  • With the Patriot and Compass models becoming increasingly hot on the used market, a little ownership update on our model could help others out!
This is out 2012 Jeep Patriot Limited with 130,000 Miles - Not quite as dramatic of ownership as the Commander but still a few hiccups.

I have a 2015 Patriot Sport 4x4. Just hit 50,000 kms (31,000 miles) and no serious issues. The heat stopped working when it was 2 years old (fixed under warranty) and sometimes the air flow gets stuck blowing from top of the dash (even if I change it to dash vents or feet it wont budge for days).
It sucks on gas but other than that I love it. Looks better than any other small SUV on the roads that all look like bubble alien ships

Thanks for your review. Your review caught my attention because of the milage. I have a 2008 Jeep Patriot North 4x2 4.2L 5spd manual (CAN) with a little more milage than yours (136K), power everything, tinted windows. I got it quite inexpensive requiring some work on the front end suspension, brakes and transmission. It's peppy. It's great on a two or three hour straight highway drive. Super comfy..

I'm currently at 129,000 miles on my 2014 Jeep Patriot with a 2.4 l and 6-speed automatic transmission. I bought this vehicle new and I am the original owner. The only thing that I've done to it is: regular maintenance and replace the front control arms (not that I think I needed it but Pennsylvania does a vehicle safety inspection and they try to nickel and dime you). And I chose to replace the rear struts at around 100,000 miles but they didn't particularly need it. I paid $24,000 for this vehicle out the door. 8 years later I really can't complain.

They're pretty nice budget-level SUV's. The Limited/High Altitude models have pretty much everything aside from the better sound system (but the 4 door speakers are all 6X9s and easy to replace with whatever you want, and the door speaker grilles pry right off without having to remove the door panels). I am considering one for my next vehicle (I currently drive an '02 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4X4, and still want to stay within the Jeep family). BTW, that Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl paint is the same paint on my dad's '14 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4X4. It's a stunning color, much better than the Velvet Red Crystal Pearl paint that replaced it. I do think the seat centers in the Patriot Limiteds ARE real leather, but ONLY the inserts, as the rest of the seats are vinyl-trimmed.

So me and my Mom and Dad are going vehicle shopping and at my local CarMax they have a 2015 Jeep Patriot Sport for $15,000 dollars and has 43,000 miles on it. I bought a 2016 Sport FWD CVT in 2018, with 37k miles on it. It was a rental car before I bought it. It's got 108k now and it's been an extremely reliable car. Only thing worth mentioning is I had a slight engine oil leak at around 85k, but nothing that made the car not drivable. Just make sure to follow the maintenence schedule in your owners handbook. If you have a CVT, get the fluid changed at 60k intervals instead of the 120k the manual recommends, it's definitely the weak link. I bought mine Certified Pre- owned and that came with its own warranty, but I was able to buy a lifetime powertain plan for an extra $800 or so which is avaliable to buy up until a certain mileage, I think 70k. Definitely worth it because if the CVT goes out, that's a 3-6k fix/replacement.

The fear about owning an 'ex rental' are often times overblown.
I've seen ex rentals which had a better life in their first 25k miles of life than they had in 'private owners' hands in the rest of their 75k miles of their life.
