    Maybe the most popular amps of all time, maybe the most numerous, Mesa's serial records show that they've made WELL over 50,000 Dual and Triple Rectos including the newer multi-watt versions. I've owned three myself, one Dual and two Triples.

    It is a pleasure to learn that you got excited because we have to dive back in that sound for making things different. I noted that many bands sound similar and that gets, copiously, machine like, or like a bunch of people that don't rely on their ears. They all go for what is written, what is told. And that divinity whispers tricks, but they are probably are not loud enough. So they must have dropped telling the ideas long ago. The 1980 and 1990 had creative methods of using sound and morphing it to something creative like what Testament did using hours in a Megaforce studio. Well, guess what? Something else was in for best and it is surely divinity again.

    Would love to hear a modern recorded Slayer cover with a recording setup similar to this. Part of the magic of the Reign In Blood atmosphere was supposedly having a room mic during guitar tracking.

    • @whiskerbiscuit6674
      @whiskerbiscuit6674 4 года назад

      I wouldn't doubt that all their albums had room mics. The difference between the albums is that they got better recording wise. You're just a fan of the old school way of doing things. Less limiting. More reverb and room sounds. Old recordings tried to capture the feel of a live band at their peak and that included flaws. With digital recording it's more about the vision of the band and you go to see the band live. Because noone buys albums. It's like film. Back in the day a lot of movies were just musicals on film, so you could get an idea of what it would be like to watch a broadway show. Then movies became their own entities. It's the same with music. The album was trying to create a live show experience, but with modern techniques you can create an entirely different experience than your live show. Both are based on the same scripts though.

      Whisker Biscuit while I don’t disagree with your whole comment, I do think that Seasons in the Abyss has truly ass sounding tones and so does God Hates Us All. And I don’t mind either album. For me the room mic coupled with decent reverb in RIB and South of Heaven just makes the whole album sound a little more cavernous and evil. I think a lot of black metal and death metal bands could stand to take a similar approach in the studio to get the point across. Some successfully do.

      @@christopherward4671 All those albums have the exact same producer. Rick Rubin. I personally thing God Hates us all is their best sounding album. They old albums from the 80's sound extremely dated to me. Way too trebly for me. Reign is OK production wise. You just like that old "Anti Newsted" thrash sound. Even then God Hates us all and Reign in blood sound very similar. Play a song back to back it's almost the same sound. I think you just aged out of a band. It's normal. The first album we listen to is how we judge every subsequent release by a band. Also how old we are when we listen to it determines how much we like it. I heard God hates us all before Reign in Blood (Devine Intervention was the first album I bought by them though), I define slayer by God hates us All. There are people who think that South of Heaven is the sound. Also South of Heaven was slower are more "satanic" sounding. So it may just be that you prefer the speed of the Reign in blood album. South of Heaven is like hymns in a Satanic Church. Seasons in the Abyss is like a blend of the two albums before it.

    It can't get any better than that. A Recto head in a Recto cab with a tube screamer. I personally like a little more gain than that, maybe set at 2-3 O'clock.

    This series is GOLD!!! I only play with real amps and I don't do any recording, so getting a sense of what a particular amp sounds like "in the room" provides me with so much more value. Also, IMO the "in the room" sounds you're getting is far superior with regards to listening to guitar tones that aren't in a mix than that of a "close-mic only" sound. Subbed!
