The main issue with matterport is the subscription-only ownership. You can buy the camera, but you don't own the photos and virtual spaces. Gotta pay a sub fee per active space (even just to share with others.). There is a huge untapped market for a company to just sell cameras with the ability to own the photos
So am I correct in saying, you can't just buy the camera and upload the scan data to software on your own computer? You need to have a subscription to use their upload cloud space?
On that note, I’m making a real estate 360 video using 360 Pano Photos. I was actually wanting to add a Zoom transition mimicking if a person walks into the room or if a Remote control Rover drives the 360 camera into the rooms. I’m assuming this won’t work because it will distort the 360 image??? I just wanted to simplify my process and not use a Rover. Any recommendations?

Thank you Ben! As a long time Wedding, Events, and Food photographer, I've been dabbling and training with real estate now and of course the whole 3D tour aspect very quickly came up. The options, similar to your video, are just that - Matterport or everything else. I've now successfully been able to process a partial home test and have it successfully upload. Looks super good for still learning their best practices but thank you for also covering the nitty-gritty of pricing models. Since I'll be focusing on real estate, like you said, tours go up, the home sells, it comes down so I find that flexibly growing into their plans may work best for me. Subbed! EXCELLENT video ;).

Ben, we are Architects. We need an ability to accurately measure existing conditions - more accurately than real estate agents. We would want to be able to 'transcribe' the info into our design software. Great video, thank you for the excellent coverage! I'm about halfway through VTP, and Matterport certainly seems like a compelling option for my needs. In the meantime, it hasn't hurt to own a few shares of their stock (to put towards their camera someday, perhaps 😁).
Awesome video as usual. Can you export any of the floor plans or dollhouse in a format that can be brought in to Sketchup? For example if you wanted to model moving walls or adding additions to the house, etc. Thanks

Re: "Manual Upload/Download" Matterport Capture (beta) on Android lets you import 360 imagery from any camera, so anything you've captured and processed externally can be used.
Yeah and there are other workarounds too… the key word in that one was ‘easy’ aka built into the software no matter where you access it. Maybe one day 👌🏻
Great video Ben! Thanks for breaking all of those down! I have a hospital system with 11 locations to shoot and wanted to know if you do coaching calls? Desperately need some guidance. Thanks.
Hi Shawn, I don’t, however my virtual tour pro course answers most of the major questions you’d have & also comes with lifetimes access to our Facebook group that you can get answers in 👍🏻
Please, you can help me and tell me which one of all this software or platforms I can use but without their watermark? Because I don’t want that my competitors see and know ( where I and how I did this virtual tour ) And the video is already 3 years old; do you have any new alternatives?
Really nice video and comparisons, I am on the Asteroom site and they now only offer $59.00 all in pricing for 30 photos and 1.50 per extra photo. I will most likely buy your tour tutorial in the near future. Cheers!
Love your stuff, you know that! Now, just a piece of simple guidance i'm seeking: Is there any other virtual tour software or services that offer the "walk-through" feature? i've been searching and searching... but no answers or results. please if you have a moment... help! ... big Thank You!!!
Thank you for posting. Once you download a tour, can you post it on Facebook,RUclips? Do downloaded tours interface with platforms such as RUclips or Facebook? Or must the tour live in the software site to function? 🙏🙏🙏
Can someone tell me in which of these softwares you can download your tour to your computer and then upload it to your own site, so it is not linked to a metareal url? Thanks
I feel like I'm missing something here. If at 31:22 where you list Yearly Matterport for 5 tours is $120, while a sub of 50 is $3708, why wouldn't you just create 10 accounts of 5 tours (making 50 total tours) for $1198.80?
10 accounts for a professional business is very impractical… if you are looking for extreme measures to cut costs you could simply just create hundreds of free accounts and host one on each. Again very impractical.
Do you know why I think that your course on building a Virtual Tour Business must be great? Because Aristotle said: "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." And this video was an excelent piece of content.
Hey Ben. Love the content. Looking for best software recommendation for a home inspector. Must have tour, floor plan and ability to tap and add a comment that user can access during tour. For example…I’d like to label location of shutoffs etc. Dollhouse not a requirement.
Great video Ben, you are my, all things 360 guru. Your Virtual Tour Pro Class is most definitely worth it, t paid for itself in the first month and now I'm earning an average of $1,200. per tour and shooting a couple of tours a month. Not sure if I'm ready to spend more than $3k on another new camera though. I love my Theta Z1 and have been learning DSLR for the last couple of months and the faster workflow with the matterport camera is appealing. Can you place URL-linked hotspots, client branding, and other cool stuff that is available on Kuula and 3D Vista within Matterport?
Great question. I really need to know if Matterport allows the placement of linked hotspots over the images (for example linking products from a sports shop and send the visitor to an external website). Also in Kuula you can place pictures over a TV if the panorama has a TV so it looks better....Interactivity with the user during the tour is sometimes more important for my clients than the great 3D feeling of visiting a space, home or whatever....
Hey Brian! That’s awesome to hear about your virtual tour success after watching VTP, keep it up! As for custom branding, it’s a lot more limited than the other platforms. You can add basic information but not really custom graphic design/skins etc
As a hobbyist, who would be doing this for historic sites or for small businesses that I want to promote, I am looking for some software that will allow me to generate similar walkthroughs, but that do not require hosting on a commercial site. Essentially something that will generate a package of images, HTML, and JavaScript that can be hosted on any website. I already know about the Google StreetView app. That is how I got interested in 360 photography. I'm looking for software with a little more, AND can be hosted on any web server.
superb comparison. They only thing that is a bit of a Matterport dealbreaker for me is that if you use a 72mp camera like the insta360 x3, matterport downgrades it to 20mp - which is pretty crap!
I have a question, we are a school corp. wanting to do a virtual tour of our campus, would matterport work for that.. We can host the file/pics without an issue, can I just use matterport to combine the images and set it up and then download the video and not have to worry about paying for the subscription if I host the file myself? Or what would be your recommendation for accomplishing a virtual tour for our school.
Hello Ben. I know it is good and easy to take 360 photos and it is easy to use. But I want to make 3D model of my house. I tried with polycam and others, but I can't do it perfectly. I always have some inaccurate walls and furniture. I have bought a gimbal (dji osmo mobile 6). Now it is better, but still not perfect. Any ideas, may be you can do a video about it?
Just a question, from a very old programmer, and image processor at one time - as an example, immoviewer - at 24:00 or so of your video - is this a software or server problem? I guess what I'm asking is do they have the bandwidth to serve the images quickly or not? If it's software, I just sort of wonder where they are stuck? No matter I guess, if I'm buying their service, they need to compare favorably. Thanks Ben for your very thorough review. I feel wierd asking a question actually, it's been so long since I've done any of this.
Wow, what a detailed video! So many usefull information! Thanks a lot Ben! I can imagine how much time did you spend collecting and categorizing all this info! Great job! Thx again
Awesome videos - thanks! QQ - I have an Insta360 X3 and awaiting support from Matterport for this camera. Are you aware of any of these services that currently support the X3?
I have used the Matterport iPhone app, but it’s time consuming, 360 cameras work much better. Could/can you use one of the phone rotating tools with Matterport? I would think with on board Lidar on the iPhone now the rotating tool would create tours similar to their own cameras?
Hi Ben, well researched video. Just one point when I called Metareal they told me that their tours are easy to build but they would build some if required
Thank you for your video mate! I’m just starting 360 tour for Real Estate and I have a z1. I wanna use Matterport for my tours. Which settings are the best knowing that I can’t edit a bracket DNG. Is it jpg hdr? Thank you for your help

Great video! 👏 💯 Extremely thorough. I found the Matterport website confusing, but you’ve helped me make sense of it all… I now need to figure out which camera to get. My husband recently got a Sony Alpha 1 Full-Frame Interchangeable Lens Mirrorless Camera. Could it work with that type of camera?… I’m a little clueless and need all the guidance I can get ☺️. Hi Ben. I am a member of VTP..:0) I have 3d vista but need a doll house for a project. So, I got a subscription to metareal. The tour i'm doing is my company factory mainly focused on the one way / walkway system and the sanitizer stations. I'd like to ask in metareal tour do I start with the 1st indoor photo or does it do understand the outside approaching the door / outside walls. Also I only need to go a third way down the building inside. Do I need to map objects in the distance at the other end of the factory
Can you use matterport on exterior buildings? or places like woods or small towns… I am trying to find a inexpensive scanner to use for some start up gaming- any help with scanner, cameras, or software suggestions??? Sincerely, a real 3d person… ^_^
Congratulations for the great video.TOP !! I would like to ask you for an info, as in some projects I insert not only the 360 ° vr images, but also the 360 ° videos. 3Dvista allows you to insert them but with a max resolution of 4k. Is there a similar software that allows you to insert videos maybe at 5.7k or 8k and then with the possibility of being able to keep it in the export of the project? A thousand thanks
Hi Ben I love your videos :) But can you advice me on something. What is the best photosetting to have when taking retail 360photos with Insta360 one x?
Can I save the 3D Project on the computer and then upload it to my own website and avoid paying subscriptions? Because I am thinking of starting a new business, but I do not guarantee its success, and I do not want to pay subscriptions to the site and to 3D
Ben As you have stated you will be doing an update to compare VT software. Can you please highlight which software has the ability to produce 1. Standalone Virtual Tour 2. A virtual Tour that I can host on my own site thus avoiding hosting fees Thanks 😊 Femi
I capture a space by 360 cam. But I could not find the public share function. After searching a while I found a quote "Note: If you have a Free plan and your model was scanned using a 360 camera, there will be no option to share. Upgrade to a Starter plan for sharing.” They claim “100% Matterport. 100% Free. But sharing a space (important thing of Matterport) is disabled. This is bad, this is such a dissatisfier.
One thing about Matterport that I dislike is that you dont own your footage. If you leave Matterport there is no way to keep your data. That is a huge problem when a client wants to keep their data forever. Homeowners like to have that "behind the walls" information for as long as they own the home as well as handing it over to future home owner. Love matterport, but wish there was a download option for the data
Ben - such useful information, thank you! So: if a photographer shoots with a Theta Z1 and processes it with Matterport, do we get relatively the same output as shooting with a Matterport camera?
Hi! 1. I found a GALOIS 3D camera. Same parameters. The matrix is smaller, but (subjectively) scans look much better. Looks like a higher resolution. The algorithm and principle of work look completely the same. Do you know something about this Equipment and company? 2. Why don't you compare smartphone LiDAR scans with PRO3? Different results, or are they comparable?
I don’t know too much about the scanners unfortunately- and at such high price points, it’s not an easy purchase to make for a small audience who might be buying them.
Hey ! thx for all the informations, I don't know if you will read this comments year later but I've got a question regarding Pivo Tour, at this time they have no subscription fee or anything but only the hardware between 370$ and 499$ so here is my question : Is pivo tour a great solution to use with an iPhone 12 or a 360 camera like Ricoh SC2 business will be better ? i will probably try to make virtual tour with mirrorless camera but I want to have a fester and cheaper solution for client who need just a simple virtual tour. thx !
What should I choose for "start"? I'm totally new to this world, a family friend that has a real estate agency, want try to do a virtual tour and asked me (cause I'm a video editor/camera operator). Think I'll go with the Trisio Lite 2, but what about the software? I don't know if this will be a "job" so I for now just consider 1 virtual tour. Metareal could be a nice option? Thank you!
Could be Kuula paired with the Trisio 2 Lite a good starting point? Or maybe would even better to try Metareal? I also watched with a lot of interest 3D Vista, do I need the hosting service for share my tour to a website or a blog? Thank you again! And sorry for so many questions ^^
Mr. Ben, I am definitely surprised that you haven’t mentioned which softwares have built in live video chat, vr video capability, and you haven’t mentioned CloudPano. I feel like the quality is only marginally below Matterport, minus the 3D aspect. What are your thoughts?

@@BenClaremont For sure. I meant to be clearer and mention “in a video”. I can still feel you don’t really rate video chat inside the tour as a very valuable feature, and I am wondering why? Just curious.

Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."
And this video was an excelent piece of content.
Cheers David, glad you liked it 😀
Hey Ben. Love the content. Looking for best software recommendation for a home inspector. Must have tour, floor plan and ability to tap and add a comment that user can access during tour. For example…I’d like to label location of shutoffs etc. Dollhouse not a requirement.
One of the best videos ever seen! Thanks
You can add basic information but not really custom graphic design/skins etc
p.s. would love to hear more of your success story if you’d like to share it? ben@virtualtourpro.com
I'm looking for software with a little more, AND can be hosted on any web server.
hello good video thanks man~ but i have a question! How do I erase the camera in the mirror when I film in the bathroom or at the gym?
Hey. Do you have a video on what gear you use professionally?
Awesome insights shared, I recon in time some will "catch up" or at least get to a point where the quality is comparable. Thanks for the video Ben!
superb comparison. They only thing that is a bit of a Matterport dealbreaker for me is that if you use a 72mp camera like the insta360 x3, matterport downgrades it to 20mp - which is pretty crap!
Thanks! Yes not ideal- however X3 isn’t great in virtual tour situations even on its own… so definitely worth considering upgrading to the 1-inch 👍🏻
@@BenClaremont yeah, Nice for exposure range but only 20 megapixels... A downgrade in that regard.
May I know for Matterport, able to add custom logo in the virtual tour? Regardless is in 3D or 2D format.
Thanks Kevin! Although not sure I have an answer to that question 😅
Wow, what a detailed video! So many usefull information! Thanks a lot Ben! I can imagine how much time did you spend collecting and categorizing all this info! Great job! Thx again
Thanks, it took a very long time 😅
Awesome videos - thanks!
THIS VIDEO NEEDS MORE LIKES! GREAT CONTENT!!
🙏🏻
Thank you Ben for all these videos I appreciate the effort put into it!
Hi Ben, well researched video. Just one point when I called Metareal they told me that their tours are easy to build but they would build some if required
Indeed, although they do take work to learn how to build them yourself
Thank you for your video mate! I’m just starting 360 tour for Real Estate and I have a z1. I wanna use Matterport for my tours. Which settings are the best knowing that I can’t edit a bracket DNG. Is it jpg hdr? Thank you for your help
Matterport uses automatic settings
Nice comparison.... Just bought a Matterport Pro 2 as well, so looking forward to your content on it as well!!
Hey Ben, very comprehensive video, thank you. Have your thoughts changed, 2 years on?
Thanks, no thoughts remain the same. I haven’t checked if they’ve updated the pricing but that would be the only difference really if they have.
I dont understand why do i have to pay them to make my tours? You say first its not even an option to make the tours myself, then you say if i want to, i can make them? so do i have an option to make the tour or not?
Thank you for a fantastic & highly comprehensive video that's exactly what I was looking for!
My pleasure!
I’m also a Realtor in Jamaica 🇯🇲 , so I’m hoping all the Matterport features are available outside the US… 🤔
Best to get a 360 camera- check out my channel for recommendations 😁
@@BenClaremont I did thanks.👍 I decided to go with the Insta360 ONE X2 as based on your outline I believe it works for photos as well as 3D video tours. Looking forward to trying it out! 😃
Ben, What is your impression of iGuide in comparison to these you have evaluated?
Awsome video! But what would be the best software got hosting domain for business to link the 3d tour on their website??
Hi Ben. I am a member of VTP..:0)
I have 3d vista but need a doll house for a project.
Well done Ben. A fair and useful comparison and really glad to see my tour for Abu Simbel Temple is part from this video.
Wow that was yours? Very nice work! FYI it’s a part of the looping video on the main page of the Matterport website, which is where I found it 👍
Do any of the other work with Xactimate, other than Matterport?
Can you use matterport on exterior buildings? or places like woods or small towns…
I am trying to find a inexpensive scanner to use for some start up gaming- any help with scanner, cameras, or software suggestions???
Sincerely, a real 3d person… ^_^
Is it possible to set up multiple accounts of 5 tours via different emails to save money or is it tied to id number
Great comprehensive comparison review - thanks 👍
Hi Ben
I love your videos :)
But can you advice me on something.
Bravo, very comprehensive and in depth
Thanks for the detailed breakdown!
Ben
As you have stated you will be doing an update to compare VT software.
Can you please highlight which software has the ability to produce
1. Standalone Virtual Tour
2. A virtual Tour that I can host on my own site thus avoiding hosting fees
Thanks 😊
Femi
I will make that video within the next few months 👍🏻
I capture a space by 360 cam. But I could not find the public share function. After searching a while I found a quote "Note: If you have a Free plan and your model was scanned using a 360 camera, there will be no option to share. Upgrade to a Starter plan for sharing.” They claim “100% Matterport. 100% Free. But sharing a space (important thing of Matterport) is disabled. This is bad, this is such a dissatisfier.
Your thoughts on Cloud Pano for real estate please?
Is there an update on these app reviews to see where they are in 2024?
One thing about Matterport that I dislike is that you dont own your footage. If you leave Matterport there is no way to keep your data. That is a huge problem when a client wants to keep their data forever. Homeowners like to have that "behind the walls" information for as long as they own the home as well as handing it over to future home owner. Love matterport, but wish there was a download option for the data
Ben - such useful information, thank you! So: if a photographer shoots with a Theta Z1 and processes it with Matterport, do we get relatively the same output as shooting with a Matterport camera?
Matterport Pro camera shoud give much higher resolution. The difference is more visible on desktops
Thanks! Yeah Pro 2 will be significantly better quality… maybe I’ll make an image quality comparison in an upcoming video 😀
@@GiorgioMarchetto360 Thanks! Much appreciated.
@@BenClaremont thanks for letting me know your thoughts! I appreciate your excellent content!
Who is still waiting with anxious the video of “pivotour” ??! Love all ur videos Ben!
Hi!
Hey ! thx for all the informations, I don't know if you will read this comments year later but I've got a question regarding Pivo Tour, at this time they have no subscription fee or anything but only the hardware between 370$ and 499$ so here is my question : Is pivo tour a great solution to use with an iPhone 12 or a 360 camera like Ricoh SC2 business will be better ?
i will probably try to make virtual tour with mirrorless camera but I want to have a fester and cheaper solution for client who need just a simple virtual tour.
thx !
Just depends if you want to commit to Pivo Tour or not. If you do then sure it’s a good option. If not, get something like an Insta360 X3
Great work Ben. Thank you!
Thank you Ben for this very helpful and informative video!
after getting the 360 view images, not able to upload on the cloud. any reason its giving an error??
Fantastic! Thank you Ben
Thank you!
Trisio is good for other platforms, just not Matterport at the moment. Check out my recent vids for thoughts on the best cameras 👍
@@BenClaremont Thank you! I'll check asap!
Could be Kuula paired with the Trisio 2 Lite a good starting point? Or maybe would even better to try Metareal? I also watched with a lot of interest 3D Vista, do I need the hosting service for share my tour to a website or a blog? Thank you again! And sorry for so many questions ^^
Can you use a GroPro Max 360 for creating matterport tours? In South Africa I am very limited as to what 360 cameras are available to me.
Unfortunately I don’t think it’s compatible
Mr. Ben, I am definitely surprised that you haven’t mentioned which softwares have built in live video chat, vr video capability, and you haven’t mentioned CloudPano.
I feel like the quality is only marginally below Matterport, minus the 3D aspect.
What are your thoughts?
Hi Jerry, as I mentioned at the start, this was a comparison of ‘Matterport-like’ platforms and Matterport does not have the features you mentioned. That said, I will remake my bigger virtual tour software comparison video early next year 👍
@@BenClaremont For sure. I meant to be clearer and mention “in a video”.
I can still feel you don’t really rate video chat inside the tour as a very valuable feature, and I am wondering why? Just curious.
Mr Ben. Kuulas Price has gone up 25% in 2024. That is a considerable increase in this year. Is it still worth it in your opinion or are there other alternatives?
I’ll make an updated comparison soon 👍🏻
Hello! For AEC measurements of retail places, wich would be the most apropriate camera? (high prices/level laser scanners excluded)?
Probably the Matterport Pro 2 or 3 camera 👍🏻
I wonder about the prices now as I'm making the same comparison, and most of them are not straightforward to know which changed and which is the same
They should still be very similar to this video
Hi Ben. Great video! How do these platforms perform against Kuula? Also, is there a difference between a 3D Tour and a Virtual Tour? Thank you.
Thanks Joseph- I actually explained the differences at the very beginning, Kuula is a standard 360 platform whereas these ones are 3D focused 👍
@@BenClaremont Thanks a lot! Keep up the good work. 🙏🏾
Very good comparison, bro..
Great video Ben, Well done. Was iGuide not considered or did it not make the final cut like the others mentioned at the start of your video? Just curious because I've read about a lot of people moving from matterport to iguide.
Thanks Paul, I did mention it, but it didn’t meet the full criteria I outlined at the start. From memory they are only servicing the US.
@@BenClaremont Apologies for not noticing that. Great video. Well done! -Paul
How is it to upload matterportvs to other platforms like Websites and social media
What do you mean?
@@BenClaremont can the virtual tour be uploaded to a platform like Facebook or Instagram
can you teach how to embed video in matterport?
Is there an alternative that doesn’t force you to have active listings? I want to work with apartments but they’ll keep their listing up for a couple of years, so it doesn’t make sense for me to work with big clients since I’ll lose money for keeping an active listing for years. Any way to get around that?
let me know if you find out about one (btw is it possible to upload to google street view your self and have it placed there permanently ? )
