Hey guys we are aware that Ronnie James Dio himself was making music before Iron Maiden. We just meant that Maiden was formed before Dio was. Thanks for reminding us that RJD popularized the devil horns 🤘
Actually RJD did not invent the horns, he just popularized them(his grandma taught him this symbol) and btw they mean protection from evil🤘 Great Video!!
Ronnie James Dio's first band elf played at a party about a half mile from my home in the 70s I was to young to be there but I could hear it from my home.

Actually Dio started his Metal sound long before Iron Maiden. Dio played for Elf then Rainbow both of these bands were like early 70s. He went on to sing Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath and Mob Rules. And then he got with my favorite Heavy metal guitar player of all time the much underrated Vivian Campbell and he and Dio were in their prime and made these great Albums together. Holy Diver, the Last in Line and Sacred Heart. Rock !
ty man dio is the absolute G O A T ronnie was in all those bands and actually brought out the musicality of sabbath, listen to heaven n hell the video of the angels smoking, tony iommi's rifts sound like a river flowing thru rock n roll heaven where lord ronnie resides, dio wrote almost all his tunes for every band, and played the trumpet in his youth, ozzy never wrote a lyric for sabbath or ever played an instrument, and had a bland mundane voice until he changed it for his solo stuff, but ozzy sabbath was iconic as well no doubt

One of my all-time-favorite concerts, Dio opening with Motorhead for Iron Maiden... RJD could still bring it into his 60s as a performer and front man, just an amazing legacy of music he left us with to remember him.

RJD is by far my favourite singer of all time, just ahead of Freddie. His death hit me like a ton of bricks. His epic ethereal voice was the anthem to my difficult teen years. 🔥🔥
I always thought that "Rainbow In The Dark" was his first single as a solo artist. Ronnie James Dio was a worthy successor to Ozzy in Black Sabbath; listen to Neon Knights and Children Of The Sea!

Great song from a truly great rock vocalist who was very instrumental in the Hard Rock and early Metal world. It is true that Iron Maiden preceded the group Dio but Ronnie James Dio was fronting the band Elf in 1967 and truth be known he goes back to the late '50s as a singer in several groups starting with the Vegas Kings. He is also famously credited with using the Devil Horn hand sign used in the metal world today (he said his Grandmother used it to ward off the Evil Eye).

You can't go wrong with Dio with Rainbow or Black Sabbath. "Stargazer", "Long Live Rock & Roll", "Kill the King', "Light in the Black", "The Shed", "Catch the Rainbow", "16th Century Greensleeves", "Temple of the King" and "Mistreated" (live) are some of the great Rainbow songs. "Sign of the Southern Cross", "Heaven & Hell", "Lonely is the Word", "Voodoo", "Children of the Sea", and "I" are great Black Sabbath Songs. Dio is a huge rabbit hole that you can get lost in.

Good review. Definitely recommend "The last in Line" and "Rainbow in the Dark." ALSO - you should listen to Black Sabbath, "Heaven and Hell," which had Ronnie James Dio on vocals. Ronnie wrote that song, so a. it's deep and b. it's a classic! Love his voice, one of the best all time for rock!

There is a family band you should look into . Liliac , they have fantastic original music and have done covers of Holy Diver , The Trooper , Enter Sandman and more ! They will blow your mind !
One reaction have never seen with Ronnie James Dio during Black Sabbath is the Mob Rules title track, the Mob Rules.
Also the album right before this one and its title track called The Last in Line are awesome.

How do you replace the G.O. A. T. ? That was awesome! loved it! Dio is legend. I saw him live (finally) and he is 5'4" tall with the voice of a giant. Vivian was still with him then and thought I would pass out. Vivian Campbell is one of the greatest...in case you are new to rock. He's been with Def Leppard forever since leaving Dio!
