Depeche Mode lead the electronic alternative movement in the 80‘s, became global superstars in the 90‘s and keep going strong basically till today. So many good songs from so many era‘s. Please check Never let me down again, Barrel of a gun, A pain that I‘m used to or Wrong just to name some of the bangers.

My favourite depeche mode - among many that are my favourites - is Precious. It’s not correct to say depeche mode led 80s electronic - they were side by side with new order and happy mondays, among a bunch of others, like Blondie. But depeche mode did single-handedly create what became known as industrial rock.
There is a great cover version of enjoy the silence that was made by KI Theory for the movie Ghost in the Shell but was never used.

@@williammunny3418 Ha ha - Devo, yes. Saw them live once. Theyre famous for Whip it but they actually had lots of really good songs. Nine Inch Nails came later and were a heavier sound. They produced Halsey's latest album and you can really tell. Have a listen to I Am Not a Woman Im a God - its basically NIN with a power female vocal. But some advice: play it LOUD!

Really you have to understand that D Mode dominated the 80's alternative music scene. They continued strong throughout the 90's. I would strongly suggest some later hits too - the maturity in the song writing, music and production all improved with age - Violator was a huge album saw them on that tour. World in my eyes!

@@dene39 I agree 100% - I love Violator, but I definitely wouldn't say that Depeche Mode 'dominated' the 80s + 90s - there were so many awesome bands and so much good music that came out in those 2 decades,. I think it's more fair to say that they held their own, but can't agree that they were somehow better than the others. Just my opinion.

This is what I miss most about the 80s, there was a big movement that was bringing different races and ethnicities together and it was working. Funny how politicians quickly turned to identity politics to break this up as soon as they could. Politicians thrive when we are divided.

    • @pdog547
      @pdog547 2 года назад +4

Wow. This is 100% the truth. People for the most part want to live and let live. Politicians are not people in this sense. It's control.

This song came out in 1984 when the song writer, and back vocal singer on this, Martin Gore, was around 23. When he was 31 and was about to have his first child his mother told him that his father, whom he had never known, was an African-American. It was just so they wouldn't be surprised if the child had had a darker skin tone than her parents.

DM was the single biggest band through the 80's. They literally changed the entire soundscape. I have to say, Lex, you have a very good ear. You may not know all the terminology, but you hear all the nuance very well. These guys, Martin Gore in particular, were serious musical craftsmen. Oh hell yeah, Depeche Mode is my favourite band of any era. I've listened to this track, and most of their tracks, numerous times and they probably have at least 20-30 iconic 80's tunes like Enjoy The Silence, Strangelove, Personal Jesus, It's No Good, Just Can't Get Enough... ugh, probably more than 30. Love DM and finally, after all these years we finally know what makes a man hate another man and it's lattice. (for the new channel folks, Brad and Lex received a warning notification to remove the lattice on their propery, which is ridiculous and we all just chuckle at that especially that it was there before they moved in.)

I don't know if anyone else wrote that they burst onto the New Romantic scene back in 1981 with New Life. Shortly after Vince Clark left to form Yazoo and Depeche became as Lex said 'Industrial' using dustbin lids etc to create their distinctive sound.
Love watching Lex bopping on the couch and Brad's sideways looks of 'what are you doing?'.
I saw that you were having tenancy problems! Here in the UK 🇬🇧 you'd be asked to remove any structures that contradicted your lease, it could go to court, but if you showed compliance it would be thrown out.

One of the things I have always loved about this song is the dual vocal. The lead singer, who's name is Dave (David) Gahan and for the chorus is the song writer for Depeche Mode named Martin Gore. This was not the first time they harmonised like this. I would suggest checking two songs, 'everything count's' and 'Shake The Disease. But if you really want to hear Martin Gore sing and shine on a song, I strongly suggest 'Somebody' .( From the same album that People Are People is off of . Some Great Reward. A Classic)

Just a little pop culture observation..back in the day (80's) only "Rockers (and Stoners)" wore band logo T shirts. You had to actually get them at the concert (except for K mart phonies that were so bad!) and you wore them till they were faded and threadbare. You never saw new looking ones except right after a concert. Now younger people are wearing them again but they all look too new! you gotta wash it at least 5 times and tumble dry for the authentic look!

I can't believe you got around to Depeche mode. So happy for you. So many great songs by Depeche Mode out there. You should totally check out more of their songs. I am surprised you haven't checked anything by the Cure yet. Songs like The Cure's Love Song or Fascination Street are pretty cool. They got just as many songs, if not more than Depeche Mode in their catalog. Other good Depeche Mode songs- Policy of Truth, Never let me down again, Walking in my shoes, Personal Jesus. You literally can't miss with these guys.

Back in the day it was called techno rock and Depeche Mode is the best of that genre even today. They introduced this genre. Different sounds. This was recorded around the mid-80s and hatred doesn't have a time limit.... unfortunately. Thank you for listening to a great band. They have a lot of hits. My favorite is Strangelove. Then Never Let Me Down Again, Enjoy the Silence and No Good. Watch the videos.

This song has been with me since it was quite new, when I was 6 years old (1985) and I instantly loved it back then (i didn't understand the lyrics ofcourse, english is not my native language). Gives me goosebumps hearing it and seeing the reactions. Music can really unite people.

This is the song that got Depeche Mode noticed is the USA before hitting main stream superstardom in 1990 with there Violator album. I recommend checking out " Enjoy The Silence" that hit the USA top 10 Billboards. In the early 90's DM changed there sound and look a little like in songs "I Feel You " or in the late 90's with " Barrel Of A Gun" they are much more hard hitting rockier songs but still with the DM stamp of synth. "Never Let Me Down Again " is a song they always play live on there tours it is also an awesome tune

Hey guys! Just wanted to start by saying how much I love you guys! I enjoy watching your reactions to so many great songs and the diversity of so many genres! Especially with bands I adore like Depeche Mode. One of my favorite bands since I was 10 in 86’. I love how Lex mentions Industrial. Even though DM isn’t industrial, they definitely had some of those elements in some of their songs. I really want to talk to you guys about introducing more industrial bands that you guys could listen and react to. There so many great underground bands out there that I’m sure you’re not aware of. Stuff I could see you guys possibly liking. Most Industrial bands are underground and the genre has been around since the late 70’s but there so many different types. Sub genres. It would be great to see your guys thoughts on some of them. If you’re interested. Let me know. I could be your Goth/Darkwave/Industrial teacher 😜🤣 Keep up with the great work. Cheers to you two!
