One of his greatest latter day songs in my opinion. I'm always amazed at how overlooked this gets. Even by Clapton's own people! You'll see songs from this time period like "Pretending", "She's Waiting", "Bad Love", and "It's In the Way That You Use It" make their way onto Greatest Hits/Anthology compilations but rarely "No Alibis". never understood that. The guitar riffing alone makes it worthy of entry!

@102332179042758893078 This is the song that I'd have wanted to see in his later day live performances. As well as Bad Love. They both have that amazingly sweet 90s rock sound.

    "No Alibis"
    Beg your pardon, hello darlin'
This is me you're talkin' to
Sit down and tell me 'bout it
You don't have to shout it at me
Tell me wha chu' really wanna' do
    Don't give me no alibis
No untrue stories, tryin' t' justify
    Don't want no alibis
Just another reason, for another lie
    (short instrumental)
    Mountain gets steeper
The hole you dig gets deeper
    You better stop, climb out
Tryin' to give it all to you
Baby I can see right through you
Sometimes you lose what it's all about
    Don't give me no alibis
Can't go through life tryin' t' justify
    Don't want no alibis
Just another reason, for another lie
    (instrumental- Eric)
    Don't give me no alibis
No untrue stories, tryin' t' justify
    Don't want no alibis
Just another reason, for another lie
    (short instrumental)
    Mountain gets steeper
The hole y' dig's gettin' deeper
Ya' better reach, an' pull yourself out
No one ever gonna love you, the way that I love you
I never wanna' see you doin' without
    Don't give me no alibis
No untrue stories, tryin' t' justify
    Don't want no alibis

People who listen to music, and down drugs ,"especially opiates, " are either hipocrytes or badly informed.
Being a professional musician, for the past 26 years. I can promise you that all the best music is written, while the writer ,"especially the music," is under the influence of some type of mind altering drug . I've found that synthetic or semi synthetic opiates have been responsible for for o er 80% of what most would call great music. It also plays a part lyrically , but I think they ,"drugs," just make the writer more prone to writing great lyrics . The saying in the business is, " Write high ,and edit sober," and that's the most truth you will ever hear concer6the muse part of music.

This song reminds me of when my husband was alive, we were in our twenties, no kids and had a ski boat. In The 80’s, on the Lake! With all of our close friends!!! I hear this last night on a radio station, driving home, singing to the top of my lungs , volume up! Damn I miss that life! I love you Eric Clapton!!! About to share this with my son!

I beg your pardon, hello darlin'
This is me you're talkin' to
Sit down and tell me about it
You don't have to shout it at me
Tell me what you really want to do
    Don't give me no alibis
No untrue stories you're trying to justify
    Don't want no alibis
Just another reason for another lie
    Mountain gets steeper
The hole you dig gets deeper
You better stop and climb out
'Cause I'm trying to give it all to you
Baby I can see right through you
Sometimes you lose what it's all about
    Don't give me no alibis
Can't go through life trying to justify
    Don't want no alibis
Just another reason for another lie
    [Repeat First Chorus]
    Mountain gets steeper
The hole you dig is getting deeper
Better reach out and pull yourself out
Nobody ever gonna love you the way that I love you
And I never want to see you doin' without
    [Repeat First Chorus 2x]

    • @cw7792
      @cw7792 8 лет назад +1

+Steven Carinci FYI two attributed reasons why he's called Slowhand
1 the speed of the playing
2 when he broke guitar strings during live performances the audience used to do a slow hand clap whilst he fitted the new string on stage

This song really lifts me up and when i need a slight attitude adjustment, this is one of the songs. A groove so deep that it could swallow Everest. Some of Mr. Clapton's most powerfully beautiful playing. That, boys and girls, is how it's done. And the "calling you out" lyric content? Withering.
