    1:57 (without precision drive)
    2:06 (precision drive no tinkering)
    3:00 (bright at noon, attack dialed back, pretty close to ideal setting for most people)
    4:17 (more boost, attack knob up)
    6:02 (final setting)

    I find it interesting that no matter what amp Ola demos, he always manages to dial in HIS metal tone. I know the guitar and his fingers have a lot to do with that, but the tone he gets out of the amp always has that chunky, thick sound that is crisp, but not too bright. I love it!

  • @TobyKBTY
    @TobyKBTY 6 лет назад +43

    I love Misha but anyone else feel like the Precision Drive and the Invective all together sounds a bit...much? All mega compressed and fizzy imo. Maybe they sound better in person.
    Does misha use both in his live setup or is he still going Horizon into an Axe FX

    • @MrSarthak07
      @MrSarthak07 6 лет назад +1

      Toby K. He currently uses the boost of the peavey invective amp and not the precision drive

    • @thehoppo
      @thehoppo 6 лет назад +9

      Yes I am underwhelmed by this amp from what I have heard so far, I also think its a made in USA price for a made in China amp, I have nothing against made in China, but don't expect to pay as much for something made there.

    • @MangoOverload91
      @MangoOverload91 6 лет назад +3

      Periphery are still AxeFX powered when live. Their entire show is MIDI programmed so it just makes sense to stick to that. Misha and Jake use the Invectives as poweramps, Mark uses a Seymour Duncan poweramp, I believe.

    • @DanteFantarella
      @DanteFantarella 6 лет назад +15

      It is way too much... especially with the built in OD. I cannot believe fanboys are yumming all this stuff up at premium prices... Credit to Misha for realising he could make huge dollars selling gear to them. I died seeing all the people that had bought the Precision drive AND the Tokyo drive. Get an OD808 or a TS9 and plug it into a beat up 6505 worth like $500 USD and you will get a sound as good if not better than this.

    • @a-zeemusic
      @a-zeemusic 6 лет назад +7

    To me this combo sounds like it will work well for speed metal and some djent styles of riffing. Really fast attack and chunky mid range with that scooped but tight fizz on top. Not enough low end for deathmetal or deathcore but still sounds amazeballz.

      It's the magic of Scott Burns.
      They used Marshalls and passive pickups back in those days, yet Tomb of The Mutilated sounds real fizzy and overly distorted, not typical of a Marshall. Don't know how they did it.

    You know what would be pretty awesome? Precision Drive meets Engl Savage video! I am currently driving my (slightly modified) Engl Fireball with PD and having pretty killer results, but versatility and a bit more natural sound of Savage tempts me. Would be awesome to hear some demo by you before doing a swap I'd regret.
    PS. This was frakking killer sounding, gotta love your demos!

    Filter 3/6 (looks like 11 o'clock) with volume at 2 o'clock, drive 0 and tone 1 o'clock it's absolutely crushing with the Precision Drive, doesn't sponge all the low end like a Maxon or TS9 and that filter notch makes everything sound so well behaved

    • @Boywellesley13
      @Boywellesley13 5 лет назад

      Around there seems to be the sweet spot I run mine 3/6 on attack about 1 o'clock on volume, 10-1 o'clock on tone depending on guitar and drive around 8 o' clock . He made it way to bright and shrill having the attack on 6 and the tone that high on an amp like that

    Asking the real question: if the amp has a boost and sounds massive on it's own, then what is the sense in using a drive pedal in front of it? The sound just gets buffy and swollen with too much sand. Unless you like this sort of tone, I don't see the point.

    • @808richey
      @808richey 6 лет назад +2

      Kamil Kowalczyk misha tends to use it more for clarity and not so much as a boost

    • @oskarvavtar4880

    • @NickolaiDuddits

      Kamil Kowalczyk imo its a money grab. Nothing against misha, but it just seems like another boost pedal to me. Props to him for starting his own company though.

    • @thepaganaut
      @thepaganaut 6 лет назад +1

      it's supposed to be used with the clean channel, no? i don't see the point of using an overdrive in front of a high-gain lead channel either...

    • @goddessintriptych7046
      @goddessintriptych7046 6 лет назад

      It sounds pretty bad on a clean channel. For extreme metal it can be beneficial for a variety of musical techniques to get a bit more compression from using an overdrive as a clean boost in front of a high gain amp. In recordings, a good boost pedal in front will usually sound preferable to just the amp; it's just that the Horizon Drive saps too much of the low end punch. A Maxon OD808 Drive 0 and Vol Full Tone at noon would yield much better results. I own both pedals, along with a dozen other OD pedals, for the record.

  • @jamesjin8839
    @jamesjin8839 6 лет назад

    Amp's own boost is not even needed for enough tight and gainy rhythm tone if you're doing it all right with eq gain micing and pairing with the right speaker/cabinet. I boost my 5153 sort of the reverse way with maxon od820 so I push out more low end punch while grind it hotter for higher mids cream all at the same time.

    You should use a precision drive on a crappy amp and see if it’ll improve the sound

      I have both- a crappy amp and a precision drive (as well as other med-high-end gear). The OD808 sounds better as a boost- there's not really a filter tone knob on the Precision Drive that works like what you'd find on most OD pedals, so you're pretty much stuck with that semi-hollow Precision Drive sound. Imo, it's best with the attack switch on 2/3 and the bright knob dialed way back, vol max, gain 0 - 800 o clock, but still doesn't sound as good as an OD808. The gate is kind of a neat feature, but it's nothing like Boss NS-2 or ISP Decimator 2 noisegate quality. Overall, the Precision drive isn't a bad pedal, but you'd be better served by a Maxon OD808 & ISP DecimatorII/Boss NS 2 noisegate combo (both would run you more than just a single Precision Drive (60-80 USD more), but you'd get better quality and customization for when you want a drive without a noisegate or vice versa).

      Get a Fortin Grind and Zuul noise gate. I've had the Precision Drive and it's alright but it colors everything with it's sound.

    BONUS VIDEO!!! Awesome content as always, Ola! Been looking forward to this one. So much so that...
    I MADE A BIAS AMP 2 AMP MATCH PRESET.
    I used the clip from 5:37 to 5:57. It is now on the Tone Cloud, titled "Ola Englund Peavey Invective + Precision Drive Amp Match." Now WE CAN ALL CHUNK! (well, us Bias users anyway.)

    I feel like the 5150 sounds better. Hard to tell in front of a computer. What do you think Ola?

    the guitar sound is not in mono, there's two seperate sounds playing left and right. Wich one is the Beyer? And where came the other sound you tracked? Or did you trick the sound to space it out? I'm curious :)

    Hei Ola! I've seen you demoing the Orange Dark Terror and Micro Terror, but not the Micro Dark.. Did I get all that right? Anyway, it would be cool to see how much grindy metal chuggachugga you could get out of the Micro Dark. And maybe even test the Precision Drive on it, with a noisegate?

    Since you've been on a bit of a Peavey kick lately, especially the 5150, howzabouts your thoughts on Evergrey? Especially the Recreation Day era, when I believe it was 5150 all day long and twice on Sunday.

    That amp is wicked enough w/o the precision drive. I still like them both though.

    Ola, do you know if the lead Chanel is just the 5150 sound with a boost added? Or has the lead Chanel been reworked?
