    My 3 year old daughter was just diagnosed 6 weeks ago. Needles to say my heart is broken and I feel so diminished. I’m so scared for her and my life is just around her right now. Watching ur videos has given me hope. I think ur amazing and smart and a real role model. I pray my angel will be just as good and responsible as you. I’m trying to find camps and classes for kids if you could suggest something. We live in the Toronto area.

    Thank you for this video, and all your videos. As someone who doesn't personally know any other type 1 diabetics it's good to hear how others deal with diabetes :). Also the idea of going for a walk when high is so simple yet I never thought of it haha, definitely going to do that next time I'm having high blood sugars!

    I have been a diabetic for around 12 years I just got put on the dexcom g6 and pretty soon getting the t slim and it overall has been very rough. I have been on manual injections for almost all of it but for almost 3 years I had no access to any kind of medication because I couldn't afford insurance. I thankfully never went dka during that entire time and I just started watching your videos and it's very nice hearing from other people with type one nobody I'm in contact with has it so it feels pretty isolated for me and the struggles I live with daily. Just wanted to say thank you 😊

      Hey Casey! I'm so sorry that you have struggled with access to medication - that is not ok! I'm glad to hear that you are getting a pump and Dexcom G6 soon though. Type 1 can be isolating, but we are all connected and in this together! Keep up all the hard work and stay well 💙💙💙

    Awesome video Michelle!
    The pre-bolus thing im getting better at. Saw my endo on Monday and he was stresssingggggg pre-bolus or at the very least before you eat (i sometimes forget and half way through or at the end I remember and I'm like crapppp sugars 12 with a straight up arrow) I'm trying very hard to always remember before I eat.
    Just recently I started bolusing for coffee..HUGE difference literally like 1 unit and it makes a BIG difference in my sugars after - way better at being in target range.

    I hate I missed the Instagram notice for questions. I was hoping you would address lack of sleep because pump alarms, lows, etc. My son has not slept through the night in so long but this week has been really bad. One big thing is the G6 looses its signal LOTS during the night lately. And as you know, for whatever reason that we may never know, my son's basals changed dramatically and therefore, crazy highs that won't come down until all of the sudden, it is like all that insulin becomes a locomotive of insulin sending crazy low (which of course is followed by the yo yo high from treating) which sends out alarms every 15-45 mins. depending on which alarm is going off on the t-slim. If he turns the pump off himself, the pump reminds him about every 15 mins. that it is still off. So no sleep. More stress issues from lack of sleep. Crazy numbers are prolonged. Blah Blah Blah. So the question in all of that is how do you get the much needed rest that diabetes is a pro at keeping from you (us anyway, maybe not you)?

    • @MichelleLord
      @MichelleLord  4 года назад +1

      Hi! Don't worry, I will be doing more Q&As, but for now I can answer your question here :). You're right, sleep is a HUGE issue for us T1Ds. So much beeping overnight! I find this is something I struggle with too, but I find that it goes in waves. It's all about nailing that correct basal for overnight, but like your son experienced, insulin needs can change for no reason. When I'm going through a period of bad blood sugars overnight and dealing with a lot of beeping, I personally am more lenient with myself in terms of highs. A lot of diabetics would not be comfortable with this, which is totally fine, but for a few days I may slightly increase the threshold of my high alarm to allow me to get more sleep. The overall goal is to find the right basals to let you return to your regular sleep, which is done with your diabetes team :). All the best!!

      Thank you. We just had one of the worst nights. The G6 lost signal and found signal all night long and screamed at my son to tell him. It was about 6 times per hour. I am not sure this is worth it anymore. He is so exhausted and angry. We called who just reads us the "script" when we call and tells us no way to turn off the alarms. We had such high hopes too. I am waiting to talk to Tandem right now. I am getting close to a 2 hour hold time so far.

    Just got my tslimx2 with basal IQ and dexcom G 6 ! Switched from an old Medtronic 530 with enlite sensor... I really like the new setup and got it all before the new year while my deductible was met! Only complaint is the cheap pump clip it comes with but easy fix with hipclip from amazon

    Having diabetes for 40 years, I was really excited to try the G6! I got it approved with my insurance today through my Diabetic Educator. I was told to download the G6 App from Google Play Store. The Play Store said it was compatible my Pixel 4 Phone. But after installing the G6 app on my Pixel 4, G6 app told me my Phone wasn't compatible....bummed out now. Anyway, do you have any videos showing how to use the G6 receiver instead of the G6 Phone app?
    Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the good work!

    This may be a long, drawn out comment and I am sorry if that is the case...
    To let you know a little about my Diabetes history: I was diagnosed with T1D when I was less than 2 years old and have been managing it for roughly 28/29 years now. I have gone through many types of insulin delivery from injection shots, to insulin pens, to using an insulin pump and a few different CGMs. I currently use a 670g pump and just within the last month, acquired my Guardian Sensor 3 from Medtronics. Before that, I was on the Freestyle Libre for about 1 year. I do have my own opinions on both and how useful they are in terms of accuracy and being user friendly, which is not relevant at the moment. In terms of mental health, being a preteen and teen with T1D was likely the worst struggle I had to go through; aside from the normal issues of being a teenager, dealing with T1D added so much more stress to my life. I felt like my parents and close friends didn't know exactly what I had to deal with on a day-to-day basis. They would say, "Just do it. You know you have to." (not to sound like a Nike ad). 13 y.o. me didn't quite appreciate being told that all the time. I suffered from "diabetes burnout" all the time and sometimes would just want to give up. I do understand mental health and Diabetes is so very important to taking care of yourself. During the time as a preteen and teen, I did see a child therapist and I eventually overcame most of the anger and frustration. Before RUclips became a thing and even up to recent years, I had no one in my personal life to share my experiences with that had first-hand knowledge. As stupid as it sounds, I never once made an attempt to seek out forums, chat rooms, vlogs etc.. Being in quarantine, has encouraged me to seek out help and guidance. Thank you for continuing to make T1D videos and being an outlet for other people like me managing (possibly struggling with) the disease. I have watched only a few videos of yours and those few alone have strengthened my confidence. They touched my heart in a way that talking to doctors and non-diabetic people never could (not to be so sappy about it). Quarantine alone has greatly increased my diabetes burnout again do to a huge change in lifestyle. Anyway....To anyone who has gotten this far, I hope it meant something to you. I know I really needed this. Again, thank you! :D

      I appreciate the time you took to share your diabetes story with me and everyone else watching this video❤️. It means so much to me to hear that some of my videos have provided you with confidence during this trying time. Seeing other T1Ds face the same daily challenges is a big comfort and makes us feel less alone. I love making these video to connect with other T1Ds, such as yourself. We are really all in this together! Take care, and keep seeking help and support during this time. There is so much out there online :) . My most recent video (for newly diagnosed T1Ds) gives a few online resources! All the best 💞

    Thanks for answering our questions. I switched from the freestyle libre to the dexcom g6 yesterday. I put the g6 on my arm. The readings were off. The sensor said 3.6 but my fingerprick said 5.9 so I collaborated it and then it said 4.7. Even after lunch it showed 12.2 but fingerprick said 10.3 so I collaborated again and it said 11.3. How are your sugar readings are they accurate with the g6. Also can you swim with the g6.

    Is a Dexcom/Pump fully covered by insurance in Canada?

    • @MichelleLord
      @MichelleLord  4 года назад

      No, unfortunately not :(. In my province (Ontario) we can apply for government assistance with covering the costs of the pump. Not all provinces have this funding though. Dexcom isn't covered at all by the government.

      No I wouldn't. This is actually a question I'm asked all the time haha. I really like pumps with tubing. I like being able to fully disconnect for short periods of time such as showering, swimming, ballet etc. I also like pumps with tubing for sleeping because I just place the pump beside me and I don't even feel that I'm connected to anything overnight. This is super super personal of course :). So many people love the Omnipod. I have many friends on it, and they would never change to pumps with tubing :P
