    Personally, I think- among many problems with the show- that if Aang DID let a statue be built he would have insisted it be of the ENTIRE GANG! Aang was very well aware he didn't and couldn't defeat the Fire Lord and rebuild the world on his own. So was Zuko- so I doubt he would have wanted it to be just them without Sokka, Katara and Toph.

      Worse, there are several statues of the gang members separated by the republic city, I just don't know why they had to make a huge one of Aang when they could only have placed one in the city.

    It would’ve been brilliant if, after having lost her powers, we would’ve seen an avatar struggle with.. not being the avatar. Especially because being the avatar was such a huge thing for her, she loved it. It would’ve been fascinating to see essentially the opposite of Aang’s arc.

      Nickelodeon gave them a 1 season/12 ep to create a story. Her struggling to be the avatar is something they for sure would've explored if nick had just managed stuff better and not tell then its a 1 off and then asking for another season after they finish the story.
      Yet "her having to deal with not being the avatar" was still greatly shown, not as clearly due to limitations in an all age show. But in the final episode, after losing her bending, korra sits on thd cliff right before aang shows up and she is avtualy about to jump and suicide because in her mind the world doesnt need an avatar that is a spiritual failure and can only bend 1 element, therefor suiciding so that the next avatar can do all the things she can't. I mean, if that doesnt show a great struggle with not being the avatar anymore and her having to decide for the faith of her life and the entire world, then i dont know what does

      @SushiSharkCøal the story of wan was am oroginal story the writers came up with during the writing of atla, yet they never had the time and moment to introduce it into the show. Which is why they decided to do the lion turtle at the end of book3 with the plans to explain the story of the avatar in the comics. Then nick asked the writers for a season 2 about spirits which gave the writers the perfect moment to tell their backstory about the avatar spirit

I also just think it’s unnecessary. People say that it’s just realistic and you have to accept they’ll grow old but I disagree. It’s ok for the gang in the original show to remain young in our minds forever. They’re fictitious characters so they’re not bound by our depressing constraints of reality, we don’t have to see them grow old. I’m pretty sure it was done intentionally so we’d have to renounce our affinity for them and switch it for LOK’s new gang. A real shame and one of the reasons I just pretend LOK doesn’t exist. The explanation for Aang’s early death is just terrible as well.

Thirdly, if you were the target of a criminal who could bend, you wouldn’t stand a chance against them. Non-benders have to live with more fear and boredom than benders.

    I don’t understand why Fire is Korra’s most used and first choice of bending. Since she is born in a water tribe, shouldn’t her most powerful element be water and the worse fire?

    • @golf100
      @golf100 4 года назад +336

      Because it’s not the opposite element from you’re original element but the element most opposite from ur personality. For Korra it was air because her personality is far from an air nomad in the beginning.

    • @yanagi4573
      @yanagi4573 4 года назад +399

      Because they retconned it to keep validating their sue in every way. In the original, it is as you say, the opposite element to their main one is the hardest. It was the case with Aang and Roku, who had issues with earth and water respectively. However in LoK they retcon it so now is the opposite to the personality of the avatar (which is stupid and makes no sense. Zuko wasn't able to bend fire because he wasnt acting like a fire bender, for example). If they do that then suddenly their sue being able to master fire makes sense, but then she shouldnt be able to bend water either. That and the whole crap with the lion turtles handing bending to humans are all bullshit devices to justify whorra being able to bend when she is like 4.

    • @smol_chilli_pepper
      @smol_chilli_pepper 4 года назад +133

      Being able to master an element requires a knowledge and understanding of the philosophy of that particular element. Avatars who start with a particular element would naturally have a harder time learning a form of bending that contradicts what they're comfortable with. It's why Aang who is used to being light on his feet had such a hard time with the heavy and forceful nature of earth bending. With that reasoning it makes sense why an Avatar wont always have trouble with their opposite element since you cant expect all members of a nation to have the exact same personality. Korra being bad at fire bending is counter intuitive but it makes a lot of sense why grasping airbending was so difficult for her. The real issue is her being able to bend 3 elements at age 4. It's so ridiculous

    Starting off with an arrogant, un-spiritual avatar who was the opposite of Aang could've been a good thing, imo. The idea presents new possible struggles.
    It's apparent that Korra was given praise for most of her life for being the avatar, so perhaps she could've gone through a journey to learn to empathize more with average people. Perhaps only having a brute force/physical understanding and style of bending should've actually made her bending weaker to a serious extent.
    Also, it makes sense that Korra (or any non-air nomad avatar) would have more pride about being the avatar than Aang, due to cultural differences with how the avatar is perceived by different people.
    Having a humble, non-materialistic, and non-violent culture, the air nomads naturally may not have given their avatars as much worship and clout for being amazing and strong as the other nations did.

    • @scorpiocarnage1055
      @scorpiocarnage1055 4 года назад +198

      It really would have been a good character arc if they had done that. It's not just the Air Nomads being more spiritual, the Southern Water Tribe's culture is completely destroyed so they don't have any connection to the spiritual. This could have been the chance to see what challenges this Avatar goes through because she is growing up in the aftermath of genocide. Aang still had previous knowledge of the good times before the war. But after the war, Korra would have grown up in a completely different environment in which the traditions of training the Avatar had been broken. I mean, she learns that she's the Avatar at 5. Most Avatars didn't learn about their abilities until they were 16. I am so disappointed that they didn't place the story on Korra's journey in which she realizes that her notion of identity as being the Avatar is unhealthy.

    Aang WAS A kid so he had an excuse. Korra was a young adult, but she destroyed an Air Nomad artefact, was a privileged brat even tho her parents weren't that well off compared to the North, and so many more things.
    And she seemed weaker than Aang. She was supposed to be a genius too.
    I hate to be that person but the villains were more entertaining than her. Kuvira ? Varrick ? the Red Lotus ?

The number one biggest issue to me, however, is how the amazing choreography based in the rich backstories of the different real life martial arts was largely discarded in favor of fairly kickboxing style martial arts that seemed fairly interchangeable between each of the elements. Made the fight scenes far less fun to watch.
    The only people who really insist the legend of Korra was awesome merely want that to be the truth because of their own personal politics and how they felt korra catered to those politics. They would be honest about it sucking had aang and Korra switched series.

    • @dandynoble2875
      @dandynoble2875 5 лет назад +136

      Moral lessons like: if you're stupid and put in only the bare minimum effort you can succeed with your parents' hard work and unbelievable luck.
      Naruto is just as bad as a character as Korra. It's supposed to give the lesson that even an average joe who isn't very bright can succeed with hard work and determination, but Naruto only manages anything because he was handed the strongest tailed beast.
      Granted, that doesn't mean every character in Naruto is that bad. Rock Lee actually does embody that lesson perfectly. He actually worked hard his entire life on taijutsu to overcome the fact he couldn't do ninjutsu where Naruto was simply handed better affinity for ninjutsu than he actually had and because of that didn't have to work.
      Naruto is just as much an irredeemable brat as his son, so Boruto's nature is perfectly in line with his father's example.

    • @Bladezeromus
      @Bladezeromus 5 лет назад +64

      Except it wouldn't...
      Boruto being "op" is literally a complaint I've never seen until just now; because Boruto is actually incredibly weak compared to the cast in part 1 or Naruto at the beginning.
      Konoha being more modern is neither here nor there, it's not like they didn't have that technology already anyway.
      Boruto being an "irredeemable brat" is just fan salt. The kid's mad at his father for not being a father. Naruto does bullshit like send a shadow clone to his daughter's birthday party (which ruins the day) instead of being there himself while leaving the clone to do desk work. He stays away from home for extended periods of time and it affects the household, something Boruto picks up on. It's the same kind of lashing out a kid with a parent always gone on military duty, or police duty, or always at the office does. The entire arc with Momoshiki was addressing this and afterwards Boruto and Naruto have a great relationship; that aspect of the character is basically gone. And most of the fans weren't even worried about that because the Boruto movie had been out way before that so everyone already knew what that character arc was. Outside of that, what does he do that makes him an irredeemable brat? Hell, Sarada pulled the worst shit, straight up doubting to her mom's face who her father was.
      And all of the moral lessons are different and unrelated... so... you're going to have to be specific about that.

    IMO, Legend of Korra would have been a much better show if they:
    - had Korra lose her bending around the midway point of the first season, forcing her to HAVE to learn spirituality because she can't do any of the other bending styles anymore
    - didn't have the stupid Amon plot twist where he was a waterbender using a fake sob story to get people to swing to his side (imo that should have been the actual backstory, instead of "oh my daddy taught me how to bloodbend and I used that to take people's bending away")
    - Amon was a chi blocker who could stop take away people's ability to bend by semi-permanently damaging their chi nodes
    - had Korra re-do the Avatar Journey into, and including, the Spirit World and Civil War diatribe
    - went through with the civil war arc entirely
    - dropped the stupid Avatar Wan shit
    - have Zahir just be a nonbender who's incredibly goddamn skilled at subterfuge and using underhanded tactics to get to his end goal
    - showed Kuvira actually doing some of the shit people had said she'd done
    - didn't focus on fucking ship wars so much

    It was terrible and didn’t get better until the end of the show. Too late to care then.
    Korra was a forced shallow character. She had everything handed to her including having a family, and yet very little in terms of personal ambition to develop on. She seemed to get more hostile with each season, and remained generally unlikeable in personality and activity abusing her power until the last season which by then made it too late to start liking her. I was satisfied seeing her get traumatized, and by the end was just glad it was finally over.
    And again, I was not surprised she turned into a lesbian. I called it from the start.
    Aang lost everything flung into a world he no longer recognized being the last of his culture. He endured a lot of hardship to gain all the power and wisdom he would need to restore balance to the world again. He earned his support. Would’ve been nice if his story went on just a little longer. That’s a real achievement unlike Korra with a limited and unremarkable imbalanced cast of characters who at least had more personality and value than she herself as the hero. Their own stories, however, had much to be desired. Not as bad as her though.

However people are comparing the abilities of Aang and Korra, at 12 and 17 respectively, gotta remember than Aang was living in a time of War. Not only that he had a very strict time frame to master his abilities. So it would make sense why he was better at a younger age. Similar to how in human history people did things at ages that we wouldn’t imagine them doing nowadays at the same age. Korra wasn’t born into and era of war and strife. All of LoK may as well have been a very badly written fan fiction, all culminating with the avatar and whatsername holding hands stepping into the spirit world.
    I also liked it when they had to have Aang come back and literally hand her her powers.

    It's ironic how the 12 year old (Aang) is more mature and less impulsive than the nearly adult character (Korra, who is 17 at the start of the series)

      Aang? He was a whiny goofball and a child. Korra was a hotheaded teenager. Neither were adults lol

      @@hanburgundy4317 show where aang whines. Korra was just plain psychopathic at times, and "she's a teen" doesn't excuse her behaviour. In terms of maturity, aang was on a much higher standpoint.

    The title of the video translated into Portuguese is one of the funniest word puns I've ever read in my entire life. It's so many times better than the original version I almost thought the English version was a translation. One letter change and now "Korra" means the swear equivalent of "FUCK!" in Portuguese, wich is "porra" ("cum"/"semen" in english). It's just perfect.

    why would her parents let her leave when the reason she was being kept secret is because criminals were after her?
