What makes Efren the best imo is that his patterns in most games are so good. He just shoots it exactly how a rack should be shot. Sometimes he does miss but everyone misses. It's hard to compare Shane to Efren because we never really got to see a prime Efren. What we got was an Efren who was almost done with big pool events due to age. (Remmember that he didn't get to go to the US open for a long while)
@@NineballChris I'm not sure but from the stories and what other players said, Efren was not at his prime pool level when he went to play but he was still certainly a magnificent player regardless of that.
I confirm. I watched a video about his beginnings when he first went to Usa he had to give a fake name and change it everytime he moved to new state or he played in a tournament because many players were scared of him and started avoiding playing in the tournaments he was participating in for that his real name Efren Reyes was only known later in his career. And certainly, a player who plays this good with lots of feeling and right touch in 40 and 50 years of age must have been even better in his 20-30 where any human or sportman sees his prime.
Efren in his prime: Bruce Lee Efren nowadays: old teacher Ip-Man destroying adversaries with his wisdom, experience, and still enjoying... Totally GOAT and humbly badass !!
That's Danny dilerberto and he's always talking bad about everyone and thinks he knows everything and thinks he's hot shit. He's an old miserable asshole.
It's not that. Pool commentators are used to predicting shots, but with Efren, they have a hard time doing that so they come off as negative. They're not used to a player like Efren. That's why they branded him as a magician
The commentators sometimes don't really know, I mean it might sound disrespectful or cocky, but several of these shots just make sense, if you know about the physics of the cue ball. Like the long bank on the 9ball down the rail, when he says it's not going in, when in fact you can clearly see it will go in as he applied inside which in turn gave the OB leftside spin which is what helped it go in.
The thing that makes Efren great is his child like behavior... literally and figuratively... in the Phils he is called Bata or Kid... and he said that when he was a kid, he gets hapiness watching random people in the pool hall making Lucky shots and he emulates them... he shoots and makes balls as if he just made a lucky shot... and that makes him happy, that makes him great. Oh btw, he is toothless... like most kids. 😂😅
When Efren is at the table, the commentators might as well quit their job… Cause none of them has any idea about what he’s gonna do at all… His thinking is so far ahead that the shots that he “makes” the commentators weren’t even considering… Long live the GOAT, Mr. Bata
I just wish the great pool grandmasters that taught efren billiards has taught many other individuals but sadly, only efren shows this kind of brilliance.
Nothing too outrageous, here, but I’ve often said Efren shoots some terrible shots.. But when your execution is that good, there’s no such thing.. It’s what the greats do differently that makes them great..
I believe Danny is one of the most knowledgeable and entertaining pool commentators in the world, I enjoy those hilarious side comments he makes ! No one is capable of predicting Efrens shot choice in a pool game !
Those silver inlay dots on the top of the outside of the table are at the correct positions to play all of the tricky shots ...double ,triple and any other angle of difficult shot . They are a true guide to know where the correct angles are on the table ...try them next time you practice .. you'll see what i mean
What is amazing is that America never saw a PRIME Efren Reyes. His at his best when he was in his 20s and early 30s, when he was said to be unbeatable, which means his best years would be around the 1970s
Commentators back then had a hard time predicting Efren Reyes' shots. For the most part, they would get it wrong. That's why they branded him as the Magician.
Efren is great but Strickland, Van Boening and many of the newer players are right up there. The difference is Efren is great at all pool games... he's not a one-trick pony. I'd say Van Boening is very close to what Efren was as a player in his prime. I've been playing pool since 1950... 80 years old and I've watched a lot of excellent players and played a lot of excellent players. I like one pocket, straight pool and rotation the best. 8 Ball is OK but 9 ball is just flat boring!
Efren's specialty comes from his ability to navigate rails with the cue ball better than all the new professionals in the sport today. The difference is now the pros are so proficient with their jump game that his skills aren't as necessary when you have players like Fedor Gorst who seem to make any difficult jump shot on command with insane accuracy. Still he's an ice cold badass pool player because he usually fools around with his opponents and will pocket the last ball off two or three rails just for fun even in friendly competition which most professionals just don't have the confidence to do like a master would. To be fair though Fedor Gorst has done the same and he's one of my favorite pros today as well as Shane Van Boening.
Seeing Efren happy is a special thing. The absolute goat.
I wish all the greats of any sport had an attitude like him... Man he's amazing
I dont think there has ever been anyone as phenomenal as “Efren Reyes! ! ! AND happy as a kid, STILL absolutely in love with his
sport!
Could watch him all day. Spectacular

He was in the finals of the US Open 4 straight years from 94-97
@@NineballChris but think about how old he was then!
@@brancodiaz6019 He was winning a lot in his 40's. So how old does someone have to be to be in their prime?

The GOAT for sure.

you can tell the old commentator doesnt like Efren. He always disapproves but he is always wrong, hahaha
Not true
He loves and everyone
Loves
Efren
No that's just how he commentates, listen to any other games. He calls the shots as he sees them but often is wrong.

Efren dominated one pocket which is battle of the mind games... This is the proof that he is the goat even at his age
Nice!
Very!
Absolutely incredible. 😀😃😄😁😊
Every ball that went in "its not going in"

The often overused word "Legend" really is the only way to describe Reyes
That's insane!
Every country has a talent. The Phillipines have pool.
His dance at the end was priceless. He's so humble yet at the same time he's not holding back on a celebration for a shot like that to win it.
He's a god on the pool table and perhaps more importantly he's a happy god having fun 😂
The commentators need to just shut up and let Efren make the shots!!!!

Shane wouldn't touch Efren in his prime. He's the gist imho

Efren makes everything look so easy, it's ridiculous.
