Jay is taking so much hate from the fan base right now. Everyone is on the Eloy train. Don’t get me wrong the guy is a prodigy. But I feel like Jay deserves a lot of credit for picking up where Joey left off. And I’m sure Eloy will do the same.

I got to see Joey do his famous solo with the rising platform back in the early 2000's. It was amazing. It was a small venue to so they were right in our face.
LOL, technically (drumming technique) Eloy is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY BETTER than Joey, however, Joey created this style almost, so he is a very influential drummer, however Eloy can play ANYTHING, Joey was a great metal drummer, Eloy is a great MUSICIAN....

First 3 albums of Slipknot are the best. I used to love them back in the day. I remember dancing like mad with my mates in my room to their songs.. geaat times.
I do believe it is as much of a situation similar to having to pass the torch from The Rev. And now Eloy being the drummer makes me wonder how the band will progress in sound! So excited
and if you do the same for Jay Whine-burg, you'll see how off time he was. Eloy is the biggest upgrade, ever. Easily as good as Joey, if not even better. Who knows how Joey would have been if he were still here and never had health issues but right now at this moment in time, Eloy is incredible.

we gotta stop with this "slipknot fires all their drummers" shit. Joey wasn't fired. he suffered from transverse myelitis and it made his playing extremely difficult towards the end of his time with the band. that's why he left. because of his health.
Joey = power and fills / rhythm Jay = smooth and rhythm/ fills Ely= power and fills / rhythm Slipknot went back to a heavy handed type drummer for that type of sound that was on Iowa
I'm not a drummer, but I've been a Slipknot fan since the beginning. I just wanted to say from a "life in general" standpoint, that I really appreciate the "What is this obstacle teaching me?" point of view. Bottom line, my life really sucks in a lot of ways. I have declined with my medical and mental issues in recent years and it's made every day frustrating and torturous. Being in a state of exhaustion all the time, it's difficult not to just feel angry and defeated all the time with every bad thing that happens, even small things. Or just not being able to do the simplest things on some days for my son and I. Though I'm sure it'll take a lot of practice, I really feel like if I can train myself to ask that basic question when I hit my barriers, it will assist me in working on my negative attitude and change my approach to life over time. So yeah, really great advice that pretty much applies to anything. Great video man, thanks a lot!
I spent the last 3 and a half years studying with Eloy Casagrande here in Brazil (I was his longest time student) and I'm sure he's more than the next Joey, he'll be the best ever.
Gabe this breakdown is fantastic!! I put down the kit years ago and picked it back up a few months ago as my hobby/therapy. I love the insights you are giving. It really helps the mental aspect of building my ability. A major take away from this one: who believes double kick is cheating?? Those folks are crazy.
The fact that Slipknot did not hire El Estepario Siberiano as their new drummer is beyond crazy, the guy can play all their songs one handed while drinking a coffee and making it look easy

When Jay joined Slipknot for first time, everyone was complaining. He did at the end a very good job, he tried his best but never reached Joey level and power. However now that Slipknot joined Eloy, I havent seen any hate comment at all. This is it!! He is the One.

I think that eloy is such a mystery to North American and European people, because they do not have the cultural baggage to understand the Latin American groove, such as the brazilian. Besides being a technical genius, he incorporates the brazilian rhythms with his metal drumming, last guy that did this was Igor Cavalera.
Try and rate Dale Crover's drumming from '87 to '93. He's a drummer that never gets mentioned within the mainstream context. He was wild, super powerful, inventive. Pure magician with the drums. There's no one like him.

I dont think Jay did anything better than Joey. Nothing wrong with Jay, he was adequate and could play the parts...but I wouldn't say he did them any better. He was as average as a band as big as Slipknot could get away with. That Eloy tho...he is a beast, I have no doubt Slipknot got the most technically superior drummer they could find, probably the best in every single caregory out of the 3 drummers. We been following this drummer for many years now. I will always miss Joey RIP, he is in more than one way irreplaceable.

Been listening to slipknot since day one. The fact is all the drummers are good drummers no doubt. Joey was more than a drummer he was part of the drum set. The sticks were extensions of his arms he was the most smooth with it. He was the most animated with it. Joey was and is still and will be the best drummer slipknot has had. Jay and Eloy are great Jay played the drums but in my opinion had minimal personality. Eloy hes hitting those drums hard which is fine but I wanna hear that disturbed sounding drumming that comes with slipknots drums
I never was a fan of slipknot. It had to with the drummers they’ve had. As a very young drummer I played Hispanic/Mexican genres with the family band. Then I heard Black Sabbath and a lot changed for my playing. IMHO Eloy’s playing is WORLDS beyond what slipknots prior drummers could try and do. I’m interested in what Eloy will do for slipknot. And now… I expect the haters who will disagree with my comment, to throw their hate. Aaaand go!!!

Totally different drummer, but I have mad respect for Gavin Harrison of Porcupine Tree. He applies all of these concepts and ideas that you noticed from Slipnot by times 100. His dynamics are insane. (Not comparing them. Prog rock vrs. nu-metal are not the same thing. Apples to oranges) But, your breakdown of their playing reminds me of why I love drummers like Portnoy, Harrison, and many others.

Slipknot is easily top 5 bands for me, Joey's drumming is insanely fun to listen to and play. If you guys have an E-kit, download Clone Hero ASAP, ton of good Slipknot songs on there to play
Doing Singles that Fast is when you know youve reached the top. These guys are prodiges. If they were able to drum that fast after a short amount of time, then that explains everything. I cannot see these guys working on singles and doubles for years and years only to step up small notch. Their gifted. End of story.
The funny thing is that these guys prolly cant teach the drums effectively but they can play them. Id like to hear from their teachers. Who taught joey? At what point did joey stop lessons and KNOW that he reached THAT POINT?
On the drummer scale, Joey's creativity should be maxed out and Joey's technique should be higher than Jay. This isn't even a subjective opinion, just straight up facts.
Unpopular opinion. I never found anything creative about joeys composition. I think Gabe pointed it out perfectly. Joey perfected RLRL with an absurd speed. Speed and accuracy were his strengths and IMO, not creativity
Eloy is the perfect fit for Slipknot, it’s his favorite band, he’s a powerhouse speed demon. The fact he played Heretic Anthem perfectly with the way SK plays with zero clicks is amazing in itself. I like Weinberg but Eloy imo is the perfect choice to take what ima refer to as the hot seat
he is a guitarist basically and turned to a drummer. he knows how to support the vocals with his drums. this makes the difference. he supports every vowel and ... the other thing i dont know the word... this makes the difference
@aaronclark-pearman9030 And so are many other drummers. There's drummers out there better than Eloy. All I'm saying is, Jay and Joey to me just felt like Slipknot's drummers. Something about those two seemed to complete Slipknot. I'm not saying Eloy doesn't fit in Slipknot by any means. It just doesn't feel the same as having someone like Joey or Jay in the band. Maybe because he's still new to me? I dunno, time will tell.

Finally someone who sees it. Joey's Chaos is what made him so amating. Especially on the debut album.
One thing I noticed about Joey, if you slow down an isolated drum track of his when he was in slipknot, his beats are so groovy.

I cannot see these guys working on singles and doubles for years and years only to step up small notch. Their gifted. End of story.
The funny thing is that these guys prolly cant teach the drums effectively but they can play them. Id like to hear from their teachers. Who taught joey? At what point did joey stop lessons and KNOW that he reached THAT POINT?
On the drummer scale, Joey's creativity should be maxed out and Joey's technique should be higher than Jay. This isn't even a subjective opinion, just straight up facts.
Unpopular opinion. I never found anything creative about joeys composition. I think Gabe pointed it out perfectly. Joey perfected RLRL with an absurd speed. Speed and accuracy were his strengths and IMO, not creativity

Eloy is the perfect fit for Slipknot, it’s his favorite band, he’s a powerhouse speed demon. The fact he played Heretic Anthem perfectly with the way SK plays with zero clicks is amazing in itself. I like Weinberg but Eloy imo is the perfect choice to take what ima refer to as the hot seat
he is a guitarist basically and turned to a drummer. he knows how to support the vocals with his drums. this makes the difference. he supports every vowel and ... the other thing i dont know the word... this makes the difference

Jay and Joey to me were Slipknot's drummers. Eloy Casagrande has some massive shoes to fill. He's doing great so far, wonder what he's gonna do next.
Search Eloy playing "Means to an End" from Sepultura, he's a monster, slipknot made the right choice

@aaronclark-pearman9030 And so are many other drummers. There's drummers out there better than Eloy. All I'm saying is, Jay and Joey to me just felt like Slipknot's drummers. Something about those two seemed to complete Slipknot. I'm not saying Eloy doesn't fit in Slipknot by any means. It just doesn't feel the same as having someone like Joey or Jay in the band. Maybe because he's still new to me? I dunno, time will tell.
