Once it's time to call in all the debts and liquidate all assets- whatever we did to the snek we were really doing to ourselves. I feel bad sometimes for eating meat but people who are vegetarian seem to be lacking essential components of the brain. Less thinking more maniacal and passive aggressive hazard I dont know if the answer is very simple lol even tho Jesus said his burden is easy and his yoke is light. Animals will be born and live. Back in the 90's I had a rescued BP named Lucy. Because of where we lived her sheds would be great one time and not so great the next. If she had stuck shed, she would sit perfectly still as I pealed the dead skin off, as though she liked me doing it, LOL. She really wouldn't move while I was doing it. Once I stopped then she'd start moving about again.
    Although I rescued her from horrible living conditions (an RI that nearly k*lled her) she was so forgiving and was such a sweet, sweet girl. She changed a lot of hearts & minds about snakes.

      The only argument against it, that I have heard, is that those snake shedding videos are dangerous because uninformed people could see that and do it when their snake isn't fully ready to shed. None of the people I saw discussing this said that it's a problem when the skin is ready to come off. To me this just seems like NERD is making a mountain out of a molehill tbh. I also don't understand why they have to be so arrogant about something that obviously wasn't malicious.

      But only an idiot would do something that they don’t know how to do.
      Not only that, but NERD was getting copious amounts of hate and whiney comments because of heroin addict pet hoarder Taylor Nicole dean who was saying that helping all snakes shed is bad. Therefore her little minion army who follow around a little girl who doesn’t even have a quarter’s worth of experience in comparison to NERD unleashed on NERD. So if you had seen all the obnoxiously ignorant comments they received you would see that they’re justified in making this video and mentioning that they actually HAVE the experience to back up those claims. I don’t think they’re being arrogant I think they’re frustrated that some little addict girl’s channel of minions think they know better than someone who has thousands of snakes and years upon years of experience. (Oh and before anyone says no she’s not a heroin addict! She admitted it herself on her own channel)

    I have a pile of my snake's shed skins, every once and a while I'll get to assist one of my snakes while it sheds and it doesn't bother my snakes at all as far as I can tell. Usually they shed at night though since most of my animals are ball pythons and they are cryptic so I'll usually find the shed in the morning when I'm doing visual inspections. All of these people acting like snakes need to be treated like hemophiliacs with tissue paper skin are clearly misinformed. I'm not talking about using your snake as a jump rope but on every video where the person is simply keeping the animal from falling off the viewing surface by lightly tapping the snakes head causes people to mouth poop their uneducated accusations.

In those cases I’ll soak her to hydrate it and try to peel some of the looser skin to encourage her to want to shed her skin and it works. I used to pull the shed out of my Bearded Dragons nostrils (RIP). I could tell when it was ready when it was ready to come out when I could put my finger nails under the circle and lift it. The piece of skin attached was always super long and he seemed sooo relieved 😌

    I have definitely taken a small piece of shed off on my ball python when the rest of the shed came off. You can clearly see the difference between a snake that just started to go into blue and has completed the shed with a few stragglers. No harm in helping.

    I love your content donny and I love Kevin's attitude. About the snake shedding, do you not think there would be a lot more squirming or even a nip or 2. They're in captivity so they can get stuck sheds eye caps you name it. I was terrified of snakes a year ago and I've been thinking about getting lil ball

    My snakes love for me to help them shed, especially my biggest female. It's like a massage to them. They rub against my hand the same way a dog or cat does when it wants to be scratched. Sometimes I rub vitamin E on them and it loosens up the skin.
    Stuck shed can also become hardened if left that way too long and then it can be really hard to get off.

    I have a rescue ball python, even I first got her she had a ton of stuck shed and both stuck eyecaps (luckily she didn't go blind) and a light (to high of watts and wasn't meant for a snake) was cooking her alive. I've had a for a few months and she's had 2 sheds with me, I give her a lot of humidity, she has both a deep water dish and a humidity box, yet she still gets some stuck shed, but her last shed she only had one stuck piece.

    Hello! I'm not a reptile keeper or anything but I've come because of the commotion about helping shedding. So you CAN help snakes shed after they start? Where did the idea come about that you can't do that? Can you touch snakes before they are ready to shed? I googled and it seems that you can't but I'm very confused now.

    Question about the A&P lesson from Kevin. Do snakes have serous fluid, (that's what this nurse is calling it), or what Kevin called "sticky" & "very protein", between their skins when they're opaque, or is there a serous membrane under the good new skin when they're not in shed, or both?

    • @NewEnglandReptile
      @NewEnglandReptile  4 года назад

      Celeste they build a new layer beneath the old one Not a membrane but a skin being built.

    • @Littlewings1211
      @Littlewings1211 4 года назад

      Just while they're in shed as far as I am aware. They secrete the fluid which is what actually makes them opaque or blue, which loosens the old skin while "preparing" the new skin layer and once it is ready the old layer peels off. That's roughly how I understand it anyway, but I'm no Kevin 😂
