I also hate dual forms, for two reasons. 1) the shapes can be weird. You have to practice to know how much gel to put in them to get the right apex, and then sometimes they are way too c-curvy or curved downward at the tip. 2) Having the smooth surface means nothing if you have to file the cuticle or sides because of spillover. In general I find myself still having to do a lot of work after using a dual form, so I just opt to sculpt the nail myself.
At first I thought “Why is she putting dehydrator on before buffing?” But when you explained you had lotion on your hands because you have dry skin, like me, it made perfect sense, and was something I had never even THOUGHT about. So, now I might be able to have a few nail files last a bit longer. Thank you!
I use duel forms all the time but I got away from using polygel (which is the brand name of a hybrid gel not the actual gel itself) or hybrid gel. I use hard gel which lasts me weeks. For the underside of the nails, I use an e-file and get that nice smooth curve you'd get if you used a regular form. Also, the harder you push the duel forms down on your nail, the more product you push out and waste which means less apex. Took me a lot of broken nails to figure out that it wasn't the form that was the issue but how I was using them.
For this particular hack you’re using too much product you gotta use way less and push slowly so it doesn’t seep out the sides and so it isn’t so thick around the cuticle

Can you tell me how in the world you keep the form from lifting up when you are cleaning around the cuticles to get the excess polygel off? I always get air bubbles! I have to clips to use, but can't clean the excess gel with the clip on there!

That stiletto tips I couldn't get them to fit my nail neither. 😵 I always need to buy the 12 sizes. 💅✌️ I like the way they turned out but like you said you needed to build up the nail so they wouldn't break. They looked amazing once you done your thingy thing! 😁❤️
Im buying a kit that comes with just the gel, the forms , a gel solition (whatever that is) & a file. So do I need a dehydrator & a uv base coat & a uv lamp & Im all set?
Yaass!! Thank you!! I've watched so many videos that claim dual forms are "beginner friendly". Beginner friendly my foot! I tried them and just couldn't get the hang of it. I ended up using paper forms and sculpting my nails. I am convinced that people who use dual forms are either a) doing a crap ton of editing to make it look easy or b) (the most likely scenario) they sold their soul to Neeailzbub the Nail Devil himself cuz they just can't be that easy. (because people can be super sensitive on the interwebs, OBVIOUSLY I'm joking. OFC, I don't really think they sold their soul...) (yes I do)
🤣 I think it's possible to get the hang of them, BUT you're not going to have a *strong* nail in my opinion. I'd just much rather build it how I like and file the surface to smooth it out!
Wow I’m having the exact opposite problem! I can create great nails with dual forms but I can’t sculpt for shit! I’m trying to learn but getting it right and filing is really hard for me :(
I swear I was having the same problem! It’s because of the upward dent they have on the edges where the apex is. It doesn’t keep enough gel where my finger ends. It probably has a lot to do with the shape of the natural nail but I made an absolute mess trying them and just ended up having to go over them again on all the edges or they would have broken right away. I’m so glad I’m not the only one!!!
Okay so I am no expert but I did watch several tutorials and picked up a few little trick that help my dual form process. These last and usually help me. I also learned a few things from trial and error. 1. For me I noticed if I use any base coat that isn't modelones, they pop off quickly. I don't know why but I have tried several different brands and Modelones works the best. 2. Buff your nails before the base coat. 3. When putting dual forms on I notice it works best if you put them on starting at the base of you nail. Go at it with a 45 degree angle and gently place the rest of the nail down. This helps avoid the underneath getting too messed up. 4, Flash cure them so they don't move while your placing the rest of your nails. 5. If your poly gel is too opaque, which usually is the case with whites, mix in some clear. If the UV light can't go through, it won't cure. 6. I use a base coat to move your gel around. It won't stick and helps smooth things out. 7. Use the brush to sculpt a rounded nail on the inside of the dual form. 8.Use less polygel at the base. When you press it, the poly gel should move toward your cuticle filling it in. I hope this was at least a little bit of help with using dual forms!
They certainly are beginner friendly . Mine come out PERFECT every single time since the first time I used them I have zero problems with them. I couldn't get them wrong even if I wanted to it's that easy 🤦♀️
Have you tried putting it in the dual form first the pink level it out and flatten it then add the glitter at the top and flattern that. Then add to nail that way u can add the correct amount and thickness just a thought xx
I have done acrylics on my nails for more than 35 years, and just wanted to know if the polygel nails have to be removed each time to rebate, or can they just be filled in at the base, like acrylics??
My nails are shaped weird so i can't really use sculpting forms or tips. Dual forms are my best option but they're always such a mess. This is a great idea! Thank you.
I know you posted this a while ago now, but thank you! Mine are oddly shaped, too and I was wondering if that was the source of a lot of the probs I'm having! I've tried tips, dual forms, and sculpting forms, lol.

I look forward to watching more of your videos. Also I've never seen the dual forms used like that so thank you for trying that hack for us :)
I love your videos sooooo much. Ive learned so much too. The time you take to explain the how but also the WHY is awesome! You definitely got a skill in teaching. I used to do my nails all the time with just my natural nails yet people thought they were gel or acrylics esp with my intricate nail art designs that I'd make up and then I had 4 beautiful baby girls in 2.5 years. Twins and Irish twins sooo my nails took a GIANT step back because nails and an assembly line of diapers, bottles and sippy cups just didn't work lol. However they are now 5,6,7&7. One of my twins is profoundly Deaf (Beautifully' Happy & Healthy too) however she is dependent on American sign language and lip reading. The type of art I used to paint could complicated some sign language particularly finger spelling. It was just self taught techniques or tricks ⁶passed down from my mom who learned to do acrylics on her own pre internet days and it definitely wasn't learned from her learning from nail tech or DIY videos I'm so much luckier now. I was also lucky she was able to bless me with some nails sets a few times in high school pre softball season which in turn stopped my horrific nail biting. So I know that if my mother could pick up acrylics and teach herself esp with 4 kids of her own around my age now ..... cough cough 35 in two weeks, than I can definitely learn how to do polygel and get back into something I really enjoyed doing. Over the last 6 months I slowly made sure to acquire all the little extra items that would help a beginner especially with my expectations of that first dual form turn out lol. You totally have given me confidence that if I make a mistake it's not the end of the world and almost always fixable ;). I appreciate you doing what you do, particularly in one video when you reminded people there's no need to be rude and that encouragement goes a Long way. I'm taking the leap and the time to myself tomorrow to do polygel and dual forms for the first time tomorrow. I'm going to also thank the other DIY and nail techs for their videos too, but I genuinely appreciate each video you've made. The suggestions, the ability to laugh at a mistake and then teach everyone how to fix it with such an array of methods. So grateful for your page. I only just now took back over my you tube and signed into my name so I could comment. Stay positive in the chaos of it all but I'm sure you will!
There is an apex, but you lose it when you press down really hard on the dualform. They're really nice and smooth, but I have the same problem with the gel coming out the sides, and leaving that gap on the sides. Drives me nuts!! But I'm horrible at sculpting lol.
Oh my gosh, I can't even remember now! I usually will put that in the description, but I see that I didn't do that this time. I know that it's just polygel, no polish... and I'm about 99% sure that it's one of the colors from the kit used in this video, because I'll often try a polygel before doing a video so that I know if it works well or not. This kit is linked in the description. I'm sorry I can't remember for 100% sure! 🥺💜
To save u time u maybe try just the 1 color on first then add your glitter one after pink colour is set as it took u longer to do it with the forms to but they still look lovely but I normally put the gel on the tip first the way I want it and no waist xx
I didn't get the clips either so my country butt used some chips clips. It worked. 😆🐱😆. I did it the tiktok way and it was so easy. My friend and I got tied of paying and tried do acrylics at home. It was horrible but the polygel isn't like that.
This is the thing, when I first started doing Polly gel nails that was exactly my problem is there would be a chunk missing on the main stress point. This is why I don't use dual forms because it's too much science to figure out exactly how much to put on the stress point to make sure they don't break. If you don't have enough it'll easily break. What I do is use nail tips, it's the easiest for me. It's definitely called the lazy way but for me it's the easiest. I take the tip I put Polly gel on it I shape it I stick it on my fingernail and I cure it. I love it that way when I'm done with them I take them all off and I do another set. I also have a newborn so I don't have time for the whole mess of dual forms because when I use dual forms I would literally have to layer on more polygel and it just creates a mess. It does burst out of all sides too much of a mess for me.
I love how everyone is telling you that you're doing it wrong when that was the whole point because it's a tik tok hack. You don't use forms like this, just for the hack.
I think the reason your having such a problem is because you sculpt the nail in the dual form 1st then lay in on nail. You dont put the gal on th nail then press on form. Put gel in dual form sculpt and press on nail and cure
I know dual forms can be pain the a** but filing and shaping is quite hard for me as a beginner and I struggle to have i good shape so dual forms give that and I only need to shape the tip.. they still require so much work and cleaning but yeah..
I wish I could sculpt but oh the filing! My biggest issue though is.... I don't understand how people are able to not stab themselves daily with nails like these... let alone do anything. I love the easy they look buuuut I can't do anything... any advice on that? 😆

Hey try applying the Polly gel to the inside of the dual forms and then apply it to your nail and cure. I find it easier and get a smoother application and result of the mail.
Have you tried the dual form hack where you put the paper form and then use the dual form so it's not gushing from the under side, but I still think for long nails like mine the structure prob wouldn't be strong the Apex🤷🏻♀️
The best way to use dual forms is to use very little product and to do so in layers. Polygel was made so the person using the product can take their time to achieve a professional look. Hence it is beginner friendly.

Great Video!!! And the color of your nails are such a pretty color. The ones on your dominant hand?
Can you tell me how in the world you keep the form from lifting up when you are cleaning around the cuticles to get the excess polygel off? I always get air bubbles! I have to clips to use, but can't clean the excess gel with the clip on there!
Thank u! I noticed that the 1 and size 0 had no difference in the stiletto forms when I got this kit the other day! I thought I was going crazy lol
Enjoy this video, definitely going to watch your others, look forward to seeing u posting more! Tons of love from a Canadian in the UK ❤🍁🇬🇧
I wanted to try this also... but did you use the uv light? I just wanted to see how it's done step by step
I am new to polygel and had some trouble with dual forms as well but not comfortable to sculpt yet. I usually do the FemiBeauty method.
Are u talking about FemiBeauty Lazy Girl method by chance?
@@Melissa_Lawrence Yes I am
That stiletto tips I couldn't get them to fit my nail neither. 😵 I always need to buy the 12 sizes. 💅✌️ I like the way they turned out but like you said you needed to build up the nail so they wouldn't break. They looked amazing once you done your thingy thing! 😁❤️
Have the clips makes huge difference
Im buying a kit that comes with just the gel, the forms , a gel solition (whatever that is) & a file. So do I need a dehydrator & a uv base coat & a uv lamp & Im all set?
I hate using poly gel but have you tried ombreing the gel in the form and then applying the form to the nail to cure?
Yaass!!
OFC, I don't really think they sold their soul...)
(yes I do)
🤣
I think it's possible to get the hang of them, BUT you're not going to have a *strong* nail in my opinion.
Happens to me I hate dual forms also 😒 loved your video this nails looked beautiful on both hands 🙌 xx
Thank you so much! 🥺💜
What dual forms are you using? Mines don’t stay on even with a clip
Hey girl, I like your personality 😂❤
Okay so this is my 1st time watching your channel, I think you are really nice and talented. My only complaint is that you complained the entire video LOL!!!
Thank you for showing how to fix it. You rock
Does alcohol work as a dehydrator? I bought a kit but it didn't have any dehydrator or base
Love this so much.... learning how to do my nails as we speak lol. This is super helpful
I’m finally getting the hang of those paper forms. Sure saves buying tips.
Did the dehydrater and primer and stuff come with the kit?
There is an apex, but you lose it when you press down really hard on the dualform. They're really nice and smooth, but I have the same problem with the gel coming out the sides, and leaving that gap on the sides. Drives me nuts!! But I'm horrible at sculpting lol.
What is the polygel on the right hand? I love it! Is that the color or is it polished?
Oh my gosh, I can't even remember now! I usually will put that in the description, but I see that I didn't do that this time.
I know that it's just polygel, no polish... and I'm about 99% sure that it's one of the colors from the kit used in this video, because I'll often try a polygel before doing a video so that I know if it works well or not.
This kit is linked in the description.
I'm sorry I can't remember for 100% sure! 🥺💜
I just played with this exact same kit last weekend. Just did some swatches to check out the polygel. It's ok but a little stiff for me.
I need to try it out with sculpting forms still (I like slightly firmer when sculpting). Either way, I think the colors are so pretty!
You can warm up polygel which will make less stiff, get a cup of hot water, not boiling hot, and leave for at least 5 minutes before using
i have polygel & paper forms I wanna try sculpting a set of short nails
Hello, the polygel or acrigel works better if you apply it directly to the form or dual mold so there is no excess material,... it works well
Right. 👍🏻
To save u time u maybe try just the 1 color on first then add your glitter one after pink colour is set as it took u longer to do it with the forms to but they still look lovely but I normally put the gel on the tip first the way I want it and no waist xx
I hate dual forms too!!! And don’t feel bad about the rambling I do the same thing 😂😂😂
I didn't get the clips either so my country butt used some chips clips. It worked. 😆🐱😆. I did it the tiktok way and it was so easy. My friend and I got tied of paying and tried do acrylics at home. It was horrible but the polygel isn't like that.
Its your video, ramble if you wanna girly! Just found you, love watching nail videos!! I'm obsessed 😍
I’m hoping I can get mine to last longer. Last summer I gave up but I’m hopeful!
It takes some trial and error, but you'll definitely figure it out!
Just an FYI you prep the nail first and then apply the dehydrator and primer before applying your base coat then product.
Sculpture does look better n when u get hang of the bead of gel to add on im glad u got to add ombre tip glitter more color I wanna try buy so bad
I love how real you are 😂 new subbed just for your voice over chat ❤ and I’ll stick to gel after seeing this too!
You did a great job actually!
Nail tips work beautifully! That's my favorite way to do it as well 💜
Found your channel on tobeglam Facebook page. I hate dual forms too and would rather sculpt too!! 👏🏼👏🏼
If you use a slip liquid they won't be lumpy at all. It makes it so much easier
I know dual forms can be pain the a** but filing and shaping is quite hard for me as a beginner and I struggle to have i good shape so dual forms give that and I only need to shape the tip.. they still require so much work and cleaning but yeah..
I would like to order a kit am in SA is there any store you would recommend please
I wish I could sculpt but oh the filing! My biggest issue though is....
I don't understand how people are able to not stab themselves daily with nails like these... let alone do anything. I love the easy they look buuuut I can't do anything... any advice on that? 😆
Do you want advice on the filing/shaping, or living life with long nails in general? 😂😘
@@NovaKnowsBeauty uh yes! I also just got the beetles gel as well the blue color. Only the gel though. And some clips. I ordered a drill as well I don't think it's best but I'm hoping it'll work till I can get a better one. So I want to try it out today! I think I have everything now. Well drill will be here Monday.
the shape is very nice 🥰
I watched someone and they put on nail forms and then did the dual form then everything was smooth and the bottom wasn’t thick or lumpy
I most of the time put the polygel on the tip first the way I want it then apply to the nail then not as much to clean up or file x
Can you sculpt nails with polygel. Love your videos too xx
Would you do a video on eye make up for the older gal. Crepey eyes and such.
I hate dual forms!! But I also struggle with creating an apex and freehanding!
I been do this for year now , now I putting on my daughter she fall in love with it same me n I need set stuff n how much it cost that sets of polygel ??? Ur awesome beautiful love color on u awesome 👌 😘 👏 😎
Hey try applying the Polly gel to the inside of the dual forms and then apply it to your nail and cure. I find it easier and get a smoother application and result of the mail.
Never tried polygel, great video 🥰💖
I feel the same. I prefer to sculpt as well
Hi do you use glue putting the nails on
I have never laughed during a tutorial before 😂 This was so enjoyable, thank you ❤️
Have you tried the dual form hack where you put the paper form and then use the dual form so it's not gushing from the under side, but I still think for long nails like mine the structure prob wouldn't be strong the Apex🤷🏻♀️
Use isopropyl for slip and then put a thin smoothing later on the under
Wow that is very beautiful i love polygel alot it is so easy to do it
I just put the poly gel on the forms first then afterwards cure it and add another layer if it’s to thin
Beautiful colors
It's The Voice Over For Me Lol 😂😂😂 i like the honesty 💓
The best way to use dual forms is to use very little product and to do so in layers. Polygel was made so the person using the product can take their time to achieve a professional look. Hence it is beginner friendly.
It looked like the issue was the stiletto forms. You didnt have to add more to your thumb when you used a regular form.
