    Great review of the ŠKODA Superb Scout 200TSI Paul! You asked the question about the centre armrest storage compartment. Well, as you identified in the rear seats, the headrests have the "Smart Holders" for the iPads etc. The compartment in the front actually allows you to store your iPad whilst you are away from the car, to keep them from prying eyes. UPDATE AT END: Just upgraded for a Passat Alltrack to the 2021 scout. I've had it for nearly 3 weeks now.
    The car is very roomy, suspension is firm and a little noisy (although I have the 19inch wheels which has a lot to do with it) but overall I'm pretty happy with it.
    At the last minute Skoda decided not to release the car with DAB or key personalization for some reason. The MY20 Scout doesn't have a factory towbar in Australia but the MY21 does (I'm waiting on ADR compliance to have the dealer fit it) .
    My only real concern is the fuel consumption. I'm averaging 12.3l/100km which is nowhere near it's stated figures. I drive to work (8 minutes) and pick up my daughter on the way home so I don't travel much. In comparison, my Volvo XC70 weighed 2 tonnes, had a bigger petrol engine and returned about the same figures. The Passat was diesel and averaged 8.8l. I know driving style is a major factor, but my style is consistent so I'll be keeping a close eye on the usage.
    UPDATE 24/03/2021
    I'm still happy with the car but the fuel economy is a joke. On a full tank I get just over 500km to a tank from a car with a 2L 4-cylinder engine. Pretty disappointed and the dealership seemed to just dismiss my concern. I can't help but wonder how they get their official figures.

    • @Fredescu
      @Fredescu 3 года назад +4

      Constant short trips is never good for fuel economy. If your Passat was the 140TDI, it tested urban cycle economy is 6.3L/100km. Your 8.8l result is 39% higher than stated. The Superb has an urban figure of 9L/100km. Your 12.3 result is 36% higher than stated. So your Superb isn't that much different to your Passat.
      During Covid lockdown, my wife was driving our Grand Cherokee just for very local trips in our suburb, while I was working from home. It was getting 14L/100km in that time. I wondered if something was wrong, but as soon as I went back to the office driving 20minutes each way, that dropped to 11L/100km, despite still being a city commute. That's still high compared to what it gets on the highway. Length of trip and the amount of coasting you can do makes a huge difference.

    I had my heart set on one of these, did all my research and was about to sign a contract for one. However as it turns out, the towing capacity is great, but irrelevant, as you can't get a factory fitted towbar. Something to do with Skoda Australia not ticking the box to include the necessary wiring loom or some such. Otherwise I would have one in my driveway right now. I recently compared Mondeo, Passat, Leon, Avensis, while looking for a station. NONE of them offers such value for this price. Also space - 10cm in Octavia and 20cm more in SuperB is really appreciated, when you need to place a child seat behind without touching the front seats. Did I mention fuel consumption? I could NOT exceed 5,5L/100km on spanish hills 160km/h on a highway. In flat Netherlands at 120km/h cost me max 4L on each 100km. 1.6 greenline diesel. Also yearly tax for Octavia is much less than Mondeo, Passat, Leon, Avensis due to less weight and cleaner engine. Done 15k km in 5 months and have to say already that my next car will be also Octavia, if not SuperB. After 2026, when they can't get into the city centers, I'll be looking for a Tesla ;)

    The Volvo V90 Cross Country would be another in this segment as well as Audi AllRoad and VW AllTrack models.
    It’s a shame with the wireless charging it doesn’t just go ahead and support wireless Apple CarPlay etc cos when you plug it in, a convenient place to put it is the wireless charge pad but with the cable sticking out it won’t fit snugly.

      I'm looking at updating from my Alltrack. VW service is pathetic so I want a different make (yes, I know Skoda is VW, but they have a longer warranty and are buckets load better value). I looked at the Allroad and it's too small, the V90 Cross Country would've been my pick except the price of a new Scout is equivalent to a second-hand Cross Country. If it wasn't for that I'd have done the Volvo in a heartbeat, my last two cars were Volvo and I loved them!

    If I were to get a VAGroup car, I’d go with a Skoda, makes the most sense to me. Bigger than its brothers on the same platform generally, and cheaper. Remember the days when V8 Commodores proudly displayed the 185 badge? Now a two litre has more power...

    150mm ground clearance is rubbish. My 2015 Octavia Scout has 171mm according to specs and I've just been outside and checked it by shoving a 150mm box underneath and seeing approx. 20mm gap. Even my 2008 Vauxhall Astra SRI normal hatchback has about 170mm apart from exhaust box (probably cat under middle of car) which protrudes down to 150mm clearance. Octavia Scout has excellent attack and departure angles at front and rear meaning you can go up steep verges, down steep banks. Even with 170mm I struggled to not ground it out when on deep rutted track with big mound in middle. If you want to go mildly off-road, green lanes, rocky tracks and not just engineered chippings etc you need 200mm to be safe, ideally >180mm. This Superb is not even a soft-roader.
