That is Murray on the cover. So here is the deal guys. When Dio put the first band together he made an agreement with all the guys that they would put every bit of money they had into making the album and the subsequent supporting tours with the kind of stage show to compete with the best, but in turn they would need to sacrifice in terms of salary and personal pay day in order to make it happen. Holy Diver was a bigger success than could have even anticipated, but they stuck to the plan and reinvested the money back into the tour and subsequent albums, etc. Going into the 3rd album, Sacred Heart, they had pretty much achieved what they had set out to do, so Vivian approached Ronnie about their original agreement and when the band's salaries would be increased. Ronnie sort of kept putting him off. Some believe the Ronnie's wife and manager, Wendy Dio, was calling the shots and Ronnie just following along. Wendy viewed Ronnie as the talent and name brand, with the band more like hired guns and ultimately replacable. In the end, their salaries were never raised, at least not to a level Viv ever thought was fair. Vivian was very bitter that Ronnie did not keep his word. Ronnie and Wendy claim a different version of the story, of course. From that point Vivian was very disheartened and discouraged with the business of music. It became more of a job and less of a passion. He did a project with a band call the Riverdogs, then played in the touring band for Whitesnake along with Adrian Vandenberg in support of the 1987 self -titled album. The incredible John Sykes (also Thin Lizzy, Tygers of Pan Tang, solo and Blue Murder) was the guitarist on the record, but had a falling out with Coverdale prior to the tour. Sykes' guitar sound is one of the best ever for hard rock/metal. Incredible. Anyway, got sidetracked, sorry. Then Viv made the move from Whitesnake to Def Leppard, which was a very shrewd business move. Leppard needed to replace Steve Clark, RIP, and he fit right in. For Vivian it was a steady gig with a very successful, and what became a very stable, band as well. Vivian endured a battle with cancer, which the band supported him through and gave him the necessary time to seek treatment, which has led successfully to remission of the cancer. After Ronnie's passing, Viv got back together his original Dio bandmates and formed and band called Last In Line as a side project that sees a return to 80s Dio hard rock/metal format. Vivian stands by his version of the story, but he has done his best to forgive and let go of the bitterness. For the diehard fans of early Dio, we are just happy to hear Viv return to that same aggressive attacking sound and style. Check out the Last in Line stuff, it Rocks! But back to Dio, please do Stand Up and Shout sometime, the song absolutely makes you want to! Dio went through several other great guitarists over years, but Vivian was always my fav, at least until Doug Aldrich for the album Killing the Dragon. I saw that tour live and he just killed it. He also played the Viv solos practically note for note, which he understands (as a fan himself) how that can be important. Doug also went on to play in Whitesnake later and then later and currently with the Dead Daisies, as well some other side projects. Check out them all! Oh, and again, when you listen to the Whitesnake '87 album or the band Blue Murder, appreciate that great killer guitar tone, sustain and vibrato as John Sykes! Check out Crying in the Rain. Thanks guys! Peace, take care. Rock on. 🤘

While I'll echo many others in Dio comments that have suggested the next song you react to with Dio singing be Stargazer by Rainbow, I'll list a few reasons. For Ty, it begins with an incredible kick-ass drum solo (Cozy Powell was a fantastic drummer). This is an epic, 8-minute song, so quite a different composition to the 2 you've done. Dio wrote the cool lyrics, from the point of view of an Egyptian slave forced for decades to build a pyramid. Dio was a bit younger here, and hits some higher notes. Ritchie Blackmore gives us an awesome guitar solo. Plus, it's just a great song! Thanks!

Another song from this band that you SHOULD react to that’s similar in tempo, but much faster and harder in my opinion, is the song “I SPEED AT NIGHT”. Not sure which album the song is on exactly (hopefully someone will mention it in the comments) but I’m sure it will end up on your playlist.
Why? Ripping guitar. Thundering drums. Dio’s epic voice. All packed into a galloping ensemble of speed metal that will leave you breathless and feeling aggressive by the end.

    This is quintessentiall 80's metal
but Dio's finest moment was with
Black Sabbath.Tony Iommi's warm greasy foul tone meshed perfectly with Dio.. Ronnie previously did brilliant work with other legends but the Dio era Sabbath was his finest moment.
Suggestion- "Sign Of The Southern Cross" off Mob Rules.

Okay, okay, I'll choose one for you. Listen to the song "Egypt (The Chains Are On)". But trust me when I say that every song on that album is PURE GOLD.

You guys are spot-on that guitarist Vivian Campbell shines more on this particular song than Ronnie James Dio does, himself. That said, if you really want to hear the full, Ronnie James Dio experience at his finest, check him out out on his first outing with classic heavy metal lords Back Sabbath themselves, on the song "Children of the Sea", from their 1980 album "Heaven and Hell". It's timeless...and utterly magnificent.

Love this album so much... one of those records, like most of the Dio band, that you can't play loud enough... just an absolutely fantastic band all around... also a push to do I Speed At Night, track 4 off this same album... killed a pair of really nice 6x9 Pioneer polypropylene speakers in my 67 Cougar to that song, hehe, it was worth it! Saw Dio early in his career and also thankfully later, opening for Iron Maiden.. still in his 60s and the man was amazing...

Have you ever covered Janis Joplin? I have not found one yet.
    Try the following:
Ball and Chain (Monterey Pop Festival 1967)
    Cry, Baby
    Maybe
    Me, and Bobby m gee
    Just to start.
The best is Little Girl Blue..from Tom Jones Show 1969
This woman sang from the depths of her heart. Nobody knows how to do that now. Pure raw talent.
No electronic aids, just pure talent.
