Gordon Liddy, Jesse Combs, rented a motorcycle to the Postmaster General of the United States, and there were multiple shootouts between a couple of MCs. Good times.

Dee Snider is a legend, not just in the music industry but he is actually a very intelligent person. He was the one that stood up to congress back in the 80's over PMRC trying to ban Rock/Metal music because of explicit content... which the ban is a violation to our freedom of speech. Thanks to Dee we still have our music as well as our freedom of speech, even though we get those lovely parental advisory stickers on our music now.... at least we can still 'Rock'. As all kids will, it was "monkey see monkey do" and when the little guy saw the "teens" banging their heads against the lockers during the "Rock! (Rock!) Rock! (Rock!)" part, he copied it by bonking his little head against his dad's loudspeaker that stood taller than he did, lol. My brother sees this and just shook his head with some concern over the "questionable influence". He wasn't one of those conservative stiffs by any means - he liked smoking weed and liked rock music, but he was more of a "FM classic rock" guy and didn't go for much of the heavy metal. It's just funny how seeing kids headbang in a music video was one of those "dangerous influences", which by comparison to what's out there TODAY, it's really laughable now that such visuals were ever any kind of threat to anyone - youth or otherwise.

Twisted sister is what we really needed at the time back in the '80s there were a lot of Christian groups coming out telling people that if they played their records backwards they would hear the devil and that it was causing all kinds of problems in the youth so these videos really struck us when we saw them because it was really imitating life.

The '80's were a very bleak decade music-wise, but Twisted Sister was great. They never took themselves too seriously, and their videos (Van Halen's too - thanks, Pete Angelus) were always funny. A whole bunch of us went to see Twisted Sister in 2009 when they did the 25th anniversary tour for "Stay Hungry"; it was like a statewide reunion of all these lunatics at our house before the show. The band was fantastic - in full makeup, supposedly for the final time - and you could tell they were having fun. Jay Jay French thanked everybody for their patronage over the years while also going on a hysterical, profanity-laden diatribe about how fake American Idol is to a band that had to bust their asses to make it like they did. One thing I will never, *ever* forget: in front of my wife and I there was this woman sitting in the front row of the balcony, she HAD to be ninety years old or more. And she was rocking out to the band....my wife and I still laugh about the cool old lady to this day sometimes.

I got to hang with Dee a few years ago at a couple of his charity events. Bikers For Babies and The Dee Snyder Charity Motorcycle Run. Been doing both for years.
They are a serious band and the makeup was a way to get them noticed. They have called the makeup a blessing (they stand out) and a curse (it became their whole identity). To get a better understanding of the intro and why they used Mark Metcalf (mimicking his Doug Neidermeyer character) you now have to go watch 'National Lampoon's Animal House'. A classic comedy with a stellar cast including the late great Jim Belushi. Dee Snyder (among others) testified in front of congress when the whole "music is corrupting the youth" (PMRC) thing was happening. Just Google "dee snider congress speech" and check it out. It's really interesting and was a HUGE moment for rock music and music in general. The only real change that came from those hearings is the Parental Advisory Labels we now see on CDs, and albums. Ironically those labels just made more people want to buy CDs with the labels because it was a kind of FU to the system. Many musicians including rappers see the labels as a badge of honor so to speak.

For better or worse, Dee Snider gets the credit for Howard Stern's old look. Howard used to look like an accountant but since he was not on television, nobody knew it. So Dee was shocked when he first was a guest on the Howard Stern Show. He told Howard that he need a rock & roll look to go with his rock & roll attitude, so Dee and his wife created that Howard look from 1987-2000ish.

Dee Snyder said recently that the songs "I wanna Rock" and "We're Not Gonna Take It" were the best things to ever happen to his life because he makes disgusting amounts of money from the royalties off those two songs even 30+ years later.
I have to say your are right Lex about the energy they have when i saw them in 86 Dee had everyone standing with all of the lights on in the HemisFair Arena In San Antonio Tx and a kid and his mother he had come down to the stage from way in the back in the balcony to sing I wanna rock! with him. Till this day it is the most motivating concert i have ever been to and I have been to quite a few.
The teacher is Douglas C. Neidermeyer from the movie Animal House. That’s how he acted in the movie. The guy at the end spaying the seltzer bottle was Kent (flounder) Dorfman from the same movie.
The yelling guy and the big guy at the end were actors in ANIMAL HOUSE and those were quotes they had said in the movie which was super popular for decades... I think Neidermeyer (yelly guy) also stars in We're Not Going To Take It video also.

Every time I see this guy in these Twisted Sister videos I think of the movie Animal House.
The '80's were a very bleak decade music-wise, but Twisted Sister was great. They never took themselves too seriously, and their videos (Van Halen's too - thanks, Pete Angelus) were always funny. A whole bunch of us went to see Twisted Sister in 2009 when they did the 25th anniversary tour for "Stay Hungry"; it was like a statewide reunion of all these lunatics at our house before the show. The band was fantastic - in full makeup, supposedly for the final time - and you could tell they were having fun. Jay Jay French thanked everybody for their patronage over the years while also going on a hysterical, profanity-laden diatribe about how fake American Idol is to a band that had to bust their asses to make it like they did. One thing I will never, *ever* forget: in front of my wife and I there was this woman sitting in the front row of the balcony, she HAD to be ninety years old or more. And she was rocking out to the band....my wife and I still laugh about the cool old lady to this day sometimes.
Fun Fact: Dee Snyder went to my daughter's High School - Baldwin High on Long Island. Go Bruins!!

The song stood on its own merits as did the band. I get that the slap stick, hair, makeup and hair were common during the 80s but it is nostalgic to see what used to be popular.

They called them “Hair Bands”, for a reason
They are a serious band and the makeup was a way to get them noticed. They have called the makeup a blessing (they stand out) and a curse (it became their whole identity).
To get a better understanding of the intro and why they used Mark Metcalf (mimicking his Doug Neidermeyer character) you now have to go watch 'National Lampoon's Animal House'. A classic comedy with a stellar cast including the late great Jim Belushi.
Dee Snyder (among others) testified in front of congress when the whole "music is corrupting the youth" (PMRC) thing was happening. Just Google "dee snider congress speech" and check it out. It's really interesting and was a HUGE moment for rock music and music in general. The only real change that came from those hearings is the Parental Advisory Labels we now see on CDs, and albums. Ironically those labels just made more people want to buy CDs with the labels because it was a kind of FU to the system. Many musicians including rappers see the labels as a badge of honor so to speak.
