    Great review and thanks for sharing! In the market for a Pentax 67 to L mount and it doesn't look like they make they one, eh too bad, I guess Kipon it is... Love the video footage, super cinematic. Although I could've done w less/no test charts and more actual footage (as I find test charts utterly useless), excellent review overall.

    I just bought the Kipon P67 to L Mount - it's currently reduced to 500 US dollars, along with the Pentax/Mamiya 645 versions... and with shipping and UK import duties added it costs about £500 delivered to UK in Sterling. As you say, an L Mount version of your focal reducer would be great for that locking mount, as otherwise it makes no sense to have to convert from EF to L Mount - especially if you want to attach an anamorphic adapter to the front.

    Well, the guy that founded XPimage was a Kipon's manager that stealed the project. I tried all the version and the Kipon x0.8 are 10 times better. I have the 0.8x version of the M645-GFX and C645-GFX (great AF with all the Contax 645 lenses), they are great on my Fuji GFX 100II, I also bought the new EF-GFX (improved the AF, now is faster)

    I want to get one of these for my S1H but its just way too expensive. Hopefully another brand like Viltrox make one of these for about half the price

    I think both XPimage and Kipon are owned by the same company. XPImage stores in China sell Kipon products, and vice versa.

    What’s the difference to focal length using a speed booster vs straight adapter?

  • @MrFreezeMovie
    @MrFreezeMovie Месяц назад

    It looks like the XP image is ever so slightly wider than the Kipon. Do you believe it's because the difference in cameras?
    I just ordered the XP Image because of their optiom to convert the mount to PL with the focal reducer without an adapter.

    I have a question when it comes to crop factor and focal Reducer. I actually have the 80mm 1.9 kipon to sony adapter on my A7SIII. Did you out the FX3 in crop mode before focal reducer or is that how much Image im loosing shooting with just an Adapter at full frame vs Focal Reducer?

    • @leemjdaley
      @leemjdaley  4 месяца назад

      No crop mode on the fx3 I don't even enable the image stabiliser because that so crops in. With the focal reducer the 80mm has the field of 57mm so you are loosing 23mm when you use just a normal adapter

    Are you sure the labels are correct in the comparison charts? It might be that I’m watching on a phone, but one would show purple fringing in the individual shot, but then when our side by side it would be the other way around?
    Interesting video nevertheless, didn’t know an alternative existed.
    Wish someone would figure out an adapter for Mamiya G (6) rangefinder lenses.

      @@raylavers4216i screenshotted a ton and also found this- I do feel the xpimage is a bit sharper (or with them being switched which is definitely happening here- whichever was shot on the bluer image is a sharper adapter. Which chart was shot with a bit more contrast and blue? Kipon or xpimage? Whichever was the bluer image is the adapter Ill be buying so now am very curious lol

  • @raylavers4216
    @raylavers4216 5 месяцев назад

    Interesting, Thank you! the Xp is slightly bluer purple and has a touch more contrast when compared to the Kipon. Same lighting and grading between both?

    • @leemjdaley
      @leemjdaley  5 месяцев назад

      Two different cameras to be honest so it won't be identical. Lumix 55 and FX3 and then phantom Luts. For what it's worth In practical real work no I showed actually footage from both one could tell the difference.

  • @evanburns9182
    @evanburns9182 5 месяцев назад +2

    Did you do any tests with the 80mm f1.9? Would be very curious how the two boosters compare at that f-stop because the Kipon performs quite poorly when opened up beyond f2.8.

    • @leemjdaley
      @leemjdaley  5 месяцев назад +1

      No I don't have the 1.9 but given how close the XPIMAGE is to the KIPON in between it performs similarly

    • @neurojitsu

      The Gafpa Forum has a great post on the use of their Aviascope 1.5x anamorphic adapter, that goes deep into selection of lenses as anamorphic taking lenses and there's lots of general insight into optics and different makes and their features. Lots of content on medium format. Gafpa are appointed service agents for Kinefinity cameras, and are dealers for their cameras, Dulens lenses and Aviascope. They seem to have some deep technical/product knowledge. I think I read there that the Mamiyas effectively have a built in diffusion filter in their optics design (something I've not read anywhere else) when used below F4, so likely the f1.9 will be soft and lower contrast wide open. MediaDivision video on these lenses uses an 80mm f1.9 on a Kipon focal reducer so you can see the difference stopping down makes.

    The kipon 645 to l mount is around $500 rn, but the xpimage version is only like $50 less at $450.
    I remember the kipon being $800 so this maybes sense why you said half the price, but they’re about the same price rn. Kipon is proven in a way that xpimage isn’t

    • @leemjdaley
      @leemjdaley  3 месяца назад

      The standard version of the Kipon is about the same price but the pro Locking version is still around £899, even on the website www.kipon-global.com/product-page/focal-reducer-lock-style-version-for-mamiya-645-lens-on-sony-e-mount-camera
