A little backstory about this video: the dad is played by actor Mark Metcalf who also played overbearing loud-mouthed ROTC leader Doug Neidermeyer in the movie Animal House. His antics in this video were taken from his role in that movie (in the movie he tormented a character named "Flounder" by yelling at him "A PLEDGE PIN?!?!?" whereas here he tormented his son in the same way "A TWISTED SISTER PIN?!?!?") edit: Metcalf also appeared in Twisted Sister's video "I Wanna Rock", also as an overbearing loudmouth, except this time he is a school teacher
A big part of why Mark Metcalf appears in this video and the video for "I Wanna Rock," which also features Stephen Furst, who played Flounder in "Animal House," is because lead vocalist, Dee Snider is a major fan of that particular movie
There is a great version that Dee Snider did for Childrens cancer relief. It's a stripped down version 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 Dee is legendary when he got up in front of congress and made them look like idiots. They weren't prepared for him 😂
The guy who played the farther in the video is the same guy who played the ROTC leader Doug Neidermeyer(Mark Metcalf) in the movie National Lampoons "Animal House".
The one thing I never understood was why there would be ROTC in college in the movie, ROTC is only high school, by college age you just join the military as in west point or such.
@@up0820high school has JROTC, the Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps. The college version is the Reserve Officer's Training Corps. The Military Acadamies, (West Point, Annapolis, and Colorado Springs), are extremely selective, and require military service from all attendees, upon graduation. Ordinary colleges have ROTC units, which also result in the cadets graduating with a commission in the military, but without the social standing of having attended one of the Service Academies.
Dee Snider might look like a cross between Bette Midler and Hulk Hogan, but he's a very intelligent guy. When Tipper Gore (wife of former vice-president Al Gore) started to introduce censorship by founding the whole PMRC thing, Snider had a hearing in front of a congressional committee and he outclassed everyone in the room. The recording of that hearing can be found on youtube, it's worth listening to. This song is an absolute anthem of rebellion for everyone who had to tolerate hyper-conservative abusive and restricting boomer parents in those years.
Yes, that is indeed Dee Snider's own hair - and at the age of 68, turning 69 on March 15th, he still retains it in all its curly glory, and the same goes for his exceptionally muscled body, the gym and exercise enthusiast that he is. The legendary Twisted Sister belonged to the same 70s New York scene that gave birth to the New York Dolls and Kiss, but Twisted Sister had to struggle longer before they got a record deal, despite their colossal regional popularity - their fanclub boasting over 20 000 members. Their saving grace was the UK. Twisted Sister were at the very end of their rope and almost didn't manage to scrape together the money for plane tickets when they received an offer to come and play in the UK. Paired together with Motörhead, their extreme glam metal outfits making them appear like the worst thing imaginable to the working class crowd of the former band. (Coincidentally, the band bought their stage clothes in a shop catering to overweight women.) But the late great Lemmy of Motörhead began by addressing the crowd: "These guys are my friends, and they're great - so give them a chance." The crowd did, to be immediately overwelmed by the absolutely amazing live act that was Twisted Sister. They got their record deal, and between 1982 and 1985 were to release four albums with this, their classic lineup: Dee Snider on vocals (and 100 % of the songwriting), Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda on guitar, Mark Mendoza on bass and AJ Pero on drums. The most successful of these albums was the third, "Stay hungry", released in 1984 and producing Twisted Sister's two signature hits: "We're not gonna take it" and "I wanna rock". Hilariously, producer Tom Werman tried very hard to persuade the band to leave those very songs off the album, claiming "We're not gonna take it" sounded like a nursery rhyme and "I wanna rock" sounded like a leftover Molly Hatchet song. Dee Snider, however, as always did things his own way, and the "Stay hungry" album became a multi-million international bestseller because of it. The mean dad appearing in this video is based on Dee Snider's own father - who unbelievably enough regarded this portrayal of himself as a compliment. Actor Mark Metcalf was chosen because Dee Snider imagined this was just how Metcalf's character from the "Animal house" movie, Douglas C. Neidermeyer, would be like as a family man. That's why he's referred to as "Douglas C." in the video. Metcalf reprised his part, of sorts, in the "I wanna rock" video, but portraying a mean teacher that time. In 1985 Twisted Sister's career took a turn for the worse, when the next album "Come out and play" was deemed to not have the same bite as its predecessor and the response to its lead-off single, a cover of the Shangri-Las classic "Leader of the pack", was overwhelmingly negative. AJ Pero left the band and after one more album - on which Twisted Sister scrapped their whole glam metal image - the band folded entirely. Dee Snider was still fondly remembered and admired for his senate hearing in 1985 (available on RUclips), speaking out against censorship on music and other entertainment after the newly formed Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) had singled out Twisted Sister, among others, as being a particularly harmful influence to young people. Snider gave his accusers a nasty shock, them not expecting him to be the amazingly intelligent and eloquent man he was and is (as well as a devout Christian and a family man, to this day happily married to the same woman). Frank Zappa and John Denver appeared at the same hearing, both in support of Snider. Twisted Sister reformed in 2002 as a touring act, but never made another studio album except a bizarre collection of Christmas songs heavy metal style. Snider also made a fortune for writing one of the songs appearing on another artist's Christmas album: Celine Dion. I kid you not. In 2016, Twisted Sister folded for good, at the insistance of Dee Snider himself who said he refused to allow the band to reach a point where the audience would leave the show feeling that it had not been as great as the last time. And drummer AJ Pero's unexpected passing the year before had precipitated the decision. The band's friend, legendary Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, took over sticksman duties for Twisted Sister's last farewell performances. Dee Snider has still remained active as a solo artist - mostly delivering music even more brutal and metallic than Twisted Sister's. However, he recently announced that he may be retiring from music entirely, to focus on other artistic interests such as making movies. He is actually something of a horror movie pioneer, from his now classic 1998 outing "Strangeland", spearheading the subgenre now known as "torture porn" that gained massive success in the mid-00s with the "Saw" and "Hostel" franchises.

About Dee Snider's (the lead singer) hair, I recall an interview on MTV in the 80's someone asked and he said: maybe yes or maybe not. I think it was part of his fun to not answer the question. Part of the legend, I guess. But that was common in the 80's: big hair--and everyone always wanted bigger. Thanks to you & have a nice day. Hope to see all 3 of you reunited soon.
You should really see Dee Snider running roughshod over the Senate hearings on the horrors of rock and roll especially explaining to them this video and dispelling a lot of myths about rock stars. Before Twisted Sister 'sold out' or 'went commercial', they did some good stuff and some great stuff. Easily their best song was their original studio version of "I Am (I'm Me)", from 1983. It's lyrics are extremely encouraging, and self-affirming! Although TS didn't do a music video for that song, it would be amazing to see you ladies react to the studio track (maybe after doing a read-through of it's lyrics? The lead singer, Dee Snider. is actually quite intelligent and well educated. He spoke before congress years ago when they considering legislation to censor music
Dee does A LOT for charities. He still has his motorcycle and goes on date nights with his wife Suzette. --- I'd suggest the video "Hot Love" as a watch...
If I remember correctly , but I might be off. Dee Snider had his hair insured by Loyd’s Of London at one point. Anyway they’re a good live band Dee Snider like Ted Nugent is quite bright & articulate and they don’t drink smoke or do drugs but act like complete crazy people on stage Big 80’s band for awhile
React to TWISTED SISTER the song is "THE PRICE"which is a ballad but its a good song or "I WANNA ROCK"which is what it says it is it's a rock song LOL 😂 Keep up the good work 👍🏻🔥
If you want to see the life of a Rock N' Roll life style check out the song called The Price by Twisted Sister it's about hardship of a Rock band while trying to get noticed and life on the road.
I have a small question. Have any of you seen the 2007 SpongeBob Squarepants movie. Dee helped write a different version of the first song we hear. I'm Gonna Rock. If you have not seen, I am sure that song is on RUclips. Be well ladies and keep on rockin'
The beginning reminds me of my childhood with an evil disgusing stepdad. I guess at that time it was maybe more normal growing up in something like that environment or it was normal to me as i havent known anything else. Scarred me to this day and now im 48. So please try if possible to think about how you talk and treat your children because that shit can follow your child and have serious impact on their life till the day we leave this place. I found my salvation few years back when i started to really getting to know Jesus Christ who is my saviour and has been with me ever since. But i wonder how many around the world who just couldnt turn their life around after something like that but anyway the video gets funny though and i dont want to be a downer🙂

another great songis 'come out and play' which is a homage to 'the warriors' gang film
❤ you guys hope Kathy is cool
Saw them live here in Chicago
And to think, the lead singer actually went to congress to fight against censorship.
ese es un clasico..
That's Dee Snider's real hair and congrats on your blu ribbons at the fair
Thanks
The lead singer, Dee Snider. is actually quite intelligent and well educated. He spoke before congress years ago when they considering legislation to censor music
This is a nod to his role in Animal house as the bad guy needermier.........
The guitar solo is actually 3 different guitars in the studio.
Dee does A LOT for charities. He still has his motorcycle and goes on date nights with his wife Suzette. --- I'd suggest the video "Hot Love" as a watch...
Yes that is his real hair
Awsome reaction to a great song and band. Please do a reaction to Twisted Sister: I Wanna Rock. 😀😃😄😁😊
React to
TWISTED SISTER the song is
"THE PRICE"which is a ballad but its a good song
or "I WANNA ROCK"which is what it says it is it's a rock song LOL 😂
Keep up the good work 👍🏻🔥
5:50 -- YEARS of bleaching and dying Dee's hair took it's toll and he ended up going bald at one point. Took years to grow it back .
If you want to see the life of a Rock N' Roll life style check out the song called The Price by Twisted Sister it's about hardship of a Rock band while trying to get noticed and life on the road.
When you can would watch the video for the song the price from Twisted Sister
I have a small question. Have any of you seen the 2007 SpongeBob Squarepants movie. Dee helped write a different version of the first song we hear. I'm Gonna Rock. If you have not seen, I am sure that song is on RUclips. Be well ladies and keep on rockin'
You should check out Dee Snider’s stripped down version of this song that he did for Chris Angel’s charity. It’s a complete 180 of this version.
Check out Twisted Sister's christmas album!
"I Wanna Rock" next then..
Twisted sister vs quiet riot
Dee Snider, the lead singer, did not cut his hair for over 3 years. It is his real hair.
LOOK UP THE SONG
WHERE'S THE DRESS?
Hi you should check out baby metal give me chocolate.
What you should react to is to Dee Snider in congress
React to rubber biscuit by the Blues Brothers!
💯👍❤️
And LBGQT did not exist back then. It was just fun. :)
You might be right but I think his wife makes all their costumes and I could swear his wife put hair extensions on him
The beginning reminds me of my childhood with an evil disgusing stepdad.
Douglas c.nitamier from animal house
