My Patriot is still going "strong". Nearly 200,000 KM's or 125,000 miles. Doesn't use oil and no leaks anywhere. I am slightly concerned about the transmission but it is only a gut feeling about its performance and nothing diagnosed. I do the hood and all door hinges too and there is no rust to be found anywhere. The 5 spoke rims have never seen a single snow flake so they look brand new. I use only Mobile 1 synthetic from Canadian Tire when it’s on sale and then take it to Chrysler for the oil change where they add the oil filter, labour and disposal fee for about $34.00. The creaking suspension disappear but often returns and it’s a constant battle but I love my Patriot. I’ve piled so much stuff into that vehicle over the years and the fact the front passenger seat folds flat is an absolute genius design. I was second owner on my 2012 Latitude. Transmission started overheating around 90-95k. This would happen on very warm summer days while driving for a few hours at highway speeds. Would have to pull over and let the car run in neutral to cycle the fluid without putting it in gear. Finally changed the fluid and the 2 filters (thanks youtube tutorials), which seemed to take care of the issue. No other problems with it other than small/normal things. Paint also held up extremely well. Was a great entry-level SUV with very nice features at the price point.

If your going to buy one... avoid the CVT like the plague. Same goes for most CVTs of the era, im not just picking on the Patriot. The only ones I would buy used are the ones with the Automatic transmission. The automatic Tranny was originally designed for the KIA sedona, a much heavier vehicle. Unfortunately they only made them with the auto transmission towards the end, and it was optional..... so they are in the minority.
They didn't "only make them automatics at the end." Even in its last model year, you could get the Patriot with either a 5 or 6 speed manual, a 6 speed auto, or a CVT. If you're going to get one, the 5 speed manual T355 is the most reliable. It was designed by Mercedes-Benz. The 6 speed manual is a Fiat-Chrysler design and has a lot of problems.
I have a 2014 Patriot I bought brand new. My first tow was the throttle body getting stuck, and a rear hub failed recently that set off the ABS alarms, eventually I had to pull over. At 68'000 miles people keep asking me when I'm going to sell it?, or they've offered to buy it outright. I'll probably keep up to 100K miles.
@@ElantraFukkenGang the car caught almost caught on fire. It has had a lot of complications. I met many Jeep patriot owner that had the same thing happened to them
A CVT does NOT have a “wider range of gears” it has a single gear that changes ratio depending on the throttle body position. Please do not speak on things you have 0 idea about 😭. Anyone looking for a patriot never get below a 2015, and make sure it has the 6 speed Hyundai automatic or a 5 speed manual transmission. The CVT in the patriot is a Nissan/Jatco CVT and is VERY VERY prone to failure before even 75k miles. Buyers beware
Been around since the turn of the 20th century, but successfully first commercially mass produced by DAF of the Netherlands,it's a glorified elastic band on a centrafugal coned wheel. Why so hostile to the video maker? He was probably just avoiding the unnecessary mechanical explanation.
@@sirboomsalot4902 and I have a 2008 that is nothing but a lemon 🍋 and has cost me 3 times the amount I paid for it in repairs during the FIRST YEAR that I owned it. I sure wish I had researched how horrible these vehicles are before I bought one. I will NEVER own another Jeep EVER again after what this piece of junk has put me through. Wait until this guy finds out about the recall on the rear sub/K frame or the million other problems it's about to incur as the miles pile on. You'll see. You'll all see if you decide to keep this pile of rust and bolts past 80,000 miles or so. 🤬😠😡😤🤯🤦
@@sirboomsalot4902 the 2014 is the first year of the 6 speed auto. You made a good choice. Just keep up with your maintenance. Oil change every 3 thousand miles, spark plugs every 30k, bearings every 50k. Keep up with it and your patriot will last atleast 175k
I bought an 07 Compass 4x4 with the 2.4 and CVT with only 80k miles for super cheap and it has actually been really reliable for me. I had the alternator go out because I installed subs and the factory one couldn't handle it and then I had and issue with an aftermarket security system, but other than that, it hasn't had any issues at all. Does need sway bar links.
Ha just wait, you're about to find out just how horribly these Jeep were engineered. My 08 has had ENDLESS issues as soon as it hit 80-90 thousand miles. My advice to you is GET RID OF IT unless you've got 10 grand just lying around to make all the necessary repairs.
I would say hard no. Rare to see them with that high if miles. If moneys tight I’d recommend an older Toyota. They are known to be reliable with that high of miles but a patriot is a far more of a risk at that mileage
Had a clutch go out at 60k miles Throw out bearing go out at 120k miles. Had $2k+ in repairs on that Now at 157k miles I have a transmission fluid leak which lead to transmission damage. Waiting to hear back on pricing on those repairs. I want to like the vehicle, but fuck… Chrysler, you have to build a more reliable transmission. This is ridiculous
I have a 2016 Patriot with automatic headlights but no EVIC. Models with the evic have the ability to have the headlights activated automatically with the windshield wipers, which is law in many states. Is there a "code cheat" that exists to enable non-EVIC Patriots with automatic headlights to activate them with the windshield wipers?
I'm in love with the look of this car and I'm on a budget I'm looking to get an 08 model for my first car in 2022 and I don't know if this is a good idea or not? Is it expensive to run?
Gas mileage on mine averages 10 litres per 100 KM or 23 MPG so fuel consumption is not too bad. To date I've only had to do general maintenance like oil changes, brakes and tires so that cost has been lower than average I think.
My 2008 has been nothing but problems. One after another and now the mechanics at the Jeep dealership cant even figure out what's wrong with it. The 2008s have a recall on the rear sub/K frame because it rusts completely through and basically your entire rear end will basically fall off the chassis.
Got 14 4x4 manual transmission with 151k miles, I replaced the support bearings on the transmission. Was not hard just took time, the previous owner had these tiny lug nut tight to over 250 lbs crazy. I'm going to replace front hub assembly because bearings are pressed in its, cheap to just replace everything, iv also have new front axles and a new clutch although it's not necessary I'm just going to upgrade it, I'm also going to replace back axles and bearings as well.all these parts are very inexpensive just need mechanical abilities which I have it's a very nice vehicle I can't complain. The ac doesn't work but it's not really a problem, overall it's a decent quality ride
If you want to make patriot ride like luxary replace the front spring with corola spring it will lower the ride by 2inchs but it will cancel out some bump on the road. If you add 400lb weight to the center of the car I'll surprised you.
I believe the service manual states 60,000 miles/100,000 KM. Frankly, I've never changed mine and I'm almost afraid to now. I've heard that at some point the materials in the fluid are what's holding everything together. 😀 No slippage so far from mine.
The Freedom Drive I that you have is a full time auto 4wd. You do not have to turn the 4wd on to use it, it is always ready to engage the rear axle when the magic pixies see fit. See the following video explaining how the system works: m.ruclips.net/video/WpJzVwf9XUE/видео.html
Sell it as quickly as you can and make it someone else's problem. I have an 08 with around the same amount of miles and it's been nothing but major issue after major issue.
My 2014 4x4 with 73,000 on it is having trouble smoothly accelerating from 50mph: tending to jerk when give it gentle throttle. Anyone have any thoughts?
No, I would only buy these with 50k or less. NEVER buy a car with over 100k. You’re going to end up paying more than the car was worth brand new in repairs.
I'm not sure why all of the comments on this video are positive ones, but the 2008 Jeep Patriot I own has had nothing but MAJOR problem after major problem, all of which I fixed until the electrical system went and even highly experienced mechanics at the dealership can't seem to figure out wth is wrong with it. ⚠ WARNING ⚠ DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE VEHICLES USED WITH OVER 50,000 MILES ON IT, YOU WILL REGRET IT. 🤯🤦😤😡😠🤬
This person comment aligns with the opinions of many credible mechanics. I am not nor was an owner of a Patriot, however, I know the CVT is horrible. And their are many negative comments about it. Obviously some people will get a winner like this guy.
If it's an automatic, make sure it's had the transmission fluid changed every 40 or 50k miles. If not, set aside another 2 grand for a new transmission. Otherwise, just get one with the 5 speed manual.

If you're going to get one, the 5 speed manual T355 is the most reliable. It was designed by Mercedes-Benz. The 6 speed manual is a Fiat-Chrysler design and has a lot of problems.
@@RockandrollNegro they only came with 5 speed manual, no 6 speeds. Please don’t talk blindly 🙂
@@RockandrollNegro His wording is a little off, but I think he meant to say they only *started* making them with automatics toward the end
Very thorough review. 👍👏
Thanks! 👍
And very misinformed

I have a 2014 Patriot I bought brand new. My first tow was the throttle body getting stuck, and a rear hub failed recently that set off the ABS alarms, eventually I had to pull over. At 68'000 miles people keep asking me when I'm going to sell it?, or they've offered to buy it outright. I'll probably keep up to 100K miles.
Mine has 200 k miles my first car and I want to see how many miles I can get it to
yup throttle bodies notoriously go out on these, and all other jeep dodge chrysler products around that time. cheap and easy fix though
@@leilapaulino8575 I’ll put money on 250k
@@ElantraFukkenGang the car caught almost caught on fire. It has had a lot of complications. I met many Jeep patriot owner that had the same thing happened to them
Why do ppl put music in the background ? It's distracting if you are really trying to listen...
Does the front non-driver seat go forward-FLAT., so that a 6' tall person could sleep in this?

I have a 2014 with the 6 speed automatic that’s been good to me so far
@@sirboomsalot4902 and I have a 2008 that is nothing but a lemon 🍋 and has cost me 3 times the amount I paid for it in repairs during the FIRST YEAR that I owned it. And now it's going to the junk yard with about 8 Grand worth of new parts on it because it's a piece of crap just like the person who started this comment thread is warning people about.
Thanks for sharing!
Ha just wait, you're about to find out just how horribly these Jeep were engineered. My 08 has had ENDLESS issues as soon as it hit 80-90 thousand miles. My advice to you is GET RID OF IT unless you've got 10 grand just lying around to make all the necessary repairs.
Should I buy one used
Is that a bong in the back area?
For some reason emergency stop lights don't work ,but in turning mode they work.
Did somebody has same problems and how got it fixed?
Looking at getting a 2012 version for my first car.
I hope you find a good, reliable one. Easy to drive.
Im looking at a 2008 2.4 with 50000 miles on clock
Is it work to buy a 170k miles? Getting it cheap at auction
I would say hard no. Rare to see them with that high if miles. If moneys tight I’d recommend an older Toyota. They are known to be reliable with that high of miles but a patriot is a far more of a risk at that mileage
@@mikeandrews745 wise advise
Great vid, were did you get the mudguards?
Thanks. Those mudguards were a dealer installed option.
Had a clutch go out at 60k miles
Throw out bearing go out at 120k miles. Had $2k+ in repairs on that
Now at 157k miles I have a transmission fluid leak which lead to transmission damage.
Should try Diesel (VW 2.0 TDI), tnat one is winner!
@19 Minutes you sure can hear the engine. Sounds a bit loud.
Music is distracting
Mundane man I just Subscribe your channel well I just bought a fixd item to plug in the ubd can't find it.
My son has it
2010 patriot north ed. 210k miles for $2200 USD is it worth it?
Price seems okay. Hard to tell without looking. It has been my experience that the tranny might be getting warn out. Look for subframe rust too.
Hi I am going to buy a Jeep Patriot 2011 2x4. Is it okay to still run it on beach ? And How's the performance on long driving? Thank you.
They're horrible vehicles don't buy one you'll regret it.
I'm looking at a 2015 Patriot Sport 5-spd manual being sold for just under $5k with 161,000 miles. Do I have anything to worry about?
Just make sure it has previous service records and new spark plugs. Should be mint
Thinking of getting a used 2015 with about 200k on it. Is it worth getting that used? Wondering how long it will hold up
Got 14 4x4 manual transmission with 151k miles, I replaced the support bearings on the transmission.
How often should I change the CVT transmission fluid? I have a jeep patriot, 2014
I believe the service manual states 60,000 miles/100,000 KM. Frankly, I've never changed mine and I'm almost afraid to now. I've heard that at some point the materials in the fluid are what's holding everything together. 😀 No slippage so far from mine.
I just bout one for $2,350 its a 2008...189k miles i hope i didnt make a bad choice:(

Take it to a mechanic you Neanderthal. Common sense exists you know.
Just bought 07 with 111k an it leaking oil an suggestion on what it could be
Sell it as quickly as you can and make it someone else's problem. I have an 08 with around the same amount of miles and it's been nothing but major issue after major issue.
My 2014 4x4 with 73,000 on it is having trouble smoothly accelerating from 50mph: tending to jerk when give it gentle throttle. Anyone have any thoughts?
My 2016 was jerking with acceleration, I changed the spark plugs and that solved it.
@@Run-GNC I have heard the same thing. I'm going to replace mine, as well.
throttle bodies go out on these things pretty early so that might be it too. Also what Michael said, spark plugs for sure

Spark plugs homie. Gotta be changed every 30k

2010 jeep patriot tiembla de 30 al 50
I have a question I am about to buy a jeep with 147,000 would you recomend getting it?
No, I would only buy these with 50k or less. NEVER buy a car with over 100k. You’re going to end up paying more than the car was worth brand new in repairs.
Good advice.
My 2010 says 4wd but there is no button or thing to pull its weird
Also how TF do it go 240mph mine goes 120 😂I want that one
240 kph, which is about 150 mph. Also, if yours doesn't have the 4WD transfer bar switch in the console, then you don't have 4WD, you have FWD.
Knock on wood, good car.
Not fast, replacing parts doesnt require hands the size of baby.

2011 for $3k 170k miles is it worth it ?
I just found one 2011 with 160k miles at $2500. I'm hearing the CVT transmission ones don't buy.
If it's an automatic, make sure it's had the transmission fluid changed every 40 or 50k miles. If not, set aside another 2 grand for a new transmission. Otherwise, just get one with the 5 speed manual.
