Yeah, this song was recorded during the golden age of audio dynamics. So many fantastically produced and mastered albums throughout the 70s and 80s.

These guys are true music critics, no bias, no preconceived misconceptions, just guys who appreciate music for what it is. To me metal is a release, because the musicians want to get as much emotion out as the listeners, and these guys recognize that because they know talent when they see it. Ronnie James Dio was one of a kind, a true performer and unshakable believer in metal. He did some great work with Rainbow, such as Man of the Silver Mountain, then with Black Sabbath, with songs like Heaven and Hell. His solo stuff has highlights like Last In Line and Rainbow in the Dark.

In response to 75bbrown: They are a very different band. Dio's lyric writing and delivery were such a powerful force that those two records stand as kind of their own thing. I still say that Heaven and Hell is one of the great albums of that era.

Vivian Campell is so underrated. His solo's (and ALL the guitar work) on this album are great. I had an instructional video of him years ago, and his playing blew me away, he was my favorite guitar player for a long time after seeing that. The 'Last In Line' main clean guitar part is so damn good. Also that song has one of my favorite solos ever.

interesting note about ronnie james dio, other than his powerful voice. Have you guys seen where people hold their hand up with their pointing finger and little finger up and the two middle fingers held down by the thumb , dio started that, for real. It came from his grandma (highly superstitious) it was meant to ward of evil spirits, now it's like the international symbol of rock n roll.

A couple of fun things about that song:
    1. That album is actually considered one of the best produced metal albums. What you guys heard is the original from 1983. It STILL holds up!
    2. The chord progression in Holy Diver and Eye of the Tiger are extremely similar. My band used to cover Holy Diver and it was really easy to switch from that to Eye of the Tiger because they're both in the same key.
Great video! If you want another song with Ronnie James Dio, check out Stargazer from Rainbow. The vocals will blow your mind!

Guys, I'm enjoying your videos and will definitely watch more! I watched your review of Jonny Cash, "Hurt" first. Honestly, I watched it because I wanted to see how two African-American men responded to a rock song turned country/americana track. I loved how you broke down the meaning of the verses, the relatability, and your personal feelings. I love that you didn't do that with "Holy Diver," as its meaning is far more obscure and objective. I'm going to recommend your videos to my friends. As far as myself, I'm a white male in his 40s who also tries to approach unfamiliar music without bias, and I live for these moments when lines blur, cultures collide, colors and backgrounds melt away, and we all just enjoy a great song.

Since you like Dio and Black Sabbath, stands to reason you should listen to a song where Dio sings for Black Sabbath (he replaced Ozzy Osbourne for a while). "Heaven and Hell" is the most well known song he did with Sabbath. If you want more from Dio's solo career, "Rainbow in the Dark" has a similar sound to this one and is very popular.
