Update: there is a new firmware and update to OnionOS which fixes the image scaling and colorization issues with the Miyoo Mini v4. Here is an updated video: ruclips.net/video/6CkJNKupU9A/видео.html
There are some VERY IMPORTANT updates that should be mentioned: - Miyoo has already released a new firmware that fixes the screen in the stock OS. Ghosting is fixed, colors are now correctly calibrated and everyone should use the default color settings (7/10/10/10). New V4 minis now already ship with this new firmware. - Onion OS will officially support the new screen resolution in version 4.3 (currently in beta, releasing soon), and will also incorporate the new firmware from the official update. You can already install Onion 4.3 beta and enjoy a perfect screen, or wait a bit and install it when stable. After this update, the screen is now actually better than the previous 480p screen. It is now much sharper, has better viewing angles, better brightness, better colors, less ghosting, overall its a higher end screen with virtually no downsides (after the onion 4.3 update). I think you should make a pinned comment or pin this one, since it mostly invalidates the statements on this video (which were still very much valid up until this update). Thank you for bringing up attention for this issue right from the beginning.
I've been seeing this info and was like 'wtf we are saying high res screen is worse because of fw?' I'm stoked for 3x GBA with the v4, ordered in orange.
@@klouchisInitially, the V4 displays looked ROUGH. I ordered a yellow V4 the first time Miyoo offered the color and received mine a few days before Russ posted this video. I was concerned that my V4 included a bad display, it looked that bad. I can only speculate, but it looked as if they were sending 640x480 video output to the display, which the display would attempt to scale when rasterizing to 750x530 (new display resolution). However, I reached out to Miyoo about it and they replied pretty quickly. They politely asked me to wait for an update they were working on specifically for the V4 display. No date for the update was offered, they simply said “soon”. After a few weeks, they posted the update in 10-27-23 and it worked perfectly. The display has incredible sharpness and color saturation also looked far better. I was floored by how nice my previously glitchy display performed after the update. I also noticed the V4 included a faster CPU clocked at 1600 MHz vs the 1200 MHz CPU used by previous Minis and current Mini Plus. I’ve since ordered 4 more Mini V4s that shipped with new FW. They look GREAT right out of the box. Considering that Miyoo hasn’t raised the price on Miyoo despite some high inflation, it’s a great deal for pocket handheld. I received my Mini V4s around 10 days after ordering, which was much faster than the month it took to receive my V1 nearly 2 years ago. I’m sure you’ll be very pleased when yours arrives. 👍
@@ToeCutter0 thanks for the info and your experience, it seems like miyoo was always being open with customers that the hi res screen needs a fw release to display right and they were working on it. Once I got all the info I couldn't wait to order a v4. It was so easy to walk right up to the official store and see 71 in stock since the official line is the v4 sucks don't get it. I agree that the low price makes this an amazing value. I can't wait for my v4 in pokemon yellow to arrive.
@@klouchis I really like the yellow models. It’s a matte finish and it looks great. I’m glad I could help. In case you haven’t seen his reply, Russ said he plans to do an update video on Mini V4 update, as well as Onion OS 4.3 update that includes Mini V4 support. I’m looking forward to this one.
@@ToeCutter0 yeah looking forward to the update, I'm glad I picked up one before there's a rush for the v4 with OOS 4.3. it makes sense for reviewers to wait for the release build instead of reviewing the beta release with the fw fix.
I have the Miyoo Mini v4 for about a month now and I absolutely love it. I wanted to get my hands on the Mini for a while now but could never find it available, so I was really happy when they released it. For me, the yellow color brings back memories because it's the one most of my friends had for the OG Gameboy, and the screen color saturation feel great for the games I'm currently playing at least. As a woman, having a device that finally fits in my pockets is making me playing a lot more than my Anbernic or Nintendo Switch since I'm able to carry it around everywhere and easily sneak a few minutes of gameplay here and there. Since I really don't have long play sessions and I probably also have smaller hands the device never felt too uncomfortable to play.
For any kind of ROM set that has a bunch of numbers at the front of it, there’s an incredibly easy way to fix that! There’s an app called bulk rename utility. I know it’s on PC, and I believe it’s out for Mac as well. But it has ton of different options for renaming things. So all you have to do is import your ROMs that you want to rename and tell the app to remove the first five(or however many numbers there are) characters and boom numbers are gone and it’s an alphabetical order.
@@TheBalloonTwister No problem! BRU has saved me so much time over the years. I literally renamed like 50,000 roms in a matter of minutes. That program is a total lifesaver!
The Plus form factor feels perfect now that I’ve had extended playtime with it. The OG’s novelty size kind of wore off. Plus is now my Steam Deck’s retro companion on trips 😊
I bought the TrimUI Smart on your recommendation the other day. I know the screen is much smaller, but I think I like that more as an ultra pocketable device because it's more comfortable to hold.
@@fatminguscat4712 Personally I like the 35XX better for comfort than the MM+, but yeah, horizontal consoles are always gonna win that game. On another note, why on earth they didn't make both bottom corners rounded is beyond me.
They are. I've played a few Pokémon games on them. Perfect for one hand. And it's easy enough to even hit the back buttons which are used for fast forward, great when grinding.
I don’t really like playing Metroid games on my RG35XX and it’s easier to hold in my hand. It relies a lot on the shoulder buttons for twitchy action, hence not an optimal device for these sorts of Gabe’s.
I picked up a couple and actually like the screen better. It has a better viewing angle than the V2 and V3 in my opinion. I can see how purists would be bummed at the non-640x480 screen but honestly I think it looks really good!
Onion 4.3 (currently in beta) will support the new resolution natively. And Miyoo already released a new firmware that fixes the colors, you can now use the default 7-10-10-10 color calibration. I am on the beta and I can say the screen looks absolutely amazing. Better than the v3 and before.
@@tylerrabs i still think Miyoo should never release an unfinished product like this. The V4 was not ready software-wise. Only now it's slowly getting ready... but it's good news for us that already have it
Miyoo announced a Firmware upgrade for the V4 coming this month. I got the yellow V4 and love it. The criticism in this Video except for the screen(which will likely be fixed with the update) didn't make much sense to me. I also feel like the overall build quality was improved, and the screen is brighter. The texture is also different. I wonder why this wasn't adressed here.
@@poethefallen1333Nonsense. The fact is that the V4's main complaints got adressed by firmware, OS and hardware updates. Having owned both MM V4 and MM+, I too don't understand alot of criticisms made in this video. It makes a difference whether you just use a device for a few hours/days or for months and that's an inherent weakness of reviews
Been playing with my V4 for a couple weeks and I love it, but I really wanted a DMG themed V2/V3. Was finally able to order one and will gift the V4 to a friend. My RG35XX is my favorite all-around handheld with the 405V being my new favorite toy to tinker and game on the couch. I've been carrying around the Mini in the leather card case that you recommended and it's awesome for sneaking in a game in between tasks! They all have a use case for me so far.
I have the transparent blue v2, and that yellow colour looking sick! But it is unfortunate that the screen does seems like a downgrade compare to its earlier version :(
I just got an rg280v and for the form factor it's amazing. Was looking at the miyoo mini but I think I made the perfect choice especially considering I got it on a good deal. Waiting on a handheld with this form factor to give us access to something closer to retroid pocket 3+ but maybe that's a few years off at best.
I'm new to these handhelds and the biggest bummer for me about picking up the cheap R35S was the lack of PD USB-C charging. I wish more reviewers focused on that since I don't want to be worrying about carrying a separate charger/cable just for that handheld while traveling. Glad to see Mini v4 supporting it.
@@komocode I ordered it on June 16th this year and got it on the 23rd. I've used chargers that came with samsung phones, charged from my PC's USB ports, and I have two other chargers made by ONN (walmart brand.) There's only supposed to be one version of the miyoo mini plus. But you never know with this kind of chinese hardware company. I'm hoping the video creator just got a broken one or something. It's really strange to me that his doesn't charge based on my experience.
Miyoo's willingness to release a revision of a device that's in some ways worse than a previous one doesn't bode well for their future devices, it really feels like they're fumbling the bag after having been under the spotlight for the better part of the past year and change.
Nah, Miyoo has been killing it with the Mini Plus and just made a device for the subset of customers who missed out on having something smaller. I feel like they’re doing fine.
I mean, they specifically said they couldn't source the original screen but in their minds people were still clamoring for the original mini. So they got another one that just isn't as good. That's the tradeoff at this point - do you want the size, or the screen?
I didn't even notice, been playing mine for a month now. former owner of v2 too. I guess its one of those things that you either care about or don't even notice.
The Miyoo Mini v4 with latest Onion release candidate (V4.3), is incredible. The screen is very sharp. I have it and the Miyoo Mini plus and the screen difference is notable to me.
Thank you so much for boosting my confidence brother!! My confidence was so down when i watched this video and reading the comments too i have been doing research for about 6 months now i used to watch this guy get so much excited for the mini back in the day when he announced it being back in stock i got really excited but this video really got my confidence down but u made me better!
I'm the total opposite! 😁 The original Mini is so much more fun for me than my Mini+. I found a nice zip case for it and I love taking it around with me. The novelty never wears off.
As someone that chased the original Miyoo Mini for a long time when it first came out and was constantly bumped with the known availability issues, I can comfortably say that picking up an RG280V was the best decision I could have made. Not only does it play everything I want for a handheld, it's much better quality than anything else I've tried (including a PSP and a 3DS), making the controls smoother and giving me security that it's not going to brick just from one drop (or even two or three, I'm a pretty clumsy guys). Also it's the perfect size for me, granted I think I have small hands for a guy my size but I havent felt any pain with it even in long sessions, something I cannot say of other handhelds/controllers I own (cofcof SN30 Pro and N3DS XL cofcof). I like it so much that I'm surprised people dont recommend it more, even years after it was originaly launched. I understand people who want to get something cheaper or that enjoy the bigger devices getting something like a MM+ or RG35XX, but for me, small is the way to go.
Thanks, there's no point in buying the Miyoo Mini as they'll never mass produce it. Someday eventually someone will clone the damn thing and sell a few thousand. RG280V looks good but needs a newer chipset with better firmware. I'm still disappointed there's nothing Miyoo Mini Plus / RG35XX sized good filter support. (Koriki is super bugg and slow / barely any filters work on the RG35XX).
@@derp195 Yeah, I wish anbernic would have cloned the hardware and paid the OnionOS guys for a port. OnionOS is so much better than the abandoned GarlicOS it's scary. Maybe they'll shrink the RG35XX someday.
"If you're willing to sacrifice some pocketability...." With the product category of the miyoo mini, poketability is 10x the importance of any other feature. If it's not pocketabie or less pocketable, then I'm probably not or less likely to casually travel outside my house with it on a day to day basis. And if I'm only using it in my home or hotel room on a major trip, then I can use any number of non-pocketable handheld devices, like the steam deck or switch or whatever.
the fact that they didn't think to include wifi as an upgrade to the original miyoo mini form is a travesty. Like omg that was only reason why I opted not to get the original. I wanted the ultra pocketibility, but with wifi so that I could retroachievments and pokemon shenanigans on the go. The plus is nice, it's just the mini mini is small enough.
Super informative video again! I have a Miyoo Mini v2. It's a great little device for when you are on the go or on a camping trip. The small size and low weight are important in those situation. For me the Miyoo Mini is not that comfortable to play on for long sessions, due to that small size and the awkward shoulder buttons (although I almost never use them). It's great for pick-up-and-play sessions, certainly with OnionOS. I absolutely love the D-Pad and buttons on the Miyoo Mini! I think they are my favorite of all controllers and handheld devices I have and have ever used in the last 45 years! Yep, I find them THAT good! I absolutely enjoy pressing them! The screen on the v4 would be a big let down for me. Hope they open up the firmware so it can be fixed by the community or maybe the will fix it themselves. Nevertheless great to see, that Miyoo is still producing this fun little device!
I had hoped that Russ would have posted a brief update on the Mini V4, because most if not all of the display issues have been fixed by Miyoo’s 10-27-2023 update. This video was posted several weeks before Miyoo released the update. New Mini V4s ship with the new firmware. It’s a shame because the Mini V4 now has the best display of all Minis. I’ve ordered 4 more Mini V4s since receiving my yellow V4 in Sept 2023. Initially, the display on my V4 looked *ROUGH* . I reached out to Miyoo and they replied quickly, explaining that they’d release a firmware update “soon”. After applying the firmware update, the V4 display looked far better with deep color saturation and zero tearing, even when using filters. It required zero tuning to get great image quality. I have no affiliation with Miyoo, I just think the Mini V4 deserves a second look with the new firmware. I’d have never purchased more of them had the display looked as bad they did on release. I now have 5 Miyoo Mini V4 (each color) and the display quality is consistent across all 5 of my Mini V4s. In summary, I’m very pleased with the Miyoo Mini V4. For the price, it’s an incredible bargain for a truly pocketable retro handheld. The gorgeous screen, and 33% *faster* CPU (1600 MHz vs 1200 MHz on Mini Plus) it’s a no-brainer.
Yes, an update video is overdue. After talking to the Onion team we decided to postpone an update video until their beta release is in a stable release state, so I'll combine a v4 firmware and Onion update in one.
@@RetroGameCorps Outstanding! Perhaps a pinned comment to let channel members know there’s an update coming to assuage concerns over the Mini V4? I have no affiliation with any vendor, nor do I gain anything from an update video. That said, I’ve replied to countless posts on Twitter, Reddit, etc regarding the Mini V4 being among the best retro handhelds, since the fix was made available. Great idea combining the V4 update & Onion OS 4.3 topics, Russ. I’ll be watching! 👍
OG Mini V2 still my favourite from the lot of them 😊 It's still working & still the one that I grab from time to time. Short playing sessions that is. The Plus variant is cool but the screen is a little blurry looking compared to the Mini's smaller screen. RG5XX is another one that's decent but a little overhyped imo. I have so many of these devices, currently my favourite is the RG405V. There's way too many being released lol it's impossible to keep up, the market is oversaturated, that's good & bad. PSP Go is something that I bought this month & with it modded it's just amazing for what it is & what it can do, best device to play PS1 & PSP games on, also i have a tweaked app for GBA games & another for SNES games, so I'm all covered. Anything else i use my more powerful handhelds. They're all fun 😊
With the latest onion os beta retroarch actually renders at a screen resolution rather that 640x480 and I found that gba integer scale works great and pixels are very sharp for this system. Other systems though can't upscale evenly without losing too much screen. So as a gba machine this one is actually better imo
Yeah once you get your hand on the Mini Plus, I feel like it'd be awful hard to go back to Mini again. I played FFMQ on the Mini Plus and that felt juuuuust right. For the lack of hassle, Plus is probably my easy recommendation.
Just saw your Onion OS 4.3 video. I wonder if you should pin a comment here letting folks know the screen issues have been fixed and you have a follow up video.
Kinda been feeling the same about the Plus. It just feels better in the hands and the shoulder buttons are too big of a step up for me to go back to my V2.
Hey Russ, FYI there are new board revision on the Miyoo Mini v4 that adds back the real time clock. It's shipping in the newest units. I only found out when I received one myself and OnionOS didn't scale the display correctly because the firmware is updated.
I got a version 1 mini back in March 2022, just took it out after months of playing the plus. The colour saturation and hue is just the best even compared to the plus, but playing the thing feels absurd now !.. Buttons feel looser and the overall build IS fragile in comparison. I will always love it for what it achieved and on such a budget, just more of a collector's item then using is all!
I know this has been said already, but I can't stress enough that the Mini V4 is fantastic now. The firmware update and OnionOS 4.3 really transformed this device. Games run in full resolution and colors are lovely, it looks alot better than my MM+ screen! And I think the V4s are less fragile than the older models. Would love to see an updated review
To make it clear the objective of Miyoo wasn’t to have a better resolution but just to have a 2,8 inch LCD available on the market to contine to satisfy the high demand on this device. For information Miyoo is working on the improvement of the resolution : I have received a test firmware (which is still in development) for the Onion Team this morning. My honest personal opinion is that if you don’t have the previous and the new devices side by side it’s very hard to make the difference in term of gaming experience. The new screen is even better in some ways : the extra viewing angles, improved ghosting and extra brightness really makes it better to me. The textures stand out more, the overall experience is more visually appealing and the different screen elements easier to comprehend. The new screen is less blurry on movements, very nice in any 2D scrolling game. About the form factor of this device I agree, it is incredible, yes it’s less confortable than a 3,5 inch device but it’s not exactly the same use as this device is The one that you have in your pocket during all the year and you start it on a whim when you have 10 minutes to occupe. The MMP is more confortable for long play and multiplayer feature is more adapted for long play at home or for long travels. Overall I feel this title a little hard compared to the content of the video, the good news is that thanks to this screen it’s possible for the retrogaming community which has been very frustrated during the last few months to have this great device in their pocket instead of having 10 new models in the year and this is a great move from the manufacturer !
Can you tell what exactly the Firmware is improving? Some people including me have lagging and ghosting aswell as scanlines appearing on their V4 units. I wonder If this May be adressed or If the screen is simply defective.
I replaced my motherboard on the v2 and noticed the hardware upgrade right away. The charging port is a lot sturdier. However, it also comes with new buttons. The motherboard uses a different configuration where the start, select and menu button need to be taller. Unfortunately, the menu button on my unit keeps getting stuck and I need to dislodge it repeatedly.
The Mini is in a whole different league of portability. It does fit jeans pockets (on normal/tight fitting) and the bulk is very manageable. But indeed it is pretty fragile, not because it falls apart or anything when handled with reasonable care, but the screen is slightly convexed and that means you can't put a glass screen protector on it. The other devices are too big for jeans pockets, but fit easily in baggy pants or jacket pockets. And their screens are flat (you even get a screen protector in the box). I didn't notice the charging issues, but I am very glad I know now. For a upcoming trip I was planning on not taking a usb-a to c cable, since my charger and powerbank have PD-ports. I would have been unable to charge it, and probably fear it was broken.
I bought the Miyoo mini plus and My word it was a fantastic purchase. Now if only we could modify it to support better charging standards I would literally not need another handheld
I got a miyoo mini plus about a month ago and I am in love with it, I carry it everywhere for random play time. I no longer had to hold on to my gbc or ds lite since I can play all game of games on here.
I'm honestly kind of confused with how Miyoo is producing their products, I was under the impression that there was only the Miyoo Mini that was superseded by the Plus, which I bought. Good thing I'm not missing out on much by not buying the newer model, though...
I’ve always found the Miyoo Mini a little bit too small for its own good. I 3D printed a handle for it and it makes this device a lot more usable, but it kind of defeats the « mini »side of it. I never tried the Mini +, but I can definitely see how this slightly bigger form factor can take the crown for the pocketable experience.
For me i really love my RG35XX with garlic os and boxart. Even though i have more expensive devices the size of the device bundled with the screen quality make it perfect for 8 bit and 16 bit gaming.
Glad I watched this - I’d always wanted a Mini, ended up getting a Plus because it was available and had Wi-Fi, but still wanted a Mini for the collection and was strongly considering picking up a v4 - but that screen resolution weirdness has killed the idea for me.
Mini V4s ship with new firmware and the best display of any Mini. The display looks so much better it prompted me to get one of each V4 color before they end of life the Mini. This video is misleading bc it doesn’t mention the update at all. At the very least, the video title should be updated.
Honestly, for everything 16 bit or under, I prefer to just bust out the Analogue Pocket. I've always got a pokemon cartridge slotted in there, but the cores opening up have made it my go-to for pre-3d gaming. It's not a cheap option, but if you've got the money to spend, it can be the last handheld in this class you ever need.
Not gonna lie I have a RG35XX and it can charge with all different C to C cables. Might be a slight revision from the one you have. Bought it on amazon for 75 bucks. They label it as C2C compatible. Really nice feature that I am glad Miyoo is doing as well. Charges faster via C cable too vs A. Did you test to see if the Miyoo charges faster or not?
I got one just because I couldn't resist. My D-pad is all sorts of messed up. Mushy feeling when pressing up or right, scrubs against the case sometimes. Seems like their quality control isn't as good this time around.
I’ve had the RG35XX for about 3 months now with fully customized GarlicOS and coming from a Switch with CFW the RG35XX kicks ass for the size and price🤷🏽♂️
It’s baked into the firmware itself (flashed on the internal storage), so it’ll affect all OS options. The community devs are working on a fix right now.
So, Onion OS 4.3 (beta) just came out which (in congestion with the latest miyoo firmware) supports the native resolution of the new display which makes this now (imho) superior to the original Mini. So for all out there who really love the size of the Mini (like me): Go for it!
@@ajcics I see. But 540 doesn't seem like a good resolution to work with, since majority of stuff is working with 480p, next jump 720p, next jump 1080p. Especailly 4:3 format, which is most of the retro systems are at.
@@wongwwy you might get very slight pixel distortion as a result but the picture is better overall unless you are really focusing in on it. MINUI did something similar for the 240p screen of the Trimui Smart, slight slight distortion but overall not noticeable unless you're really focusing on it. I think it's a good trade off personally
Russ, are you saying that the Plus is an upgrade if you already own a Miyoo Mini or is it so negligible that it is just that you would buy one if you were a new customer (who doesn't already own the Mini)?
wait so how do you normally chaege the miyoo mini plus / miyoo mini (older versions) without the type c cable? (can you explain for someone who is not tech savy as your explanation 4:05 flew over my head. thanks
why? so it can be ridiculously marked up, pre-orders only with limited stock, so they can exploit your fear of missing out? analogue products are decent but their business practices suck
They'd charge like $300 for it, it'd never be in stock, they'd take your money, you'd wait a year and a half for shipping only to see limited quantity special units shipping in two weeks when you were waiting over a year for the vanilla stuff. I still don't understand why people keep this preorder marketing alive; they're always two preorders deep just to stay afloat long enough to ship what they're behind on. Actually worse than LRG. ALL TO SELL YOU THE SAME CHIP SIX DIFFERENT WAYS, BY THE BY
@Captain_Dunsel Would be cool if they made an Android handheld. I mean they'd have to remove the catridge slot as dictated by the size (naturally there'd be an adapter because...money). Could drop the price a bit too.
I think it was called a V4 just for the charging update, new color and revitalize hype. Otherwise this device is just answering the “unavailable stock” problem by sourcing any screen they could. So they probably said “we are giving the ppl a screen not on par with previous versions so let’s at least give a new color and update the charging as a consolation.”
I tried to buy a V3 for a friend but was never able to secure one so I gave my personal V3 to him instead. As the months passed, I still couldn't replace it so I eventually settled for a RG35XX. Then I saw these new V4s drop and was able to get a yellow one. Looking at the screen I was pretty disappointed and thought that it just wasn't as good as I remembered, I didn't know about the issues mentioned in the video so now I'm glad that I was right all along and the screen is actually worse. Hopefully Miyoo pushes an update soon.
Does the new v4 come with a transperant plastic film on the screen like the v2 I purchased one and it didn't so I want to make sure it is not a used device
Still like my Mini, but haven't really used it for awhile. Been really loving my Vita for every day stuff; it has access to the games I want to play right now, comfortable to hold and fits in my pocket about as well as the Mini does with a card case over it.
funny, I order the miyoo mini plus and also felt the screen had a washed out look to it as well. I didn't order directly from the Miyoo ali express store though
I realised the small screen size just wasnt for me the day i tried to play anuthing besides GBA on the Rg351P. Even 3.5 inches was too small of a screen for my eyes and the chasis was too small for my hands. Sadly, ideals and reality are often contradicting :(
I absolutely adore my Miyoo Mini + which I bought after watching your video, among others. The super sharp pixels that feel like they're bursting off the screen due to the lamination is really something else, not to mention the build quality and perfect d-pad. It's amazing and really spoiled me with other retro handhelds. It's a shame that they ran out of the original screens for the OG Mini and now they're getting these subpar ones, but like Russ says here, the Plus is the way to go. Bigger battery, better feel, better everything.
miyoo mini v2 v3 are definitly the best handheld if you only play GB/GBC/GBA games, i'm lucky enough to have one v1 and one v2 haha so i don't care what's wrong going on with v4
Update: there is a new firmware and update to OnionOS which fixes the image scaling and colorization issues with the Miyoo Mini v4. Here is an updated video: ruclips.net/video/6CkJNKupU9A/видео.html

@@George_Delis fixed, thanks for the heads up!
I just found one of these for a good price brand new and got soooo bummed about this but glad to see this comment.
There are some VERY IMPORTANT updates that should be mentioned:
- Miyoo has already released a new firmware that fixes the screen in the stock OS.

@@ToeCutter0 yeah looking forward to the update, I'm glad I picked up one before there's a rush for the v4 with OOS 4.3. it makes sense for reviewers to wait for the release build instead of reviewing the beta release with the fw fix.
IT'S ORANGE! I NEED IT!
You'd be better off with a skin probably
You would. Lol
I know a site that is trusted you can get the orange limited one, with upgraded frameware.
Wow... a channel that reviews these things that is actually honest and doesn't just shill everything blindly. Very refreshing!
The fixes to charging are much appreciated! The screen changes… not so much.
Very clean video as always!
This comment is an absolute gem thanks for posting the info appreciated
@@TheBalloonTwister No problem! BRU has saved me so much time over the years. I literally renamed like 50,000 roms in a matter of minutes. That program is a total lifesaver!
Took my Plus on a holiday a few weeks ago. Such an amazing device.
The Plus form factor feels perfect now that I’ve had extended playtime with it. The OG’s novelty size kind of wore off. Plus is now my Steam Deck’s retro companion on trips 😊

Firmware is out, time to update this review I think
I bought the TrimUI Smart on your recommendation the other day. I know the screen is much smaller, but I think I like that more as an ultra pocketable device because it's more comfortable to hold.
Same, I keep trying to force myself to use the MiyooPLus's larger screen but it all comes back to how comfortable a horizonal device is like the Smart
@@fatminguscat4712 Personally I like the 35XX better for comfort than the MM+, but yeah, horizontal consoles are always gonna win that game. On another note, why on earth they didn't make both bottom corners rounded is beyond me.
That is super cool they took notice that their older model was highly desired and went for it. I hope it is possible to pick one up.
Miyoo mini looks like something you can play with one hand. Seems like it could be good for turn based games.
@stabilize2229 100%. That makes sense. Action oriented games don't strike me as good to play on a cramped device like that.
That's its main selling point FYI :)
So you're saying it would be a good fit for hentai games
I picked up a couple and actually like the screen better. It has a better viewing angle than the V2 and V3 in my opinion. I can see how purists would be bummed at the non-640x480 screen but honestly I think it looks really good!
Onion 4.3 (currently in beta) will support the new resolution natively. And Miyoo already released a new firmware that fixes the colors, you can now use the default 7-10-10-10 color calibration. I am on the beta and I can say the screen looks absolutely amazing. Better than the v3 and before.

I got the yellow V4 and love it. The criticism in this Video except for the screen(which will likely be fixed with the update) didn't make much sense to me. I also feel like the overall build quality was improved, and the screen is brighter. The texture is also different. I wonder why this wasn't adressed here.
It didn't make sense because you own it. You are what is wrong with consumers, they wan't the product they bought to be a perfect purchase.
@@poethefallen1333Nonsense. The fact is that the V4's main complaints got adressed by firmware, OS and hardware updates. Having owned both MM V4 and MM+, I too don't understand alot of criticisms made in this video. It makes a difference whether you just use a device for a few hours/days or for months and that's an inherent weakness of reviews
always a great day when we get a Retro Game Corps video
Been playing with my V4 for a couple weeks and I love it, but I really wanted a DMG themed V2/V3. Was finally able to order one and will gift the V4 to a friend. My RG35XX is my favorite all-around handheld with the 405V being my new favorite toy to tinker and game on the couch. I've been carrying around the Mini in the leather card case that you recommended and it's awesome for sneaking in a game in between tasks! They all have a use case for me so far.
I have the transparent blue v2, and that yellow colour looking sick! But it is unfortunate that the screen does seems like a downgrade compare to its earlier version :(
I picked up the RG 35 XX recently and have been loving my time with it. Perfect size for me, this just seems a bit too small.
I have a miyoo mini plus which the video says doesn't support PD USB-C. It has always worked with my chargers so have I just been lucky?
@@JrIcifyinteresting. when did you buy it? perhaps they updated it? if plus has PD charging, I might pick one up.
@@komocode I ordered it on June 16th this year and got it on the 23rd. I've used chargers that came with samsung phones, charged from my PC's USB ports, and I have two other chargers made by ONN (walmart brand.)
There's only supposed to be one version of the miyoo mini plus. But you never know with this kind of chinese hardware company. I'm hoping the video creator just got a broken one or something. It's really strange to me that his doesn't charge based on my experience.
does the miyoo mini plus allow fast charging (PD USB-C charging if that's the same)?

I do love the MiyoMini, it's one of the few handhelds I haven't had any issues just picking it up and playing it when it arrives.
when I was walking 20k steps a day on vacation, carrying the Miyoo Mini instead of anything larger was a godsend.

The Miyoo Mini v4 with latest Onion release candidate (V4.3), is incredible. The screen is very sharp. I have it and the Miyoo Mini plus and the screen difference is notable to me.

I'm the total opposite! 😁 The original Mini is so much more fun for me than my Mini+. I found a nice zip case for it and I love taking it around with me. The novelty never wears off.
I own both. I've had numerous problems w the plus. Though the regular one's solid.
You gotta have some tiny hands, mini+ is cramp city for me the only one that feels great is the RG405V
Please Tell which ZIP Case you use
The miyoo's cartrige mode is what does everything for me. One button to turn on and boot into the last save state is hard to trade for anything.

Thanks to this channel I bought Anbernic RG35xx and I love it! I'm really thankful for your videos!!!
Yeah once you get your hand on the Mini Plus, I feel like it'd be awful hard to go back to Mini again. I played FFMQ on the Mini Plus and that felt juuuuust right. For the lack of hassle, Plus is probably my easy recommendation.
Had the M+ first, got the new regular mini recently. I prefer the mini. It actually feels more premium than the M+, and the pocketability is nicer.

Here is the updated video (also a pinned comment in this video): ruclips.net/video/6CkJNKupU9A/видео.html
I wonder If this May be adressed or If the screen is simply defective.
thank you for the review, it made it easier for me to score one today :D
Im in love with my 35XX. Currently about to finish Links Awakening DX
Can confirm glass protectors don't work well. But there are also flexible plastic protectors out there, should do fine in a pocket then
I'm looking forward to the Miyoo Mini Flip. If they actually release it and do a good job.
Huh. I have a Miyoo Mini+ and it charges no problem from power delivery devices (USB-C to C charger).
Screen resolution has been solved with the new firmware update two weeks ago
Not only is it not cheap, but artificially scarce
So good luck getting one or even one at msrp

Not gonna lie I have a RG35XX and it can charge with all different C to C cables. Might be a slight revision from the one you have. Bought it on amazon for 75 bucks. They label it as C2C compatible. Really nice feature that I am glad Miyoo is doing as well. Charges faster via C cable too vs A. Did you test to see if the Miyoo charges faster or not?
Interesting, I bought one from Anbernic, and like Russ’ model, I can only charge using usb-c to usb-a.
I really want a small landscape format one, something like the og pocket go but with bigger screen being same size
The v4 also has some recent board changes specifically the start/select and home buttons.
I always have my MM+ in my backpack. It's perfect size imo.
Presumably you currently like the trimui smart more than the miyoo mini? Or are they different use cases for you?
I got one just because I couldn't resist. My D-pad is all sorts of messed up. Mushy feeling when pressing up or right, scrubs against the case sometimes. Seems like their quality control isn't as good this time around.
I’ve had the RG35XX for about 3 months now with fully customized GarlicOS and coming from a Switch with CFW the RG35XX kicks ass for the size and price🤷🏽♂️
i know its sort of apples and oranges, but i love my MM+, but gave it a back seat for the Powkiddy X55 with the bigger screen.
Does Onion OS also have the 480p enlargement issue? Or is it just with the stock OS?
It’s baked into the firmware itself (flashed on the internal storage), so it’ll affect all OS options. The community devs are working on a fix right now.
I'd love to see a newer SoC - two A55 cores, please?
I'm happy with my RG351V.
Oh nice. I thought they discontinued this product
I just got a new miyoo mini plus and it does charge with usb-c/usb-c as well.
So, Onion OS 4.3 (beta) just came out which (in congestion with the latest miyoo firmware) supports the native resolution of the new display which makes this now (imho) superior to the original Mini.
So for all out there who really love the size of the Mini (like me): Go for it!
Have the same feeling as Russ especially the resolution mess-up. Sad. Btw, @Russ, is it still the eggshell/matte texture that is in grey Mm+?

Bummer about the V4! I am enjoying my Miyoo Mini Plus a bunch. Hoping to cover it on my channel as well, sometime soon.
Is it worth buying a screen protector for the miyoo mini screens if I already have a hardcover protector? Or do they scratch easy?
I think it was called a V4 just for the charging update, new color and revitalize hype. Otherwise this device is just answering the “unavailable stock” problem by sourcing any screen they could. So they probably said “we are giving the ppl a screen not on par with previous versions so let’s at least give a new color and update the charging as a consolation.”
I recently received a v4 in the original DMG color and I’m not running into screen resolution issues. 😄
What are your favorite games to emulate?
Contra-argument, the fuzzy screen actually recreate the original feeling of a CRT, without the shader, so... improvement?
I tried to buy a V3 for a friend but was never able to secure one so I gave my personal V3 to him instead. As the months passed, I still couldn't replace it so I eventually settled for a RG35XX. Then I saw these new V4s drop and was able to get a yellow one. Looking at the screen I was pretty disappointed and thought that it just wasn't as good as I remembered, I didn't know about the issues mentioned in the video so now I'm glad that I was right all along and the screen is actually worse. Hopefully Miyoo pushes an update soon.
that's crazy nice of you
He's like my best friend on earth and he came to visit me from Japan. First time I've seen him in like 7 years. @@nefariou5
I know there's such a thing as different strokes for different folks, but I just don't understand why someone would choose the og MM over the MM+ tbh
I just got my mini+ and I totally love it 👍
Does the new v4 come with a transperant plastic film on the screen like the v2
I purchased one and it didn't so I want to make sure it is not a used device
Still like my Mini, but haven't really used it for awhile. Been really loving my Vita for every day stuff; it has access to the games I want to play right now, comfortable to hold and fits in my pocket about as well as the Mini does with a card case over it.
would you be interested in selling any of your miyoo minis (not plus)?
funny, I order the miyoo mini plus and also felt the screen had a washed out look to it as well. I didn't order directly from the Miyoo ali express store though
I realised the small screen size just wasnt for me the day i tried to play anuthing besides GBA on the Rg351P. Even 3.5 inches was too small of a screen for my eyes and the chasis was too small for my hands. Sadly, ideals and reality are often contradicting :(
Never had a miyoo mini before and picked up the v4 and hope they do the firmware update soon!
Miyoo just uploaded it ten minutes ago

I had so much fomo before I ordered this and it was justified its the size that makes it so amazing I'll take it over 35xx or mini plus every day
Didn't expect review this one
Still have my Miyoo mini plus and loved it
I would like something more compact for my desk at work. But I love my Miyoo mini plus and RG35XX.
Plus isn't better for playing with one hand, though. So for that specific use case it's worse.
miyoo mini v2 v3 are definitly the best handheld if you only play GB/GBC/GBA games, i'm lucky enough to have one v1 and one v2 haha so i don't care what's wrong going on with v4
Plus is even better. 8bits and 16bits games looks better. Size is not much bigger, very similar in portability and more comfortable.
Miyoo Mini+ is all ya need on the go for the good oldies. Retro-achievements is also where its at.
