      @seanswinton6242 Месяц назад +1

      Exactly. I remember seeing them at a New Music Seminar in NY just before this album was about to be released. Then, Living Colour visited my university at played a show at our main campus ballroom. Great guys and great band. They were ahead of their time and got drowned by Grunge. I worked at a music store when this was released. It was a huge seller.

    • @purplebeard1526
      @purplebeard1526 Месяц назад

      @@seanswinton6242 Hmmm, IDK about being drowned out by grunge. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Living_Colour_discography I had to go back to their album dates for a minute. '88 with Vivid was a breakthrough with all kinds of sounds. 2 years later they put together a no less diversified but more socially conscious Time's Up. Times Up just didn't have that mega hit like Cult was. 93's Stain, for anyone that wasn't a true fan via the fist two albums, was a very experimental album with little pop appeal. It was so "against type" of the first two that along with the change to grunge/alternative going on at that time, it couldn't make a lot of headway. Hell, it took them 10 years to put out Collideoscope (2003). By then, you had to dig to find out if they had a new album out. The Chair in the Doorway in '09 was pretty good. Shade from 2017 is pretty solid as well.

    So glad this very much underrated band is getting more airtime on Rob Squad. I have a terrible memory, so please excuse if I;ve said this before. There is something deeper in these lyrics that call out to natives of any land, in our case Native Americans, which includes Jordan (no disrespect Amber, love you). And Im going to throw in a well needed edit here I should have made the first time. Loving our fellow human and even ourself, is about recognizing what EVERYONE of us bring to the table. We ALL have something to offer. And that is part of it. Loving a land and being proud of ancestral ties is NEVER a disrespect to anyone. Its just a celebration of people connected to a land, that EVERYONE is welcome to celebrate. Im not Australian, but when I listen to that Midnight Oil videos, something about seeing those kids touches my heart. Anyways, back to to the topic... Rob Squad Reactions, please play this some (with lyrics) some day.... ruclips.net/video/vIUke0CCvDs/видео.html

    Corey Glover is one of my favorite male singers because of the amount of personality he always pushes out there through his voice, and for the lyrics in this song, the man knew just what to do. I also really love the bass in this song, Muzz Skillings is my hero and my reason for picking up a bass guitar to learn. This song is pretty tame for him, the song "Time's Up" is where he and the guitarist (Vernon Reid) become absolute monsters. William Calhoun (drums) is a beast too. Great example of him slamming it down nice and loud would be the song "Type". "Time's Up" is basically the title track for the 1990 album under the same name. Their finest work and the absolute pinnacle of music in my opinion. Another awesome song to check that plays around with a blend of genres in one go is "Elvis is Dead". I've never danced and headbanged so hard to a slng before 😅

    Corey Glover was great in Platoon as Francis. He doesn’t die but self inflicts a stab wound in his leg at the end of their last battle and he and Charlie Sheen fly off together knowing they’re out of the war since they were both wounded twice. As good as an actor he is a superior front man and singer. Why they never exploded in popularity as a group I’ll never understand. The band and the singer are incredible. There are more songs to check out. Keep up the great work. You may not realize the impact you have on your fans. It’s a daily listen for me. If you haven’t reviewed Platoon you should. Those first two albums- Vivid and Times Up! are some of the greatest rock albums ever created, Stain is much darker but no less rockin'- heck, all of their albums are fantastic. Vernon Reid is one of the very best guitarists who ever slung a six-string, Corey Glover's voice is perfectly matched to this band's style, Doug Wimbish is a devastatingly awesome bassist, and both Muzz Skillings and Will Calhoun provide a tremendous percussion beat. Genius track. Fun Fact : as mentioned previously, Corey (vocals) was in the movie Platoon and he was the first one to get killed, as was the way in those days!

    I saw them live in the late 80s and really enjoyed their music. They didn't have an aggressive album release schedule compared to many bands, and fell apart in the mid-90s while trying (and failing) to record their 4th album. I didn't realize that the band reformed and has been producing new material for two decades, but the material has failed to chart and music tastes have changed. But after reviewing some just a few minutes ago... I've got to deep dive the albums I've missed.

    One of the greatest debut albums of all time. Without Living Colour, you don’t get Rage, or Korn… Corey Glover is an amazing singer.

    By FAR their best song, way better than Coat of Personality! This is on all of my playlists.

    And they are still touring. Playing newer material & older hits (saw them in February) but they were as awesome as they look. My favorite song by them is Nothingness, very ethereal.

    “Elvis is Dead” from the same album would be a great reaction video FYI. And the drummer is the mighty Wil Calhoun. One of the finest over the past 30-35 years. Formally trained and can rip it up playing Jazz too. Good catch Amber. He is worth the acknowledgment.

    People who were there at the time knew... Living Colour were *the* band. They did it all, and they did it all *so* damn well. The album this is from. "Time's Up", is chock full of killer tracks from across to musical spectrum.

    Hey J and Amber!! You bring such light and joy into the day for me and for all who watch your sweet reactions! So, listen to, "Glamor Boys" picturing yourselves on a tropical beach, living out a wonderful, sunny, cloudless, blue sky day. You both have an amazing tropical drink in hand, under a cabana, with the warm ocean breeze all around, palm trees swaying. Glamor Boys, with the steel drums, marimbas and guitars put me in that state of mind everytime! God Bless You both!!

    A guy I played in a band with a few years ago (himself a very good songwriter and guitarist) said that Living Colour is one of his favourite bands. Listening to this for the first time I now see why he said that.
