Most of Dio's songs are basically encapsulated comic books he created for himself. Holy Diver is about a Messiah in another world who follows the hero's path in a way similar to Jesus. Dio was never afraid to explain his lyrics when asked.

Always love to see you discovering 80s rock/metal!
Ronnie James Dio sang as a solo act, leading the band Rainbow, and as lead singer for Black Sabbath for a stretch. He is a highly revered vocalist, and despite being of very short stature, he commanded the biggest of stages! But the most important thing to know about Dio, is that he was an absolute sweetheart of a man...always had time for his fans and friends alike.

At this point, Dio had been working since 1957 (he started out at 15),
so he'd just about perfected how he wanted to sound, and was always
trying new things when he got on stage. This (Dio) was also the 10th
band he'd been in (counting name & minor personnel changes).
BTW- Murray & a large dragon both were part of his mid-eighties stage show.

Dio was a rare talent and he managed to always surround himself with talented musicians. Many well known names like Richie Blackmore and Tony Iommi played with him, but there were so many more guys that should've been icons but took a backseat in order to support Dio thru the years. Also, from the interviews I have seen he was beloved by not just his fans, but all the big name musicians he met along the way. You see biopics all the time where musicians praise another guy's writing or performances, but with Dio you often heard them speak on the influence he had on them off-stage as well.

You very much need to react to “how the gods kill” by Danzig the vocals in that song are absolutely perfect.

I think you should react to Shooting Star - Last Chance. Outstanding Song with a unique Sound. Beside that - Dio was one of the most respected and best Metal Singers ever!

This song and opening effects came before Thriller and may be the inspiration for it.

If you really want to hear Ronnie's range I'd check out "mistreated" by Rainbow, live in Munich; everything is epic, Ronnie's voice, Blackmore's guitar, Cozy Powell's drums..all so good. Thank you for the video.

If you like Dio, you should check out Liliac, female fronted band of 5 siblings. They do covers/tributes of classic rock/metal as well as original material. They have done 3 Dio covers, Rainbow In The Dark, Holy Diver, and The Last In Line (requested by Wendy Dio for the Dio cancer benefit and given a copy of a previously unreleased longer version by Dio’s drummer, Vinnie Appiece, to use - learnt, recorded, mixed, and film clip done in a one week deadline.

You'd think they'd have just hired some short actors so Dio could be in the same shot as at least one other person :D
