- Born "Dennis Wilson" in Hawthorne California in 1944, he was the middle brother of the Wilson trio, and the drummer of the "sound of California," "The Beach Boys". As a teenager, Dennis became enamored with cars and the surfing scene. This would inspire Dennis' suggestion, that the band capitalize on what would become a national phenomenon: Surf rock, and car songs. At the forefront of the 1960s hot rod craze, the band built their image around muscle machines and tasty waves. With Beach Boys songs such as Little Deuce Coupe, Surfin USA, Good Vibrations, California Girls, Fun fun Fun, 409, I Get Around, and many more. Dennis Wilson was "THE" Beach Boy of the group, as the only member who knew how to surf, and loved racing cars. And he would go on to own some world class sporty and exotic automobiles. Today, we're taking a look at the car collection of the "real" Beach Boy, Dennis Wilson. Let's begin.

I had a contractor in the seventies in Wa. state that had number 383? of 550 "bubble back window" 409's. He told me the Beach Boys got numbers ONE through FOUR for the song "shuttem down 409". Vids and posters today call it the Bubble TOP Window. No, it's the rear window! I have no reason to not believe his story: he raced and that was his source for his car directly. He built a ranch house on one level, so he could drive the car into the living room: i.e. the house was built for the car. Tore the lug nuts off doing 1/4 mile!!! And yes, I rode in the car and saw the (cheap) brass plate on the dash, 1 of 550. Oddball number, but it is what it is.!!
Where are the "Bubble Back Window" 409's the Beach Boys got for writing the song??? Of 550 made, they got 1 through 4, according to my racing friend who showed me HIS 409 in his living room. He built a ranch house in Lynden , Wa. FOR the car: a brass plate is in the dash with the number, his being 383? I believe (late seventies, memory going). Today posters call these cars a "bubble TOP window" for some strange reason. It's a hardtop and the bubble BACK window is in the BACK!! I have no reason to not believe the guy, as he raced and that was his IN for getting his car.

@phillipwallace,. Everyone has done things they aren't proud of. It's a shame that he couldn't get help, or wouldn't. In January 1996 I made the decision for sobriety. I seen what it was doing to friends of mine. Help is only good to those that will take it. You cannot force anyone to do something they are not ready for. His situation was very sad.
