Pilgrim is one of the best Clapton's albums imho, the groove and the sound he experiments in this album has no other replicas in others he made.. so underrated and so wonderful, this morning I've listened to River of tears and I've listened to all the album. Masterpiece.

This song is a masterpiece. Everything went together. The music, the beats, lyrics and the voice was so perfect. Every time I play this song, I have to listen to it twice. Can you imagine he do this song for 10 minutes. I wonder what he would add to it. He keep adding music on top of the same music almost throughout the whole song. Amazing!
You just do not get better than this. Eric Clapton just grows and grows with each song. This CD is a pure lesson of reaching into your soul and giving back the heartache and strength that lives in each of us. Just one more reason why I love his music and his heart!
Whenever I Watched Lethal Weapon 4, I Always Listened To The Ending Credits Just To Hear This Song. Some Songs You Enjoy, And Others You Fell In Love With. Like This One.
Inexplicably slipped under the radar this one and hardly registered, but what a blinding track - loved this guy’s music for decades but this remains my favourite - just so simple and magical and when it’s all getting too much to bear I’ll always reach for this track - it never fails to sooth and heal and I’ll never tire of hearing it - so glad others rate it so highly as well, thought it was just me - thanks for posting.
I don't care what anyone says, Pilgrim is a phenomenal album! I was 13 when it came out and just picking up a guitar, I've been a HUGE fan ever since. That album is pure heart and Clapton's best.
he, his playing, and the structure of this song reminds me of Curtis Mayfield . very smooth, very rhythmic and very soulful. i close my eyes and he even sings similar to Curtis. a very nice song from a talented musician. one of my favorites.
You should say...Curtis Mayfield reminds you of Eric Clapton, since Clapton is the way better performerand WAY MORE FAMOUS! With so many great hits that everone knows !!

Underrated record.... A lot of the great artists of the 60's 70's music was slept on during the late 80's and through as their fan bases become older, less interested / more busy with the big things in life and the pop charts went full blown grunge / gangster hip hop. So records like this went somewhat under the radar as werent appreciated by the younger audience and perhaps too far removed from earlier material to be appreciated by the older generation. Personally always loved the record and nice to hear the blues man go soulful.
I agree with the person that said this should have been a hit.... What a great song. And such a deep meaning.... Eric pulled it off again. Excellent!!!

Hard to believe this album came out almost 15 years ago. Clapton tried hard on this album and it is very underrated. I would like to see him come out with one more original popular hit. He's still got it.
A brilliant song by a brilliant artist. "Pilgrim" is my favorite of Eric Clapton's CD's--it's edgy, soul-searching and threads each song together with an artistry only Mr. Clapton could achieve. This man matches his extraordinary guitar work with incredible lyrics and vocals. Pure genius--there's just no other way to put it!!
I love the fact that this song and Eric's steps meander along and then we get to enjoy that powerful climax at the end......what great strumming! He really is a master artist.
I heard this song for the first time in 1999 and I instantly fell in love with it! I was two-stepping in a club and I was groovn but this song makes you groove!
Its amazing how many problems women give us but for Mr. Clapton to sing such a beautiful song. I guess they aren't as bad as we think. I watched lethal weapon and heard this about 5 or 6 years ago and it still has the soil it had when I first heard it.

How many guitarists are capable and innovative enough to get the bluesy "woman tone" on full treble and modest gain, incorporate a black motown roots hook (in two notes) over a hip-hop beat, gospel chorus, and then salute those who inspired you to perfect the skill of expressing your emotion with a simple run played with the perfection of a Swiss watch?
