Once I heard about the a6700, I knew it was going to be a special camera, and it is. Anyone using it will realize they don't need a FF camera body, many FF lenses and a lot of money. The lenses for aps-c from Sigma, Tamron, Viltrox and many others are much cheaper, price wise, than FF lenses. And the aps-c body has the benefit of using FF lens to great effect. It's all there. Thanks for making a very clear presentation of the two formats. This is highly recommended for those just getting into photography. BTW, I had fun with medium format cameras decades ago. Lots of fun but nowhere as much fun as 35mm film cameras.
Wish this guy was my teacher for every class I ever took! You explained everything really well and I feel like I've learnt more from watching your video than I did from watching years of RUclips!
Sir, this is by far one of the best explanations of the differences between the main formats (you missed the mft, but all your general considerations are valid for it as well). Anyway, I have watched lots of videos on the matter and yours is one of the most informative, an excellent tutorial indeed ! Thanks and stay healthy !
Very educational. Your style of information is appreciated, you break it down to the basic. Even for us that been using these camera for some time needs a refresh course.
i really appreciate all the info you put in this video. It's better than any other camera explanation video I've seen- straight to the point with facts, visual differences and comparisons, and 0 extra wording to fill the time slot. Thanks so much for your expertise!
Man i have watched so many explanation and yours is SO CLEAR!!! Thank you for this video. its amazing. You sir, earned a subscriber. Imma watch more of you now. thanks man!!
thank you, I actually learnt new stuff from this even though I already assumed I understood everything, you have a real directness and matter-of-factness when it comes to explaining and a clear way of speaking, great job!
Fantastic video bru ! Super easy to understand explanations. I actually bought the FX30 as a B cam to my FX3 for a few of those reasons, the focal lengths and having the benifits of both worlds. Shot a metal festival a few weeks back and when editing the video I had no idea which shot was from which camera. Also the price of APSC glass is something that makes me happy, I bought as set of Cineprimes that are T1.05 for the price of my Sigma 24-70 F2.8 full frame lens!
Great video, Great explanations, Recently went from APS-C (Canon 90D 32mp) to Full frame R6MK2. 26mp.. Strengths and weakness in both formats, gained, better separation & low light performance. Lost range and resolution to be able to crop in as much. Thanks for putting this great explanation together. Best I have seen. Thank You...
I have been a professional photographer for 15 years, I have watched all kinds of videos on photography and this one is the best explanation I’ve seen, and it was a confirmation on keeping my a6400 for more time. Thanks for the video

That is the best explanation video I have ever saw! People say FF cameras are better all the time! But they don't account for an actual pixel size on a sensor. Another thing is - you have to use a brighter lens on APS-C, than your kit lens and everything will be fine! 😉
Very well explained. I do feel like we ask for a lot of stuff in these cameras that we don't need or don't want to actually do the work to make the cameras look and work the way they need. I've watched movies with grain in the shadows, we also want the best Autofocus and we want excellent ibis but, most of the big expensive cameras don't have ibis and constant auto focus or auto focus at all . I feel we are chasing perfection when the best movies and photos were made with imperfections on purpose because it gives character to the images. This allows them to stand out.
I’ve never been on this channel, but man oh man this was hilarious! I got what I came for, excellent explanation with actual facts, and stayed for the examples that just kept making me laugh out loud. 😂 thanks for making this video. Now I am going to find me a basketball team so I have a reason to buy a bus!
This video just put all my decisions to rest. I was gonna hop in the full frame boat but I’ll start and stick with apsc. More for the money and very similar quality, plus there’s a ton of people making awesome content with apsc. Great video and explanation
great info! hope people will not include aperture into the mix when doing equivalency stuffs. it's literally just cropping in,, aperture size stays the same
Don’t mind me…. just appreciating this immensely. Philosophically, I agree. Technically, it’s also very helpful. I’m looking for a B Cam. A Cam is full frame and I’m doing pros and cons. But B Cam is basically going to spend its entire life in the studio. So you’re right APSC is gonna be fine because I’ll always have controlled lighting. Don’t need every tool to work for every single job.
I really enjoyed every second of this video. You really hit a couple of nails wich are currently a subject of debate within the photography community. Right now i'm using a Sony A6700 and i can clearly notice some differences with my older generation A6000 camera. It's clear that the gap between a 26mp APS-C and a 33mp Full Frame are getting smaller. And now with the super resolution switch within Adobe Lightroom you can get even more stunning results. Of course i also would like to have a Full Frame camera in the future. But my Sony A6700 is solid ground for now.
So at the end Full Frame has more background blur and better low light performance compared to APS-C, however with some tricks you can emulate the look of FF on an APS-C camera. I know cause I have used an APS-C camera and now I own a FF camera and it's just easier to work with. Not saying the quality of the images are 10 times better as I was the one using the APS-C camera as well. :) But FF has maybe a bit more advantages.
In the "old" days we had 1/2 of 35mm ... The "cheap" 35mm shooting only half the frame ... There are plenty excellent old film cams like that ... And yeah great comparison! Thanks. All the APS-C bashers should watch your vid.
I'm gonna call you sir.. even thou you look young. Because you sir are smart and I know this because you just articulated the differences between apsc and full frame in such way that anyone and I mean anyone can understand.. to do this one needs to be smart and understand the issue.. You have earned my subscription and look forward to seen more of your videos.. thank you sir.
This was really informative. I was really leaning to getting the A7Cii for the full frame look but apsc sounds sufficient enough for my needs. I would like to learn about 1” sensors since they are significantly smaller compared to apsc. Especially with the pocket 3 being a hit.
1" sensors are much smaller than aps-c sensors BUT a 1" sensor is much bigger than what's found in cellphones and action cameras. So the performance from the pocket 3 is like the middle ground between what a phone can do but not as far as what full cameras can do
It's so nice to see a realistic perspective on this. For the longest time I've found APS-C the sweet spot between MFT and full frame. Especially if you run a small crew or run and gun filmography. As an independent filmmaker or web content creator these should be the workhorse cameras. The smaller the sensor, they are not only more affordable but also generally smaller and lighter, even the lenses and additional support equipment. Recently some APS-C cameras have crammed so much in that they are as large as FF cameras. At the other end they keep trying to shrink the form factor of FF that size and weight is becoming less of a trade off for the body. However in doing so the sizes are getting clunky and or overheat. However your lenses for APS-C cameras are still more affordable. In a few more years I think 1" sensors will claim the sweet spot. Especially as we start seeing 1" interchangeable lens cameras. We are already some excellent imagery on the 1" fixed lens cameras. When you know what you're doing, you can even get good shallow depth of field from them. I think if you take something like the ZV-1 and put interchangeable lenses on it, it would be a hit. I thought that's what we would get with the ZV-E10 but they went APS-C instead.
That’s because there are no lenses designed for a 1” sensor with a removable mount. The camera industry isn’t really robust enough to support another platform at the moment, MFT is hanging on by a thread so I wouldn’t expect any 1” platforms anytime soon with removable lenses. I do think Sony has found that balance of size and power without overheating but I’ve used many other aps-c cameras that are literally just as big as a full frame camera so I definitely get your point!
i'm also worried about the distortion than a wider lens of an aps c can apply to the face when you are at the same distance for vlogging. I thought that maybe a 24mm on full frame would see more natural than using maybe a 13mm on aps c , but watching at 9:31 i can not see a difference. could you tell what focal lenght are you using for both cameras? Love the video btw
Hey Erwin, great video! What's your advice on APS-C lenses vs Full Frame lenses on a full frame camera? I'm considering the Sigma 18-50mm vs Sigma 28-70mm for my Sony A7C, taking price into account (full frame is nearly double). I'm a beginner RUclipsr looking for great quality video. Thanks!
Most videos fail completely to mention the sensor material, you touch on it - good, but that deserved 50% of your time not 30 seconds. good explanation for beginners, ( that's a complement)
This video really helped me with camera choice I was going to make. Thinking about the low light and grain in my footage or another issue but you have gave me reassurance that doesn't matter as much. Thank you
I loved your video, but you talk a little fast, and sometimes I had to rewind to understand what you were saying or try to grasp your explanation. Could you slow down just a little bit for future videos. Just a suggestion if not keep doing your thing. Thank you anyway.
Faster lenses won’t get you a full frame look. If you shoot at 30mm f2.8 on a full frame and 20mm f1.4 on an apsc camera, it will have a similar field of view but it will still have the look of a 20mm instead of a 30mm
I don't know why I keep watching breakdowns like this but this is one of the better ones out there.
Haha same here 😂 But yes, this is one of the best overviews from someone who clearly understands what they're talking about.
Wow! I learned more in this video than all these years of watching RUclips.

i have the a6400 and its already a very powerful camera with the things it can do! i love it.
What an expert level video explaining (and showing) the difference between the formats
I literally never put likes on youtube, but you well deserved it. Analogies you make are spot on, and that's exactly what people are in need.
Wish this guy was my teacher for every class I ever took! You explained everything really well and I feel like I've learnt more from watching your video than I did from watching years of RUclips!
I almost know this subject from start to end and you still managed to teach me something new. Awesome video! Keep up the great stuff 👌 !

Kudos! Loved the ‘bus’ for the basketball team analogy!
This is the video that has answered it all, with all the caveats included. Thanks a lot man, keep it up!
Your explanations are the best!!❤
Awesome content Erwin! Everything covered that is of interest, perfectly explained and on top of it I love your accent :D

great video. I really like how you explained things. Even though I already knew most of the information, it was refreshing the way you put it.
Bro, this is the best video I saw about the subject, very honest and educational! Congrats
This might be the most informative breakdown of FF vs APS-C I've ever seen. I also didn't know that trivia about 35mm film and cinema cameras :)
This was a GREAT explanation that linked so much relative information together in one place.

Bro is bigger pixels mean more sharpen ?????

What would you choose between a6700 and a7c1 ?
Depends on what I’m doing. If I need photos and video, I’d go with the a6700. If it’s just photos I’d go with the a7c
