They called themselves Hear ‘N Aid and the song is Stars. The world lost an enormous talent and a good person when he died. Check out the video for Stars. This song is sung to a priest or minister who is earnest but caught in the lies and trappings of religion, in hopes that he reconsiders his life choices. The "tiger" as sung by Dio is a symbol for actual truth. This explanation is supported by the album cover as well.

@@kevintheneck Ronnie James Dio joined Black Sabbath in 1979, they put out two studio albums and one live album. Dio left the band in 1982. He rejoined Black Sabbath in the early 90s, they made one album then he left again.
Around 2006 the record company put out a Black Sabbath greatest hits the Dio years album. Dio, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler wrote three new songs for that greatest hits album. They went out on tour to support the album and toured under the name Heaven and Hell instead of Black Sabbath.
Heaven and Hell put out one studio album and two live albums and two live DVDs before Dios passing in 2010.
and it was sharon osbourne who recommended dio after ozzy was fired for excessive drinking.

I have to add that Dio had a lot more than a few great bangers. He had a long and fantastic career stretching over several bands with an amazing number of great songs. This is a stupendously deep rabbit hole to dive into.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Ronnie James Dio had the best voice in metal. Last in line, Heaven and Hell, Children of the Sea are some of the best songs ever.
Dio was quite possibly the mest metal vocalist ever. Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden is way up there, too.
Ronnie James Dio was so good that in his 70th year alive, he won the Golden God award for best metal vocalist, and Satan had to pry him from the earth himself so someone else could have a shot at it the following year.

This song is from a time before Metal fragmented into the different flavors that exist today & his influence on ALL the genre has been IMMENSE. EVERYONE for the last 30 years wanted to be Ronnie James Dio. He isn't just a Metal Idol, Dio is a Metal GOD.

Every Dio song is special and great. From any band he was in. Whether it be Dio, Sabbath, Rainbow, Elf, or his old r&b/do wop music.
Great reaction as usual Leo!! I was fortunate enough to see Dio perform live along with Motorhead at a show; both acts opened for Iron Maiden. This was about 10 years ago. RIP Rodney Dio. I always knew he was a small dude - but seeing him live really put that in perspective and gave me a new appreciation for just how tiny he was to have that much soul and power in his voice.
He also replaced Ozzy as the vocalist for Black Sabbath and also was singer in Rainbow. His discography is huge. Any song from there is worth checking out.

It's interesting how many "metal/hard rock" singers like Ronnie James Dio, Ozzy Osbourne, Chris Cornell, etc. are really just soul singers. Also note how often the music they sang to had at least a little bit of a funk edge to it. Lovin the fringe, Mr. V! 😍

Killswitch Engage did a beast cover of this song, pretty faithful to this version but they threw some hot sauce in a few spots with the campiest, cheesy video to add to the effect
I swear man! You take singing lessons, and you will be amazing! Your intuition on catching the tones people sing and your intuitive use of your voice... DAMN! Just, promise me you will seek out a voice coach, I don't care what genre of music you want to make yourself, you could be great man. Rarely you hear a natural listener and singer in ONE. Please, please, PLEASE promise me you will do something with this. You deserve it, and you will be happy to develop that part of yourself. It deepends your bond with music and helps you to express yourself over your own music in time. Much love from the Netherlands man!
