I (like many others) have a perfect 9 inch measuring stick at all times, it's just that sometimes my opponent doesn't like when I bust it out. Not sure if it's jealousy or if they think I'm cheating or what, but it never goes well
Best way to do it is to practice. Have a cheat sheet with your stratagems written down with what page they are on memorize your units and tactics to make movement faster. Best way though is to use one for your turn. Go play a fun game but tell them you are practicing for a tournament and that you will be using a time clock. They don't need to use it just you for the practice.
I definitely need to get better at playing faster. It's mainly decision making that is really difficult for me. Also have to love that you left in the measuring stick-part. Was great to see you crack up a bit there XD
I know it's off-topic, so firstly, I really appreciate your input. As a casual who plays around competitive people, this will help me be less annoying. Secondly, my real point, as a huge fan and sharer of your videos, I love the new, more professional look. The visual changes are even more pleasant, and it really helps me engage with the video on the first watch. Just seeing your hands makes the communication work better. Not sure if this is just a me thing. Anyway, thanks a lot for sharing your expertise, and I hope you keep having a blast filming these videos.
Great video! It really has me thinking, though I've only played casually at this point. I'd still like to play more games, and I feel like mine are usually 2-3 times longer than they need to be. For reference I tend to play 500 or 1000pts most of the time and getting the game done in under 90 minutes or 2 hours on the longer side would be awesome. Keep up the good work!
The first local tournament I went to, I learned very quickly that I had to speed the heck up. I lost my first two games by running out of time. In my third I just went for stuff that worked before and didn't second guess everything. I managed to win, but more importantly I realized this game is better when you don't get analysis paralysis and just roll with whatever happens.
Thank you for the tips. I will definitely try to use some of these going forward. I did laugh at the small joke regarding knowing weapon profiles. That is something I need to improve for sure.
Thanks. Awesome video. As a new player, lots to think about here in making up a check list for my army. Maybe you could cover your recommendations for making a pre-game cheat sheet in a future video?
Good video. I need to work on my dice. I play Orks only. What gets me, is getting up the 50 dice. Then rolling, counting the good, the bad. Then the wounds. Etc
You did my friend. I was with a group of people and they all thought I was actually cool after that. Little do they know... sad that I wasn't able to play at the LVO while I was literally in Vegas. Next time stop me and we'll chat for a while!
Have a buddy that played horde orks in 5th edition, when advancing was in the shootings phase, and he would measure each individual ork during the movement phase and would do the same thing for the shooting phase, when he told me he intended to advance them when it came up. Why I started playing elite lists that just focused on shooting.
Me and my friend have recently started playing 40k (Orkz v Tau) and to do a small 50 or 100 PL game it takes 8 hours (2 hours set up and 6 hours playing) a lot of these tips are gonna seriously help cut that number in half.
When using a chess clock and an opponent challenges you on a rule during your turn, whose time does that become while you are digging it out to provide for them either from your codex or the cards that can be purchased for your army?
It's on uou, but if someone is clearly abusing it, you could probably just hand them the book and tell them to look it up. Never had that happen to me but I have heard about it in one other video. Calling a judge works too
The person who doesn't know the rule and needs to look it up should have the time. If your opponent is constantly challenging you on rules you know are correct, call a judge.
"never met an opponent who is a stickler for being base to base..." me and my opponent looking at my genestealers and majority of my opponents saying "make em base to base if u can, if u cant, then they cant"
Pretty much have your whole game pre planned so you know where you want certain units to be turn 5 and if the worst happens and somehow that unit gets destroyed do I have a back up plan to still be where I want turn 5.
Great content, videos coming along and looking better and better. If you want criticism it's a little echo-ey maybe put some art up on the walls or something (mic closer). Also the drink in the foreground. Everything else is looking good. Really appreciate your explanations and terminology simple enough for even a marine to understand
My buddies and I only get to play once every couple of months so our games take frick'n forever. fastest 2000 point game was one afternoon, including setup up time and lunch break was 6 hours.
Thank you for the great video :) I still have those 18 inch-sticks from a old 40k Starter set, I think it was Black Reach :D also Datacards and the new secondary cards are great to look cp-cost up fast and have you Stratagems in a specific order (all fire-warrior-shooting stratagems in one block in my case)
analysis paralysis and not knowing stratagems is my biggest slow point. But it is with my 2ndary or tertiary armies. I know my Eldar by the back of my hand, which is about to change!!!
audio is kinda rough. if you find a plastic bin and put foam on the inside of every side of the bin it should increase the quality a fair amount while being cheap
Some really great insights. Thank you for all the info. You mentioned focusing on 5 CP options. What have this been for you with TS? Also, how might a business reach out to you directly? Thanks.
Generally the +1 to wound, firing more bolter shots, damage reduction, some of the MW or extra casts. 5 wasn't an exact number but it gets the point across! Normally people have just emailed me, if you go to my channel and then "about" there's an option to see my email address
I've basically never seen anyone "put the clock" on someone who was just rolling saves. But if I thought my opponent was purposely being slow on rolls or rules checking, is put the time on them. Or if they did it to me. It's usually pretty low stress. As for combat, yeah it would swap people players as they go through combat activations.
great video. im new to 40k and i noticed looking at weapon profiles is my biggest time waster. im sure after i play a bunch of games i will learn them but sometimes its hard to get games in throughout the work week. Any tips on remembering my profiles outside of game repetition?
I'd say look for patterns. Depends on your army but a lot of weapons are the same between factions. Heavy bolters or plasma are the same for everyone. But you can also quiz yourself. I like printing off datasheets myself
@@danielbrewster8642 unfortunately the imperial knight army I built gives each knight a different weapon, but you're right I think quizzing myself to learn each different knight in one week, I'll have the army figured out in just over a month! That's not too bad at all
You could make a cheat sheet depending on what your most-used weapons are. If all the most important information is available on a flash card rather than your printed army list, it could save you a lot of time
@@danielbrewster8642 not a media editor, so my advice may be worthless. I imagine you are at the point where your gear is fine and it is just a matter of editing skills, or technical knowledge of the tools holding it back from being perfect. In this video in specific, the biggest audio problem (imo) is the high frequency fuzz, but I imagine just cutting part of the top end frequencies in your sound software will do a lot to help this.
How to play faster: Step 1: stop using battlescribe as a codex or a statts refference sheet. But i doubt many people will notice that using battlescribe to look things up on your list slows down the game to a crawl.
Fair enough. :) wish every round could be played all the way though. I've had tournaments without chess clocks where I was rushing through turn 2 because my opponent spent nearly 45 minutes on each of their turns. That's not too fun for me only getting two turns while my opponent gets 3!
@@danielbrewster8642 Yea in competitive setting there should be a time limit mainly because there are so many games that need to be played and if you know your army well enough to compete you shouldnt be taking 15-20 minutes per phase
