As part of your journey, you really should watch some of the footage of the PMRC hearings, especially Dee Snider's testimony. One of the greatest moments in American music history is Dee Snider, John Denver, Frank Zappa and others. standing up for musicians rights of expression. It was glorious. And I can't remember if it was the main driving factor, but I know 2 Live Crew won their court case (an album had been banned, I believe) which the PMRC was also involved in.
There is a link for it, Al Gore and his wife Tipper were part of that, it was a thing of beauty that Dee smite them all... LOL ruclips.net/video/S0Vyr1TylTE/видео.html here's the link to that. =D
They’re not that deep.
ruclips.net/video/x00f4nok7IY/видео.html the truth
Yes Dee is actually a very intelligent man and truly outshined every other artist that were a part of those hearings.
Starring Tipper Gore………it was great!
You really need to do their biggest hit single “We’re not gonna to take it” next. One of my favourite songs of the early 80’s.
I also recommend the stripped down version Dee Snider did for cancer awareness. It made me cry. 😢
Yes!
@@meld5234 the stripped down version is very different but just as good.
I love we're not gonna take it as well as their version of leader of the pack.
Or their Christmas Album
This is Dee Snider, lead singer, front man and songwriter for Twisted Sister. BRAVO! Welcome to our world! THIS is why the 80's metal lives on. It's fun, passionate and filled with "the middle finger factor". Everything missing from a lot of today's music (and I love new metal bands). This is why you still hear it on shows like Cobra Kai and Peacemaker, and it is a go to at all sporting events. This is why my syndicated radio show "House of Hair" has been on for more than 26 years. FYI "I Wanna Rock" was our 2nd single and the video was the sequel to our first single and video "We're Not Gonna Take It". so you know what you gotta do next!
Awesome to hear from you Dee! Keep rockin!
How does this only have 13 thumbs up? Rock on Dee!
Love you Dee
Hey.. You still owe me an interview... Everything was set up and waiting at WCWP but your wife went into labor and no one called us to let us know you weren't coming... YEARS later, I meet Jessie who is going to school there, I shook his hand and quietly said, "I know who you are young man... Your dad and your uncle Mark are legends inside these walls.."
So cool that you tuned in and commented. Been listening to you since the beginning. Love you Dee!
Our 80s band delivered again!!! So blessed to be a teenager in the 80s!!
You may have heard their song 'We're Not Gonna Take It' which was their biggest hit.
Lead singer is Dee Snider.
The actor that played the teacher is the guy who played Neidermeyer in the movie Animal House.
Amber headbanging hard. I think she's ready for a mosh pit. 🤣
The guy that sprays him in the face is also from Animal House . I think his name was Flounder....could be wrong on that one. John Belushi is one of the main characters. He was one of the Blues Brothers
@@jeraldbennett9289 You're right. Stephen Furst played Flounder.
@@jeraldbennett9289 Yes, that was Stephen Furst who played Kent Doorfman AKA Flounder in Animal House. The spray bottle is a play on the scene at the end of Animal house when Flounder is about to spray Neidermeyer with a seltzer bottle, and Neidermeyer shoots the glass bottle, then takes aim on Flounder, only to be swept up by a giant hand from one of the Homecoming floats.
I like that song and video a lot better!
For Twisted Sister, I think their stage persona was exactly that...a persona. The lead singer Dee Snider is probably one of the most down to earth nice guys in rock, on par with Dave Grohl IMHO.
He was also pretty intelligent.
@@judydonaghue-staubs6890 he had a PhD in something or another. But that’s not terribly uncommon in rock bands.
Also a very big fella. 3 gallon lungs. No doubt he can push a note for a bit. Forgot how good this was. Many others were on my Walkman on a regular basis.
Dee Snider signed on with Napalm Records. I just happened to find his newer stuff back in December
His feuding with Paul Stanley is epic 🤣
Dee Snider even wrote a Christmas song for Céline Dion, that went on to sell a gazillion copies. That's how incredibly versatile a talent he is.
Also, Twisted Sister was a big influence on Public Enemy. Chuck D said he had seen them when they were just a club band in NY and their angry, anti-establishment protest rock was part of what inspired the formation of PE. He even covered their song "Wake Up" for a TS tribute album sometime in the mid-late 90s.
Should hear their version of Hark The herald angels sing
In 1985, Dee Snider was involved in a Senate hearing instigated by the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC), which sought to introduce a parental warning system that would label all albums containing what they considered offensive material. The guy was pretty smart apparently too.
Twisted Sister has a whole Christmas album out
There was a million of us pumping our fists to this song....with about two million parents telling us to turn it down
Another great rocker from the 80s
The lead singer Dee Snyder ended up in front of congress to "explain" some of his song lyrics during the time period before warning labels. He showed up in jeans and t-shirt, pulled out a folded up set of loose papers and read from them, totaling ripping the senators a new one and reminding them of the concept of freedom of expression.
So did Zappa when Tipper Gore was on her crusade against rock lol.
They didn't expect Dee Snider to be well educated.
Dee left them looking rather foolish. Not THAT is a reaction video I’d love to see!!!
"We're not gonna take it" is their biggest hit. It's video also had references to the movie Animal House, just like this one does. To me their best song is "The Price" a serious song not a novelty type.
Exactly 💯 my favorite song of theirs
Here's the acoustical version that Dee Snider did of that, ruclips.net/video/2-DhlrMqKNk/видео.html
The Price is my favorite too, even if the others are also good
It’s one of the best songs from this era period not just by TS
100% agreed about "We're Not Gonna Take It", Animal House and "The Price" !
You guys got THE lead singer of this band to comment on your reactions below. Bravo!
Twisted Sister was fantastic in concert! Dee gives it his all every song, every time!
ANIMAL HOUSE
The screaming teacher in this video is Mark Metcalf, playing a version of his Doug Niedermayer character from "Animal House."
He also appears as the screaming dad in the "We're Not Gonna Take It" video which was Twisted Sister's first and biggest hit.
And Stephen Furst “Flounder” as the principal
When they were planning the video they said they needed a 'Niedermayer-type' from Animal House, someone suggested looking up the actor to see if he was available...lol. He was.
Also Elaine's boyfriend 'The Maestro' 👍
Mark Metcalf is basically playing his old Animal House Douglas C. Niedermayer character.
Also The Master from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The "teacher" and "principal" were both in Animal House, which you should watch...it helps with this video and getting the inside jokes. Dee Snyder is not only a talented performer/musician, he is also an intelligent man and one of the nicest, most down to earth guys I have met. I met him while I was in the Navy in San Diego, I was in charge of the VIP lounge in the air terminal and we often had celebrities as well as high ranking officers pass through. Most of the celebrities were flying out to one of the carriers to observe carrier operations and meet the crew. He was travelling with one other person (not an entourage) and was very personable. I was checking up on him (to see if he needed anything) and he asked if there was somewhere to catch a bite to eat, I told him the roach coach had just came through but I could get her back if he wanted and he just said that's ok, so I offered to take him to her and he was like cool, let's go. We jumped into my truck and I drove him to her, we talked about mundane stuff on the way and while waiting for food. We talked motorcycles, my job and what he could expect going out to the ship. It was genuinely a great discussion. He signed some stuff for my staff and I told him my Department head was disappointed to have missed him, so he took pictures of himself kicked back, feet up, on my Commanders desk. I had some photo paper and we printed it out and he signed the picture and wrote "Hey Mike, nice f*^%ing desk" Stay Hungry Dee. He also testified at the PMRC hearings (as others have mentioned). Great guy!!
What Twisted Sister is referencing can be found in this scene from the movie Animal House. Mark Metcalf is the actor who plays the role of "Niedermeyer"
ruclips.net/video/0Dy2fo6E_pI/видео.html&ab_channel=Movieclips
FLOUNDER!!!!
Yeah, I noticed you guys are reacting to movies starting with the basic/classics, so "Animal House" should definitely be on that list.
Oh yeah - you gotta see ANIMAL HOUSE!
mark metcalf was also in oscar
"The Price" and "The Beast" is totally underrated in my book. Awesome song. If you can only listen to one of those though pick "The Price" The lyrics are fantastic.
Lead singer Dee Snider trained in opera when he was young and that’s why his voice and command of the lyrics is so strong. He is also the narrator for the series Breaking The Band on Reelz channel and even did his own story on the breakup of Twisted Sister.
Twisted Sister used the character actor and gimmick of the teacher in the music video of I wanna Rock from National Lampoon's Animal House and the teacher who is acting that way was a Drill instructor that was in the R.O.T.C program for the college campus that used his performance from Animal House in the Twisted Sister music videos. He is featured in both I wanna Rock and We're not going to take it as the extreme authoritive rigid antagonist in both music videos. The Actor is Mark Metcalf. He played Needlemyer in Animal House. The principal in the Music video was also in Animal House and his name was Flounder cuz he was a new pledge in the Delta House Fraternity in the movie.
RIP Flounder. Thanks for the much needed laughs.
The teacher was also in the Buffy TV series as The Master
"Now drop and give me 20"
Y'all should really respond to Dee Snider's testimony before Congress!!! He was brilliant and so articulate. He pretty much shut down the people who were saying that rock music was evil.
Yes!!!!
Facts. He was the smartest guy in the room...
Cinderella also poked fun at Tipper Gore in their song Shelter Me
Oh for sure. His testimony was brilliant. Since it was Tipper Gore that lead the charge with this. When it came to the questioning some asked about song lyrics thought to be about S&M Dee said something to the effect of those lyric have nothing to do with S&M and if that's is what Mrs.Gore heard that should say more about where Her mind is at than they lyrics to our music.
Daniel "Dee" Snider lives here on Long Island with his wife Suzette and family. His brother Mark was responsible for the "Rock N Roll Weekend" on my radio station WCWP at CW Post and singlehandedly saved Rock N Roll as a format here on the island...
We're not gonna take it! Listen to it.
Twisted Sister's big hit was "We're Not Gonna Take It."
Love the video to that one also
I agree. The video for "We're Not Gonna Take It" is so much fun!
That's not a song...That's an anthem
U nailed it...we just had fun! This is why I say I feel sorry for anyone who didn't grow up in the 80's. We literally!!! just wanted to rock!!! 🤟
still miss the 80's the decade of decadence
@@sparkyth67 it will never be repeated
@@missshirley9893 unfortunately 😕
Though I really don't want those big hip/narrow leg jeans back. Hated those things. Lol
Yes we did!!
great video and another fun song, "We're Not Gonna Take It" from TS. lots of fun.
You guys REALLY need to give a listen to the man who made all these "character" rock bands possible - ALICE COOPER.
p.s. I love TS, btw!
I agree. I love Alice Cooper he has so many amazing songs. But I've never seen any reactions to his music which is frustrating.
@@labyfan1313 Wilburn reactions did the whole Killer album within the last week!
Poison and Feed My Frankenstein ooooo
@@labyfan1313 I have mentioned Alice Cooper in many comments, especially "Schools Out". Being teachers you'd think they might wanna hear that one.
@@nolanzeigler3781 Nah Dude. The REAL Alice Cooper. School's Out - Under My Wheels - NO MORE MR. NICE GUY! - Then should follow up with Only Women Bleed.
Others have mentioned it, but “We’re Not Gonna Take It” has to be your next Twisted Sister video. Like this one, the video is much more than a concert performance of the song.
They have to watch Animal House first
I was born in 1962 and must say i grew up with the some of the best 70's n 80's rock bands ever... and as far as the teacher touching that kid.. back then if your parents didnt disipline you the Teachers would without repercussions...it was the way it was in those days..
The butterfly causing that explosion is hilarious! LOL And yes, this was quite the
anthem back in the day! lol
OMG - Amber - Jordan - please please PLEASE do the official video for We're Not Gonna Take It - the extended version for the FULL effect. It is classic Twisted Sister - and an absolute MUST. The song is just a rock anthem unto itself - and the video it just it's own entity. You'll both LOVE it - I promise!! It's HILARIOUS! And THIS video will make a lot more sense once you see the other one.
Yes yes yes yes
I got to sit with these guys on an airplane going from Toronto to Chicago. They were all excellent people. Non drinker, non druggies. Just a bunch of great guys.
I was lucky enough to experience them in Korea. They came on USO tour. They rocked it out!!
Dee presented to Congress many years ago. The PMRC we’re trying to shut down a lot of artists and Dee spoke on behalf of them. He put on a helluva show. Go check that video out.
Dee Snider is one of the greatest frontmen in the history of rock, not to mention a legend / savior of the music industry. There is nothing not to love about him, or Twisted Sister.
This was the second track of theirs that hit. The first was We're Not Gonna Take It.
The actor is Mark Metcalf as his character Douglas C. Niedermeyer from the movie Animal House. He also appears in We're Not Gonna Take It. Both videos were heavily inspired by Road Runner cartoons.
The guy spraying Metcalf with the seltzer was Stephen Furst who was Kent "Flounder" Dorfman in Animal House.
Niedermeyer was always sticking his nose in!
The actor that plays the teacher is amazing. Hes in not gonna take it and plays it perfectly.
It was the 80's Everybody liked everybody. Everybody partied together and the Bands jammed. We had cool Cars and the Ladies took time to look amazing.
True story: Back in the day we were watching a TS concert on VHS at a buddy's house, and his good-ol'-boy farmer dad walked through the living room while this song was playing at the point where Dee was repeating I WANNA ROCK over and over, and his dad said "For Christ's sake, somebody throw that guy a rock!"
Omg that’s hysterical!😅
LOL. Dad jokes.
Being a country boy myself and reading this I almost split a gut laughing it sounds just like my old man!! LOL my God LOL
Their song "The Price" is a beautiful rock ballad, perfect for when you need a little determination to keep going. Dee Snider has a great voice; their Christmas album is fun, too.
As far as their Christmas album, obviously, they should react to songs from that when Christmas rolls back around, but my first suggestion to reacting to songs from their Christmas, the first one that they should react to is "Heacy Metal Christmas"
Yessssss! I love “The Price!”
I love the 80's and the days of event videos like this..."We're Not Gonna Take It" is another great official video. These kinds of videos are what MTV was created for!
I saw twisted sister in small light clubs in white plains new york. They played loud to cover up mistakes but no one cared.....they rocked. So much rock and fun !!!!
The teacher is played by Mark Metcalf, inspired by his character Niedermayer from Animal House. I've met him and he's a nice guy who initially left acting 20 years ago as he no longer wanted to play villains and that all he was being offered. He has since largely done local theater in the towns he's lived in and the occasional TV or film role.
He was also The Maestro!!!
@@edwardsolomon3305 and the Master from Buffy
If you guys like Twisted Sister you gotta check out "We're Not Gonna Take It"
Also "Burn In Hell" is a good one too
DEE SNIDER is a Legend, talent integrity and very smart. :-) :-)
In order to understand the ending of the video with Stephen "Flounder" Furst dowsing Mark "Neidermeyer" Metcalf with carbonated soda water, you have to watch the movie "Animal House".
You should also watch the Dee destroy Tipper Gore in the 1980s hearings.
Dude came prepared and gave one of the best burns ever of future VP Al Gore's wife
It's so Orwellian how things have completely flipped. Today it's the Conservatives censoring expression.

What about Joe Rogan? A very liberal man they're trying to cancel?
What about Bill Maher calling out the left all the time for censorship?

Honestly, this is the most Cornerstone heavy metal band. In the 80’s Congress had a full court press on music. These guys testified in front of Congress. We all own the respect for the fight they fought for us to be able to listen to music as an art form.
Time for a similar fight comedians and for the rest of us
Yes this style was commonly known as "Hair Metal". But it was also sometimes called "Glam Metal" because of the over the top style of not just the hair, but the overall costumes and makeup and such.
I love that you’re rocking out to the music of my youth, so many amazing artists of the 80’s.
They don't make em like that anymore... Twisted Sister will forever be one of the greatest things ever... The 80's were a magical time to be a kid, and I miss it every day...
I hear that
Should do a reaction video of Triumph. Do one from the US Festival 83! It's LIVE and great! Every song! Songs- "Lay It On The Line", "Fight The Good Fight", "Magic Power", plus many more... GUARANTEED you'll love it! 3 piece band. TRIUMPH 🤘
I couldn’t agree with you more.
Yes let's hype up Triumph cause they will love them and Triumph has a huge catalogue of great music.
“I live for the weekend” really rocks by them. Great Canadian Band!
Twisted Sister used to play local venues on Long Island where I saw them in the mid-1970's. They gave a helluva good show.
I’m 57 most of my teachers were like this. That’s why my generation has respect.
Thank you friends so much for helping me relive my childhood during these nutty times lol 🤟 Also schools in the 80s were very different when it came to discipline 😅
"We're not Gonna take it" this is the must hear and see Twisted Sister Song! This video would have made more sense it you watched it first.
They have MUCH better songs.
They’re glam metal. Great songs, great melodies to sing along to.
80s metal ROCKS! Thanks for doing what you do !
They have one of the best and underrated hype songs in "Stay Hunger". Worth the look IMHO
Dee Snider has AMAZING vocal abilities. Some of his best are on "Come Out And Play" which is a fantastic album!
Only album of their's I owned back then!
don't be afraid... of things that go bump... in the night.
I liked "The Price". That song showed his range. ...Have't pulled out "Stay Hungary" in a while..a long while..it is time to give it a listen again...it aught to take me back.
Just so you know, the video started out with a guy from Animal House where he played a ROTC commander that was always causing trouble for the Animal House guys. At the end, one of the guys from Animal House that was bullied shot water in the guys face. So that movie theme played a big role in Dee Snider a video.
Twisted Sister loved making almost cartoonish comedic videos for their songs. The ones that stand out to me are We're not gonna take it, be crool to your skool (with Alice Cooper) and their cover of Leader of the pack.
PMRC footage. He's very intelligent, and rips the panel. Legendary. Please check it out. Shows up as a rocker and kills it. I lived through it
This album came out when I was in Jr. High, and I was an instant fan!! Twisted Sister and Quiet Riot were my favorites of that era, which was before all the other hair bands of the late 80's came out.
Their "We're Not Gonna Take It" has a fun video, same actor who is the teacher here. Describes how everyone feels at some point ! :(
I heard when Twisted Sister first came out that Dee Snyder was an inspiring classical singer but chose to take a completely different direction, Rock and Roll. Thanks for making the rock decision. 🤘

Y'all should check out these other Twisted Sister songs:
Stay Hungry
The Price
We're Not Gonna Take It

@@demonhoopa,
There's no need to replace it. It's a great anthem. Just add those.
The teacher's character is from the movie Animal House w/John Belushi. Classic film if you haven't seen or heard about it.
Yes, Dee Snider (lead singer) has incredible diction. The second big song from that album is "We're Not Gonna Take It."
The teacher was from the movie Animal House. His character's name was Nedermier. The principal at the end also in Animal House was known as Flounder. Both used lines from the movie.
Jay you're gonna love these guys. To both of you their videos are almost always entertaining. These guys definitely had the hair and makeup.
Sweet. I don't think I've seen many reaction channels do Twisted Sister. This right here is truly one of the best hair bands. And when you listen to them you must watch the videos. Surely though you've heard the song We're Not Gonna Take It.
Their song, "We're Not Gonna Take It" was used as background music in a compilation of videos of the Canadian trucker convoy, and it was so fitting. Do that song next!
The actor playing the teacher is Mark Metcalf. He appears in a similar role in Twisted Sister's video for "We're Not Gonna Take It." These parts are based on him playing Neidermeyer in the movie Animal House--in which he was a similarly obnoxious, authoritarian ROTC guy always at odds with the oddball party guys from the Delta House. In the videos for their lighthearted songs like "I Wanna Rock" and "We're Not Gonna Take It," Dee Snider and Twisted Sister are basically saying that they are the oddball party guy animal house of Rock and Roll.
I’ve seen Twisted Sister in concert, best show ever!! It was back in 2006 and they released a Christmas album and Dee Snyder came out all in his 80s make up and clothes and also in a Santa costume! It was awesome! Listen to We’re Not Gonna Take it
Twisted sister isn’t really a hair band. They predate that by 10 years. They were from the New York mid 70s scene along side Kiss.
What is now called “hair metal” came out of Los Angeles in the 80s.
Hair band doesn’t just mean long hair.
They were more along the lines of the New York Dolls as opposed to KISS in their stage aesthetic.
@@bodynhand I meant they were part of the same scene. Literally. Jay Jay French even tried out for Kiss.
But yes I agree with your observation
The teacher is a protagonist in the movie "Animal House" featuring John Belushi. The Principal at the end was legacy pledge in the same movie.
Graduated HS in 83- this music gave me a pulse. Suggest Come Out & Play & You Can’t Stop Rock & Roll. React to Live - Dee & the boys Did Not Play. Discounted for looks- but crush it live… still
The lead singer with all the blonde hair is Dee Snider, a metalhead and true believer in Rock and Roll. He has gone to courts and before Congress to defend popular music and artistic freedoms. He still has a syndicated metal show that broadcasts in almost all major markets. It's too bad Twisted Sister didn't do better than they did. Often people confuse them with Quiet Riot, who had a similar sound. But Twisted Sister are the ones whose videos pay homage to the movie Animal House.
😁 Back in the '80s (and '70s) teachers had the legal right to physically discipline students. As did the principals. Memories.😄

"We're not gonna take it" is another great hit from Twisted Sister
Man, such fond personal memories from that Glorious and magnificent decade?!? Such a great tune/anthem from their breakthrough album “Stay Hungry” in ‘84. This one followed their first single/video “We’re Not Gonna Take It”, which is definitely highly recommended as well. They came from the NYC/New Jersey scene starting in the early 70s, nearly 10 years before MTV came along and changed the game overnight! RIP AJ Pirro, their drummer who tragically passed not long ago ❤️
Well you gotta do ‘We’re Not Going to Take It’ by Twisted Sister now!
The ‘80’s was the age of MTV and music videos, so there was a lot of production to these videos including non musical intros and some minor plot development/storytelling in some some of them. Thriller would be another example a music video with some acting in it
The teacher at the beginning is an actor who is basically reprising his most well known role, that of the very smarmy and self important guy you love to hate, Neidermeyer, from the famous movie National Lampoon's Animal House. He's even paraphrasing some of his best known lines. He also starts off Twisted Sister's other big hit video We're Not Gonna Take It, doing the exact same character thing, except in that video he's playing the dad. At the end of this video you saw another character from Animal House, Flounder, that Neidermeyer had terrorized mercilessly, who squirts him in the face saying one of his best known lines "Oh boy, is this great!"
The song that taught us how to bang our heads. Impossible to sit still and not bang your head.
I had a bus driver named 'Crash' the played Twisted Sister while driving. We were far less rowdy with him driving. We respected him.
I saw these guys 40yrs ago. Saw them again from the "40 & F#$+ It" tour.
My all time favorite song by these guys is Captain Howdy
Other song titles include
Live to Ride
The Price
Stay Hungry was an incredible album
I don't know, if I've heard the song, but I remember him as Captain Howdy in "Strangeland", which probably has the song in it.

Something to keep in mind when watching music videos from the 1980's and 1990's, a lot more so than today's music videos. They were almost like miniature movies much of the time. Twisted Sister videos were an excellent example of this. Many of Cindy Lauper's music videos are like that too (the video from [The Goonies Are] Good Enough is an excellent example as well). So when you see a music video that starts with a little sketch ("I Wanna Rock" and "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister, "[The Goonies Are] Good Enough" by Cindy Lauper, "Black Or White" by Michael Jackson, etc) it doesn't necessarily mean that it was a part of a movie or TV show. It was just the style of the time.
Me and my brother have been laughing at the horse's heart attack in Animal House for uncounted years. Also, "We're Not Gonna Take It" is, has been, and always will be chosen by people for at least one of their funeral songs. Remember "You fu**ed up, you trusted us..."
I'm seeing it a lot below, but "We're Not Gonna Take It" is probably the biggest hit Twisted Sister had.
I'd also like to suggest you guys listen to Alice Cooper at some point. "Poison" is my favorite, but he's got a lot of other great songs like "School's Out", "Eighteen", "Welcome to My Nightmare". Alice was known for putting on elaborate stage shows with things like guillotines, straight jackets, and other shocking types of things. Pretty sure Alice is still touring at almost 75 years old.
One of hair metals best absolute best Dee Snyder the lead singer does a lot of charity work really great guy I believe they still perform
You really gotta watch Twisted Sister "Time after time "...official video...it's a tear jerker with an amazing message
