    I like drums
    I also like the fact that you and Sweetwater are doing something so meaningful! A whole drumkit is amazing. I just moved out of state and didn't have room to move my drum kit, so I only have an e-kit now. A new drumkit would help me break into the Seattle music scene! I bought a pair of the Taylor Hawkins 5B sticks and shipped them to my friend who's getting into drumming. Was really tempted by the EAD mic but money is super tight for me right now. Congratulations to whoever wins!! :)

      @@rekzorsa childhood prodigy and a very talented drummer can both be youtuber drummers. The reason why eloy is not a youtuber drummer is not because he’s “too good for that”, it’s because he was already a very well recognized band drummer playing in one of his countries largest metal bands ever.
      Mateus Asato would be an example of a “instagram/youtube” guitarrist, and I wouldn’t put his skills behind eloy’s one bit. It’s just that he’s mostly known from youtube/instagram fame, not from his session work, and, as far as I know, he has never been in a band (or, if he has, the fact that I, as a fan, don’t even know, shows how much of a youtube/instagram guitarist he is).

    • @iurigrang
      @iurigrang 5 месяцев назад +14

      I would even go as far as to say most people who subscribed to his channel before slipknot met his channel through his band work not the other way around. it would be like saying Tosin Abasi is a youtuber guitarrist just because he has a large channel.

    There is another thing: Eloy is one of the most humble musicians out there. Taking out his ego helps him to get better and work freaking hard. Here in São Paulo he had (or has) a room in a music school and everybody said that when he was not touring, he was there practicing all day long. He started playing the drums at 7 yo and he is 33. So it has been 26 years of hard work. It is much more than the so called 10.000 hours

    • @Howitchewstofeel5gum
      @Howitchewstofeel5gum 5 месяцев назад +17

      Because the "10,000 hour rule" isn't really a thing. That was just sth Malcolm Gladwell pulled out of his ass based on ONE study of violin players and a few anecdotes, and the authors of that study have even stated that their findings really don't support this supposed "rule". But bc people are simple and like catchy buzzwords like this, it of course spread like wildfire...

    • @Samuri5hit84
      @Samuri5hit84 5 месяцев назад +16

      @@Howitchewstofeel5gum Well it's not all wrong. Putting in a certain amount of hours into something will make you very good at it. When I was in school for art my teacher said "If you want to be really good at landscape paintings you have to do at least 800".
      What he meant is you should not stop at 800 if it's something you enjoy. However 800 paintings is a great start and at that point anyone would be developing a ton of skill and hopefully even some personal style at the point.
      In summary 10,000 hours is a base, nobody puts tha much time in with no reward.

      This is a part that is sometimes not taken into consideration but is essential in an extreme music environment like Slipknot.
      Eloy had a great teacher in this area, Aquiles Priester (another world-class drummer but with a more traditional heavy-power metal approach). Both have absurd technical-athletic development.
      They see their performances as extreme marathons and give their all day after day behind the drums. As for the performance of both, they are like athletes performing at a high level, sweat, blood and a little itotonic to help.

    What makes Eloy such a great “metal-drummer” is that he’s not only a “metal-drummer”. To me he has always been a hard-hitting fusion drummer. And all his flow and musical creativity I see as a result of that ✌🏻🤩

    • @SavedbyGraceAlone84

      I was hearing that fusion too. I'm not a drummer. I play other instruments but can play basic beats. Listening to him I could hear something that I've heard before. As a kid I was in a band with another kid that didn't even like metal. He'd play mostly jazz and jazz fusion. When he'd play with us he was so good and you could hear that jazz fusion in his playing. As soon I heard Eloy I was like, "whoa, I've heard something like this before".

      On the other hand he has "evolutionized" metal drumming in the (far) past, he has a certain feeling for his music and he makes his drums "sing" (mostly by weird hard-hitting).

    I'm not taking anything away from Eloy. He's a hell of a drummer. But I like how people are only now calling him one of the best ever and singing his praises.... now that he's a part of slipknot. Pretty cool your explanation about Casagrande technics. But I prefered when he was at Sepultura, the REAL one of the most important metal band in the world. Slipknot is a "gringo" band, but actually is a mere new metal band, in terms of technic and musical contribution on metal scene. Casagrande isn't a begginer or a YTber drummer, he's ever been a legendary drummer in Brazil.

    As someone who plays multiple instruments and sings/screams these tips apply to any musician.
    I’m currently working on my secret vocal audition for one of my favorite bands. I would love to sing for them if the opportunity arose but regardless if it ever happens, I’ll have an amazing portfolio of songs to show off my vocal abilities. Maybe some other band will see it who needs a singer or even someone to have as a fill in on tour. The opportunities are out there but you have no chance if you don’t put in the work. I don’t want to look back on life and say, that I didn’t at least try to achieve my dreams. Thanks for the encouragement 🙏🏻

    The music scene in Brazil is incredibly diverse, making it hard to find another country with such a rich array of genres. From Samba and Bossa Nova to Jazz, Choro, MPB, Forró, Rap, Heavy Metal, Frevo, Brega, Tropicália, Maracatú, and many more, the list goes on and on. Drummers like Eloy Casagrande, Aquiles Priester, and Igor Cavalera have gained international acclaim, but the country is also home to thousands of other exceptional musicians, from guitarists and pianists to vocalists, bassists, and percussionists, and everything in between. Similar to the US, Brazilians benefit from a unique mix of Southern European heritage, African rhythms, and Indigenous traditions, which makes their music scene so vibrant and dynamic.

    on the metronome debate.. when I was still in a metal band some years ago we did an experiment where we played some shows with a metronome and some without... as a band, we unanimously decided it was better to play live without the metronome. It gave each song a much more dynamic experience and it showed in our crowd reaction. it was tough at first, but after a while you learn to 'feel' how the crowd is reacting and how fast/slow you should play each section of the song. It made each gig unique and it really helped me grow as a drummer. Getting to know how to react to the audience was a big part of our success at the time.
