I watch several couples who are doing their own off grid homesteads, etc. but you two are my favorite. You are cooperative, hard working, responsible and don't act like you're immature. You are really refreshing to watch. Keep up the good work. One other thing I appreciate about you two is that if something goes awry you don't complain and whine, but get right back up and continue on.
Hi guys just an idea, if you put the wooden suports of the raised beds on the outside of the corrugated iron sheets they wont come in contact with the compost etc and therefore wont rot also you can use them to attach poles for netting etc as required, great video
Hey Theo and Bee. The beds look good, but you might want to add a board across the middle posts to stop it from bulging out in the middle. Can be added halfway down so it's not visible and just covered with the brush and compost. Cheers
Bee! It's like the crap summer never happened! You sound and look great. Now to try and stay well....and...if it happens again, you KNOW you can recover. You are both total role models to this house-renovating 60 year old girl in mid Wales! ❤
The raised beds look great. One thing to watch for is as they fill with dirt, it may push out the metal sides, so you may have to reinforce the outside in the future.
Or if aesthetics matter, tie the posts together with their opposite internally so they can't move outwards and away from each other. You don't need to fill the whole thing either, only the top section.
The middle wood supports could be connected with heavy wire or some metal strapping about midway up. They supply that support when you buy metal raise bed kits.
Recommend putting in a diagonal wood brace from corner to center ... on the outside, to support the walls to keep them from bowing out. Then 1 brace spanning the top of the center supports to help with lateral spread. And a new bag of screws, lol.
I understand that you have a number of windows - these could be used to make some cold frames and hotbeds for over wintering and starting early spring plants. (Along with Bea's proposed greenhouse.) Also I would line the bottom of your raised beds with 8-10 cm of loose rock/pebbles/shingle/rubble to deter animals from burrowing up.
I forgot to mention last week that when you have your raised bed done, the edges will be sharp to lean against. Use either pool noodles or electrical insulation around the edges so you will be protected when gardening.
It is lovely to hear Bea laughing. And the thought of Theo eating his own carrot. I had to go lie down in a darkened room with a cup of weak tea and a fondant fancy.
It's so nice and refreshing hearing Bees laughter. I like the raised bed lasagna's as Bee called them 😂.If you can drop the beds into the ground a little bit, it will keep the sides from bulging out
You two are living your best life. Lovely to see Bee back in the videos with her radiant smile and vivacious laugh. Theo, you definitely made a fashion statement with those socks and sandals! 😆😂🤣😂😅🙄😏

Great raised beds. I would suggest you put a brace (another piece of wood) on the inside bottom from side to side, it will hold the sides together so it doesn't bow when you fill it up, just a thought. Look forward to Sundays flick....😅
Home grown is always the best. The gardening is the best therapy for Bee and one can sense her excitement and joy. Hope these raised beds give you loads of produce.🥬🧅🧄

I’m so glad Mr. and Mrs Adventure are looking at Portugal. I felt in the beginning, when they landed in Greece, that they should connect up with The Indie Projects. Bravo.
Theo - Get some steel stakes to drive into the ground along the long side so the bottom doesn't blow out on you. You may need to put something in the middle around the 2/3rds up between the walls to deal with the top. Use dense stuff (clay if you can find it) first as you want to hold the moisture from wicking away into the ground. Then put something that holds moisture down then your soils. I did the same thing years ago saved my back!
Why, hello Drew and Brit!! Two of my top fave vanlifing couples finally meeting again! 🤗😍 As others have mentioned, I’d recommend filling the bottom of the beds with gravel/pebbles for drainage and skirting the sides a tad to avoid bottoming out. The area would eventually look just gorgeous if you fence it in, maybe add a greenhouse (with all the spare old windows!) and make little pebble paths in between, planting tons of flowers around to attract pollinating insects, medicinal plants and companions like marigolds, datura, nasturtium and comfrey... 🤗🌱🌾🌸🌸
would have halved the height on them, the amount of dirt you need to put in there for a "small" growable area is enormous... and by halving them you would have twice the amount of beds/growable area and it would be an easier height to work with also remember to put in a brace between the two middle ones so the dirt doesn't push out the sides and make it bulge in the middle a ramp sounds like a great idea instead of steps down, would make it much easier to drive up and down with the wheelbarrow for sure
I have half the height, not great as it's neither here nor there, still have to stoop. Plenty of rotting wood in the bottom, leaves tec and they have what they want!
the idea of the hügelkultur is to fill it at least half way with garden debris before adding soil. The debris eventually rots down but it takes a long time and provides nutrients in the meantime. I built one this last summer and it worked beautifully.
Theo's smiling he's back on his tractor! 😊🚜👌 I can tell you how much I absolutely love your laugh Bee, when something really gets you! It makes my day 🥰 Nice to see you both laughing and enjoying your homesteading together ❤
Bea's caught the suns🤣🤣. I love that! The beds look great! Don't forget to layer soil in with the wood and vegetation when you fill the beds. It's the enzymes in the soil that break things down. I also want to recommend getting a couple sturdy 5 gallon pails. I used mine all the time in my yard. Can't wait to see the next thing you two get into.😊
I imagine a few of those bed steads from the salvage yard being used for trellises. I like the height to keep from bending for tending. Sun protection is a lifestyle.
Then they could have real garden beds. The gardens in Amarillo TX have bed steads both real and fashioned for their gardens. Or at least they did about 15 years + ago.

I watched a gardener make raised beds and they did it the same way you are. When you go and get wood chips get enough to put in the raised bed, they live in the wilderness of Alaska and they have trees all around them. So when they chopped down a tree to build their beds they would put the scraps of wood and then put the wood chips and sawdust over all the things they added to their beds. I think the raised beds are the best! Bee it has been wonderful to hear you laughing and having fun, I missed you and am very glad you doing better and Theo you are awesome, You are a very talented man and it’s fun watching you build things. You both will have a wonderful home, awesome garden and beautiful chicks. God bless and be safe!
I love the fact that you have such a good sense of humor even when you are working so hard. You two are so connected and it really is nice to hear Bee's laughter because I am laughing right along with you two. Keep bringing the real story. It's heart warming to connect with each video you produce.
I was thinking you might want reinforce the corners on the outside of the boxes with wood. There is going to be a lot of weight inside once the wood, compost and soil is inside. I think it could push out the sides, so maybe even a cross piece of wood on the long sides.
I really loved watching you both laughing and joking around. I suffer from depression and anxiety as well. Bea you're an inspiration, watching you laugh again gives me hope. Plus, you're lucky to have one amazing and loving man beside you.
Wonderful to see Bee laughing and working on such an inspiring project - the beds look great! Please consider building a ramp wide enough so you can bring the tractor down to the garden area because it will make hauling soil, compost and wood/broom in to fill the beds it’s so much more time efficient and it saves wear and tear on your body.
How heartwarming to see Bee back in the swing of things - Enough talk, more action! 😆 Theo absolutely loves his 🚜. You two always give me a laugh. I'm chuffed everything is going well. Love from Dudley. 💕
Those raised beds look marvelous and I am so impatient to see them filled. Also I can hardly wait to see the view out your front door from inside your house. Hopefully you will show us that soon. Hopefully Bee is feeling better with her sunburn by now. I was afraid of that when I saw her in the beginning of the video and hoped she was not out in the sun much.
People have already mentioned the possibility of the sides bulging out when soil is added. The solution to that is to set the base in the ground, and then add a simple metal strap between the two centre posts across the top. Nice looking job though.
I was thinking about a ramp with crushed rock as well rather than steps... since you have bedrock it'll save you from chipping away at it if you just build up on top if it. You might need to create a terrace of sorts with wood across it to hold the crushed rock at first but it'll tamp down and settle in place in time.
The raised beds look great but I'd bury them deeper in the soil, maybe by a foot. The idea of filling the base with organic debris is great, but your main problem in Portugal will be that raised beds that high will dry out quickly, baking in the heat, and will require constant watering. The lower decomposition of organic material will add to your heat. On the plus side, these beds will do well in cooler 'mid season' weather.
Love watching this project. Great idea for raised gardens. Hugelkulter is what I use, even in my pots (small twigs and things) and things grow so well. Thanks for the video.
BEA IT IS SO WONDERFUL TO SEE YOU LAUGH AND SMILE I AM SO HAPPY YOU ARE FEELING AND LOOK SO AMAZING THEO YOU ARE SO HAPPY BECAUSE YOUR BEAUTIFUL BEA IS BACK TO HER HAPPY SELF AWESOME VIDEO THANKS FOR SHARING
Hello you two!! So happy to hear Bea laughing ! My parrot, miss Buttons, and I really enjoy your channel and sharing your adventure. Good night from the United States
The raised beds turned out great! They are exactly the height I think would be perfect in a garden. I can’t wait to see what you plant. I know you’ll be a good gardener Bea, you give everything so much love.
Lovely to see you Bea. Theo can come and build me some raised beds if he likes. I'm looking forward to seeing what you grow in them. I can imagine the chickens are going to love what you don't use yourself. 👍❤
Hope you bolt them through. I built very tall raised beds (strong posts, wood slat sides) and the weight of the soil (etc.) ended up bulging the sides and no doubt over time, the sides would have popped off (I tore them down before this could happen).
I love raised beds and you are smart to make them tall like that. It's so much easier for planting, weeding and harvesting. You are making a lot of progress! It is great to hear you happy Bea. I bet the Chickens love having you back.
You need to put a brace on top of the middle posts of the beds to stop them bellying with the weight of the soil ,also all tractors have a pipe on the silencer so you are not breathing toxic fumes into your lungs.

Please see my comment re broom. It may not be safe to do so Portugal. In many places broom is a noxious and invasive weed.
Just a thought but could a kit container work, as in one that comes in separate parts that put together make one.

Yes, my thought too. Was wondering if they were going to seal them. They will rot
I too was thinking/wondering if they treated the wood first...don't want them decomposing along with what they'll put in/under the beds..
Hey Theo and Bee. The beds look good, but you might want to add a board across the middle posts to stop it from bulging out in the middle. Can be added halfway down so it's not visible and just covered with the brush and compost. Cheers
Yeah, that was my idea too, I actually have beds like that and the poles go all the way into the ground for half a meter
@@DuartJansen that would be even better yeah
@@ktulu193 yeah, but still the top will bulge a bit, so still needs a support beam in the middle at half the height to prevent that from happening
and around the top so you don't cut yourselves
@@frankielee4502 yeah, my beds are made of wood, so no worries there, but those metal plates will cut you if you're not careful!

The raised beds look great. One thing to watch for is as they fill with dirt, it may push out the metal sides, so you may have to reinforce the outside in the future.
I was thinking this also. The weight of the soil will pop the corrugated metal right off the internal uprights.

Gardening is so good for us! We get a good snoot full of the happy microbes that are in the soil plus the satisfaction of watching food grow.
It's great to see you back. Those are fantastic garden bins ❤
Wonderful to see Bee laughing and working on such an inspiring project - the beds look great! Please consider building a ramp wide enough so you can bring the tractor down to the garden area because it will make hauling soil, compost and wood/broom in to fill the beds it’s so much more time efficient and it saves wear and tear on your body.
remember to treat the lumber that you are using as the posts as well as the metal because they will decay from being exposed to the soil and water.
So happy to see Bee smiling and glowing again. I watch Mrs Adventure. Beautiful beautiful people. From Dartmouth Nova Scotia
People have already mentioned the possibility of the sides bulging out when soil is added. The solution to that is to set the base in the ground, and then add a simple metal strap between the two centre posts across the top. Nice looking job though.
Bee,our English Rose with the laugh and happy smile. We adore you Bee and Theo! Well done
I was thinking about a ramp with crushed rock as well rather than steps... since you have bedrock it'll save you from chipping away at it if you just build up on top if it. You might need to create a terrace of sorts with wood across it to hold the crushed rock at first but it'll tamp down and settle in place in time.
Oh Bea, it’s so good to hear you Laughing! You are so beautiful! You both are such an inspiration to all of us!
I love seeing Beas lovely smile .... I missed you and I am so happy you are feeling better
Love watching this project. Great idea for raised gardens. Hugelkulter is what I use, even in my pots (small twigs and things) and things grow so well. Thanks for the video.
Lovely to see Mr and Mrs Adventure!
You may need to reinforce the exterior of the panels, the weight of the soil can cause them to bow out.
Check out flat pack shipping containers, might be able to get those without a lorry.
Hello you two!! So happy to hear Bea laughing ! My parrot, miss Buttons, and I really enjoy your channel and sharing your adventure. Good night from the United States
If you have any lay some flattened boxes in the bottom to stop weeds etc growing up through the soil
The raised beds turned out great! They are exactly the height I think would be perfect in a garden. I can’t wait to see what you plant. I know you’ll be a good gardener Bea, you give everything so much love.
Great to see and hear things back to "normal" smiles and laughs are precious. : )
Bea you sound so happy and I'm so glad to see your eyes sparkling as you talk!
Lovely to see you Bea. Theo can come and build me some raised beds if he likes. I'm looking forward to seeing what you grow in them. I can imagine the chickens are going to love what you don't use yourself. 👍❤
So wonderful to see your excitement blossom again and hearing you both laughing together is contagious. Lovely to see the joy you so deserve.
