    To Misha and all the Periphery guys: I discovered you in a guitar magazine in jail. True story. If you can only imagine, there's not much to do in there and one of the other inmates happened to be receiving a subscription to some kind of Music Magazine. I don't remember which one at the moment.
    He would let me read them and because I am a Metalhead and have been playing guitar most of my life and also because I was bored out of my f****** skull, LOL, I began to write down the names of bands that I had never heard of with the intention of youtubing them when I got out of there.
    For some reason I remembered your guys band logo as being really cool and just the design alone had me wondering about you guys. I know that might sound weird, based on the design of your logo I decided that you guys might be something LOL. And I also remember that the magazine I saw you in was advertising your album Juggernaut Alpha and Omega. Fast forward to about two years ago when I got home from that wretched place, and I pull out the notebook when I had a quiet moment and begin looking through all the bands I wrote down and I found your name and looked you up on RUclips and the first video I found was Alpha.
    I cannot lie I was not the biggest fan at first LOL. I didn't quite know what to make of it but I knew the music was good it was just different. so I left it alone. but I found myself revisiting that song from time to time over the next several months and then slowly I started branching out and listening to a couple of more songs and finding your guys videos on RUclips. Not your music videos, but I was looking you guys up as guitar players and I began to see a pattern.
    Despite having a huge following you guys are so down-to-earth and so humble. Not only are you super talented, but the fact that you are constantly sharing online is just so freaking gracious of you all. I have become such a humongous fan, and I LIKE that you guys switch it up,change it up, I like it ALL. I saw your documentary about a month ago and I must say, besides you guys maybe making your singer look like a lush , (because he's really a great singer and he should have been included more in your documentary), I can't remember who said it, it might have been Mark, but one of you said that it might sound crappy, but that you guys weren't making the music for the fans but you are making it for you! And that is the most awesome statement that anyone could ever have said... period! I'm not on here licking your balls or kissing your asses, I just appreciate your music and I'm glad I discovered you guys. I think that it's awesome that you share. Music is art and it's meant to be shared. Thank you for your contribution to Art and to music and I look forward everything you guys do. It's too bad there's so many people analyzing and criticizing your music. That just makes me think that there is no bad publicity! Always going to be some kind of haters right?
    Anyway, you've got a new fan. I live in Milford Connecticut and you guys were just in New Haven in April at Toad's Place and I missed you because I had to work that night and I was so f****** bummed! I hope I get to see you guys the next time you roll through!

    You know why I like Misha, is because he doesn't over complicate these songs. Most guitar players just play a solo to show off how fast they are, which is fine but it's nice to see some variety and some soul in a solo for once.

    • @gary8396
      @gary8396 5 лет назад +78

    • @darkcashyz
      @darkcashyz 4 года назад +12

      @@kendallperkins2057 I agree. This is what people who actually tried to play this kind of genre would actually say. Their songs almost look not that hard to play, but the way they use their fingers and hands is not very usual for general guitar players. It will take you some time to get used to it and play it fluently.

    • @joey20112
      @joey20112 4 года назад +59

      I've learned the riff fine but also struggled playing it full speed. Believe it or not, it's the hardest part of the song for me. The trick is not letting your hand/wrist fatigue and I think I have discovered the secret: relax the hell out of your hand and let your motions be fluid. Press the strings down only as much as you need to achieve the note. As you're moving and stretching, make sure your thumb on the back of the neck is super loose when moving but when planted, keep it as central to the shape your fingers are extending to as this will limit how much stretching you actually have to do to reach a fret. I'm not sure if this makes sense, it's easier to demonstrate in person but don't let the speed and shape switching intimidate you, causing you to tense; focus on relaxing that hand and pressing down lightly but accurately. This technique has helped me learn the entire song (cover coming soon, hopefully) but also helped IMMENSELY with the wild shapes and sliding.

      +heedtheninja67 I for one second wanting to see Spencer sing through marigold (or any track from periphery 3 for that matter, remain indoors possibly). Also a lot can be learned about technique from watching vocalists perform up close and in a relaxed studio setting. Your comment on the supposed stupidity of Spencer doing a vocal run of the song completely contradicts the idea of wanting to see anything be performed by any musician be it online or live. If the whole world viewed music performance as narrowly as you do we would all just stay home and listen to the album. Take this concept a step further and ask, why learn songs, why play songs, why even play an instrument, it is these narrow minded beliefs of the common public that will lead to a complete collapse of creative art and cultural development. If you look back to the dawn of man millions of years ago, there is one constant in our evolution, art and creativity. From Cave paintings to P3 we can see that art fuels evolution.

      +Julian Fitzgerald you boiled that all the way down! the performance of such technical music is like extreme sports. its captivating. spencer is a great singer, i even asked him on twitter if he will be doing a "play through". his response was more or less snooty. as if he had better things to do. im sure he does.. all this "extra" content these aces put out we should be thankful for. unlike eddie van halen. when he finger tapped he would turn his back to the crowd. the music is ours and should be shared.

    Please, please, PLEASE start releasing instrumental-only versions of Periphery songs. This isn't to insult you guys or take anything away from how unbelievably talented you ALL are, BUT, I can't listen to your albums with the vocals. Your singer has a great voice, but I (personally, everyone remember this is only my opinion) really do think that your songs convey so much more emotion through the guitars, bass, drums, orchestration, etc.
    Edit - 4 years later and I'm a huge Periphery fan now that fucking loves Spencer's vocals lmao you guys are awesome \m/ Spencer is actually one of my favorite metal singers, I just hadn't given him a real chance. I'm VERY glad I did because I had been missing out on some amazing music
