After getting a plus I still prefer the smaller one. Portability is everything. If I want a bigger screen for at home I have dozens of options but the original just travels better
Absolutely love my miyoo mini + in purple transparent version! Playing GBA games here is just nostalgia and the screen is just so perfect! I am in love with this retro console and definitely keeping it for a loooong time 💜
"Is it actually an upgrade, or just a quick fix to a problem?" Honestly, I'd say a bit of both. On one hand, it was a fix. Can't get the original screens anymore? Just switch to a more commonly available screen, and if that means having to make the console a bit bigger, so be it. Now people can buy it. Problem solved. On the other, it IS an upgrade. Not a huge upgrade, and maybe even more of a side-grade to some people. The screen is bigger, which I personally like, but I could see some people complaining about the bigger size, saying the entire reason they got or wanted a Miyoo Mini originally, was because it was so small. The Plus has Wifi, which I personally find nice to have, especially for FTP. But I could also see reasons why someone wouldn't care about Wifi at all. I mean, like, technically speaking, the bigger screen, bigger size in general, the inclusion of Wifi, the new triggers/shoulders. All TECHNICALLY an upgrade from the original. But at the same time, all of that could be a matter of preference too. I think the only real solid fact that we can claim is 100% better, is the build quality. I didn't have an original Miyoo Mini (as much as I wanted one), but over the past week or so (I ordered a Mini Plus and wanted to do some research), I've watched an absolute ton of videos comparing the different Miyoo Minis and the Plus, comparing the original Mini and the Plus to an RG35XX, and simply reviews of both the original Miyoo Mini, and the Plus. I've also gotten my own Plus in that time and have some experience with it...... And a LOT of the videos I saw about the original Miyoo Mini claimed build quality problems. The battery door seems to be the most common issue, where it's loose and pops off super easily. But I've seen stuff about the screen bit popping off, the screen itself having problems, one video had an issue with the shell, one had some shoulder button issues. And almost every time they try to shake it to test how much it rattles, it rattles a LOT. Meanwhile I've seen almost no complaints about the Miyoo Mini Plus. Just a couple screen issues, some of which was a simple fix of getting a replacement. From what I've seen in videos, as well as my own experience, I can say the build quality on the Plus is great. The entire thing feels solid, the battery door definitely isn't coming off by accident, my screen's been perfect, and shaking it makes absolutely no noise. It seems like they legitimately listened to the complaints about the original Mini, and put work in to fix everything they could on the Plus. I imagine the console being a bit bigger isn't specifically because people complained that the original is too small. That was probably just a matter of necessity since they're using a bigger screen. BUT, people complained about the shoulder buttons, they fixed it on the Plus. People complained about the battery door coming off too easily, they made the door strong as hell on the Plus. People didn't like that the original Mini rattled when you shook it, they made the Plus super solid, making no noise at all when you shake it. People wanted Wifi, bam, the Plus has Wifi. People had issues with the screens on the Mini? Well, they fixed that too for the most part. Like, just about every single complaint people made about the Mini was fixed on the Plus. And honestly, I love that. It shows they actually give a shit about what they're making, and put care into designing something people will actually enjoy using. Some companies coughAnberniccough like to just make a new console every month or two, throwing everything and anything out there to sell as much as they can. Most of their consoles might have a decent build quality, but certainly not the best, and they don't particularly listen when fans of the product complain or want changes. They just keep plowing forward with whatever their next non-upgrade of a handheld is going to be.
Great comment and 100% on point. The Plus is everything the original Mini was but better. The only potential downside is that it is bigger (if the small form factor was the original appeal). But in terms of gaming, the Plus hits the spot in everyway the Mini did. And you're right Miyoo definitely seem to want to listen.
I prefer my mini but that's not to put down the Mini+ that I also love, better shoulder buttons, more comfortable for long gaming sessions, but for quick pick up & play the OG mini is unmatched, the screen is sharper because it's smaller & games look so good, I'm glad I have it, so tiny yet so capable especially with Onion OS firmware 😊
My problem with the original miyoo mini is that it does not have wifi like the plus, i love the idea of the smaller size and pocket-ability but if i can get more for less money with the plus then it is just the best way to go for me.
Hi ! I have a question for you... if I take my micro SD from my old miyoo and put it directly in the new miyoo mini plus, would I find my menu, my games, my saves... THANKS !
I play the OG mini all the time because its pocketable. I have a case that converts into a hand grip so ergonomics are great. Ive finished many games on the mini because its usually with me
Miyoo mini there is a special place in my heart, I don't know, but the og one is the reason that now is rare to find, cuz how good it is, in many ways.
Honestly, i brought miyoo mini cuz of it portability, i brought rp3+ cuz of the retroachivments support. Miyoo mini plus is basically the middle ground i wanted, but a little bit to late.
I got my miyoo mini back before the prices went spastic and they sold out everywhere and I’ve had my rg35xx for over a mth now and I use that these days instead but recently I’ve really had the idea stuck in my head that I should try and get my hands on one of the transparent purple miyoo mini plus handhelds as that version looks gorgeous. Would I use it, absolutely not but majority of us collectors r guilty of buying handhelds or consoles purely for either the sake of having it or just an addition to the collection rather than for particle use
> Would I use it, absolutely not ikr only SCALPERS or impulsive HOARDERjunkies really have obsession for the elusive, FRAGILE, NON-ERGONOMIC mini. its for reddit/socialmedia STATUS SYMBOL and FINANCIAL REVENUE, never about retrogaming at all.
Glad I got my clear blue mini from the official store when they originally dropped. Now I'm afraid to take it anywhere because if it breaks, then that's it pretty much lol. So I ordered a clear black + for about $73usd. That will probably my go to "want to be able to play SOME games while I'm out and about" handheld.
@@kidcxsprI accidentally cracked my miyoo v3 screen while sleeping too...💔 I ordered the plus thinking it wouldn't have the same charm but honestly it's better in some ways it feels more premium in the hands and the 3inch screen look gorgeous also it's still a small device still fits in the pocket though I prefer the travel case also from some reason my roms run better on the plus.
@@jz1612 thanks for this! I might consider getting one in a month or 2! never really bothered til I read your comment, been missing my mini so much, just been playing switch games recently and honestly I would rather just play some classics on a cozy lil device
@@kidcxspr You're welcome, to put it in prospective. I grow up playing the Gameboy Color as a kid and this device is half the size with a better screen so it not bad. Also if you still have your V3 SD card you can transfer all your save data to the Plus via PC. Just something to think about.
Coming back to this comment months later, and tbqh I love the miyoo mini plus more than the mini. The mini is more pocketable for sure but if I want to play a game for anything more than an hour, the plus is just way more comfortable. I have large hands but love small devices so it's kind of a weird situation for me. Maybe even a curse, lol. But yeah, the mini plus doesn't cramp my hands and the added screen size is great. Plus being able to update over Wi-Fi is amazing! Now I don't have to maneuver the micro sd card to my pc anymore.
Honestly i would love to have the og mini to always throw in my pocket and play on commutes or just occasionally at home. But i just can’t justify paying the current markup price up for such a purpose.
@@ChronikSpartan I was on a Tui plane and they just saw me playing it on the plane and one of the air stewardesses took the thing from me lol. I was given it back at the end of the flight though so it is fine... Still though, they need to pick up their game and not confiscate silly things like that
