I’m a Bangladeshi and I had followed your recipe to cook Soup Joumou for the first time this New Year for my husband, who’s a Haitian, and he loved it! The only things I did a bit differently were: I used both the squashes. Added one more maggi cube. 1 more tbsp of tomato paste. I chopped up the parsley and celery leaves and added them into the broth. I let the thyme steam while floating on top of the broth to soften the leaves, and then took off the leaves and added them to the broth and discarded the twig portion. My husband loved it and said it was authentic Haitian Soup Joumou! Thank you for sharing your recipe! :D
I’m Puerto Rican from Puerto Rico and have Haitian relatives ❤️ my great grandmother made many of these recipes. Thank you for sharing this knowledge. Although my grandmother and great grandparents are no longer alive I try to learn more about their culture. I’d love to visit Haiti one day God willing.
Thank you soo much. My mom recently passed away and I had to make it this yr for me and my family. Everyone loved how it came out!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾much appreciation

Yummmy! It looks so delicious! Makes me think about growing up when my mom would be in the kitchen humming a Beautiful song while she’s making a big pot of Haitian soup! I really miss her & her cooking! May she Rest In Peace! 😘😘❤️🙏
I love your channel. I'm Haitian but I don't know how to cook Haitian food as my mom does all the cooking. Sometimes depending on what she cooks I ask her for the recipe but I also want to be able to know a lot of Haitian food as I love eating my mom's cooking. Your channel is amazing.
When I used to live in Boston there was a Haitian restaurant that I frequented every week! So excited to try these delicious recipes myself. My parents even commented that they missed the annual pot of Squash soup I would get every new year.
I reside in Charleston, SC and there is no Haitian restaurant near me. I cannot say enough how much your recipes have helped me. I made "Soup Joumou" this weekend and it was delicious!! The recipe for the Haitian spice is divine and I use it with all my meat dishes. Keep up the great work and I cannot wait to see what you will be cooking next.
Right about now I wish one of my Haitian relatives was living and breathing so they could cook me some Jewel soup ooh I love my Haitian Cuisine I love my Haitian food uzumu soup that looks so good

I made Soup Joumou last night and just finished my 2nd bowl of the day. Mine has beef turnip carrots potatoes cabbage and linguine. It was real thick! I had no room to add water lol I was surprised to see celery and banane added! I add my spaghetti last after the potatoes and turnip softens.
Making this dish tomorrow for New Years. Learned of it from our treks to Florida and wanted to share something unique this year with friends. I guarantee none of my co worker's have never had a Haitian meal and are super excited to try it. Wish me luck!
I’m learning a lot from you mrs Lamise, I will be making this soup for the new year my first time attempting to make it. I love your epis hate cloves but I’m handling it ok so far thank you. Happy holidays 🎄
Hi Chef Lamise!! Fantastic channel, been a fan and first time posting. I'd like to make this soup more often (vegan style too), but it takes so much time. I start prepping up the veggies the day before. Have you tried using a pressure/slow cooker for soup joumou? Please let me know how to do this. Thanks!
I love all of your recipes. When my family comes over to visit, I make your recipes and my family thinks I'm a great Haitian cook! I have a question about this recipe though...after you boil the meat, do you take out the tomatoes, pepper and thyme/parsley bundle before adding the tomato paste? I can't really tell from the video. Keep up the great work! Bonne Annee!!!
Sorry I was out of town away from my computer. I left it all in there or you can take them out and make a new thyme/parsley, but leave the tomatoes. Happy New Year!
blkazn77 follow everything she did accept the adding the meat, and if you use vegetarian meat substitute add it much later as they tend to lose their flavor if use too early.
M pa met pat tomat nan soup joumou mwen.....Depi vian mwen te byen tranpe epi l pran koule .......Epi le soup mwen pwal bon m ajoute vyann nan si se pasa lapp kraze nan soup la...

Thank you for this video
Do you use the buttercup squash? It wasn’t mentioned in the video?
I'm going try it this morning thank you
Freedom soup 🙏🏽
I saw two different squash what did you do with the other one? Did you cut that one up and blend it with the other squash?
Happy new year
Thank you, I’m here far away from mom, I know if I asked I wouldn’t get as clear as your directions. God bless 🙏🏾
Are you from lagonave?
I have 2 questions. What type of meat did you use and how long did you cook it before adding additional ingredients?
Did you only use the half squash that you showed being cut and peeled? Or did you use the entire both squashes that you showed in the ingredients?
Is this the soup yall made for new year? Name squash?
Thanks for your awesome videos!
Thank you for watching love!
did you say.. banann Nan soup joumou.., pate tomate?
I love this recipe❤️. I only saw you use the butternut squash, did you not use the other one?

This taste so good. Can you make it again some time?😋
can you please tell me what did you do with the squash to make the sauce Cuz you didn't really show how you make the sauce with the the squash
I didn't show, but I said boil it for 20 minutes with 2 cups of water then blend it. Thank you for watching love!
Did you remove the first pepper with cloves out that you first put in after putting the second one? I can't remember if you showed us
Butternut Squash can be placed in the oven for half an hour to soften or cook for forty-five minutes.
Do you use chicken maggi cubes or beef maggi cubes for this recipe?
Regular magi
for the plantain did u use the green one or the ripe one or u can use either?
I used a green one. the ripe one might be too mushy. Thank you for watching! Happy New Year!
Have you tried this in the Instant Pot yet? I would love to see a video on it.
Great video..but just asking...isnt that too much cabbage??
Eating leftovers today. Benne Année
I love you girl 😘 thanks for sharing
Thank you love!
What can you replace the epis seasoning with
Where is the detailed ingredients? Can't wait to make this tonight.
Is there an alteration I can make if I don't eat meat? I love the soup but haven't had it in years because I'm now vegetarian.
blkazn77 just don’t add meat
blkazn77 follow everything she did accept the adding the meat, and if you use vegetarian meat substitute add it much later as they tend to lose their flavor if use too early.
