Thanks for checking out episode 50 with former Slipknot percussionist, Chris Fehn, #3. Please share this with any fans of Slipknot. I am truly honoured to have had this opportunity because this is Chris' very first interview since his departure from the band in 2019. He has been a part of the metal industry for over two decades and has contributed significantly to the success and evolution of Slipknot with his incredible live performances and distinctive Pinoccio inspired mask.
In this episode, we chat about his time before Slipknot and some of his career highlights, playing drums on 'These Old Boots' also featuring Mick Mars and Dee Snider, taken from my dad Phil Campbell's solo album 'Old Lions Still Roar', being blown away by Joey Jordison's drumming, playing bass guitar in the band Will Haven plus his future music plans.

Chris Fehn was always so iconic in Slipknot. Such high energy.
i really miss his vocals too

He had great backing vocals to
@@LordOfSwedenYup, Slipknot was done after Iowa.

Chris’s imagery is beyond iconic. His mask was always the most standout visual impression on me seeing the self titled cover at 12 yrs old.
Yeah but he isn't wearing it on the self titled cover.
@@maidenslayerhe's photoshopped onto the cover, so yes, he is.
@@Xeroforte That isn't him wearing the mask on the self titled cover
@@maidenslayer Chris was photoshopped onto the cover. The original images intended to be used on the cover did not have Chris in them. So that is Chris photoshopped onto the ST covered.
Chris and Craig were the most striking images I think.
Chris Fehn now lives in Michigan. I actually ran into him at a dealership when he was getting a new truck while I was working there. I wasn't allowed to say hi cuz we didn't want to scare him away. But he stared at me and I him and i gave him the devil horns and I want back to what I was doing work wise.

@@dypetrod4766 sounds like it could be idk
He was interviewed on a local station here a couple years before he left Slipknot. He's been here for a while
I feel like people only think of Chris being a percussionist in slipknot but the dude gave some solid backing vocals that people just seem to overlook I mean just listen to the chorus for "Sick"
Chris was awesome live!
His vocals are sorely missed, I always liked his better than clown and obviously so much better than Tortilla man.
Tortilla man improved but Chris was still better. Nameless & Three Nil are incredible with Chris.
Don't forget that legendary live performance of "Custer".
personally, I completely acknowledge his backing vocals. That gave the band a unique sound and nice add-on. His screams were demonic-like and really powerful.
You can tell Chris was holding back, from going off on his former band members.
It appears he chooses to be grateful instead. Good call.
This interview was never going to have the intention of bashing anyone in particular.
@@DrumForTheSongPodcast I noticed when Fehn was getting worked up, you were quick to move the conversation along.
Kinda hard to say things when you keep getting interrupted every 3 seconds
This truly was a great interview! I see tons of these with some of my favorite musicians and I can't watch all the show without getting bored but, this one was really entertaining and easy to enjoy.
It isn't the same without him. I'm glad to see he's healthy and doing well!
it isn't the same without joey and paul. frankly the band has sucked for basically 20 years now.

@321doucheface 20 years now? So you're saying it suxned with Chris, Paul, and Joey? Weird okay 😂
Corey and clown turned into Paul and Gene and really took slipknot down a different road.
Crahn (clown) is just a d-bag and wears the founder member badge like he's God or something. I woulda much, much rather see him gone than Chris. He brings nothing to the table apart from a victim mentality if you go back and watch some interview's!
For sure I can see that. Chris went through hazing (basically dumpin on him) then he’s outta there. So bad blood.
the clown always tried to do this and for some years allready, made slipknot the holywood prop they initially hated
they even kicked out joey...

Only him and the rest of slipknot know what truly happened. But Im glad Chris is doing good and just enjoying retirement. very much earned
i really hope we get to hear what actually happened but it sure sounds like he has no love for the surviving members. when he hit him with that “PASS” to the how slipknot formed you can tell he doesn’t like them.
@@trendkill3333 You remember that 2008 interview where he was talking about how basically he was always bullied and all that stuff but then they “apologized” and that everything was ok back then etc ? @@dave1986R Yup.
I had the honor of seeing Slipknot in 2001... one month before Iowa came out. The first time I heard any Iowa songs was live. Still the best concert I've ever been to. Original line up...Joey, Paul and Chris. I loved it.
First time I seen them was around that time too. It was at a small venue on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Just before they went on the Ozzfest run that year. Linkin Park, Papa Roach and Mudvayne was there too. They played The Heretic Anthem. Corey said it was the first time anyone's ever heard it. He said they were about to "Rip our heads off and shit down our necks". And they did......They absolutely nuked the arena with that song. Tore the roof completely off. I have been to 5 more shows since then and that moment was the best. Absolutely insane.
So sad to see what they've become.
Same! Saw them Ozzfest 2001 in Camden, NJ. Saw them again on the vol 3 tour in Houston. Glad we saw them in their heyday!
Saw them at Ozzfest 2001 UK at Milton Keynes Bowl. Front row, best day of my then 14 years of life. I’m 37 now… Sucks.
i had the honor of taking Sid's boots in my face in 2000 when he stage dived before the music even started. 🤣They were touring Europe with Kittie and One minute Silence. The stage energy was so wild.
@@jeremyvenet Yeah Sid went into the crowd at my show to and I reached out and patted him on the back lol My friend got 2 sticks from Clown
And now we need a podcast with Craig Jones now that he’s out

Much love to Chris. I still have my drumstick that i caught from Chris back on the Slipknot / Slayer tour London gig. One of my fave members ever. He looks happy and chill. Good to see.
That's so cool about the drumstick!
Best slipknot memory is seeing them live for the Subliminal verses and the first time they performed The Blisters Exist and watching Chris and clown do the duel snare drum part. It has always stuck with me
Same here! Awesome experience and wouldn't have been anything like it without Chris.
Backstage west palm was the first time I heard the new songs. 3 nil, blister, opium. It was surreal hearing those songs live.
Chris, Jay, Anders, Dickie Allen and Chris Adler should form a band.
That would be nuts
When I think classic Slipknot, I think of the mask of Chris Fehn. They lost a huge part of the band when you left. Sucks for them. Glad to see you doing good, man!
This was such a great watch! I always felt like he and Paul were the realest in the band, no ego - all love, grateful for the fans, open to talk to anyone about just about anything. #2 and #3 have been my favorites since I was a kid and remains that way.
Clown has always been a stand-up dude in my book. I met him on the mayhem tour in 2012.

Joey too
seems like Chris is happy. Good for him.
To those saying he didn't contribute are ignorant and clearly missing the fact that his backing vocals live were a big factor in their live performance.
Try listening to Nameless live and omit Chris's vocals .
😂
One of my favorite memories was seeing one of my favorite bands for the first time (Slipknot) at Ozzfest 2004, I was 14 yrs old and I was front of the stage. Chris flipped me off and threw water and a water bottle at me 😅 it was the best. Ive seen Slipknot many times after, with all the different members and I'm sad Chris is no longer there, you can tell a difference when certain members are no longer present....and now Craig 😢 i can't...my little Maggot heart 💔

Miss this guy so much! He’s the reason I got into Slipknot, saw his face on a Hit Parader magazine in 2005 an went right out an bought Vol 3 an it changed my life! He’ll forever be the face of Slipknot to me. Great interview dude!
Thanks so much for watching and for the kind words.
I’ve always liked Chris. I loved how him and sid would go off stage to go walk and greet the fans. To him being one of the ones setting some of the funniest slipknot moments. Also being honest with how slipknot in the early days was just such mental abuse without being scared of like maybe i shouldn’t say this because i might get in trouble with the band, nah he would just say it. I’m so glad he talked about Joey, and how in his instagram posts he makes it clear he misses Joey and loved him. While slipknot just posted a black picture and took them a week to even say anything. He’s just great, he seems like a great person. Rest in peace Joey and Paul.
Awesome to see Chris again. I miss him being in Slipknot.
Thanks for watching!
Slipknot is garbage
I was pretty fortunate to catch them live with Paul, Joey and Chris. I still remember that show and it was brutal! 😂😂😂
Awesome!
I was front row, September of 01. Jesus Christ they blew the roof off
@@scottwelch9340 same here! I was in pit and it was wild, I think me and my friends were shocked by how freakin crazy it was. The crowd was nuts, water bottles being thrown everywhere. 😂
Long Live #3!!! Forever loved and favored by us the fans, truly miss your part in the band.
its amazing to see the vibes that chris gives off compared to say...corey...ive been a maggot since they showed up in 99...i can remember down to the minute when my life changed because of slipknot, they for real were a part of what shaped my life (static x on the other side). i was always supportive of corey and his out spoken ways...ive been ride or die since day one. BUT,
to see the negativity and shadiness that is just rampant from guys that i adored. you can CLEARLY see how honest and stand up Chris is...and all i hear from the other end is Corey and Shawn literaly pre-emptually setting up weasel ways out of something that they claimed to love....ive tried and tried to stay on bored, but especially now with the abrupt lose of Jay (who has clearly dedicated his career to them, life long maggot...and this is what we get? somehow we went from a legitimate movement of individuality to a fucking shell corp...that has no interest other than money. Us maggots have been shunned by the ignorance that is now mass produced from (i cant believe im saying this) a total representation of greed, monetary value related to a brand, and a TOTAL disregard for what the beginning of slipknot meant to people. Shame!
i have legitimately given up on slipknot as a whole...the fact that i have totally disregarded the latest album hurt me on a cellular level. but i refuse to support any longer these sellout, greedy, selfish, ignorant individuals. R.I.P. the knot
p.s. i never thought i would say this also...im now Glad that i never got a slipknot tattoo (which i have many representing things that i love)...i would be truly EMBARRASSED to have something on my body that is clearly a hollow misrepresentation of something that i can no longer associate with with a clean conscience. I believe that there are many many maggots that would agree with every single word i have just written. It truly is a sad day.
p.p.s
what cowards. not only did they put the message out (just like firing joey with a bullshit email)...they disabled the comments because they KNEW what would come if we the maggots could speak, AND on top of that immediately removing the post because of the intense and heavy backlash. spinless! I want so bad to have someone tell me Im wrong, the only problem is...IM not!
They showed up far before 1999 my guy I'm not even a fan and I know this
@johnaranjo2059 ok "my guy" I'm not gonna sit here and reiterate the entire back story of the 5 piece band and "mfkr" and the line up changes and what the sound was prior. We actual fans all know the "batman" origin story and it doesn't need to be rehashed.
We know that and unless you're from Des Moines in the mid 90s (which you're not) you can shut your fucking mouth and move the fuck on...thanks for playing.
Well said brother! ❤️💚🩶💜🙏🏼🍀

Great interview Dane. Chris seems like such a nice dude. I love his enthusiasm when he talks about music and other bands. Particularly the kind words he had for your dad. I'm glad to see he's doing well. Bummer that Craig has left the band now as well. All the best mate!.

Ya Chris, your backing vocals are truly missed

Thank you 😊
Chris it's great to hear you. Congratulations on the baby boy.
True Story: I first saw Slipknot in May 2000, a few years later I found out one of my friends from Iowa was dating...CHRIS! We were actually neighbors briefly in Lake Tahoe. Chris was always a super cool dude and pretty awesome at disc golf too as my friend Damon and I can attest. Chris even went above and beyond this and got me and a couple friends backstage and on the tour bus in Sacramento on their tour with Fear Factory and Chimaira. Such a generous and kind gesture. Thanks Chris! All the best!
Chris, form a band with the old members of Slipknot 🤘🤘
A great guest for episode 50! Really enjoyed this, Dane!🤘🥁👍🎊🥳🎉
Thanks Gareth, glad you enjoyed this one too.
Love to see Chris happy and healthy.
Was always my favourite member growing up. Favourite mask and related to him through his interviews he saw himself as an outcast in the group. Vocals in Custer were amazing
It seems that a lot of people feel the same way!
The extra percussion contributed to Slipknot's heavy and unique sound as well as allowing for the energetic and chaotic live show. I always loved the percussion only section of The Blister Exists with Joey, Clown and Chris playing in perfect unison. As well as percussion, the backing vocals from Chris (and Clown) were important.
Amazing interview! He seems like a pretty awesome dude and by the words he used to describe working with your dad, I’d say he’s thankful for working with people that allow him a space to express his ideas. Even though he’s not a virtuoso he brought up so much to the table for slipknot in various forms. His performance live was pretty damn cool to experience, and that fkn mask is so iconic!
I agree, he is awesome. Thanks for watching and for the kind words.
Prime Slipknot for me was when Chris, Joey and Paul were still in the band. Their sound is completely different to me now and they will never recapture the dynamic that they had in Vol 3
Best Chris Fehn content I've ever seen

I kind of wish Chris would’ve opened up about the clash with his former band mates. With all the egos in Slipknot I could imagine the shit he put up with.
