Do you have suggestions for Cenotes near Chichén Itzá? We have a rental car and also two daughters 10 & 11 so we want something fun but not super crowded. Thanks
After weeks of research, THIS was the singular most helpful piece of content about cenotes. Loved your criteria--we aren't divers so some of these cenotes didn't factor in for us, but really appreciated the tourism level, water clarity, distance, and lifejacket analysis. Thank you!
Have y'all tried free diving? We weren't water people until we started traveling near the ocean. Just getting comfortable in the water showed I was a lot more capable than I thought. Now I can easily hold my breath and dive 15 feet or so and swim around for a bit before coming back up. I still have a lot to learn but after watching this I feel we may have to take a course before our visit in March. The views are so stunning!
This is a fantastic list. I love how detailed you are on each one. We are meandering down through Yucatan in March and will definitely be hitting many, if not all, of these. I added several to my list of things to do but I'm saving this video to watch again when we are there because it's so good. Thank you for posting. I will give you a shoutout when our cenote video comes out.

We went to Nicte-Ha yesterday and FYI, they do mandate life jackets now because someone got hurt. Also, the online info says it would be about $100 pesos per person, but to get in it was $300 pesos per person - They must have changed a lot since this vid was posted. Also, I am a certified scuba diver and when I showed my certification they said it didn't matter and I would still have to wear a life jacket. The woman at the ticket counter said that you can only not wear a life jacket if you come with a scuba school from Tulum.
This film is stunning and it's very informative too . i loved all the cenotes, only one scares me a little 😬😅😅 but you said ... that's what makes it fun 🙌
I was just thinking "I'm so glad I saw this before my trip to Yucatan". We are spending a heap of time in Playa del Carmen to learn kiteboarding. Now we might have to learn free-diving too.
Crocodile’s aren’t. But that’s ok, croc’s are only found in saltwater. The animals you’ll find here are alligators, which are generally afraid of humans and will hide from them unless they feel threatened
Did Casa cenote after watching these videos. We paid for the guided tour and kinda glad we did. The young guy, Freddy, helped tour us and he showed us where we could dive through. I am a relatively amateur snorkeler and enjoyed it so much. It's a great place to train for scuba clearly but you do not need scuba to see and do all the fun stuff here. I loved the challenge and the longer we were there the more confident I became. We did a few dives through caverns and I felt a real sense of accomplishment each time I made it through safely. The fish and the wildlife were fun to see. We didn't get to see the crocodile but the people before us said they did. Thanks for your video. I'm so glad we went to Casa and not Dos Ojos. We did Corazon Paraiso also buy didn't really love the aggressive fish biting us. We saw a small croc there.
So informative, cut through the junk and give us the good good here we LOVED IT. We just subbed 😉 We are here for a month in Tulum, do you still live nearby?
Great information. I'm considering shooting a commercial for a travel client. I need the cenote to be deep, good natural light and a sandy or rocky bottom for contrast. Which one would you recommend? Thx
Did you drive when you visited the cenotes? which cenotes you mentioned, required free dive license? I free dive but I dont have a license. Thanks! -kor
I rented a car for some, or i got a taxi. For Oxman cenote which requires a freedive license if you want no lifejackets, then you have to show some proof that you can freedive. DO what you want with that info ;)
Hey Mark. We are not free-divers yet. As avid land dwellers (BASE Jumpers / hikers) we hadn't really try it until we spend a month in Baja. In that time I learned I could do a lot more than I thought and now can easily dive down 15 feet and swim around a bit. Do you think we should practice more before taking a course or will they teach us everything and be able to get us ready to be certified in only a few days? We are healthy and very active but just getting comfortable in water.
Cozumel you can't fly it many places because of the proximity to the airport. Cancun, playa, tulum it's all good. For cenotes you typically have to pay an extra fee to fly your drone.
