  • Amon was the most intimidating villain. Zaheer was the most interesting and complex. Kuvira was okay. And Unalaq - we don't talk about Unalaq This is an analysis for why Amon should have been the final villain.

I 100% AGREE with your take on Asami. Honestly she'll be perfect as this clever and smooth spy. They can make her a mix between Azula (with her wits) and Zuko (with his conscience and genuine kindness). Make her father share to her his hatred and bias against benders at a young age. Make her a loyal member of the Equalists too. Tbh, the first time they introduced her and instantly made her "like" Mako in the show, just because....I was like: hey, I am not a boy but a gorgeous sexy rich woman instantly "falling in luv" with me in our first meeting is way too SUS to me. Asami dating him right away and introducing him to her father adds more to the SUS vibes.😂
Their first meeting will still be an accident but instead of a random thing that just happened, transform the scene as her first move in her mission. Make it a scene displaying Asami's cleverness. She recognizes who and how valuable Mako is (with his relationship/friendship with the Avatar), she then immediately grab that chance to make friends with him. Being Mako's GF is the easiest way for her to spy on Korra and her allies. This would make their "love triangle" more interesting because in my version, Asami will grow to genuinely care for Mako and Team Avatar and this will make her question her father's and the equalist's view on benders. By the time Team Avatar discover Hiroshi Sato's plan in the show, they would also doubt Asami and she will explain herself to them. But at this point, they wouldn't want to trust her again. Of course, Mako will break up with her at this moment. Then after all of this, start her Zuko character arc by making her confront then turn her back on her father by saving Team Avatar without them knowing. But because the Team didn't know what Asami did, she will need to start from 0 to gain the team's trust again. Yeah, this is still messy but atleast this would make Asami more developed and complex. And it would make the already forced love triangle more interesting to some.

Back when I believed that Amon WAS visited by spirits, I was hoping he was being assisted/manipulated by Ko the face-stealer.
Amon was hiding his face right? Which made me think Ko had something to do with it. Also, back in The Last Airbender, Ko did say to Aang that they'd "meet again", which always remained in the back of my mind and left me wondering if he meant seeing the Avatar in another life...
A shame that things didn't turn out that way!

I do like this idea of Amon being the end game villain. What if we took it a little further? While Kuivera could be causing trouble to have order, we could have a Unalaq type character working with her at his own agenda to bring forth spirits. That's why Korra ends up getting involved to ultimately deal with both threats. Then at the end of the first season, we still have the spirits released and balance again with airbending. Then at the end of that, you get the tease of Amon there like you said.
For Season 2, the Red Lotus come about, keeping a majority of season 3 now in an earlier season. You could also have a connection here where Kuvira came from, meeting the rest of the Metal Clan. Ultimately, they can have Toph show up with Zuko and Katara to help take care of the Red Lotus group. Korra still gets weakened and has to deal with deep depression and finding her want to be the avatar again.
This is when Amon really comes out in full force, taking the past 2 threats in a rallying cry against benders and really putting the Avatar down as weak. Perhaps, with your mentioned desire for Amon to be an anti bender, he really gains that strengthened power with the whole unleashed spirits thing at the end of now season 1. And if you really wanted to keep the connection of him and his brother, you can, or even have had them as friends growing up.
Oh! And you can still keep the pro bending stuff and friends from season 1 in the same season in this revived version. If Asami's dad gets put in jail for whatever reason at the beginning, Amon can have connections still to propose an idea of an alliance to Sato from the inside, eventually aiding in his release when they start the official strike. Hiroshi reunites with his daughter during the chaos and can have a change of heart at the end, ultimately aiding the heroes to help take down Amon. But will it be too late for many? I definitely would like Asami to be better presented too. She has so much potential.
Just a few added thoughts. :)

Didn’t really appreciate Kuvira as a final villain until I realized it makes more sense in the context of Last Airbender. Roku failed to stop Sozin and thus began the conquest of the Fire Nation. Kuvira was basically becoming another Sozin but for the Earth Kingdom instead. If Korra failed to stop her, it’s like there would have been another 100 year war. By stopping Kuvira, Korra succeeded where Roku failed. It’s poetic.

The main conflict of Season 1 should’ve been between the human world and the spirit world, with Koh serving as Korra’s primary antagonist, ending with her opening the spirit portals. This leads to season 2, which is the exact same as season 3 is. Then in our new season 3, Kuvira is the main villain, but without the transformer thing. Finally, this leads to Amon wanting to end bending because of all the problems it causes for Season 4.

I feel like that makes more sense than what we see in season 3, and it is completely in character for him. So the sky bison make a retun in the Legend of Korra. It'd be cool if Zaheer stole a sky bison and this was somehow the key to him getting the airbending ability.
It's a much more compelling story about the origins of bending since sky bison were the original air benders. It makes sense that the secret to attaining airbending has something to do with the original airbenders (sky bison) then the lion turtle crap lol

It is weird that the Krew travelled to the water tribes (Korra's home) and the Earth Kingdom but never in the Fire Nation. Even Firelady Izumi and General Iroh have very little screentime. They even changed Asami's original motivations in joining Team Avatar. I loved Amon when they revealed him. I loved the idea of benders and non-benders at war with non-benders becoming more powerful with technology and bending being a thing of the past. Then they made him a blood bender and ruined it. He absolutely should have been an energy bender, have a spirit grant him that power in order to "bring balance" and then have Korra, who has defined herself on her skill at bending, have him actually take away her bending. She then feels like a failure and if forced to meditate and become more spiritual, to unite the spirits and humans in order to enter the avatar state. When in the state you could give her bending back temporaily or give her a new power as she uses the powers of all avatars behind her. While she never gets her bending back, she ends up becomes a symbol for non-benders and equality.

Love the video and here’s my ideas for LOK:
    - Asami to Mako could have been the lost love that became enemies with her working for Amon but eventually reconnects. This gives more characters depth and history (which LOK lacked in comparison to ATLA).
    - I think that Unalaq as a side character for Korra and her family could have been useful, especially for Korra’s spiritual journey. He still did cut Korra off from the Avatar state and that’s still relevant imo.
    - The entire Red Lotus’ stays relevant until the last season and could have been LOK’s version of Team Azula. I really think killing the rest of them was a mistake that was shown in the lack of depth in season 4. We could have learn more about the division of the Lotus and strengthen Zaheer’s role as an enemy turn anti-hero.
    - Mirror the progression they did with Ozai with Amon. Ozai as a character was quite bland but the fear factor he had was astonishing. We didn’t see face for almost two full season, imagine if they did something similar with Amon who was a far more interesting character. I think the blood bending angle still works with Amon but instead he is met by spirits and due to his exceptional abilities, he develops anti-binding or energy powers.
    - And yes, you have to make Team Avatar much, much, much stronger just for the sake of og fans. Also maybe we could have made Korra’s struggles to connect with Aang a key role in Korra’s development and he does not show up until the later parts of the series.
Overall, LOK had some details that were honestly far superior to ATLA, especially in terms of antagonists, but the big picture is where the show failed.

Season 3 of the Legend of Korra in my opinion is the weakest because in season 1 and 2 we have the backstory and motivation for villains - Amon were scared by bending for his entire life and he found his audience using "Equality" mask. Unalaq is hungry for power so him becoming the dark avatar makes sense although villain in season 2 weren't its strongest side but instead character development of Bolin, Aang's children, Tenzin's children, Avatar origins and many others.
Season 3 started off great in the first episode - i was thinking season 3 is going to be about Spirits and People trying to connect with each other and airbenders restoring the nation - i ever wrote a scene - One of the future airbenders is irritated that he can't learn nomad's culture, Korra says to him "listen, i know how it feels to have a huge bourbon on your shoulders and feeling like the entire world is depends on you, you should find your way, something that interests you and inspires you" - which reflects Korra's journey in season 1 and shows her growth as the person.
But instead in the first episode President kicks Korra out which makes no sense (its like trying to build a house and denying access of the construction company onto the property) and 60% of the season is the fetch quest for airbenders with villains without any real backstory and motivations

Kuvira was not a final boss of a 4 part series. it was not 4 parts of a whole series. each one was like a mini-series completely disconnected to the other. it was like they were running out of material and had no planning or build up of story.
Throughout Season 1 we were getting parts of amon's background. Amon was basically korra's foil. both were successors of someone. Amon's predecessor was beaten by korra's predecessor using the final finisher aang used in the series finale and Amon learned from his predecessor's defeat and gained that very power for himself. he had background. he had build up. he basically had a character arc in the making. gaining power through the sacrifice of his own humanity. korra started out with all the power in the world and was on the path of gaining more humanity by connecting with the world and its people.
I would not have changed the order of the seasons and would have done. while keeping everything almost the same, I would have just kept amon alive throughout the seasons and keep the theme of amon gaining the very power that defeated him in the last season.
season 1: instead of amon being beaten by korra using air bending, have him still win until he tries to energy bend again. showing the dangers of energy bending for the user when korra awakens avatar state and the chi overflows and injures him instead.
season 2: have amon gain an avatar state by fusing with vaatu. don't destroy korra's connection to the past avatars. have her utilize their wisdom and her elements to overwhelm him in variety of moves he can't do with the combined skill and experience that he doesn't have. have amon be the one to manipulate unalaq using koh who stole his wife's face. have amon betray him.
season 3: have amon actually a fusion of koh all along and the reason why he gained energybending, steal faces/memories/elements/skills from black lotus who he has been manipulating. have him evenly matched against korra but lose the match with the assistance of airbenders combining their skills like in season 3 originally against zaheer. but have him slip into the shadows as he always does when disadvantaged at the slightest. a calculating, elusive, and mysterious threat
season 4: have amon killed by his brother. betrayed by the faceless spirits of those he betrayed. his own karma defeating himself.
    amon was the perfect anti-avatar.
none of the plotlines have to actually change to something else entirely. they just needed to be connected and become a build up

Agreed. He should have been introduced in the first episode, beat the crap out of Korra and warn her about his impending revolution. Episode 2 could continue like season 2 episode 1 but the reason she wants to master the elements is because of the impending war vs Amon. Next 2 seasons final episodes foreshadow Amon. Then season 4 is all about Amon's destined revolution. And the final fight is actually Amon removing ALL elements from Korra and the last fight is a genuine 1v1 martial arts fight between normsl human vs normal human. Only a genuine pure human can lead and relate humanity's future. Korra wins and becomes the only Avatar to earn back her bending powers throughout her whole life.

I think that Amon should definitly be the last villain in The Legend of Korra. Amon is the hardest opponent to defeat in TLOK and ATLA. Let's suppose a very powerful non-avatar bender tries to fight Amon - say Ozai or Sozin. The reality is that Amon's bloodbending is too strong for both of those benders, they might strike back with fire or lightning, but before they could make him defenseless and defeat him, Amon already their bending away. There are clearly much easier opponents Amon faced and defeated in TLOK like Lightning Bolt Zolt, or The Wolfbats. Amon didn't even bloodbend these guys, which we can see if he uses all his powers, he could easily take out 95% of benders. Again, Benders like Ozai and Sozin are 5% of benders that have a slight chance of maybe defeating Amon - they could resist Amon's bloodbending, however they need to strike and bend really fast, otherwise Amon already controls them and removes their powers. Avatars, however can resist Amon bloodbending in the Avatar State, and defeat Amon. Korra defeated Amon out of luck because of Amon's fatigue - which is why she resisted bloodbending so easily not even in Avatar State. But not to mention, she only had a 10% chance of being in that lucky situation - she acted quick. But Avatar State resists all bloodbending. Aang defeated Yakone this way. So could Korra have defeated Amon this way if she had Avatar State powers.
But there is something in Book 2 of TLOK that could have made Amon way more powerful and stronger, and much harder to defeat even in the avatar state. You guessed it, it's Raava and Vaatu. Raava fused with Wan, and reincarnated with hundreds of avatars. But if Amon had fused with Vaatu, he would become a Dark Avatar named Noavaatu and almost impossible to defeat, Korra would have definitly needed to go into the avatar state and try to resist his way more powerful bloodbending fused with Vaatu. But It would require a strong waterbending Raava Avatar to defeat Noavaatu. I think Aang would struggle
even in his Avatar State, but the best of the best who is Korra proved that it is possible to defeat such a powerful enemy. She just needs to be lucky and maybe something like spiritbend Noavaatu before he bloodbends her in full control of his power, take her powers. She could beat him that way. That is how the show could also have been interesting.

Honestly they couldv'e worked Amon as the main villain if they tweaked a few things. Make Amon an actual non-bender given power by the Spirits to remove bending but after being defeated by Korra he realizes he needs more power if he wants to succeed and thus seeks to become an Avatar himself and the Red Lotus act as his allies, his Azula, Zhao and Long Feng so to speak, with the final season being Amon gaining the Power of the Dark Avatar or Avatar of Change and vows to use these new powers to remove bending from the world as a whole now having the power to do it.

I liked that one way more then the original series. The idea to make amon the final boss is.super clever. I wish tho we still would have gotten a spirit part (not a full book), just scrap rava and vato make the spirits angry due to the tech advancments and envoiermental issues, make each season 2 episodes longer to balance it out and give the avatar some spiritual tasks
Also give each team avatar member more character and in exchange scrap the romance quater becouse its too messy
I dont mind Kora with Asami at the end but i find the love tryengle (MakoxKora vs MakoxAssami) + Bolin liking Korra way to much
Give team avatar a diferent reason to stay together. I also never understood why Mako and Korra stoped probending in season 2 - i mean Korra was still in republic city styding bending and Makko just decided oh i can have a lot of money from pro bending or i can scrap that and become a policmen? I had really high hopes for Amon and agree that he and his equalizers could have been the arch-villains for the whole series. Unfortunately, the revelation that he is just an OP water bender, i.e. blood bender, was a big letdown. The idea of a villain who can effortlessly best benders despite having no bending abilities of their own was quite compelling. And left open the possibility of expanding upon chi-blocking and related abilities. The rights of non-benders in a world run by benders is a question worth asking. Personally, I think an Amon who really believed the words he preached and truly wanted to bring about a revolution would have been more interesting and scarier than just some charlatan using his naive followers to his own end. It also wasn't helped that his backstory was that he was the son of a villain whose reign of terror occurs in neither LOK current time or TLA. Being son of Yakon just doesn't have that much weight to it, simply because he wasn't a villain we learned to know and fear in either Avatar series. We only see him in flashbacks. So when Amon is revealed to just be Yakon's son, it's definitely a steep drop in threat factor from the enigmatic being we were led to believe he was at the beginning of the series.

Kuvira was definitely a solid final villain for Korra, but in subtler ways. They both grew up isolated from the world (South Pole and Zaofu respectively), are bending prodigies, and are headstrong to the point of not thinking things through. They're supposed to be a bit of a yinyang. This is reinforced by their 1 on 1 fight within the giant mech not having a clear victor, only them clashing over and over again.
Your rewrite is definitely interesting though. As a massive Kuvira fan, it allows her to have an early redemption arc and be a series-long ally. Zaheer vs Amon sounds DOPE as well.
Also fun fact: Asami *did* start development as an Equalist spy, but the writers liked her so much they made her a hero. This makes her convenient meeting with Mako make more sense.

Your descriptions sound like you admire Amon, which is a bias in his favor in regard to the fanfic in this video. You seem to have a desire to see this cartoon depict more violence, which in turn makes it seem like you aren't listening to what the characters say. If Amon had been the final villain instead of Kuvira, there would have had to be another season or two of Korra just recuperating from her experience with him. And she didn't end up with Mako because they both realized that their personalities are better suited toward friendship with one another than romance.

I’d like to open a discussion about why so many people have Amon as their favorite avatar villain. He’s probably my least favorite and I’ll explain why. So his backstory is meh to say the most and his entire revolution is built upon a fake identity he created. He can’t show his true self to his followers or it would likely end his whole movement. He’s also the biggest hypocrite in the avatar universe. He says benders have an unfair advantage over nonbenders and bending is unnatural and he wants to rid the world of bending, but he himself is a bender and is using his own water bending to do this and HE has an unfair advantage over EVERYONE. These facts completely remove his sense of personal integrity and makes him feel very inauthentic as a villain. He isn’t being true to himself at all like many great villains are, he doesn’t possess any knowledge inherent self-worth and hence no worth as a good villain either.
That being said, I really wish he didn’t immediately get an abrupt and un ceremonial death and we could have further explored Amon’s character after he got busted as a water/blood bender. Like he should had been locked up or something and maybe freed at a later time to do something. Who knows

I am intrigued by your recommendations. I will say that while Korra is interesting..it’s not exactly great. But your ideas on paper seem to make the show much more engaging at at the very least more compatible with realistic politics rather than whitewashed American liberal perspective clearly espoused during the show (seriously I have to wonder if Bryke actually understand ideologies).
Here are some ideas that could be added on:
1)Make Amon a complete mystery. Amon scared the living bejeeves out of me and so many others. Like you I thought he was a new anti-bender. And you’re right that making him the final villain would be so enticing. But what if we never get to see who Amon is? The reason Amon dressed up the way he did was to become a symbol. Amin correctly deduced that if he was a man, he would be seen as fallible, open to attacks form within his own group, so what if he kept that up to the end? Throughout this hypothetical show, we, as you said, get glimpses of Amon planning, but what if the show gave us hints as to who he was? Like as you said Amon in this version has intel from Asami but what if he had other means? What if he was perhaps a politician who worked in city hall? Or perhaps a police chief? What if Amon is never outright said to be a man, but rather “it.” This means that anyone could be Amon which is the whole point of his goal: that any nonbender oppressed can rise up, and that one man/woman isn’t enough. Think of him as V from V for Vendetta the comic. We get hints but never confirmation to his real identity which the comic stresses isn’t important nor does V care. Korra now has to fight someone who is not only ideologically opposed to the bending world, but also her very status as the avatar. The avatar is always a public figure, can rarely get alone time, and is always called to defend the status quo. Amon isn’t that. Plus, academically , critics praised korra especially in season 4 for delving into feminist perspectives/non-heteronormative lenses (I don’t think the show did that but that’s my opinion). Amon being a genderless figure but who used a masculine voice could be a fascinating topic to discuss.
2)Amon’s political backstory. As stated before, it makes sense if Amon was in positions of power to accurately monitor the developments around the world. Throughout the series we are introduced to numerous political operatives both informal and formal. In canon we met so many of these individuals. So the show asks us: WHICH one was Amon? But I’d disagree Amon has a “evil dark lord ultra plan” in which he planned everything.those stories raise too many questions, make the villain a godlike intellectual, and aren’t exactly in line with real politics. I would suggest that Amon is simply adjusting to the situations developing in the world. He has a goal, was planning it for years, and is flexible enough. The writers really need to ignore Europe ww2 as a model and focus more on the boxer rebellion/Chinese civil war for Amon’s rise to power.
3)asami. I love the idea of her being a spy. And yes she should fall in love with korra and get a redemption story. I cannot get out of my head your story of Asami providing psychological reports to her father, mother (yes she is alive, we don’t need dead parents again) and Amon on the heroes. This explains why asami is so friendly to the gang and why she tags along even when she dosnt really provide much to the team. She has moments in which the animation could show “there’s more here,” like a brief flash of anger/annoyance/ or rather questionable intrigue. Like girl, why do you care what korra is feeling in this moment? And then for the redemption , we get brief facial movement which indicates doubt, surprise and genuine respect/admiration for the gang specifically korra. Perhaps we get cutaway scenes where Asami is discussing with her parents that the avatar IS more friendly than she expected, that perhaps the parties can find common ground,…only for the parents to say “No.” these scenes only show PARTS OF THE ARGUMENTS so we the audience assume Asami was not involved in any scheme. A classic misdirection. Perhaps Amon noticed that asami is spending WAY more time with korra, and picks up on some things. He/She asks asami “I know that you have strong feelings for the avatar (gotta keep the censors per nick), but let us talk..these feelings will disrupt your mission to help save us. Do you think Korra will ever usher the utopia? Will she forgive you?”

  • @t.b.cont.
    @t.b.cont. 6 месяцев назад +2

I hate how they didn’t capitalize on korra’s airbending properly. The show plays it off as just a deus ex machina when she loses all her other bending, it’s very un-avatar. Imagine she learns to airbend through finally understanding and empathizing with Amon and his cause, accepting the humility that she was wrong and overcoming her stubbornness, pride, and refusal to understand the world beyond how she sees it in her eyes.
She is legitimately in the wrong for supporting tarlok, he does nothing but opportunistically uses the chaos Amon brought to consolidate power and restrict the freedom of others to create his own lil police state. But more importantly, Korra refused to acknowledge the plight of non benders. She’s their avatar too, and she remained intentionally ignorant of their place as second class citizens, as defenceless targets to be preyed upon by the powerful and powerhungry. Korra failed as the avatar to bring balance, and she absolutely deserved to be brought low when she challenged Amon to a 1v1 to prove her narrow worldview that she was the best and the strong should rule.
The most ironic thing about Korra is that the writers unintentionally made her an even stronger antithesis to Aang than they seem to realize, by making her an instrument of tyranny. The greatest tragedy of it all is that it’s not fully realized or acknowledged. A non blood bending Amon would have been just in his beliefs, but like in the show been wrong to use fear and violence to wrong others just as he had been wronged similarly. If Korra had been the avatar she should have been, she would have sought cooperation and compromise with Amon’s movement rather than dominion and subjugation over them

All korra villains goals were to change the world so Kuvira was a boring villain but she was the perfect final villain, Like toph told korra: Amon wanted Equality for all. unalaq wanted to bring back the spirits. And zaheer believes In anarchy, the problem between them was they were out of balance with themselves and took there ideologies to far
So with book 4 being called balance it’s perfect since kuvira was the same way, out of balance taking it to far the difference was she was genuine, Amon was a liar, unalaq was corrupt and zaheer was misguided, but not kuvira she genuinely believed in the cause unlike Amon and wasn’t manipulated like zaheer, kuvira completely resembled korra in season 1, see the resemblance (wanting to feel important when your not needed, forcing your power on others, freedom from acting perfect, and in the end kuvira was alone while korra identity was shattered but healed with asami cause she found balance with asami and kuvira
Remember the show is called the legend of korra, her story of suffering and self acceptance if it ended with Amon as final villain it would have felt unearned I mean you have to rewrite Amon character because you know he wasn’t portrayed like the final guy he was like other non benders, he died because he was irrelevant and non benders will be happy with a non benders calling the shots ending Amon story while korra would gain her powers back, basically a happy ending after all we went through while if it ended with kuvira it would signify the end since the city was destroyed, people actually died and korra stayed depressed
