Can we all just take it in that this is literally history. Proms 53 will always be the best proms ever and this just proves that even though jazz is not as popular it is sure as hell still alive. :)
I was there and it was the greatest jazz concert i had ever seen, and I'm 81 & have seen Miles, Brubeck, Oscar, the Duke, Erroll, McCoy, The Trane, et al ....
@@boadiccea1 I'm not that much into jazz but I feel like this concert transcends genre because of how good it is. I've listened to it in loop for years now and keep coming back to it often and I've gotten more and more into jazz partly because of it. I wish I had the chance to be there like you did!
You can imagine musicians being a bit naughty, getting them in a line up would be a dead givaway because one look at Leo would tell you who did whatever it was
I just noticed after listening for the hundredth time that the drummer immediately picked up on Leo P's Mission Impossible riff and nailed every single beat. Small touch and I fkn love it.
old guy on trombone absolutely killed it, leo perfect as usual, and christian sounding smooooth Edit: watching this 6 months later, I’m realising how good the trombone guy is holy moly
Leo just murdered his reed with that solo, I was like “hmm this solo of his is actually pretty calm, maybe I can try doing it on my bari sa- nevermind”
I LOVE his style... Lately, his playing with ZOOZ is absolutely unbelievable. He’s really improved. His solo here was laid back, I think he wanted to stay in the tighter confines of trad swing.
I love your playing in the big band setting ! Your inspiring entertaining and very talented from one Bari player to another ! Thanks for that performance hope to see more ?!!!
Brilliant, Remember catching this when first broadcast. This is a very refreshing eccentricity and really needed at this time in this Art form. Jazz has been waiting a long time for a new kind of unique approach to help capture attention. We have had the wonderful Getz and Desmond of the Baritone =Geri Mulligan after of course the great Harry Carney then you've got your Pepper Adams types which every bopper recognises from alto to your Ronnie Cubers, Nick Brignolas to Gary Smulyans. Baritone has to be played and thought about a lot deeper in some ways to get things over to the every day listener to bridge the gap otherwise it can simply sound like a Bee taken off . For me Leo P doing his thing, is the best thing to come out of jazz in a VERY long time. Oh one last thing, this cat can really play,
I can’t speak for Mingus but I bet he would’ve been pleased with Leo’s interpretation over his work. Of course, he would’ve liked to hear Eric Dolphy’s interpretation but we just don’t have that option, do we? I’m a fan of Leo and what he’s doing. He has good roots and I’m excited to see where he takes his abilities.
Leo’s first half of his solo was too calm and he didn’t use enough chaotic energy, so for the second half he had to throw in even more of his signature playing techniques than normal
That old guy on the bone absolutely smashed it
Dude was an absolute monster
pause
U mean trombone
Holy shit he's amazing
Bart Van Lier

I know I’ve been listening to the whole thing for a year now ! Leo P and everyone like Shabaka, Bart, Christian. and the singer are insane !

I bet Leo has never lost a game of “spot the protagonist”

@Michael Morris never watched star wars?

He does gigs at Police RoadBlocks for extra cash ~

That’s what great drummers do!
Bart has grace notes on his grace notes, Christian just shakes his head, Jon Faddis admits he's out ranged - the man's a beast!
Leo P is clickbait to get people to see how amazing Bart Van Lier is
Trombone is not usually a lead instrument ... but Bert turns it into one !
i don’t agree to much. Leo P and Bart van Lier were Insane though!
Never heard of Bart but he can BLOW!

Great concert. Great effort. Advanced Mingus with updated arrangements. So impressed. Leo P - props. yes, post the whole event.
The "whole event" is included in a 2 hour long documentary on Mingus
Woah the dude on bone and drummer killed it. Leo P's crazy as usual
Came for Leo p, stayed for van lier
79 years old - last performance before retiring. Awesome guy.
Guy Crosswell 67 years old *

the drummer absolutely killed his solo
i played the trombone for 5 years of my life. i want to do it again now ^^
Leo is what you get after playing in NYC subways for years, a BEAST !!!
I wish this whole concert was available on vinyl. Good quality vinyl.
This
I HEARD THAT
Why isn't this concert out on vinyl?????
Realest thing I’ve ever heard
Is nobody going to talk about the drummer?
he´s so damn good and my dad ^^
I will, he kicks ass.
He's lame and hates his job.
He has flow. The solo followed the musical narrative perfectly.
Christopher Lacroix you’re lame
The three soloists were great. The band behind them sounds damn good.
this is a thing of beauty and sophistication.
Wow !! What a high pitch party of base sound instruments !!
That man put the LIFE into that trombone 💪
The whole band was amazing.
Damn, that was sweet. Just brilliant.
Anybody knows any other songs with a crazy power drop like this 4:46 ? That's freakin epic, powerful asf i love it
I’m happy I’m not the only person who thought this specific part was absolutely amazing
Moanin by Charles mingus
These three make it look soo easy!
4:57 when u run out of ideas for a solo
Pretty much what I got from that lol
Robby Gamer this is Mingus...use your common sense...was probably “written” in.
Noo... that’s something Leo P does, but okay.
When all else fails.....SQUEALLLLLL!!!!!
@David Gray bro at least Leo doesn’t Leo try’s to play a lick from habanero fails then tries riding the scales fail then resorts to squealing
The drummer was smooth as silk. Sweet.
Leo P - best!!!! Super sax!
When Van Lier does that high note wailing thing he is just basically turning into Leo P with a trombone. Very good solos by both though.
That was mind-blowing!
OMG Leo used to perform at NY 42nd street subway station and now Albert Hall!
whom let the strings into the jazz club
who*
*whom’st’ve’nt’nt
Stefan Grappelli
Same guy who lookd at Leo with his purple ass hair and decided to mach solo players outfits to his hair.
Weird people
That old man is fire
The gentleman on the trombone is GOALS!!!!!!
The old guy and Leo bloody awesome
Stan Lee plays trombone? 😂
Seriously though... That dude was bad-ass!
No it's Larry king
😂
is not Stan Lee clearly is Hugh Hefner... a master of the trombone art.
I'm telling middle school jazz kids about these badasses Bart van Lier (trombone) and Leo P of Too Many Zoos on Baritone Sax.
All incredible musicians
yes yes...man on the trombone, been around long time, smooth and all the rest!!
c'est tellement beau. Je manque de mots.
I tell myself, Ahhhhh! I don't want to watch this video. Then I click on it, head gets to movin' and I never regret it!
2:40 backgrounds is the type of thing I would overplay on my bari sax just because I think it's really cool.
Loved this one!

Who said Bari sax players can't get into the upper register? Outstanding!
RAMPAGE: featuring Van Lier and Pellegrino, because they are both MONSTERS. DANG that's amazing stuff.
Amazing. This is the type of performance that will get you paying again on your way out. 👌
6:50 holy shit my whiplash o'meter is going bananas in this drummer's direction
My 11 year old son brought me here... he rocks
At first I thought Leo's sax was ornately engraved, but looking at it in HD reveals that it's just dirty
The video is only 720p...
Benjamin it is neither engraved nor is it dirty, it is just the result of high use and contact with spittle and fat, which causes this special patina
Which means that Saxophone is Priceless for Leo Pellegrino.
Well, you didn’t have to look at the video to know, you can hear that he plays one hell of a dirty sax
Yeah it's just patina from where the lacquer wore off.
I had no idea Mr. Frederickson was such an accomplished trombonist!
Fantastic!!!!!
Be sweet to see some homies Rollin down the block blaring some classical jazz music in the whips sound system!!!
Leo P is a god of Bariton sax, ne is the best Bariton Player of the world, no joke❤️👍🙂
