A Limited Watercolour Palette: Two Greys, Two Browns And A Red...And A Sneaky Yellow!

In my last video I showed you the latest batch of watercolours by the amazing Roman Szmal, watercolour manufacturer extraordinaire from Poland. I thought it would be a good idea to choose a few colours from his offering and give them a whirl! So today - New Year's Day 2024 - I decided to make a sketch of one of my favourite views in my home. At the last minute, it became clear that my husband was going to occupy the end of the table to do his work, and after a brief negotiation we agreed he would make a rich addition to the sketch (he hates the result, and in fairness he is considerably more handsome than in my rendition)!
But I achieved my aim, which was to play with a few greys and the lovely new browns in the new colours, and see how they preformed. The verdict? I love the Velvet Black. I think it is divine, and most of the sketch is done in it. The opaque grey, Graphite, is something I think is going to be very useful, but I have to take it slowly...I haven't used black (or a cold grey) watercolour in ten years so I have to be gentle with myself!
