      Yeah recently took me and a buddy 6 hours to play 2 rounds... in our defence we both started playing 40k in 10th edition and we had more like 12-15 data sheets each. We where playing Tyranids vs SM and could likely have played highlander mode.

    Played a tournament yesterday and your dice trick saved me 5ish minutes every game! Usually played with 36dice(abox) and some rnd dice to add. This time used 36 and another 14 of one colour.
    Man i finished my three games in 1h06min, 54min and 1h02min. ALL Games played out till R5 (i mean R5 takes 2min usually but still^^)
    Thanks a lot, this gives some free minutes wich could save my ass in harder/more chaotic games!

    Great tips as always! One I thing I might add (as someone who has timed out at tournaments before) is to consider time as a resource in list design as well. Some units are going to just play slower than others, if I am playing sisters with 30 arcos that have 2 wounds each, a 4+ fnp, and a bucket of attacks I know that will be a heavy investment of my clock so I look for places I can save time in my list elsewhere.

    • @theblackantonio

    One piece of advice for playing while your learning your datasheets. Activate your units systematically. I have a binder that I have all my cards in. Leader is always on top of the body gaurd. I start with the unit and go through the stack. It might not be ideal strategically, but as you learn your sheets, you can start mixing things up.
    At that point, I try to keep my sheets in the same order so they are easy to find if needed.

    I don't play tournaments and am unlikely to in the future, however I play a weekly 2k game that takes us a ridiculous 10 hours to play, which means we have to split it into 2 sessions and it doesn't even feel like we're spending lots of unnecessary time doing anything in particular. I haven't watched the video yet, (I'm about to), but it sure would be great to cut our time in half at least, so we can play more often.

    • @Vampyr98
      @Vampyr98 10 месяцев назад +3

      Some ideas
      - if you are playing with your buddies, have the host setup terrain ahead of time (you can adjust before you play)
      - use squad bases so you don't have to move individual models
      - use the dice your opponent rolled to wound your guys to make your saves
      - exchange lists the day before the game so you can read up on your opponent's army rules
      - print out a cheatsheet with your army rules (quicker than looking through index or book)

    • @Happykrumpingwargaming007

    • @juddery
      @juddery 10 месяцев назад +1

      So, after watching, my biggest take-aways from it for me personally, are, 1, memorise the frickin' data sheets and stratagems etc, (yeah I've been struggling with that and always end up spending time flipping through, trying to find the sheet that I need each time), 2, have an overall game plan and 3, plan my next turn during my opponents turn. I've definitely got some work to do there, but if I can manage those, I'll come back for some more things to try.

    The one thing you mentioned in here that is absolutely unheard of to me, and would never in 100 years fly locally, is rolling someone else's saves- if I'm understanding that bit correctly. I don't know if there's anything you could do that would more quickly make people pissy with you here than rolling *their* dice, unless they explicitly told you that you could and that it was fine. So I, ah. Yeah I don't think I'll follow that advice. *That* is going to get you labeled as 'That Guy', not stopping someone to roll your own dice for your armor saves each time you need to take them. Again, at least it will around here.

    The arguments about not using one because it can be weaponized pretty nonsensical, it’s blatantly obvious when someone attempts to do this and can be stopped by a simple conversation
    Agree with the tips about always be thinking about your next move, piles of dice, memorize or print out your rules, and most importantly of all play by intention
    People can easily adapt to a slightly higher standard and it will result in faster and much higher quality games

    I lost a RT tournament game to a tau player by 8 points because he got to burn 2 hours and 30 minutes of our 3 hours. It didn't matter that i was going to table him by turn 4. He got 3 turns, i only got 2. Really disrespectful to eat time like that on purpose.

    When planning your turn during your opponent's turn, do you measure movemet, threat ranges etc while your opponent is doing their attacks? Or do you make a plan and then make quick measurements and some small adjustments during your turn as needed?

      i dont expect my opponent to memorize every single movement profile or special ability in my army. If i have a unit that has the ability to get to where they are asking about, and it has the ability, i will tell them when they ask

    To speed up FNP rolls just roll as if it were an armour save then reroll successes until you run out of damage.
    Say I take 5 D2 wounds on my 1w Death korps of krieg with death korps marshal I just roll 5 dice and reroll any 5's or 6's
