However a Dutch student did get in trouble for swaffeling the Taj Mahal in 2008 after uploading a video of it to RUclips. And yes we do have an insane amount of swear words. My favourite one is klootviool. It's a compound word of kloot (testicle) and viool (violin) meaning idiot/moron. You can also use it as a verb; klootviolen, which means failing miserably doing a basic task.

Funny thing is that the difference between The Netherlands and Belgium when it comes to swearing is that the Dutch use diseases, while the Belgians use religious words. About the hemp thing, yes multiple uses. We don’t really use nettles anymore for thread and weaving. Flax is an absolutely wonderfull material, not used much either …unfortunately.

Given that "the land of the free" has the largest prison population in the world, housing 1% of the entire population, many for non violent crimes; it would be cheaper to house and educate them. Food for thought. Or not, given the "for-profit" nature of the majority of the establishments.
It is literally the reason why America has such an insanely large prison population. America has 4.4% of the worlds population but 1 in 5 people in prison ON THE ENTIRE EARTH are in prison in America! (21% of the worlds prison population)!

Educated people commit fewer crimes, so you have fewer prisoners, which is cheaper and more tax money can be spent on the regular people. That is the food for though, but you go triggered into low earth orbit. The assumption that a government supporting it's people creates criminals is disproven by the fact that the US has 20% of all prisoners in the world, as one of the wealthiest but the most unequal at the same time. Poverty, a lack of education and lack of opportunity creates crimes. Hence America's high crime rate. Those also shouldn't be pampered but the cost of incarcerating them is enormous, while the US refuses to spend the same on helping its people. That is insane. Go watch the documentary Breaking the Cycle where an American prison warden goes to Norway, to experience their methodology. He is a conservative hardliner.
Hemp disappeared because, after Prohibition was repealed, the guy running the alcohol side (Anslinger at the Narcotics Bureau) was looking for something to do and settled on hemp - even though it was barely grown in the US at the time. It eventually got banned in 1937 although various states had already banned its use (in California, NYC and Texas largely as xenophobic laws targeting Chinese, Mexicans and so on). Indeed, the hemp prohibitionists even went on crusades to stop the Europeans from producing the stuff too. It was a stupid thing to do because, as was pointed out, it's an extremely useful plant.
I don't know what the figures are atm but when I last checked, some years ago, roughly 40% of the entire WORLD's prison population was in America! No other country comes close, even in per capita terms. As Stephen said, no other country in human history, has imprisoned as many of it's own people as the US does! Bear in mind that this includes Stalinist Russia, Nazi Germany, Mao's China and North Korea!
Crikey. Can't remember exactly when this episode came out, but I think at roughly the same time the figure was 25% of the world's prisoners were in the US. Can also recall learning about a particular law in certain states which allowed an alarming amount of private business influence on determining which crimes result in prison, and for how long. Completely coincidentally, those same business use prisoners to make their products... The process was an acronym of a common male name, but can't recall it. Shocking stuff.

QI is an excellent source of strange trivia. It's an entertaining - often hilarious - show but also very educational. Stephen Fry presented the first 13 series (A-M - each series' episodes begin with a different letter of the alphabet). Since then, Sandy Toksvig has presented it - they're up to about series T. As far as hemp is concerned, IIRC the original copy of the US Declaration of Independence was written on hemp paper. BTW - here in New Zealand we have a big trouble with introduced rabbits everywhere.
I know that state universities in Florida get most of their furniture from a company called PRIDE which is Prisoner rehab -- giving prisoners a trade while incarcerated. More than just license plates.
I remember watching a celebrity version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and their 'phone a friend' was Stephen Fry. There was a big knowing laugh at the reveal. A tricky question about literature came up and they phoned Stephen. They asked him like the first three words of the question and he interrupted with the correct answer 'Sense and Sensibility, darling'. The guy is a national treasure and as smart as a guy with two heads.

The reason for the hemp thing is that it was seen as a direct rival for paper sold by logging companies. Put a lot of money into lobbying government and got hemp pretty much banned because of its association with marijuana smoking and a lot of racial epithets that went with it
Hemp is still used for all products mentioned. In the Netherlands hemp is grown to be processed into things like construction plates (housing) and absorption material for horse stables. Only breeds of hemp containing little THC are allowed.

There's a company called Braintree, here in the UK, that makes hemp clothing and accessories (bags, satchels etc.). I've had loads of hemp clothing over the years. Jackets, T shirts, trousers, even socks (it's a very versatile fabric, not unlike linen and pretty hard wearing, but can also be made wool or cotton like). It's pretty good quality stuff. The label is dead cool. Company name and a marijuana leaf motif. They've got a big flagship store in Camden Market.

You're absolutely correct, the prohibition of the plant itself did cause a lot of other stuff to cease existing and hemp is a really good thing to make rope and clothes from, as well as a fairly good protein that doesn't taste like anything at all so if you flavour it it'll just taste like the flavouring. It's the best vegan protein source there is (and if you add some rice protein you have a full worthy protein with high absorption properties). I don't partake in the stuff either but it's a damn shame that we quit using it for all other things that it's great for.
Not sure about the blue crabs, but yes, we have a major problem with the 'American signal crayfish', originally farmed, which is breeding prolifically, & out competing with native species for food etc. A similar thing happened with the grey squirrel, which introduced a virus which killed off nearly all of the native reds. We have also had problems with introducing coypu [ a sort of overgrown, semi-aquatic guinea pig ] and mink as 'farmed' animals for fur. Escapees have caused chaos. Mink slaughter small mammals, & have no real predators, and coypu dig large burrows in riverbanks, which causes major problems. We now have widespread muntjac deer, which is a non-native species. A small herd were brought to a Stately Home in Bedfordshire, and some escaped. Our entire deer population now has to be controlled by culling. We have no predators for deer any more, apart from cars, there are no more wolves, or lynx etc.

Hemp expert here. Everything we make from petroleum can be made from the cannabis plant. The reason marijuana was outlawed had nothing to do with marijuana and everything to do with making hemp go away. This was able to be pulled off because it took longer to develop a harvester for hemp than for cotton/soybeans. The harvester came out the year hemp was outlawed. As is usually the case, it was all about the money. There are some videos on this subject on my channel. Cannabis grown for max. seed and stalk production is hemp. The flower is marijuana. A word made up so the public would not know this Killer Drug from Mexico they read about in the newspaper was the same cannabis people were growing in their back yards.

If I remember correctly idiots took Rabbits and Foxes to Australia, so they'd be able to ride to a local hunt like they did in England. You may want to see a video about the Rabbit fence that now splits Australia in half. They didn't learn - they did something similar later on with Toads.
@nicksykes4575 I think you will find more responsibility lies with the Normans. They were a valued source of meat and fur, and there were a number of predators who readily adapted to rabbit as prey. However, in time, those predators tended to be regarded as undesirable rivals for rabbits and more valuable game birds, especially in leaner times. Around where I live, there was a large population if rabbits, on the South Downs of Sussex and competing for the same food source as sheep. It is said that the typical topography of the Downs was maintained by sheep and rabbits. However 12-15 years ago, the rabbit population crashed catastrophically as a result of a new strain of myxomatosis and two harsh winters. The population has shown no significant sign of recovery, yet. One side effect is that gorse, brambles, and other tough plants are spreading very noticeably on the gentle curves of the Downs.

QI. stands for quite interesting and it has lots of faces you will know . The 'Elves' come up with some really obscure stuff and scores are penalised for obvious answers . Most contributors end up with minus points , you don't have to be clever to appreciate the humour . it's well worth watching more .

Where I am there are a number of products with Hemp and there are Hemp shops. I have toothpaste, moisturiser, shampoo, massage oil, hot chocolate, tea bags, honey, all sorts of stuff.

It’s supposed to be interesting to you. This series is one of the best things to appear on TV and there is a wealth of funny stuff. You should try to find the discussion about why the Giant Tortoise didn’t get a scientific name for a long time, it’s absolutely hilarious.
A lot of varieties of hemp had low to no THC, these were used for ropes, material & other things which didn't need to make anyone high. The varieties used for smoking/food have been bred to greatly increase their THC % since the explosion of use.
I bet there are some deals between private prison owners and the local police about rewards for keeping the prisons full. They make a fortune with the prisoners when they can compete with Mexiko in labor cost.
In the UK we have had issue with the Grey Squirrel, accidentally introduced to the UK, it is larger than it's native red cousin and eats a larger variety of food, it has starved it's red cousin out of most of the UK all but a few locations, one of which is the Isle of Wight, an island on the south coast, where all attempts to find and capture any greys detected. Last I heard (some time ago) there was concern about another larger squirrel, the brown or black? I can't remember that was in mainland Europe that could potentially do the same to the grey's as they did to the reds if they were to reach our shores.
Apart from there being some rather bad facts in there in this clip - QI is one AWESOME show. You will learn a whole bunch of interesting stuff in a really funny way each episode. Some of the best TV I ever saw. I'm looking forward to watch each new ripped episode here on youtube from Germany. :D
As a PS: It's funny, but most of the facts you learn from watching QI are both fascinating in some way while, at the same time, being totally useless for average people. Kinda like the answers in a huge game of Trivial Pursuit. It's a BRILLIANT show and luckily all the episodes can be found on the tube. :)

I was baffled while watching this as to whether you may or may not understand that 'jizz' is the slang word for sperm/ejaculate and Sandy was pronouncing "Gi z-score" as "Jizz score". So, when Sandy said "It's not often that you see a map of the jizz score for arsehole" Clarkson replied "It is now that Stephen's (Fry) gone". Mr Fry is a famous out and proud (and all-round amazing homosexual and that was a very funny but close to the knuckle comment. Hence why the audience were laughing so loudly.

In UK 'American crawfish' is called 'signal crayfish'. We don't have 'blue crab' so you might be thinking of another country with issues with that. We do however have problems with many invasive non-native species including other crustacians.

With regard to the legality of marijuana in the US. Notice that it became a serious criminal matter around the same time alcohol became legal in 1933. A good job all those federal agents didn't have to go far to get new jobs during the depression. Not to mention the formation of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics under Anslinger. I'm sure it was only a coincidence that working class blacks were the main users of marijuana at that time. How could anyone suggest this was a political move and not about public health?
Well for me the best QI was when S Fry went thru all the things that the FACT's for had changed, and then readjusted the scores (I can not remember if Alans score went up or down but it changed a lot)

...and hemp grows at a far faster rate than trees, so hemp growers can grow more hemp for cheaper than lumber growers.

I started watching QI on BBC Canada a few years ago. I started watching other British shows on RUclips. Have I Got News for You, Would I Lie To You, and 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown.

About the hemp thing, yes multiple uses. We don’t really use nettles anymore for thread and weaving. Flax is an absolutely wonderfull material, not used much either …unfortunately.

The prohibition of slavery (13A) specifically excludes prisoners from the prohibition. This was at the height of chain gangs for the railroad, which cut costs massively.

Given that "the land of the free" has the largest prison population in the world, housing 1% of the entire population, many for non violent crimes; it would be cheaper to house and educate them.

You entirely misunderstood theorc's comment and are clueless about crime. The point theorc is making is that America wastes billions on putting people in prison instead of spending it on educating and housing regular people, like the rest of the civilised world does. Educated people commit fewer crimes, so you have fewer prisoners, which is cheaper and more tax money can be spent on the regular people. That is the food for though, but you go triggered into low earth orbit.
The assumption that a government supporting it's people creates criminals is disproven by the fact that the US has 20% of all prisoners in the world, as one of the wealthiest but the most unequal at the same time. Poverty, a lack of education and lack of opportunity creates crimes. Hence America's high crime rate.
Funny how you must make it seem like theorc wants those specific groups pampered, yet the majority of Americas prisoners is in for non-violent crimes that have a huge sentence. Those also shouldn't be pampered but the cost of incarcerating them is enormous, while the US refuses to spend the same on helping its people. That is insane.
Go watch the documentary Breaking the Cycle where an American prison warden goes to Norway, to experience their methodology. He is a conservative hardliner.

Hemp disappeared because, after Prohibition was repealed, the guy running the alcohol side (Anslinger at the Narcotics Bureau) was looking for something to do and settled on hemp - even though it was barely grown in the US at the time. It eventually got banned in 1937 although various states had already banned its use (in California, NYC and Texas largely as xenophobic laws targeting Chinese, Mexicans and so on). Indeed, the hemp prohibitionists even went on crusades to stop the Europeans from producing the stuff too. It was a stupid thing to do because, as was pointed out, it's an extremely useful plant.
I don't know what the figures are atm but when I last checked, some years ago, roughly 40% of the entire WORLD's prison population was in America! No other country comes close, even in per capita terms. As Stephen said, no other country in human history, has imprisoned as many of it's own people as the US does! Bear in mind that this includes Stalinist Russia, Nazi Germany, Mao's China and North Korea!

Crikey. Can't remember exactly when this episode came out, but I think at roughly the same time the figure was 25% of the world's prisoners were in the US.
Can also recall learning about a particular law in certain states which allowed an alarming amount of private business influence on determining which crimes result in prison, and for how long. Completely coincidentally, those same business use prisoners to make their products...

QI is an excellent source of strange trivia. It's an entertaining - often hilarious - show but also very educational. Stephen Fry presented the first 13 series (A-M - each series' episodes begin with a different letter of the alphabet). Since then, Sandy Toksvig has presented it - they're up to about series T. As far as hemp is concerned, IIRC the original copy of the US Declaration of Independence was written on hemp paper. BTW - here in New Zealand we have a big trouble with introduced rabbits everywhere.
Actually, they're up to series V now. I just watched the "Very Varied" episode on the weekend.

I know that state universities in Florida get most of their furniture from a company called PRIDE which is Prisoner rehab -- giving prisoners a trade while incarcerated. More than just license plates.
US government offices are required to source furniture from a prison corporation, if available.

I remember watching a celebrity version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and their 'phone a friend' was Stephen Fry. There was a big knowing laugh at the reveal. A tricky question about literature came up and they phoned Stephen. They asked him like the first three words of the question and he interrupted with the correct answer 'Sense and Sensibility, darling'. The guy is a national treasure and as smart as a guy with two heads.
Introducing a species to get rid of another one always reminds me of the old nursery rhyme: "she swallowed a fly" :)
The African Dung beetle was introduced to Australia to help with the mountains of cow plops, and they were a success. Can't say the same for the bull frog 😮

The reason for the hemp thing is that it was seen as a direct rival for paper sold by logging companies. Put a lot of money into lobbying government and got hemp pretty much banned because of its association with marijuana smoking and a lot of racial epithets that went with it

Hemp is still used for all products mentioned. In the Netherlands hemp is grown to be processed into things like construction plates (housing) and absorption material for horse stables.
Only breeds of hemp containing little THC are allowed.

There's a company called Braintree, here in the UK, that makes hemp clothing and accessories (bags, satchels etc.). I've had loads of hemp clothing over the years. Jackets, T shirts, trousers, even socks (it's a very versatile fabric, not unlike linen and pretty hard wearing, but can also be made wool or cotton like). It's pretty good quality stuff. The label is dead cool. Company name and a marijuana leaf motif. They've got a big flagship store in Camden Market.
QI is a total rabbit hole. One letter of the alphabet per year and they are up to V. Check out "How the giant tortoise got its name", the only question that Steven Fry says went the way he expected.

You're absolutely correct, the prohibition of the plant itself did cause a lot of other stuff to cease existing and hemp is a really good thing to make rope and clothes from, as well as a fairly good protein that doesn't taste like anything at all so if you flavour it it'll just taste like the flavouring. It's the best vegan protein source there is (and if you add some rice protein you have a full worthy protein with high absorption properties).
I don't partake in the stuff either but it's a damn shame that we quit using it for all other things that it's great for.
I live on South Africa. We use hemp rope and string in crafts, gardening and when we need to repair old galvanized iron plumbing fittings

Not sure about the blue crabs, but yes, we have a major problem with the 'American signal crayfish', originally farmed, which is breeding prolifically, & out competing with native species for food etc. A similar thing happened with the grey squirrel, which introduced a virus which killed off nearly all of the native reds.
We have also had problems with introducing coypu [ a sort of overgrown, semi-aquatic guinea pig ] and mink as 'farmed' animals for fur. Escapees have caused chaos. Mink slaughter small mammals, & have no real predators, and coypu dig large burrows in riverbanks, which causes major problems.
We now have widespread muntjac deer, which is a non-native species. A small herd were brought to a Stately Home in Bedfordshire, and some escaped. Our entire deer population now has to be controlled by culling. We have no predators for deer any more, apart from cars, there are no more wolves, or lynx etc.
You got our starlings we got your grey squirrels .
and we are playing tennis batting piers morgan between us because nobody wants the prick.
And in Australia we got the rabbits and the foxes.

Hemp expert here. Everything we make from petroleum can be made from the cannabis plant. The reason marijuana was outlawed had nothing to do with marijuana and everything to do with making hemp go away. This was able to be pulled off because it took longer to develop a harvester for hemp than for cotton/soybeans. The harvester came out the year hemp was outlawed. As is usually the case, it was all about the money. There are some videos on this subject on my channel.
Cannabis grown for max. seed and stalk production is hemp. The flower is marijuana. A word made up so the public would not know this Killer Drug from Mexico they read about in the newspaper was the same cannabis people were growing in their back yards.

If I remember correctly idiots took Rabbits and Foxes to Australia, so they'd be able to ride to a local hunt like they did in England. You may want to see a video about the Rabbit fence that now splits Australia in half. They didn't learn - they did something similar later on with Toads.
Blame the Romans for the Rabbits, if they hadn't brought them to the UK they couldn't have shipped them off to Oz.

@nicksykes4575 I think you will find more responsibility lies with the Normans. They were a valued source of meat and fur, and there were a number of predators who readily adapted to rabbit as prey. However, in time, those predators tended to be regarded as undesirable rivals for rabbits and more valuable game birds, especially in leaner times.
Around where I live, there was a large population if rabbits, on the South Downs of Sussex and competing for the same food source as sheep. It is said that the typical topography of the Downs was maintained by sheep and rabbits.
However 12-15 years ago, the rabbit population crashed catastrophically as a result of a new strain of myxomatosis and two harsh winters. The population has shown no significant sign of recovery, yet. One side effect is that gorse, brambles, and other tough plants are spreading very noticeably on the gentle curves of the Downs.
@@rgv666 No one ever hears the full story just remembers different bits and pieces. I looked up foxes and got this: Foxes were introduced to Australia in the 1850s for recreational hunting. They quickly spread across the country, reaching the Northern Territory by 1901 and Queensland by 1907.
QI. stands for quite interesting and it has lots of faces you will know . The 'Elves' come up with some really obscure stuff and scores are penalised for obvious answers . Most contributors end up with minus points , you don't have to be clever to appreciate the humour . it's well worth watching more .

Hemp is still used - it makes a great alternative for durable cotton - and uses less water than cotton plants.
Here in S Florida Pythons and Boa Constrictors are devastating the wildlife in the Everglades.
Not to mention the iguanas.

American crawfish are invasive in the netherlands too. They are replacing all kinds of local wildlife but they are delicious and you're allwed to catch as many as you can find.

(Oh .. and talking of invasive species entering a country .. Your grey squirrels have severely reduced the quantity of our native red squirrels, due to the grey being stronger at competing for food, they are bigger and they carry a disease which kills the reds but doesn't appear to have any impact on the greys) .. Quite interesting, eh ?
Where I am there are a number of products with Hemp and there are Hemp shops. I have toothpaste, moisturiser, shampoo, massage oil, hot chocolate, tea bags, honey, all sorts of stuff.
They need to keep sending them to prison to keep those production lines rolling!

It’s supposed to be interesting to you. This series is one of the best things to appear on TV and there is a wealth of funny stuff. You should try to find the discussion about why the Giant Tortoise didn’t get a scientific name for a long time, it’s absolutely hilarious.

A lot of varieties of hemp had low to no THC, these were used for ropes, material & other things which didn't need to make anyone high.
The varieties used for smoking/food have been bred to greatly increase their THC % since the explosion of use.

I bet there are some deals between private prison owners and the local police about rewards for keeping the prisons full. They make a fortune with the prisoners when they can compete with Mexiko in labor cost.
In the UK we have had issue with the Grey Squirrel, accidentally introduced to the UK, it is larger than it's native red cousin and eats a larger variety of food, it has starved it's red cousin out of most of the UK all but a few locations, one of which is the Isle of Wight, an island on the south coast, where all attempts to find and capture any greys detected. Last I heard (some time ago) there was concern about another larger squirrel, the brown or black? I can't remember that was in mainland Europe that could potentially do the same to the grey's as they did to the reds if they were to reach our shores.
Apart from there being some rather bad facts in there in this clip - QI is one AWESOME show. You will learn a whole bunch of interesting stuff in a really funny way each episode. Some of the best TV I ever saw. I'm looking forward to watch each new ripped episode here on youtube from Germany. :D
As a PS: It's funny, but most of the facts you learn from watching QI are both fascinating in some way while, at the same time, being totally useless for average people. Kinda like the answers in a huge game of Trivial Pursuit. It's a BRILLIANT show and luckily all the episodes can be found on the tube. :)

I was baffled while watching this as to whether you may or may not understand that 'jizz' is the slang word for sperm/ejaculate and Sandy was pronouncing "Gi z-score" as "Jizz score". So, when Sandy said "It's not often that you see a map of the jizz score for arsehole" Clarkson replied "It is now that Stephen's (Fry) gone". Mr Fry is a famous out and proud (and all-round amazing homosexual and that was a very funny but close to the knuckle comment. Hence why the audience were laughing so loudly.

In UK 'American crawfish' is called 'signal crayfish'. We don't have 'blue crab' so you might be thinking of another country with issues with that. We do however have problems with many invasive non-native species including other crustacians.
I was in the house of a friend whose wife suffers from MS. I noticed a dozen cartons if hemp milk on a kitchen shelf. Its the only milk she will drink. They have to buy it from Germany apparantley.

With regard to the legality of marijuana in the US. Notice that it became a serious criminal matter around the same time alcohol became legal in 1933. A good job all those federal agents didn't have to go far to get new jobs during the depression. Not to mention the formation of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics under Anslinger. I'm sure it was only a coincidence that working class blacks were the main users of marijuana at that time. How could anyone suggest this was a political move and not about public health?
Well for me the best QI was when S Fry went thru all the things that the FACT's for had changed, and then readjusted the scores (I can not remember if Alans score went up or down but it changed a lot)
