Pleasure. Ideally you want to choose a platform where the hosting is included.. for tours that change a lot, like real estate listings, Matterport is fine though. I also cover this a bit in the course :)

HA HA -- running and hiding behind a pillar. We've all done something like that. I shot an historical home exterior, and told the police beforehand what I was doing, knowing I would be running behind the bushes. Nice video - I just may check them out. Thanks for it.

Pricing is really for real estate only. As you said Ben, once real estate is sold, you delete space and have free space for another one. But for other customers, say hotels, it does not make sense. They pay you once, but you have to keep space forever... Crazy...

Its interesting you mention the hosting issue. For a customer like the one in this video where the tour will clearly be permanently hosted on their website, how do you go about 'passing the torch' of their data? most of the software I've used so far cost me money to continue hosting the links to keep their access active, so I was curious how you went about handing things off once you're done with the customer.
You can take the access to the URL down so the model can't be viewed by the public. You can also delete the model from your login BUT Matterport claims the rights to the data for 10 years, so if you want it completely gone, the answer from Matterport is No.
@@Cloudtalahari The intent isn't to make it 'go away'. It's to deliver the data to the customer much like the service provided for the tour in this video. My point is, how do I transfer ownership of the tour? Do they have to set their own account up on whatever tour software I create the tour on? Or is there another solution people use to deliver the tours without ongoing hosting expenses being incurred.
@@omgitsrawz933 Ross Snyder Ah ok I understand. In general it depends on the pricing arrangement but as there is a subscription requirement from Matterport, that is the main cost to factor in. So whether the owner of the business or the cameraman is the one with the login, there's still the ongoing subscription to pay for. Treat it like a domain or website hosting subscription. The owner doesn't need to create a Matterport account to access it. All of these types of tours require ongoing subscriptions. My company has been doing Matterport scans for a while now and we are deploying a self hosted service option in early 2020 so customers can have complete control. But ofcourse all comes down to cost and what the customers wants and needs. Are you looking to do some scans?
@@Cloudtalahari I am looking for an option to no longer own a customers data once the services have been rendered. Typically with any sort of design service, this is a transfer of final data. In the instance of these virtual tour software options (Matterport and otherwise), typically they only provide a link to a final product to view or embed, not a download or a file per se. I was wondering if that was limited to the services I'd used so far, or if everyone in the industry was stuck either passing off a subscription to their customer, or managing the subscription themselves.
Ok cool so your looking at a similar structure to something like a wedding photographer handing over photos once paid? I guess the thing that is harder is that the 3D model requires hosting on a server for it to function as required and most people don't have or know how to run those themselves. Hence subscription models which incorporate an AWS hosting cost for example are the most common. But I understand the angle you are coming from and I think the option should still be available to customers that actually do know how to run their own services. Or further still, have the files stored on an SSD when handed over to the paying customer, the customer can then choose what to do with it. Main reason for AWS hosting for example is high availability so the service will run anywhere. But I think we can provide more options, which is why we will be deploying our service in 2020 covering all these options.
Cool video, that's a good thing Matterport opened their tool to other cameras.
How does it get accurate distances from photos though ? Don't you have to specify some measurements of your own for the processing ?
It does it through 3D mapping.. the same technology that puts together the ‘dollhouse’ effect- it sees points of commonality (e.g. the front door) and calculates distance based on seeing that same thing from multiple perspectives

LOL!!! Matterport opening their tool for other cameras is insane. This thing is insane (in a positive way); definitely something to try for a beginner/intermediate but pity it's not the most obvious thing for permanent tours and may not be the best thing for experimenting.

I made those videos about Cupix years ago, and as I mentioned in the opening, Matterport haven’t been compatible with 360 cams until just recently

Great as always, can you use the One R like the One X to do the same virtual tours? Matterport says no, as they do not support the new One R and do not plan too.

Ben. I currently have the Matterport camera and have had amazing success with it. Can you explain please when opening up the Matterport app how it recognizes the Theta or a ONEX please?
Congrats! You simply just connect the cam to your phone’s WiFi, and set it up within the Capture app.
If there is no Wifi singal on the property, can the camera still connected to the phone's app?

Great and clear video Ben. I was wondering if you knew if the insta360 one r would work with Matterport software seeing that the One-X is replaced by the One-R. It's not in their supported camera list... will it be something in the future that Matterport/insta360 would include?
Unfortunately not yet :(
Try 3DVista sometime and see what you think. You can add videos of the exterior & interior, photos, hot spots, sound, outside 360 photos and other features. You can also upload to their server for a fee or you can use your own website with not addition cost.
Does it allow manual uploading for editing your own photos?
Tried it. It's one of the worst written pieces of software ever. Pano2vr and PTgui though are a great combination for tours, especially doing high end dslr/hdr shoots

Hi Ben, great tutorial! You mentioned that the problem with Matterport is hosting the tours for a long time for clients like gyms, restaurants, offices etc that generally want their tour hosted forever. Matterport is clearly great for real estate since you can archive the tour once the property is sold, but what is the best solution for hosting tours for extended time? I would imagine these businesses would prefer to not pay you a monthly or yearly hosting fee once they already paid you once to create the tour. Are there good free platfroms that businesses can use to host their tours that you create for them? I was looking at Kuula and their Pro version, but not sure if it will allow a business to have a free account and still host and share a tour. Any suggestions?

What I like about the Z1 is the ability to shoot in RAW and then edit the 360 image in lightroom. Looks like they still don't allow manual uploads? Whats the second best software that can do photogrammetry whilst also allowing manual uploads?

I've just successfully completed my first tour in Matterport using the Ricoh Theta Z1. But I've got 2 questions :
1) when using the iPad to trigger the shutter. Should I wait till processing is finished or can I move into camera field directly after I hear the shutter sound?
2) Should I make many 3D scans (more than navigation points) to get a good 3D model and hide the points I don't want to show up in the navigation or should I just use the points I think I will need?
Great Video, Just got my Bushman Monopod and I see you have 2 weights on the bottom, any advantages to having 2 besides its more stable on the floor. Is it worth it having 2 weights?

Awesome video Ben. Question: Sounds like there is no post phase where you can edit the photos, color correct, balance, etc. Is there a way to do it? It looks like the sample before the F45 and after the F45 house walkthrough looks SO much better and looks like it's been processed. How are you able to do that before stitching everything?
Unfortunately you can’t, and it depends on the camera you’re using as Matterport handles each camera differently. It tries it’s best, but usually the end result isn’t as good as if you did have control, as well as the ability to shoot manually 👍

Hello ben and thank you for this awesome explaining video. I would like to ask about the image quality of 3d tour with the Richo theta Z1. With Z1 is the overall 3d tour quality near to the matterport pro camera? I saw some 3tours with the insta 360 and I am not happy at all with results. Is the Z1 worth buying for this job?
Thanks- so yes Z1 will be a level up from One X, and Matterport will be a level up yet again. It’s the best option for this kind of scanning but it’s limiting as you can only use it within the Matterport ecosystem 👍
Hi Ben....GREAT video!! I haven't purchased any camera yet....and I was wondering if the Z1 is $600 better than the Insta X one? I know the 1" sensor sounds fantastic....and the images should be better....but..... $600 better? Primary use will be for tours.

Another great video, moving into the wanting to really do this and get the virtual tour course. I am curious how 'bad' using the Theta V over the Z1 would be (or if the insta one x is an upgrade to the V). Since all I have is the V ... seems like it would be okay when using matterport since it doesn't let you edit photos anyway, and I recall the Theta V hdr being not *too* bad. Though you hit the nail on the head, hosting is an issue especially when wanting to do tours for more permanent places like your example with this client above.

please tell me how to make a tour if there are a lot of doors and when they are open there is a distortion of space behind them, take a few pictures with open and closed doors?
Other con I found was when you shoot, it didn't seem to keep the shots on the camera, so couldn't use in another tour software
....right, thats why i only used matterport once....the panos are "gone"...you can not use them for any other software/tour. ...and you can not edit your shots...

Hi, this is not the case, im going onto a ship today to capture and had to do a test so i captured my home.
All of the images where captured and saved on my Z1.
Ive now uploaded to Pc to build an Agisoft photoscan model.

I went to their website and they clearly state that the dollhouse is not available for iPhone or theta z. Did I miss something? Thanks for the video. Z1 will be my next purchase for real estate.

You cant get 3D point cloud data from any of the 360 cameras right? which kind sucks now because they charge 39 for the matterpak bundle but you need pro or pro 2

Is it possible to export data to be used in other programs, such as 3D model data into something bim related? It already generates a point cloud if it can measure.
Good question- I’m pretty sure it can, although I don’t know the exact process. They have a really good help center on their site that should explain the process 👍
Anything Matterport is restricted to the Matterport ecosystem only unfortunately. 😢

@@Sirant100 , Cupix can export your 3D tour to PLY and OBJ format. To download your 3D tour in those formats, go to the Overview tab and click the cloud icon labeled download 3D data. Keep in mind that you can download the data when your 3D tour has 3D mesh. This option may not be available if you turn on the option 'Do not generate 3D mesh' when you upload photos/videos.

Prices should change according to countries... For example, it is 9.99$ , in Turkey it is 60 TRY which is huge amount of money.. Matterport should consider it.

You can’t change any settings unfortunately
is there anyway to "increase" quality of the scan ?? while using Insta360 One X
certain settings in the camera itself or HDR will not allow us to change any of it, or matterport app for that matter
So does matterport allow to use any other bracketing in 2021? So I just have to go to the location and get the pictures done and it does the rest by itself?.. looking forward for an answer
Thank you for sharing. Do you own the images you produce with this camera when using the Matterport platform or Matterport will own the images like they do when the images are shot with Matterport Camera? Also, do you have to keep paying Matterport membership in order to keep accessing your portfolio? Are you able to upload the virtual tour you create using rebut system into your pc for offline use? I know that in the case of using Matterport camera if one day the user stops paying to access the platform all portfolio your is gone... you can’t no longer access.
Matterport keeps it all though, and I’m pretty sure it makes use of all files to resell and profit since they own all the rights of people’s work.
Any ideas on how to make this software work with the GoPro Max?

Hi Ben, Im using the Ricoh Theta V. I noticed I can change camera settings throughout the Theta App (EV, HDR, ETC) bout I don't see a place to change settings while using Matterport App. Any suggestions?

As a brand new Z1 user, it makes me happy to read this. Ben, your videos were the thing I needed to go out and buy one. I used to shoot cylindrical QTVR 20 years ago, and my mind is blown that all it takes for a spherical photo is to push a button now.
