    I love my V4's. I purchased a yellow and a blue. I've got two V2's and two V3's as well. I have no issues with any of the screens. I think people are far too nitpicky about the screen. All i hear is Russ' opinion on everything these days and everyone just repeating what he says. Just try it for yourself. I like the pocketablity of the original mini. The plus is good too. I have the grey and the black.The 35xx to me was a waste of money. Crappy dpad. I own a Steam deck, RG280V, RGB30, RG405M, Odin Pro, Switch, and many older systems. I take my mini to work with me every day. I use it multiple times a day. It's really good. Just another opinion.

    I’m someone who went backwards from a mini plus to the v4 just because I really wanted the blue edition. I figured I’d probably still mostly go for my plus and was happy to spend $50 on the mini v4 just to have as a collector piece to play around with occasionally. Gotta say though as soon as I got it in my hands I knew it was something special and immediately understood the hype that I missed out on when it originally came around. I’ve had it for about a week now and honestly haven’t touched my plus since then. There’s just something really special about a device that small capable of playing my entire childhood on such a nice vibrant screen. The pocket ability makes it practically unrivaled for me for 30 minute to an hour long game sessions just about wherever I am. There may be some concessions and overall I’m glad I have the plus as well as it’s likely gonna be better for long game sessions in the long run but again the compact form factor of the og mini is just truly special imo. It would have seemed like a pipe dream when I was a kid or even a teenager in high school and I think the fact that any of these devices exist let alone in these small easily pocketable form factors is something that’s really easy to take to for granted. Overall loving the heck out of the mini v4

    The screen issue has been completely fixed with the new firmware. Now it looks better than a MM+ color wise, it really is fantastic now.
    Durability wise, I don't see how this is any more fragile than the MM+, they both have thin bezels and use the same plastic.
    I found myself being able to play on my V4 for hours withour cramps. It's all about holding it with your fingertips.
    Honestly prefer the V4 over MM+. Does the same thing besides wifi and is just that more convenient on the go. The hardware is nearly identical to its bigger brother which is great.

    I’m comparing both side by side, an GBA looks slightly larger when integer scaled on my v4 than my plus. It also seems to be scaling 3x to 720x480 on the v4, and I’m noticing Retroarch is making use of the full 560p display and not just stretching 480p image to 560p, so it looks pretty sharp. I mostly use it for GBA, and the other consoles I play on my Retroid Pocket 2S, so it’s been working better for my use case than the plus.

    • @Goomba_Smash
      @Goomba_Smash 9 месяцев назад

      I’m finding the miyoo mini+ gives me massive letterboxing when integer scaling gba. I had a v2 before u bought the plus, and the plus felt like a downgrade to me other than the screen size and WiFi. Just picked up the v4, and I think the resolution issue being referred to by the video was fixed in a firmware update, and I’m noticing I can actually use usb-c to usb-c and higher wattage chargers with the v4 (not the v2), unlike the plus, so I can actually use my iPad charger to charge my v4. To straight up call the v4 a downgrade is a bit of a simplification of the user base, to be honest.

      @@baldlyrudy It looks like mine came with the latest version of Onion pre-installed, looking at the patch notes I see what you mean. I do wish the overlays were redone to account for the 560p screen. I bought the V4 in transparent blue, I love the colour (I wish the Mini+ came in this colour). The build quality isn't as good as the Mini+, as my unit has a somewhat lose battery cover. I find the Mini a good console for Gameboy games and anything that doesn't need use of both shoulder buttons, switching the triggers around so L2 is L1 and R2 is R1 does make it more comfortable when playing GBA and SNES (it's great for Pokémon). I do think that for PS1 the Mini+ is far more comfortable. Where the Mini shines is playing it for short bursts, like if you are waiting in a queue or have a few minutes spare. Sure, I would have liked if the Mini V4 had wifi but it doesn't bother me that much.
    I know there are complaints about the V4 not having a screen as good as the V2 / V3 but seeing as those are being scalped I don't mind paying a lot less for a somewhat inferior screen. I did find turning contrast down to 0 made the screen look less washed out. Hopefully the upcoming firmware might make the screen perform a bit better.

    • @baldlyrudy
      @baldlyrudy  Год назад +1

      That's the hope. Maybe software can improve the handheld a bit. I love the 16-bit era, so I'm all about SNES games. GB/GB/GBA games are great on the MM+, and they could potentially be better for the MM V4, but getting used to the size is another issue. The MM+ just feels more comfortable for me.

    Yeah, with how similar in price this is to the MM+ it would be crazy to get the V4 over it. At this point, the MM seems like more of a novelty now that the MM+ is on the market. MM+ is bigger, has a better screen and wifi. Literally no reason to ever go with a V4 imo.
    Personally I'm in the market for one of these and its between the MM+ and the 35xx. The 35xx screen looks amazing, but no wifi and a worse Dpad seems like the deal breaker for me to go the MM+ route.
    The screen on the MM+ still looks really great in the videos I've seen. And I'm going to assume that if I didn't see it side by side with the 35xx I wouldn't even notice it was slightly worse anyways.

It seems like all of these devices max out at about PS1/N64 with limited PSP capabilities. If all you want is a small handheld that plays gameboy and snes fairly well, then the Anbernic 280v is a good option and easy to get. The Miyoo Mini + is great for something that lives in your pocket, imo.

    Everyone said that you could use a case meant for a deck of cards as a case for the Mini. I picked up a deck of cards and held it like I was playing a game. Uh uh. Way too small. I do have a V90 but that's different somehow. I still wouldn't want to play that for a long time.

    Not sure if you realize, but you actually ended up picking up the worst version of the Miyoo mini. The original and the V2 had absolutely phenomenal screens. Better than the mini plus even. Beautiful colors, 480p native. The reason the screen is what it is is because they ran out of the past screens. Some say the original and V2 screens were those that were used on blackberries, which tended to have small but wonderful screens.
    Simply speaking, it's not the same product that it used to be. It's a significant downgrade from the v1 and V2. Honestly, I feel bad for people picking this up thinking this was the original experience. If you're on the market for this device you're much better off just picking up the Mini+ or 35XX.
    In terms of build quality, yes. It will break if it drops. The original Miyoo mini is notorious for screen shattering with as little as a two-foot drop onto a carpeted floor.

    Miyoo handhelds are impractically small imo. They look great and are cute and super pockitable, but i think most of us want a device that isn't overly uncomfortable to use, even if we don't know it. i don't have the Miyoo mini, but i don't find myself wanting to use uncomfortable devices, handhelds or otherwise. These super compact handhelds really are just novelty.

      Mini Plus is not a novelty, it's actually a great handheld where you can play all you'r retro games. It's a little bit smaller than a Gameboy Pocket, so unless you are a twat that was born in 2005, I don't see how it can be uncomfortable for you

    I would say that the Miyoo Mini is vastly overrated today. I have a V2 myself which I got hold of for 50$... and even though I still love the device to death, It seems like the emulation handheld space has moved on. What makes the "the Mini" SO great is its genuinely small form factor, and also the beautiful 480p display, offering insane value by having cheap price point, high quality while being purposefully designed for 2D specifically (+ Playstation with d-pad focus). This is literally what was SO great about it! Today however, I think for a lot of people would appreciate the Miyoo Mini Plus more, with bigger screen, better grip, better shoulder buttons etc. What the Miyoo Mini still has is a legacy of greatness. Which forced the whole market to step up their game. However, it seems like the V4 has a 540p screen with imperfect upscaling and washed out colors. 480 upscaled unevenly to 540p, making for worse scaling than the V1-V3. So although I am happy it's here, I still think the "Plus" model is a better overall purchase to most people.

    • @baldlyrudy
      @baldlyrudy  Год назад

      Agreed! It's funny because I saw the V4 and got really excited, but it seems like a downgrade in every way. The Miyoo Mini Plus is the way to go.

    It is utterly utterly utterly stupid for people in the comments to complain this device is too small. Thats like complaining MicroSD cards are to small! my gosh people just ......don't...get it. If you dont like MicroSD cards guess what? FULL size SD cards exist and if you dont like tiny almost invisible USB flash drives that dont hang out and possibly crack your usb port if you hit it by accident...they sell bigger ones that will just do that exact thing for you. Sheesh people are pathetic.
