My Dad, who is no longer here, met Ronnie James Dio in the '90s and to this day I have the photo they took together saved. My Dad would always tell me how down to earth Dio was and how kind he was. When my Dad saw him again in the early 2000s in concert after the show had ended, the first thing he asked my Dad was how's the wife and son doing? What was shocking to my Dad is how he remembered the names, but that's how he was with his fans. It was a person who basically treated you like family. Also, you can truly hear his vowels and you know they're clean with this song.
The same here!!! Met Ronnie three times and during the first concert in the Netherlands we had eye contact while I was belting out on his songs. After the last song he walked ofstage towards me and TALKED to me! The mighty Ronnie! And after a second concert years later he saw me and invite me backstage at the festival: he still knew who I was and the content of our first talk! I’n blessed meeting such a humble and warm personality. Ronnie forever❤
The only thing I did not like was that at the later part of his career, he became 'observantly political'. He said some things at Annie's in Ohio, that simply he needed to stay away from. He didn't and it was working against him. That he had problems with his original guitarist (Vivian Campbell), that was 'well-known' and hurt his battle with Ritchie Blackmore as well. Wendy had a profound and negative influence on him.
The man was legendary for remembering names and faces...when you hear him talk about his love for his fans, there is no doubt what we meant to him personally.
There's a story about Dio meeting a fan in the 80s and the fan telling him about how his brother is going through some difficulties. The same fan meets Dio 20 years later and Dio asks him "How's your brother doing?"
Ronnie was so kind to my son who is mostly deaf and had hearing aids on - Ronnie sought him out and interacted with him like a long lost family member. Sometimes it's just fine to meet your heroes.
The term Heavy Metal came from a newspaper reporter going to see Blacksabath's show, and he described their sound as "heavy metal being dragged across the floor." I believe that is what you are trying to describe at 3:32.
I met Dio once in person, shook his hand, and talked to him face to face for maybe a minute, but it was so cool. I will never forget him and never stop listening to his music.
I absolutely love that you’re so open to listening to an older genre of music and also a heavier sound and vocals. I had the pleasure of working for Ronnie. For a man of such a small stature, when you watched him on stage and sang, omg!! what a powerhouse of vocals!!! He was a very sweet and gracious man!! Miss you Ronnie!!
Ronnie was the G.O.A.T. he wrote the best lyrics, was the best front man and singer. He could tell a great story with just a handful of words. He recorded in many genres over his 52 year recording career. I would have trouble naming my favorite 100 songs he wrote. He often harmonized to his own voice.

There was a pub I used to frequent that played this song once every night. Everyone who used to frequent that pub knew this and knew the lyrics by heart. Anyway, at some point during the evening the intro would start playing and, much to the bemusement of people who were there for the first time, a hush would fall on everyone in the place. People would stop talking mid conversation (which is a feat in and of itself when it comes to a pub) and the people working the bar would stop what they were doing and if someone was ordering a beer they would just hold up their index finger to their lips. Once Dio started singing, the place would erupt and everyone would sing along. Can't think of a better legacy for any artist.
Dio was one of a kind. It's mind blowing that he had verry little vocal training. One of the best vocal performances was the song Mistreated by Rainbow, the live version from 1977 in Munich.
Children of the Sea (Live) from the album Live Evil Black Sabbath is the one to listen to if you want to hear his range, in fact the whole album will blow you away.

My friends and I had the pleasure of meeting, and chatting with Dio a couple of times after shows back in the 80's. One would be taxed to find a more genuine, caring, humble, and respectful person than Ronnie. He made himself accessible and really cared about his fans, whether their individual opinions were good or bad. Hell, he'd question us more than we'd question him. After sharing some of the 'ol "combustible botanicals" with him, he would ask things like did we enjoy the show, and/or if we thought any changes needed to be made. Dude was a gift for all of us to enjoy. RIP Ronnie, you're sorely missed.
I love the "jump jump" pre-grace notes to the next line of the verse. He is fantastic on "Heaven and Hell" from his first album with Black Sabbath. That one really grabbed me.
Great reaction to one of the best. I'd suggest Rainbow in the Dark, Heaven and He'll (from when he was with Sabbath) and Man on the Silver Mountain (Rainbow)
And "Catch the rainbow", he is so smooth on that song. I mean, if someone were to check his range and expression, that song is the song for it. "The man with the golden voice" His voice was so powerful. I remember as if it were yesterday, the first time I heard Dio and thinking.. I can understand everything his singing so clearly. Thanks for your review. It's great to hear you unpack the work of Dio.. a man who could clearly sing as well live and in the studio. So glad I had the experience of him while he was fronting for Black Sabbath during the early 80's.
There are so many songs to listen to to get the depth and breadth of RJD. 'The Last in Line' from his solo career, and certainly 'Heaven and Hell' from his Black Sabbath stint showcase the wider extent of what he brings to the table.
I love how its 7 minutes into the vid and you have only analyzed ONE LINE! HAHA It shows how taken you were with the intro music and atmosphere and the first sung words. Very nice to see you enjoy this! Holy Diver is a beloved metal song.
It's really cool to see you discover and love this as much as you do. This music is in my DNA and seeing you experience for the first time gives me hope... And keeps The Man on the Silver Mountain alive.

Underrated músic vocals from dio that nobody seems to react is , " my eyes" and " as long as its not about love" would love to see a react on one of Those 2 .
@@randominc.2251 Truly I enjoy almost everything Dio did once he transitioned to Rainbow and going forward. Not many of his songs are what I would consider to be 'average' compared to other vocalists songs. Almost everything he did was at minimum 'exceptional' or better lol. He was a master craftsman in his field. I sooo wish we still had him with us to this day... even if he had retired and no new music... just enjoying life. He deserves it for all of the hours of entertainment he provided the world.
You descriptions are awesome.. yes Dio had an amazing control and precision on his attack of the words and his projection of his voice always pretty bright
I'll never forget, as a 17 year old, walking into my favorite record store, and seeing the first DIO album were new albums were setup ready to be listened to (if you pick the headphone the vinyl player started). Remember, we had no idea when what will be released. All I knew was he left Black Sabbath. Anyway. I remember putting the headphones on. Anxious cannot describe it. And then listening to the first side being completely overwhelmed and mesmerized. There are some moments in life you do not forget. Cheers from Germany.
Dio wrote this song himself both music and lyrics, i think he did the harmony vocals as well which you asked about. I really think you should react to some live performances from his prime in the 70s and 80s, it really was his element. The live video with Rainbow from Munich in 1977 is great overall, the live video of the song "Heaven and hell" from 1980 with Black Sabbath is a couple of great examples. Dio was also great at singing soft and beautiful which can be heard in the 17 minute version of the song "Catch the rainbow" in the Munich live video i mentioned, its very long with a long guitar solo but its really great.
Don't even have to see the vid to give a thumbs up. Seen Ronnie twice in smaller venues. Five foot away fist in the air singing along. He was the ultimate showman, always a big smile on his face doing what he loved.
Love your reaction and you've already got so much praise about Ronnie (and facts) so I'll just add that voice is comming from a man just over 5 fr tall & i hope you do listen to more and see how powerful it can be !
Ronnie James Dio is a Legend and Metal wouldnt be what it is without him, sadly hes no longer with us but he will allways be remembered as one of the best , if not the best Metal Singer of all time
I never had the opportunity to see him in live but many people including other metal vocalists talk about how loud his voice was even withoutba microphone. Supposedly for being a small guy his voice projected louder than life.
I saw Ronnie perform with Black Sabbath in 2006. It was the BEST concert I've ever been to, all because of Ronnie's amazing singing. I've been a Dio fan since the 80s and always loved Dio era Sabbath.
I love it! Killswitch Engage did a cover of this song that is seriously fun. I think the song I like best so far is Dio's live version of "Don't Talk to Strangers" 🙂
Agreed. Whether reacting or not, the killswitch version is an absolute must for pure entertainment. And while you don't improve on Dio, Howard Jones is also incredible.
One of the greatest metal singers of all time, I was fortunate enough to see him several times in the 80s after last in line came out. Absolutely incredible live show as well, he never disappointed, sounded exactly the same as the record, incredibly powerful . R.I.P.
I'm so glad I got to see him live in an amphitheater shortly before he died. I'd listened to his music since I was a young boy and was always blown away by his amazing voice. I'm glad to say he sounded even better live!
There will never be another Ronnie James Dio.A powerful voice in the world of metal. I wish there was music like this today. Sadly there is not and that's a shame. Love you brother.
I have been fortunate enough to have seen RDJ live many times, from when he was with Rainbow to Black Sabbath and solo. His live performances were always spectacular. He is one of the most, if not the most, iconic singers in any genre. What is amazing is that he never took vocal lessons. He trained at a young age of the trumpet and that is where he learned breath control.
I was lucky enough to see Dio at a small venue in Cincinnati in 1998. The air was electric in the sold out show! We were beyond energetic, and Ronnie picked up on it! The band had nowhere to be for 2 more days, so the concert kept going! A 2.5 hour show went on for over 4 hours! He kept saying "You deserve More, Cincinnati!" One of the best shows Ever!
It was a hum, he was a total power house and a beautiful gentleman, and i had the honour of meeting him a few times and seen him on tour all over the world. still cant believe he is not with us any more.
Seeing Ronnie live in 1983, 1986, and 1988 had been some of the best moments. But you need to check out Sign of Southern Cross and Heaven and Hell when he was with Black Sabbath. His early years of rock was some of my favorites…
The King of Rock and Roll gives the best of Ronnie's vocals. I think you'd be surprised at how amazing he was. It blows away the famous songs being requested
I remember first hearing Dio in my favorite movie at the time as a kid in the '80s, in 'Iron Eagle' with 'Hide in the Rainbow'. Has stuck with me til this day.
Always a great day when some Dio is involved, such a great voice. Rainbow In The Dark should be another one from him to check out, very good. Another really good singer I'd really like to see you analyze is David Coverdale from Whitesnake, Still Of The Night is such an awesome display of his vocal abilities, please do this one
I love these videos. I just discovered your channel and watching you react to and analyze some of my favorite singers (Dio, Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, and Chester Bennington) has taught me to appreciate them even more!
Hi there! I just found your channel and love it! You HAVE HAVE HAVE to listen to "Don't Talk to Strangers." Hands down the best DIO song and arguably has one of the best guitar solos ever, especially if you like a good guitar/vocal duet.
One of his best songs like 'Last in Line'. One tremendous voice, the voice of Heavy Metal as some say. There are many outhere (Dickinson, Coverdale, Halford...) but I loved him and will love for how long I'll live. This piece is giving me peace.
Saw Dio live in Melbourne, Australia in 1986. Myself, my brother, and a group of friends made a real event of the whole thing by hiring two limousines. The concert was absolutely brilliant, tied in with memories of the time, of being somewhat of an outcast because my brother, friends and I were 'headbangers'. Thanks for vindicating our appreciation of talent, Bethany! I lost my brother in a motorcycle accident 18 months later, and when we lost Dio it seemed to close a chapter of my life, one which I still look back on with so much fondness. I love how every utterance is important to Dio, how his voice, his instrument, is a percussive, rhythmic and melodic contributor to everything he sang.
"Children of the Sea" and "Sign of the Southern Cross" when he sang with Black Sabbath are great songs that show the juxtaposition of the sweet and raw sound Dio can mix together.
I've been looking at covers of _Holy Diver_ and nobody does it as well as Ronnie James Dio. His voice is just so ... BIG. I think that's what this song needs, and what makes it immortal in the world of Heavy Metal.
Man how I miss Ronnie! Was so fortunate to see him 6 months before he passed away with Heaven and Hell! He was and will always remain the G.O.A.T. of everything rock and metal!
You almost hit with 'sluggish' since there is an entire genre of Metal called 'Sludge' that is essentially an offshoot of groove, hardcore, southern downtempo backbeat type grooves that you mentioned. Good call.
Thanks for sharing Bethany!! Here's a tidbit to this incredible singer. Ronnie never was formally trained or had any voice coach work with him. Sometimes, it is best leave geniuses alone!!

There are so many songs to listen to to get the depth and breadth of RJD. 'The Last in Line' from his solo career, and certainly 'Heaven and Hell' from his Black Sabbath stint showcase the wider extent of what he brings to the table.
Lady I think you're terrific your reactions are just as genuine as they get and you have a very extensive knowledge of vocal anatomy.. good for you😊
I love how its 7 minutes into the vid and you have only analyzed ONE LINE! HAHA
It shows how taken you were with the intro music and atmosphere and the first sung words.
Very nice to see you enjoy this!
Holy Diver is a beloved metal song.
It's really cool to see you discover and love this as much as you do. This music is in my DNA and seeing you experience for the first time gives me hope... And keeps The Man on the Silver Mountain alive.
I love your channel. You are soooo animated in your reactions and I love the vocal reverse engineering that you do! Just so much fun to watch. Love this song but now check out Dio's "Last in Line". Gotta say it again,...LOVE your channel!
she is pretty as hell to LOL yes LOVE her reactions!
Just want to tell you that I have learned so much from your analysis of all of these great singers... I love your honest reactions. Thank you. I feel like I need to pay you for your knowledge and I've shared your channel with all of my friends....
Underrated músic vocals from dio that nobody seems to react is , " my eyes" and " as long as its not about love" would love to see a react on one of Those 2 .
Magica is a beast of an album.
I would rather a more extreme contrast...Pain from Strange Highways which is the most distorted his voice ever got....
I don't know how there are so many famous songs you've never heard before, but keep up the good work.
So glad I found your channel! Rest in Power, Ronne. The all time king of heavy metal and all round great guy!
The face of heavy metal: Dio! Please, react to "The sign of the southern cross".
Yes, absolutely!
i second that
Thats what Im saying, already left the comment above.
Holy Diver was such a polished album the guitars and drums are all unique.Invisible,Dont talk to Strangers, every tune on this album ROCKS!🤟
Indeed a masterpiece
Ronnie James Dio is a Legend and Metal wouldnt be what it is without him, sadly hes no longer with us but he will allways be remembered as one of the best , if not the best Metal Singer of all time
For more Dio, I recommend All the Fools Sailed Away. It's a slightly different tempo and style, but Ronnie's storytelling is (as always) immaculate.
I never had the opportunity to see him in live but many people including other metal vocalists talk about how loud his voice was even withoutba microphone. Supposedly for being a small guy his voice projected louder than life.
Yay!! Glad to see RJD here now
I love that your journey with Ronnie James Dio is just beginning... so much more greatness to come & experience. I envy it.
“There's a cat in the blue
Coming after you, holy diver”
R.i.p Ronnie James DIO ❤
I am enjoying the variety of music styles of your analyses. Your voice is lovely as well. Keep analyzing and I'll keep watching!
Don’t talk to strangers, sign of the southern cross or children of the sea
That drive is a gallop. Being a bass player you learn that quick! Love your videos!!
Yep. Bass player here as well.
Ronnie James Dio 🤘. You should definitely check out Gates of Babylon by Rainbow another singing masterpiece by Dio. Great review 🙌
One of the best singers ever in Rock. Fortunate to have seen him
There will never be another Ronnie James Dio.A powerful voice in the world of metal.
Fantastic reaction! More DIO! Every track of the album this is taken from is killer! One of the best albums of all time IMO.
The King of Rock and Roll gives the best of Ronnie's vocals. I think you'd be surprised at how amazing he was. It blows away the famous songs being requested
You have such a journey in Dio. He IS the master, there will never be his equal. RIP Ronnie 😢
Not only do I appreciate your analysis, but your reactions are great. ❤️
I remember first hearing Dio in my favorite movie at the time as a kid in the '80s, in 'Iron Eagle' with 'Hide in the Rainbow'. Has stuck with me til this day.
So fun! love it! you nailed it. I was 16 when this came out and his voice has never been duplicated only imitated. Great vid again!
She is by far my favorite to watch for Reaction videos
I love your analysis. Really great. Rammstein, Dio etc. Bravo. Very profound.
Hi there! I just found your channel and love it! You HAVE HAVE HAVE to listen to "Don't Talk to Strangers." Hands down the best DIO song and arguably has one of the best guitar solos ever, especially if you like a good guitar/vocal duet.
This is fun. I appreciate you pointing out qualities that I've always just jammed out to. Cheers
I lost my brother in a motorcycle accident 18 months later, and when we lost Dio it seemed to close a chapter of my life, one which I still look back on with
so much fondness.
I love how every utterance is important to Dio, how his voice, his instrument, is a percussive, rhythmic and melodic contributor to everything he sang.
I've seen Ronnie Live. He was a small guy, but had the biggest voice. His musical legacy will live on for many decades to come.
"Children of the Sea" and "Sign of the Southern Cross" when he sang with Black Sabbath are great songs that show the juxtaposition of the sweet and raw sound Dio can mix together.
Must see him live. MUST! Amazing artist. One of the all time greats.
I've been looking at covers of _Holy Diver_ and nobody does it as well as Ronnie James Dio. His voice is just so ... BIG. I think that's what this song needs, and what makes it immortal in the world of Heavy Metal.
One of the all time great singers, and one of the all time greatest humble and nice people.
Pull, that first beat hooks and pulls you is what came to mind. Anyway, Dio is a legend. Great channel!
Man how I miss Ronnie! Was so fortunate to see him 6 months before he passed away with Heaven and Hell! He was and will always remain the G.O.A.T. of everything rock and metal!
Dio has been with me ever since I was a kid in the 70s. Rainbow, Sabbath, Dio. He is top of the line. And he was such a super nice person. \m/
Okay, i fall in love when you get so excited
Seen Dio twice in concert, great concerts. Talked to him and his wife once through a mutual friend. Very nice people.
Absolutely love your reactions. "Man on the Silver Mountain" would be a good follow to this.
Love this song! One of my favorite songs of this era!
Thank you for this Enlightening analysis of the Legend
