@Eirik36 They're starting to become insufferable. Acting like Eloy is the greatest thing to happen to the band. Completely disregarded the legacy that Joey and Jay had. Don't get me wrong, I've always liked Eloy. He makes Slipknot sound pretty good live! But it's starting to become toxic at this point. Dude doesn't even play with two single pedals, yet has four bass drums. Like come on man.

I'm not a drummer, but I've been a Slipknot fan since the beginning. I just wanted to say from a "life in general" standpoint, that I really appreciate the "What is this obstacle teaching me?" point of view. Bottom line, my life really sucks in a lot of ways. I have declined with my medical and mental issues in recent years and it's made every day frustrating and torturous. Being in a state of exhaustion all the time, it's difficult not to just feel angry and defeated all the time with every bad thing that happens, even small things. Or just not being able to do the simplest things on some days for my son and I. Though I'm sure it'll take a lot of practice, I really feel like if I can train myself to ask that basic question when I hit my barriers, it will assist me in working on my negative attitude and change my approach to life over time. So yeah, really great advice that pretty much applies to anything. Great video man, thanks a lot!

He was as average as a band as big as Slipknot could get away with. That Eloy tho...he is a beast, I have no doubt Slipknot got the most technically superior drummer they could find, probably the best in every single caregory out of the 3 drummers. Been listening to slipknot since day one. The fact is all the drummers are good drummers no doubt. Joey was more than a drummer he was part of the drum set. The sticks were extensions of his arms he was the most smooth with it. He was the most animated with it. Joey was and is still and will be the best drummer slipknot has had. Jay and Eloy are great Jay played the drums but in my opinion had minimal personality. Eloy hes hitting those drums hard which is fine but I wanna hear that disturbed sounding drumming that comes with slipknots drums

With all that said: easy peasy for Mr. Casagrande, the most robust and skilled of the three drummers.

Doing Singles that Fast is when you know youve reached the top. These guys are prodiges. If they were able to drum that fast after a short amount of time, then that explains everything. I cannot see these guys working on singles and doubles for years and years only to step up small notch. Their gifted. End of story.

The funny thing is that these guys prolly cant teach the drums effectively but they can play them. Id like to hear from their teachers. Who taught joey? At what point did joey stop lessons and KNOW that he reached THAT POINT?

Nobody can replace Joey as a songwriter, but it kind irks me when some (not saying you) people act like no-one can ever be as good as him on a technical level, especially live. I'm guessing it's because most people steer clear of subgenres like prog and death metal, which have the most technically and stamina focused drummers usually. But for example, give this task of playing slipknot to george kolias, he'd absolutely annihilate. Same with Austian archey, Anthony barone, etc. I say this as someone who's seen these bands in concert several times. The slipknot fanbase has a tendency of hating on anything new. I'm happy they seem to be accepting Eloy though, he's absolutely one of the best most proficient drummers in the world. This all being said though, like I said in the beginning of my comment Joey played an integral part in writing those first 3, easily best records, and I still think AHIG is far above their later records. Him and Paul wrote A LOT of the stuff on Iowa, and you can tell, it's still my favorite record for this reason.

Totally different drummer, but I have mad respect for Gavin Harrison of Porcupine Tree. He applies all of these concepts and ideas that you noticed from Slipnot by times 100. His dynamics are insane. (Not comparing them. Prog rock vrs. nu-metal are not the same thing. Apples to oranges) But, your breakdown of their playing reminds me of why I love drummers like Portnoy, Harrison, and many others.

We always did that in my bands. Play the set twice and it was extreme metal so was hard work, and the would do 2 hours of working on new stuff. It was hardwork and we did it twice a week and then went to 4 times a week. The set became easy live.
