not sporty anyway, might an SE L 1.5tsi manual with DCC be a good combo for my tastes? Currently driving a small manual rwd bmw with 2ltr turbo petrol with 250bhp.
Go the Octavia RS estate instead. Brilliant car.
Why is video cropped and doesnt show when u talk about cup holders or talking about space..
What's that noise while driving?
Do any of you guys tow a caravan with one of these, and if so, which engine have you got
Why is a 3 series compared to a Skoda Octavia? It's smaller than Octavia even....
Would love to see the saloon version.
@Johnny Dong not sure I follow?
The shortcut buttons are perfectly positioned there. You just sit at the wrong side of the car.
What a beauty, especially in that color... and those seats! Does the center armrest adjust up and does it pull forward?
Up yes forward no
Comparing with Mondeo yes, but why with much smaller cars like the BMW 3 series and Audi 4 series? These are in the same class as the Octavia.
Cheers
You’re funny...
@@pes6616 please explain...
Why was the 187BHP diesel missed from the engine performance stats?
Exactly thatd be the best one for most ppl to get spec wise
anyone know about the noise level?
I have iV sportline, the 19" with DCC is very comfortable. Also despite being a sportline I have the amundsen headunit lol
I have driven/owned a 55 plate Merc W211 E280 (V6 3 litre diesel 190bhp) Avantgarde estate for the past 8 years and am considering changing to a Superb estate.
Should I do it and what will I miss? (apart from the high running costs)
I did it.
Can someone please help me. I can choose between the (2020) Skoda Superb, Skoda Octavia or the Volvo V60 but i have no idea which one i should choose.
The Superb. Go for diesel 190 hp , 4x4 and dsg. And DCC (adaptive dampers) is a nice option. Leave it in comfort and you're good to go. Get rid of 19 wheels. Buy after market 18 for summer and 17 for winter (if you have snow in your country)
You wrote 7 speed manual.. anyway, good review man!
Big fan in sport line trim 👍
Sounds like a fantastic car! Excellent review, too. Thankyou
I bought mine last week, the only thing I hate about it is having to move the driver seat forwards and backwards slowly to get in and out. Other than that it’s perfect 😍
what engine? I would like to know about the noise level because i'm planning to buy the diesel 190hp. If anyone would know. thx
But still, costs so much more 😉
i love the looks and practicality of this one!
SE tech you say but it's not on your trim line up 🤔
Nové škody vyzerajú úžasne !
I find it strange that car testers still favour diesel, when they will be charged to enter cities.
they favor it because they are objectively better... they are reviewing the car, not your local environmental policy
Valuable information , thanks. Spare wheel option was missing in review...
Great review
Great prensetation. No bull.
Does it fall apart after 5 years?
Nice review! One thing I don’t get...
2.0 TDI diesel produces 106 g/km CO2
2.0 TSI petrol produces 161 g/km CO2, this is 50% more compared to the diesel equivalent🤷🏻♂️
How about our common goal in reducing CO2?
Surely this cars in same size class as a 5 series estate?
It’s massive, so why compare it to an Audi A4?
Agree - it should be compared with the A6, 5 series, E class and Passat estates
@@piersgooderham8674 yes but interior in bmw or audi is far away of this superb

Listen to the In Car Camera Shots!!!!!! . . . . .Listen. The road noise in Skoda Superbs is terrible. I had one and it was one of the reasons I sold the car. Sure the car is huge, has so much space and mine never let me down, but, it was so noisy inside!! I moved from it to a Passat which was a vast improvement. From there to an A4 which is just another world in terms of comfort and road noise.
Is noise in inside
A ski hatch.. how novel, I remember thinking that was great when my dad got a ford Sierra!
We got the steering wheel 100 years ago. Ppl where thinking what a great idea
In that blue it is a thing of beauty
I'd love to see a comparison of Skoda's infotainment Vs Audi mmi.
I really like the look of that! 👍
Surely the superb estate should be compared to a 5 series and a6, not 3 series and a4.
It’s a Passat, same platform, engines, gearbox. In fact very little difference in size to the actual Passat estate.
In terms of size, yes. Price is much closer to the A4 and the 3 series, so its more likely people would cross shop this.
Thats what I reacted to too!
just compare it with hyundai n kia , the germans are too big for this shit
