Having had one for 7 months I can confirm the infotainment system is so glitchy, I've decided to sell the car. Skoda dealer having to seek Skoda UK permission to replace the screen. 4th visit to the dealership to get a screen related problem fixed! So frustrating, as we like everything else about the car. Well, finally Matt! It was about time. I was waiting for this review for several months already - all others did their part. The warning when you open the door and the engine is on, also helps when its in stop mode and the engine is technically still on but not actually running.
The "false floor" is a brilliant feature and many more estates and SUV/CUVs should have it. I would rather have than than a third row seat no one would sit in.

I have the current version 1.5 SEL and this does not seem any different except a softer suspension and the frustrating touchscreen air con control. With the current version you just turn easy to find rotary knobs. He's right about reflective materials being distracting. I had the pre facelift version and the facelift introduced piano black material which reflect sun and street lamps. All that said, I've had two in a row because it offers value, space, economy and quality. The 1.5 has cylinder deactivation which gives me 10% better fuel consumption than the previous 1.4.
I have 2013 Skoda Octavia 2.0 diesel Elegance and it's on of the most reliable car ever.. I have done with the car 3 trips from Cardiff to Prague with no problems.. love my škoda simple clever 😁
I have the old one and its ruined cars for me.... It does everything I need it to do (albeit relatively boring) making it hard for me to warrant anything else
I'd take boring but practical any day before everything else. We drive new cars for years so after 2,3 months of "exciting" or more interesting one you confess to yourself all the stuff that gets on your nerves but then also "oh no, I still need to pay my monthly payments..." Trust me, I switched from Octavia to Talisman and while Talisman is way more refined and comfy on the road, looks cool on the outside, also full of tech and youth like ambiental light; it makes me want to cry every time precise visibility is important. Because of the roof line + it has big, full head rests at the back. Camera helps, but that means little when on the road. It's even worse towards front as it doesn't have that low front bonnet (Like Passat, BMW saloons etc.) but rather tall one + again, the "cool" roof line. So mostly you are estimating/guessing where your front is passing. And I'm stuck with it for a 3 more years.
@@L0vac Maybe this guy is one who prefers Mazda Miata, please! Skoda Octavia are way more practical, if you can have a second car ok, but having a Miata for primary car? No!
I tend to disagree with Matt on the 'fairly decent' infotainment system and features. Those are pretty good features considering the price. Infact, I wasn't even expecting such features on a car that belongs to this price range. Furthermore, even though a car needs to be exciting but with this one it seems that Skoda focused on practicality. If I had the budget, I would definitely buy it.
@@oliverstemp9132 I dont think they have redone the Jetta in a while, but they did give a new one for Europe. I believe after Volkswagon Dieselgate most Americans sont like them and their sales have gone down. Could be wrong. I know their Atlas while good when introduce was a disappointment this year for reviewers. I know they just "donated" 2 Jettas to my former career center. I guess no one wanted them. It would be cool if we had station wagons. Idk today I really think I station wagons are cool. But dont trust that Euro quality and the Subaru Outback is off the list as my friend just got one and it broke after 3 days. So I will have to wait for a good wagon for a long time.
When the company leasing for my former Passat ended last year, I was told that I'm going to get a Skoda equivalent as a successor due to better delivery times. I automatically assumed that they had ordered a Superb for me. Imagine my surprise when suddenly they were like "Your new Octavia is here.". At first I was angry and disappointed with their choice, but my opinion after almost a year of driving it has changed drastically. The Octavia may be a bit smaller than the Passat and Superb, but it comes awfully close to them in terms of space. I carry a lot hardware and equipment with me in the car and never ever did I have to worry about something not fitting in there. I've done multiple store closures where I easily had more than 1,000 litres of hardware to put in the car and I never came close to having issues. We've also done quite a few long excursions with my girlfriend and our 6-year old daughter in it and not once was comfort or space a problem. Combined with the fact that the car can sit comfortably doing 175kph, or 110mph, on the German Autobahn (and the 150hp Diesel engine can go as fast as 224kph, or 140mph, and it's still relatively comfortable), and the fact that the ride itself is surprisingly smooth, this car has positively surprised me in every way. Yes, the build quality is a bit worse and material may be cheaper than on a Passat, but at the end of the day, you get pretty much just as much car as with a Passat. To me, as someone who drives about a thousand km per week and enjoys a stable ride while listening to my music and podcasts and who has to carry quite a bit of stuff at all times, this car is all I ever need. And cheap on the tax too. :)
@@johannescarlsson4559 Mine has acoustic glass, which is an optional extra, so I've never really had moments where I thought the car is too loud. The engine is also the same 150hp, 2.0lt Diesel that I had before, so I didn't notice any real difference there either. It's fine.
I have 2019 L&K with everything, and the RS Diesel engine (187BHP). My last car was a BMW X1 last generation. I would pick my Skoda over and over again :-)
I drove an Octavia like that for a year. So I wanted to drive it. But most of the time it was in the workshop. Because of software problems that neither the workshop nor Skoda could solve themselves. If we hadn't returned the Octavia, we would still be waiting for the big software update today. There still isn't one. Otherwise, it was a fine car with lots of space, it was quiet, fast and economical.
Never understand car manufacturers that put a prop shaft tunnel on a car where 90% of the Engine & Drive options dictate front wheel drive and because 1 variant has 4 wheel drive, they sacrifice rear leg/foot room on ALL models. Just make a specific chassis for the 4WD models

But when everything is controlled by the touch screen and the touch screen doesn't respond to a touch, one has a big problem!
Was it that bad of an experience. Thinking of a 2021 Octavia.
@@crunchchannel8788 Well we've had the car nine months now, and the screen was replaced last week. Along with yet another rattle being fixed, this time the strike plate for the driver's door. I think maybe we've had a Friday car, but I don't think we could trust it beyond the manufacturer's warranty, in case we continue to have things go wrong. Just make sure you give the screen a good once over before buying, and go over some bumpy roads. In terms of practicality, comfort and economy the car is great - we have the 150 bhp manual, SEL.
@@rad1sh480 thanks for taking the time to reply. I saw a 150hp Diesel from 2021. I am mostly looking at used. But i will follow your advise for sure if I decide to go test it.

I do like this car , in estate version! Even more in the Scout version. For me it is a perfect family car, for a decent price, and it is very well equiped. And yes, I would pick it up over a Golf.
I had both for work . Golf dont even compare. Golf is totally different car Golf should be compare against Fabia then it win. The truth is every Golf wish to be octavia as much as every octavia wishes to be Passat. Cause octavia seats right between Golf and Passat. Vw has firmer suspension for sure

The warning when you open the door and the engine is on, also helps when its in stop mode and the engine is technically still on but not actually running.

Bought the Octavia in December, same colour but sports edition without any chrome on the outside, 18" wheels and racy interieur. Love it! Easy to handle, easy to park, even at the narrow car park. Just get in and relax.

I got this Octavia with Style Package and the 1.5 TSi (150hp) and I´m absolutely happy with this car. As someone said "Skoda is the luxury car brand for normal earning peope"
Octavia is a roomy, comfy, techy, practical and reliable car, it is also economical.Besides, because of sharing the same engines with the vw group, it is easy to have the car serviced. As a result, it is worth the money you give.
Thank you for your comment I really needed it I see a lot of hatful and bad comments about it !!
640 liters mean way more to me than cubic-feet or any other imperial measurements! convert to metric for the love of god! it’s a standardized issue! the meter is exactly one meter everywhere in the world! whereas a foot, a mile, an inch are just measurements of uncertainties!!!!😉😂
I am glad i am not the only one who thinks this
A litre is the same worldwide as well!
Max 1 litr = 1 dm^3 = 0,001 m^3. So basically yes.
640 litres is exactly 1280 czech beers. Can we turn in to this measure? Everybody understand that.
All civilised people know that the length of a cricket pitch is a chain. All other measurements are superfluous.
11:48 that's actually pretty clever..
Why don't a lot of manufacturers start doing that?
because most people won't even do that themselves

Please improve the sound quality, it is too low than on any other channels. I always have to increase the volume like 80% higher on CarWow.
Yes, I agree. The last few videos have been really quiet!
In India, you get this with a 2L petrol with around 180 HP
I have the current version 1.5 SEL and this does not seem any different except a softer suspension and the frustrating touchscreen air con control. With the current version you just turn easy to find rotary knobs.
He's right about reflective materials being distracting. I had the pre facelift version and the facelift introduced piano black material which reflect sun and street lamps.
All that said, I've had two in a row because it offers value, space, economy and quality. The 1.5 has cylinder deactivation which gives me 10% better fuel consumption than the previous 1.4.

I have the old one and its ruined cars for me.... It does everything I need it to do (albeit relatively boring) making it hard for me to warrant anything else
How about boring?
I'd take boring but practical any day before everything else. We drive new cars for years so after 2,3 months of "exciting" or more interesting one you confess to yourself all the stuff that gets on your nerves but then also "oh no, I still need to pay my monthly payments..."
Trust me, I switched from Octavia to Talisman and while Talisman is way more refined and comfy on the road, looks cool on the outside, also full of tech and youth like ambiental light; it makes me want to cry every time precise visibility is important.
No!
Same for me and the Vauxhall Astra Mk7. It's perfect in every way apart from being interesting.

I think this actually would do well in the US as a VW more than a normal VW.
That spot is taken by the Jetta, not an estate but then again when the Golf was around in estate form that didn't do amazingly either...
I'm surprised they didn't just rebadge this for the new USA Jetta
No wagons don't sell in USA
As a ŠKODA octavia vrs owner I am quite offended you assumed no one ever launches it 🤔🤔

Still a boring car for boring people

@@PhDPIMP I assume you might be a Ferrari owner, right?
@A real bisexual petrol-head not all family cars are boring, skoda's are.
How's the overall noise level compared to Superb/Passat?
